Project: Horizon FD70

Horizon announces the project for a new FD70, entry level of its Fast Displacement line.  So far we have little details about this project set to launch in 2020, which the company is describing as game changer in its size.  Game changer for offering the choice of a five cabin layout, and a master stateroom on the forward part of the main deck.  Horizon Fast Displacement series was launched in 2015 with the FD85 designed by Cor D.Rover, and since then the range has expanded to six models, three of which in the water, and three in project stages including this upcoming FD70 model.

New Model: Horizon FD77 Skyline

Following the tremendous success of Horizon's Fast Displacement series, the first Horizon FD77 completed sea trials successfully and is now on her way to the U.S. to make her debut at the Palm Beach boat show. The FD77 joins the FD85, FD87 Skyline, FD102 Skyline and the FD125 Skyline in this popular series. This new model was specifically designed to appeal to active owner-operators. Interest from current Horizon owners who operate their own yachts inspired the design of the FD77, which retains the same styling and spacious characteristics of her larger sisters, wrapped in a compact package that affords ease of operation and excellent sea-keeping capabilities. The brand-new Horizon FD77 maximizes interior volume with unique floor-to-ceiling glass sections that invite plenty of natural light and spectacular views into the salon, dining area and on-deck master stateroom. A sliding glass door to starboard in the main salon accesses the exterior walkway leading to the forward deck, further enhancing the openness of this explorer yacht. The well-appointed on-deck master stateroom retains the same style as the rest of the main deck, its open layout, exquisite soft goods and a lighting design adding comfort to an already luxurious space. On the lower deck, three additional staterooms, including two VIPs, echo the feeling of spaciousness found throughout. On the aft, a comfortable settee faced by some additional free-standing chairs seats up to eight persons. Additionally, a large beach club invites relaxation at sea level and located just forward of the beach club is a full head and additional crew cabin. The fore-deck offers a great area for sunbathing and lounging, fitted with a double sun-pad and a comfortable couch facing forward to enjoy the all-around views. This 'Open Bridge' version of the FD77 model offers functional outdoor spaces that rival those found on 27 meter size super yachts. Side wing-stations allow for improved visibility while docking and the bridge deck aft is spacious enough to accommodate a four meter plus tender. Powered by twin Man 1200hp each and fitted with ABT Zero-Speed stabilizers and bow stern thrusters, the new FD77 is bursting with amenities. This new model is the ultimate option for owners who enjoy exploring the sea on their own or with the two crew that can also be accommodated within.

Project: Horizon FD77 Skyline

Horizon Yachts and designer Cor D. Rover have once again partnered to collaborate on a new design, the FD77 Skyline. This latest model is the smallest of the extremely successful Fast Displacement series, which debuted in the US with the FD85 at the 2017 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show and today includes the FD85, FD87 Skyline, FD 102 Skyline, and FD 125 Skyline models. Incorporating the same sought-after features that characterize the FD series such as large sections of floor-to-ceiling windows, an expansive seven meters beam, and a striking exterior profile that presides atop Horizon’s High Performance Piercing Bow hull design, the compact FD77 has been purposely designed for owner operation.  Available in a flybridge or enclosed bridge version, the FD77 maximizes its impressive interior volume with sections of floor-to-ceiling windows that punctuate the main deck from the salon forward into the on-deck master stateroom. A sliding glass door to starboard in the main salon accesses the exterior walkway that leads to the forward deck. Three additional staterooms comprising two VIPs and a twin are found on the lower deck, as is a large beach club area aft.  Powered by twin Cats 1136hp engines, hull one of the FD77 is currently in production for the American market and is expected to debut at the Palm Beach boat show and Miami boat show 2019, while hulls two and three are intended for the European and Australian markets, respectively.

New Model: Horizon V81

During the 2018 Sydney boat show Horizon presented the newly designed V81, which comes from the well-known V series and features design changes to the V80 first launched in 2014, which in itself was also an extended V72 model. Crew quarters and a work space can be found aft of the engines. Moreover, the pilothouse features a protected space to pilot the vessel as well as a day head and dinette for guests; there is also a full bar on the boat deck, with plenty of room to store a tender. New Model: Horizon FD87 Skyline

Horizon Yachts is pleased to announce that the new FD87 Skyline a revolutionary enclosed bridge motoryacht based on the FD85 design has just completed her launch testing and has debuted this week at the 2018 Horizon Yachts Open House, in Taiwan.  Horizon FD87 Skyline has been customized to suit her U.S. owners, from the interior layout and design to her numerous exterior entertaining areas. She features Horizon’s advanced hull form design, dubbed the High Performance Piercing Bow HPPB; this hull design allows for excellent sea keeping at both slow and high speeds and, when augmented by her stabilization system, affords a sublimely comfortable cruising experience.  To ensure the performance and safety expected of all Horizon yachts, every build is subjected to a rigorous series of tests at the dry dock and in the test tank prior to sea trials. The leak test ensures the yacht is completely watertight by simulating conditions during a monsoon, using thousands of gallons of water to shower the yacht from various angles for over two hours. While in the dry dock, Horizon’s well-trained technicians will assess every detail of this latest build; these tests include checking all boat systems under both light and full loads as well as running the yacht’s engines, generators, and other mechanical equipment for several days at a time. Professional technicians from various departments will check the yacht’s mechanical, electrical, electronic and hydraulic systems, and the gear loading of the dinghy is tested while in dry dock to ensure stable and smooth operation.  All of these tests are performed in advance of the sea trials that include speed circle turning, emergency stern propulsion, and full-power endurance tests; analysis of on-board frequency and harmonics; and the testing of all major equipment and fire-fighting systems. Horizon believe that a comprehensive testing process for each yacht build is critical to ensure consistency and quality, and are committed to delivering not only a beautiful luxury yacht, but the best cruising experience to every yacht owner.

Horizon New Web Site

Taiwan's Horizon Yachts updates its World wide web showroom to a new platform.  Horizon was founded in 1987 by John Lu, a Naval Architecture graduate from National Taiwan Ocean University. Taking his degree John Lu returns to his coastal home town Kaohsiung, to gain hands on experience as a marine engineer, and in 1987 while working as Chief of Research and Development with another yard an opportunity comes to create his own company. The deal is struck and John Lu starts Horizon in his home town Kaohsiung with thirty employees. Since then Horizon has seen full on growth with the company overcoming the nineties Asian recession on full steam. Horizon made also important milestones in its history. In 1993 it decides to build its first eighty foot plus Super Yacht which it delivers in 1995. 1999 starts the use of the Scrimp resin vacuum infusion process. 2000 it founds Atech Composite dedicated to the build of hulls and superstructure. In 2002 it forms a Research and Design program for alternative power resources, which leads to 2007 when it begins development for a solar power yacht which is launched two years later. In 2008 it launches the largest one shot Scrimp infused build with the 130 Premier, and in the same year it enters steel super yacht construction with the EP148. In 2009 Horizon launched the biggest yacht ever launched in Taiwan the P136. Today Horizon with founder John Lu still at the helm, employs one thousand plus of staff who build an eight series line up: EP, P, RP, FD, E, V, PC, and CC which total 28 models. The smallest of the range is the PC 52, and the largest is the EP150. Project: Horizon V67

Hull One of Horizon Yachts’ latest model, the new V67 motoryacht, will soon make its debut. Created in collaboration with world-renowned designer Jonathan Quinn Barnett, the Horizon V67 is the third model in the V series, which includes the V72 and V80 motor yachts.  The Horizon JQB team combined input from international yacht brokers and clients specifications to tailor the V67 to three specific objectives: safety, solid architecture, and customization to an owner’s lifestyle normally found with superyacht projects.  Immediately striking in appearance thanks to a plumb bow design and only the second Horizon model apart from the FD series to feature such, the V67 has been planned throughout with large open spaces, wide side decks and a voluminous interior that takes advantage of large windows in the main deck and cabins and a wide beam. Excellent visibility and sizable stainless steel handrails underscore the attention given to safety that is of particular importance to owner/operators. The adoption of the plumb bow was the critical element that formed the basis of the V67’s design, notes Christian Stimson of Stimson Yachts of New Zealand who is responsible for the hull design and naval architecture. The vertical bow allowed for a longer waterline, which in turn affords a generous beam and reduces drag at lower, displacement speeds. The larger hull beam not only makes for greater stability and increased interior spaces, but also allowed the team to increase headroom without affecting the yacht’s low profile.  This “solid architecture” is testament to what JQB calls “honesty in design,” meaning that there are no visual tricks employed to make the boat appear larger than it is. Instead, the V67 boasts copious large yacht features ingeniously fitted within a manageable owner/operator framework.  Unique to an entry-level motor yacht such as the V67 is the option for customization, and owners are given the choice of at least two major layout options for each deck. The V67 offers a three or four-cabin layout with a private and spacious master suite located midship with a walk-in closet and vanity. Optional quarters for crew are situated aft. JQB focused here on opening any narrow passages into foyers and making the stairs larger with less rise to optimize the flow throughout the vessel.  On the main deck, the design emphasizes unobstructed views to enhance the feeling of spaciousness with an open salon that flows into a large joined galley and country kitchen; the main deck can also be configured with a country kitchen or lower helm forward. The open flybridge, which is the standard configuration for this model, features a bar with dinette seating under the hard top while a spacious sunbathing and dining area is found further forward on the bow. The flybridge can be enclosed with a day-head added if desired, and removable seating with table and chairs can be added to the boat deck.  Advanced systems, safety in design, luxurious finishes and options for customization, qualities of a custom superyacht are the cornerstones of the V67 model. Ideal for first or second-time buyers, families and owner/operators, the V67 has a shallow draft less and offers extended cruising capabilities via twin Caterpillar 1136hp each. Hull One of the new V67, destined for U.S. inventory with Horizon Yacht USA, features the galley/country kitchen, three-stateroom, and open flybridge configuration suitable for the global market; she is expected to launch in February 2018.

Project: Horizon FD87 Skyline

As clients evolve and become involved in the process, changes to the original drawings are inevitable. Such is the case of the FD87 Skyline motoryacht, a brand new addition to Horizon’s Fast Displacement series, whose design was inspired by one client’s lifestyle request. The FD87 now joins the FD74, FD85 and FD102 models that comprise the builder’s latest series which may well extend to a new FD122 in the not too distant future.  Cor D. Rover, who designed the Fast Displacement series in partnership with Horizon’s in-house naval architecture team, returned to the drawing boards to collaborate with the team on the design for the FD87 Skyline, which will debut a cool blue hull and contrasting white superstructure with an enclosed bridge as well as Horizon’s new High Performance Piercing Bow HPPB.  Springing from the eye-catching FD85, the FD87 Skyline retains many of the 85’s unique features, including an expansive seven meter plus beam, spacious on-deck Master with four further guest staterooms and two crew cabins on the lower deck, and stunning floor-to-ceiling windows in the salon and dining areas inviting an abundance of natural light within the interior.  In place of the raised pilothouse found on the FD85, the FD87 Skyline boasts a fully enclosed bridge with access to a Portuguese walkway leading forward to the bow and an inviting seating area. The enclosed bridge provides additional indoor entertaining and lounging areas while allowing for an extended boating season in colder climates.  A newly popular design for the U.S. market, the FD87 Skyline also features a spacious beach club and swim platform aft, which provides a perfect spot for relaxing close to the water or enjoying water sports activities.  The FD87 Skyline will be fitted with stabilizers, Cats 1136hp engines and a 13170 liters fuel capacity that will yield a nearly 2000 nm range at nine knots. The first FD87 Skyline will deliver to its owners later on in 2017.

Project: Horizon FD85

Horizon is pleased to announce the FD85 fast displacement motoryacht as a new model to the company’s luxury yacht line-up. Developed by renowned yacht designer Cor D. Rover and Horizon’s in-house naval architecture team, the FD85 features a vertical bow design, which has been tested with Computational Fluid Dynamics; that not only offers the desired fast displacement performance criteria but also increased hull volume for 25% more spacious living spaces, including a five guest stateroom layout. Built with twin Cat 1136hp engines, the new Horizon FD85 performs high efficiency from a slow cruise of 10 knots to a faster cruise of 16 knots, ensuring a more comfortable and versatile use of operating speeds. The FD85 has just completed one of her main construction stages, joining the hull and superstructure, and is scheduled to debut at the 2016 Taiwan International Boat Show in March.  The new Horizon FD85 provides five en suite guest staterooms; a full-beam master stateroom on deck and two mirrored VIP queen staterooms as well as two twin guest staterooms below deck.  Crew quarters are found just forward of the engine room. The main salon and formal dining room incorporate sections of floor-to-ceiling glass windows, a design feature that is carried into the Master stateroom as well and dramatically increases natural light in these areas. In the FD85’s pilothouse, a large windshield also adds natural light and maximizes visibility; however Low-E glass is utilized to reduce the amount of heat entering the yacht, and the windshield’s forward-angle design minimizes reflections on the navigational instruments.  Horizon focused on both function and entertaining when designing the FD85’s outdoor spaces. New Model: Horizon V80

Horizon is pleased to announce the launch and delivery of the first V80 to a new owner in Taiwan at the end of July. The launch of V80 marks two milestones for Horizon, she is hull one of the new model but also the first over 24 meter private super yacht delivered to a Taiwan owner. The Horizon V80 is a cockpit style yacht and was re-imagined from the V72 model after listening to client feedback; increased interior volume and added a variety of amenities and features, such as the ability to accommodate three or four spacious ensuite staterooms and an internal stairwell from the salon to crew. On the exterior, Horizon incorporated a U-shaped settee for eight persons and dual sun-pads in the fore-deck, with the option for a Bimini top if desired, and the crew quarters also saw an increase in space. Horizon’s ability to customize a yacht is one of the main reasons the owner chose to build with the famous Taiwan builder, and he visited the shipyard and met with the in-house designers many times, both before signing the contract and during the build of the V80. Built for a first-time yacht owner, V80 first hull was titled “The One” and also features a number of custom items requested by the owner: a three stateroom layout below deck, with an oversize master; a mahjong area forward of the salon on the main deck; and the galley aft of the engines in lieu of a crew area. The owner liked the V80’s quality, design and performance, and the extra twenty feet plus beam also provided a functional space for his family, entertaining guests and business demands. Equipped with twin Man 1360hp engines the V80 cruises at 20 knots and tops out at 24 knots.
