Sea Ray Cruiser Saved Near San Vito lo Capo Sicily

An eight meters Sea Ray sport cruiser with five persons onboard was saved from further damage at Al Sabbione, near San Vito lo Capo to the North West of Sicily at around 12:00 of Sunday thirtieth June 2023. The Sea Ray was cruising from Castellammare dell Golfo to Zingaro and San Vito lo Capo, when it hit its running gear with a reef near Al Sabbione, becoming powerless and to mercy of the current and tide. The Sea Ray cruiser was first assisted by a nearby boater, and then by the Guardia Costiera, who were followed by the military squad of the Castellammare dell Golfo district. The operation to save the boaters took only twenty minutes, as the sport cruiser was towed to Castellammare by a friendly boater who assisted the boat early on, with this operation followed and guided by the Port Captaincy boat.
The Sea Ray in this accident collision is a first generation 260 Sundancer as produced from 1999 to 2004.  The 260 Sundancer come out as a replacement to the third generation 270 Sundancer and was replaced by a second generation 260 Sundancer. The assisting sport cruiser is a Mano 32 Sport as produced in the end noughties.

Projects: Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi 560 Contessa, Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi 640 Contessa

Coming from the debut of the new 500 Regina flagship in the fall of 2024, Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi shows its future by showing details for even larger upcoming models, as it presents the rendering of the 560 Contessa and bigger 640 Contessa, the first two models of its Sport Fly range.  Both 560 and 640 Contessa come from a design of Alessandro Lottici DesignAlot studio for the exterior, who is helped by the BMW Group DesignWorks given duties for the interior.  For the two Contessa's Alessandro Lottici will follow his excellent work for FIM following the 440 and 500 Regina.  An important note with the smaller Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi 560 Contessa is that she is to be something of a unique offer as sport flybridge yachts at seventeen meters in size come, with the only other offer that I can think off being the upcoming Sunseeker 55 Sport Yacht.  The 560 Contessa as pictured above is reported to be in the final phase of pre-production, and will feature a three guest cabins, crew cabin for one lower deck accommodation layout.  The Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi 560 Contessa is to be powered by twin Volvo with IPS pod drives for top speeds up to 35 knots.
The bigger Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi 640 Contessa follows a near identical script to the eight foot smaller sister, from the design to the layout, with the difference that the crew cabin will be for two persons and everything is obviously a bit bigger.  Unlike the smaller 560, the 640 Contessa enters in a more competitive sport flybridge segment with offers coming from the likes of Azimut, Fairline, Galeon, Princess, Riva, and Sunseeker.  Although the Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi 640 Contessa will have the option of drop down bulkheads which expand the aft deck and beach area, something which only the Polish Galeon offers.  The Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi 640 Contessa is to be powered by twin Volvo 1000hp with IPS pod drives with the first unit planned to be completed in mid 2026.

Tecnomar Lamborghini Yacht Partly Sinks Near Monument Island Miami

A twenty meter Tecnomar for Lamborghini sport yacht titled m/y TNT with 32 people onboard partly sank as it was near Monument Island, Miami Beach, Florida at 17:00 of Saturday third May.  Following a distress call from the yacht the US Coast Guard was quick to the scene and started to disembark the boaters, with nearby boats and yachts also helping in the operation as the Lamborghini yacht listed heavily to its starboard stern side.  Miami Beach Fire Rescue and Miami Beach Police Department also assisted in the boaters rescue operation.  Following the saving of all the 32 guests and boaters, which were all reported uninjured a salvage operation was started by Fast Response Marine Towing and Salvage, who re-floated the yacht by the evening, and towed it to a yacht yard for repairs.  The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission is investigating the incident, as social media speculated on how the Lamborghini yacht started to sink, with the excess of guests being the favorite speculation, as the 32 people onboard is double to the certified registered maximum of sixteen.
M/y TNT is 2023 build Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63.  Produced since 2021 the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 is designed by the exclusive Italian sports automaker, with Brunello Acampora doing naval architecture.  The 63 in the Tecnomar for Lamborghini has four distinctive meanings; from the founding year of the automaker, to the length of the yacht, its top speed, and the units Tecnomar will produce.

New Model: Bellini Astor 36

Not much time passes that a new offer in the walk around sport cruiser segment appears. This time around we have Bellini, who founded in 1960 return to boat and yacht production after 51 years.  This is not to say that Bellini has stopped since then, as the company including it's home on Lake Iseo has today five boat storage facilities, located in Liguria and the Adriatic side of Italy.  Bellini is back with this new Astor 36 a sport cruiser walk around designed by Brunello Acampora of Victory design and project guidance from Norberto Ferretti.  The Astor 36 is the first part of Bellini's industrial plan to re-enter boat production, which is to feature a three model line up with two other Astor's of 58 and 68 arriving in the near future.  The Astor 36 enters the competitive walk around segment, with a few distinct shining features versus similar competition.  It stand out feature is surely its drop down balconies, which are among the largest to size being about a third to the Astor 36 length.  These apart extending space, give also a sensation of being literally with the water rather then just on it even when for example sitting on the dinette.  Another feature of the Astor 36 is that it has a hull registration length of under ten meters able to be registered as a small Natante boat on the Italian registry.  Like similar walk around's the Bellini Astor 36 brings the usual layout of an aft sun-pad, dinette with opposing settee's, dual seat center console, with two steps up leading to the fore deck which has a forward bench settee in-front of the console, and a fore-peak sun-pad.  Down below the Bellini Astor 36 offers a four berth accommodation layout, with a double berth forward, a shower head to starboard, a cabin galley to port side, and a second double berth at midships.  The Bellini Astor 36 is powered by twin Volvo 350hp gas engines, and or 300hp diesel's with stern drive propulsion with these giving top speeds up to 32 knots.

Feadship presents the 82 meters Hull.712 titled m/y Sakura.  This latest 82 meters Feadship super yacht features a design and naval architecture by De Voogt, with its interiors designed by Sinot.  Feadship designers De Voogt went for the modern clean look the Dutch super yacht builder has been pushing in recent years, a style which arrived in Holland and in yachting with Hull.684, the highly publicized Bill Gates ordered m/y Venus as designed by unorthodox French designer Phillipe Starck.  Plum bowed Feadship seems very secretive about 712, with some of its features being an extendable beach area aft, a glass fronted swimming pool, a forward tender garage, and a heli-pad on the foredeck.  Feadship Hull.712 offers an accommodation for fourteen guests in seven staterooms, with 23 crew taking care of the guests and needs and wants of the super yacht.  Powered by twin Cats 1971hp Feadship Hull.712 reaches a top speed of seventeen knots, and has a range at optimal cruise of over five thousand nautical miles.

Fifty Years Plus of Sundancer

In a post on its social media page on seventeen March Sea Ray celebrated Fifty years of its Sundancer line.  Fifty years is not easy to do for a boat company let alone one of its lines, but the Sundancer has actually made it into its Golden Anniversary.  The Sea Ray Sundancer is probably one of the most famous sport cruiser model line name to have long existed, as introduced by original Sea Ray founder Cornelius Nathaniel Ray III, before selling the company with his name to Brunswick in 1986 for 350 million US dollars.

To be fair to Sea Ray it is actually a bit more then fifty years, as the first Sundancer arrived in 1981 when the SRV 310 Sundancer debuted.  A year later the SRV 270 Sundancer is presented, with the 340 Sundancer, the first Sundancer without the SRV arriving in the fall of 1984.  This was followed a year later by the first generation 300 Sundancer, and the 268 Sundancer in 1986, this model being one of Sea Ray's best and most selling boat in the eighties and of all time.  Excluding the two SRVs about eighty different Sundancer models have been made till today, varying in length from 21 to 63 foot in these fifty years, and delivered in thousands of units in total.

Taking away the past successes and impressive statistics of years gone by, the Sundancer line has been shrinking since the end of the twenty-tens decade, and today offers only three models from 26 to 37 foot. If you asked me that Sea Ray would offer only three Sundancer's some years ago I would have said this to be impossible, in what used to be in its peak a model in every two foot upwards of 24 till about fifty feet. The Sundancer was the North American boat dream of most families, and dominated the Sea Ray line up for four decades,  But today the interest from Sea Ray to the Sundancer is probably more about nostalgia then anything else, as the brand seems more interested in pushing its bow rider SLX line, as the sport cruiser series sits in its lowest position ever.

It is true that the North American boater needs and wants sub fifty foot have changed a lot in the past decade, with the rise of the center console and dual console boats taking over this part of the market.  But how Brunswick and Sea Ray has not managed to keep the Sundancer relative is something difficult to understand.  Considering also that most North American players in the segment have disappeared, leaving a less competitive sport cruiser market, these being Cruisers and its line up of cruisers and yachts from eleven to eighteen meters, and Regal which offers a complete line up from 24 to 42 foot in two lines.  In the nineties their used to be a never ending offer from US boat builders in the sport cruiser segment; Bayliner, Carver, Chaparral, Chris Craft, Doral, Formula, Four Winns, Mainship, Maxum, Monterey, Rinker, Tiara, Wellcraft.  Some of these have disappeared, most of them following the Great Recession of 2008, while others have focused on other segments of the market, with some still offering a sport cruiser model or two for the nostalgias.

Design evolution and what current generation boaters want is large more party orientated cockpits, something Sea Ray is offering to a certain extent with the latest 320 and 370 Sundancer models.  But trying not to expand more on these new generation Sundancers, along with the cabin comfort associated from the name into larger models and a more complete line up is beyond understanding, considering also how the name resonates in the American pleasure boating story.  It is like the Sundancer reset button was pressed in 2018 when the new 320 arrived, but then Sea Ray forgot why it pressed it.
