Aicon Yachts New Production Manager

Aicon Yachts is thrilled to introduce Mr. Giuseppe Picciolo as the new Production Manager for the shipyard; his joining our team marks a milestone in the journey of innovation and excellence we pursue. Giuseppe Picciolo's extraordinary experience in the shipbuilding industry is a testament to unwavering passion, innovation, and dedication, and we are delighted to welcome him to our team. In fact, Giuseppe Picciolo's career is nothing short of remarkable. His story begins in the early 2000s with Antago/Aicon; it was during those years that Giuseppe embarked on a journey of discovery and innovation that would shape his position within the nautical industry. With each step in his journey, he climbed the ranks, demonstrating his expertise in production, ultimately reaching the coveted position of Director of Production. His journey continued, taking him through Abacus Yachts and from there to renowned shipyards, including Fincantieri and Azimut. In an incredible twist of fate, Giuseppe Picciolo's path brings him back to his roots, to Sicily, his homeland, the place where it all began. Discovering Aicon Yachts in full production, Giuseppe realized he wanted to return to where his passion for the nautical industry had ignited over two decades ago. With Giuseppe on board, we are headed towards a promising future; his expertise will undoubtedly continue to shape the landscape of yacht design and construction.

Azimut Brings Artificial Intelligence Onboard

Azimut inaugurates the 2023|2024 nautical season with the announcement of new projects and partnerships, demonstrating the Shipyard’s dedication to continuous innovation. The recent collaboration with Google Cloud and Reply – the company specializing in the design and implementation of solutions based on new communication channels and digital media – is a promising example, with important implication for smart boat management.  The desire to discover new frontiers was already expressed in the debut of Magellano 60, which was used by the Group’s R&D department for the first long voyages powered by HVO – the biodiesel fuel produced by Eni Sustainable Mobility that has made it possible to reduce well-to-wake CO2 emissions by up to 80% – and chosen to bring the artificial intelligence of Google Cloud and Reply on board for the first time.  The two partners are synonymous with innovation, perfectly positioned to support the Shipyard’s path of digital transformation, which sees technology improve the experience of life on board, offering the freedom to focus more on what really matters: the sea, nature, and time with family and friends. Thanks to the collaboration with Google Cloud and Reply, Azimut has created a proprietary app that leverages Google Cloud data management and analysis and speech-to-text capacities included in its Vertex AI solution to combine boat management and smart home functionality for the first time, allowing you to interact with the yacht through voice commands or access the system remotely.  The beta version installed on board the Magellano 60 for testing – controls the entertainment, lighting and climate systems, as well as the appliances. It also displays up-to-date information from the main computer, allowing real-time water and fuel monitoring and supporting the optimization of resource management. Additionally, security cameras can be installed and integrated to remotely monitor the yacht.  “We are thrilled to support Azimut in its digital transformation path leveraging Google Cloud’s artificial intelligence solutions to help them providing their customers with a better experience onboard and develop new standards of innovation in their industry” explains Fabio Fregi, Country Manager Italy Google Cloud.  “The main challenge was integrating the digital world with physical engineering, which is our forte. From this union, with the support of Google Cloud technology, the app was created with all the functionalities that can be further implemented: we are currently combining the IoT (Internet of Things) component with AI to build an advanced conversational intelligence that can be queried for information on a specific knowledge domain, such as technical manuals on board” concludes Tatiana Rizzante, CEO of Reply.  With these unprecedented collaborations in the yachting industry, Azimut and its partners put technology at the service of beauty, to further enhance the onboard lifestyle.

Azimut Wins Best of Show for Fort Lauderdale 2023

A new recognition for Azimut comes from Fort Lauderdale, where the 64th edition of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show organized by Informa Markets has just ended. The Shipyard was awarded the Best of Show, organized by FLIBS together with Fox Sports.  The Best of Show is awarded to the most innovative boats on display at FLIBS. This year, the overall winner is the Grande 36M by Azimut, chosen from among eight finalists by an independent jury who rewarded its high level of design, architecture, performance, and technology.  Phil Purcell, CEO/President of the Marine Industries Association of South Florida which owns FLIBS, comments: “As an organization, we are firmly dedicated to being at the forefront of the industry, continuously setting the gold standard for excellence and innovation. Honoring Azimut and their remarkable team with this accolade at FLIBS signifies our commitment to leading the way in the world of boating and maritime excellence, and all the exceptional vessels which were showcased here are a testament to this dedication.”  “We are honored to win Best of Show for the Grande 36M. It recognizes the ongoing design and innovation research Azimut is globally renowned for. The Upper Deck's infinity semi-walkaround layout, first seen on a boat of this size, runs seamlessly from stern to bow. This model, which premiered at Flibs, is already drawing incredible interest and this award is the best way to welcome her successful debut in the US market.” says Federico Ferrante, President of Azimut Benetti Americas.

Cranchi Special Sea Trial

From San Giorgio di Nogaro, in the Northern Adriatic, to Porto Rotondo, at the heart of Sardinia's Costa Smeralda: four stops and over a thousand nautical miles on board a brand-new Settantotto 78.  These are the numbers behind a special sea trial performed by Cranchi Yachts' technicians to test in depth the performance of our flagship – its behaviour in the water, the operation of its equipment, and the level of soundproofing of the cabins and other interior areas.  We can't call it a cruise, then, but it's hard not to feel a little envious of those who took part in this task: circumnavigating the entire Italian peninsula and once again certifying the exceptional level of reliability of each and every detail of the yacht.  The quality control procedures are an integral part of the design and production phases of each of our models. Each vessel built therefore undergoes tests and inspections both at the shipyard and upon delivery in order to guarantee the highest level of owner satisfaction.

Cranchi Whole Range on Video

Cranchi presents a four minutes video, showing its full range of boats and yachts from 26 to 78 feet.  Take time out for four minutes of pure pleasure and watch an up-to-date overview of Cranchi's range of models: from the super-yacht class flagship to the 26' luxury tenders.

Cranchi Private Show Resumes

From October, the Cranchi Private Show schedule will resume: from week to week, a wide selection of models will be available for interior tours and reserved sea trials.  The Cranchi Private Show is held at the "Italo Monzino" Marine Test Centre, Cranchi Yachts' permanent showroom on the Adriatic. An exclusive location in a splendid natural setting which is easily reached from Milan, Venice, Treviso and Trieste airports.  Fill out the form to contact your local dealer, check availability of the models and arrange an appointment for a test drive.

Cranchi New Set of Brochures 2023/24

Those who have seen Cranchi at the boat shows will have also had the opportunity to discover the new brochures.  This set includes the volume Cranchi Yachts' Collections 2023/2024, with an overview of our entire range, as well as three catalogues dedicated to the individual collections.  In addition to these brochures are those dedicated to each individual model, including the new designs set to début in 2024.  The most demanding visitors have had the opportunity to leave our stands with the entire set of publications, but without weighing down their bags too much! Indeed, only the Cranchi Yachts' Collections catalogue is available on paper. All the other brochures are in PDF format, conveniently available by scanning the QR Code or visiting our website: an agile solution which allows the brochures to be stored and viewed at any time on your computer, tablet or smartphone.

CRN New International Certification for Sustainability

CRN, the historic shipyard specialising in the design, engineering and construction of superyachts up to 90 metres, has written an important chapter in the brand’s 60-year history by obtaining special recognition for the SuP-Y: Sustainable Powered Yacht Project. After a year and a half of R&D work together, RINA Services Spa confirms that the Ferretti Group Sustainable Yacht project is sized appropriately for proper functioning and easy management, and meets the regulatory requirements for safe implementation.  A coordinated effort by Ferretti Group Super Yacht Division, Weichai Power Science and Technology Division and RINA Services Spa has made it possible to develop a sustainable architecture that entails the installation of modern fuel cells on board a CRN superyacht. This new technology takes an important step towards the future of yachting, based on an easy-to-manage solution that meets all regulatory requirements to ensure safety on board.  The purpose of the project is to determine a sustainable technical architecture with the most efficient implementation of Fuel Cell technology on board a Ferretti Group Super Yacht. “Sustainable concepts” have been developed for two superyacht naval platforms: Platform 11.50 with hybrid propulsion for yachts from 60m to 70m, Platform 14.20 with a diesel-electric power plant for yachts from 75m to 90m.  Both architectures are equipped with PEM Fuel Cells as an alternative power source, fed by hydrogen reformed from green methanol and optimized to ensure predefined levels of performance and autonomy: several days in full hotel mode without diesel generators running and the capability to sail in zero emission mode for several hours depending on cruising speed. This approach significantly reduces total emissions and ensures compliance with the strictest environmental standards.  The collaboration with RINA Services Spa confirms and underscores CRN’s commitment to pushing both the boundaries of sustainable maritime applications and the brand’s proactive approach towards the incorporation of sustainable power supplies into their vessels. This initiative shows that the shipyard is at the forefront of adopting greener technologies within the yachting industry.

Feadship Receives Second Approval by Lloyds Register

Feadship received a second Approval-in-Principle (AiP) by Lloyd’s Register on their compact multi-fuel system design. This design is the result of long lasting R&D and industry cooperation, and underpins a milestone on Feadship’s energy transition roadmap. It is the starting point for several Feadship new-build projects under development. The main challenge was to identify all aspects associated with the containment and handling of low-flashpoint fuels and to engineer a fuel system that is both compact, remaining resilient for various fuels and foremost secures safety. The system design is engineered with the philosophy in mind, that the next generation of yachts has to be flexible to adept to the changing shipping fuel production and supply chain. Driven by shipping’s most predominant sectors and emission taxation regimes, vast investments are made into the construction of over already more than 120 large merchant ships and the required fuel production and supply chain. The fuel of choice across the global seagoing shipping board is ‘methanol’, leaving only the question “how to adept to this transition the next decade(s)?”.

Ferretti Custom Line Launches Six Hulls in Three Months

In little more than two months, six Custom Line superyachts from 30 to 42 metres in length have entered the water.  The launch of the 18th Custom Line 106’ Planing line hull took place last July 14 and was attended by the shipyard’s employees and the owner family. Custom Line 106’ M/Y CENTURY STAR, an emblem of clean architectural lines and timeless excellence, is a creation of the Ferretti Group Engineering Department, with the support of Francesco Paszkowski Design for the interiors and the exterior styling. The Custom Line Atelier played a crucial role in the interior design process, working in close and constant contact with the customer – based in the AMAS region – to interpret their wishes in terms of style. Pure lines and generous spaces – the yacht is 32.82 metres long and 7.4 metres in the beam – give this superyacht an understated refinement that features natural transitions between all the settings.  Late July saw the launch of the 28th Custom Line Navetta 33 hull. This Navetta line superyacht is the result of collaboration between the Strategic Product Committee – which handled the exterior styling – and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department, whose architects and designers created the interiors, with the support of strategic consulting provided by the Custom Line Atelier. The powerful but balanced profile of this 33-metre yacht with a 7.52-metre beam is the epitome of class and elegance. In the refined, harmonious design of the interiors, light, rich colours like milk white or snow white are set off against the darker, more seductive tones of bronze, black, lava grey and anthracite. These colour shades are reprised in the original furnishings and fine materials, such as polished Nero Marquina and polished Calcatta Ondulato marble.  M/Y KARMA C, the 15th hull in the Custom Line Navetta 30 line, entered the water on September 5 in a ceremony attended by the owners, who are based in the EMEA region. With a length of 28.43 m and a beam of 7.3 m, this superyacht is the result of collaboration between the Strategic Product Committee – which handled the exterior styling – and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department; the interior architecture is by ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, with strategic consulting provided by the Custom Line Atelier for the interior design and architect Filippo Salvetti for the exteriors. For the first time, Navetta 30 has a grey hull that, taken together with the outdoor spaces characterised by the horizontal sweep of the lines, extends the dynamism of the hull towards the bow, giving this megayacht a sleek and dynamic profile. The four-deck configuration amplifies the space on board, arranged in settings created to capture special moments of conviviality and relaxation. With the large, glazed surfaces in the hull and generous stern and bow areas, this superyacht offers a panoramic view in every direction.  The 19th superyacht in the Custom Line 106’ Planing line was launched on September 20. Custom Line 106’ embodies Made in Italy excellence, with hull lines designed to deliver hydrodynamic performance at the very highest level. The luminous beauty of this yacht is conferred on it by the light that permeates and amplifies the space on board. The outdoor and indoor areas feature a sophisticated but understated design, expressing a strong formal balance punctuated by a few standout elements. The harmonious colour palette is based on the use of neutral, warm colours such as white, sepia, various shades of light and dark brown and bronze, plus a few touches of grey-green, combined with sophisticated materials such as Bianco Lasa and polished Orobico marble.  On September 25, the third hull of the Custom Line 140’ Planing line flagship took to the sea, the result of collaboration between the Ferretti Group Engineering Department and Francesco Paszkowski Design for the exterior and interior design. With a sleek and powerful silhouette, Custom Line 140’ has an overall length of 42.61 metres and a maximum beam of 8.54 metres. The yacht has a sporty character and modern styling, with taught lines that sweep from bow to stern, creating an incredible alternation of materials and colours represented by the light-coloured structural surfaces and dark plate glass. The modern, elegant design of the outdoor and indoor areas is inspired by residential architecture and draws on in-depth research to enhance the shapes and volumes involved. The furnishings and decor, designed and produced in collaboration with renowned design brands, make use of original techniques and high-end materials. They include a wide selection of marbles such as Calcatta Gold and Roma Imperiale, brushed oak parquet and marquetry, or the craft of applying decorative veneers.  With the launch last October 3 of the tenth Custom Line 120’ hull M/Y CarMa, ordered by an owner based in the EMEA region, the brand’s entire Planing line entered water in less than a month.  With a length of 38.36 meters and a beam of 7.65 meters, this superyacht has a distinctly sporty personality defined by sleek, powerful contours and modern styling, offering the maximum in terms of speed, performance and wellbeing on board. The design connects the exterior and interior settings through large hull windows and floor-to-ceiling glazing on deck, allowing natural light reflected off the blue sea to flood in.  These latest launches testify to the success of Custom Line yachts, created to offer a magnificent experience at sea. They feature a blend of unique, standout factors, including innovative onboard technology, high performance and cutting-edge design, plus the high level of customisation resulting from strategic contributions by the Custom Line Atelier, which supports owners in every stage of the process and every decision, with the aim of creating a superyacht tailor made according to their own tastes and lifestyle.

Ferretti Group Opens Scuola dei Maestieri in Sarnico and Mondolfo

Ferretti Group is enjoying double-digit growth and as it seeks out new production sites it must also address the need to hire new specialized workers to assign to its luxury yacht production.  Craftsmanship and skills specific to the luxury yacht industry are talents increasingly in demand, especially at Ferretti, whose plans to expand production include the new Ravenna facility, a model of innovation and sustainability.  This is one of the reasons behind the Scuola dei Mestieri, a Ferretti Group project for 18 to 29-year-olds who want to start a career in the high-end Italian yacht industry.  The Group’s Scuola dei Mestieri is not based on simple extra-curricular apprenticeship but provides professional training courses that combine both theory and on-the-job experience in the shipyard. Training moves between classroom, workshops and hands-on experience in production departments, working towards concrete career prospects.  The goal of transferring knowledge will also be achieved by exploiting the Group’s own know-how: the classroom courses will be held by managers and key technical experts, including former yard managers and line foremen.  After completion of the first edition of the course, held in Forlì, the initiative will be extended to the Mondolfo and Sarnico sites.  In Sarnico, two Salesian training centres (Don Bosco and CFP Zanardelli) will enable apprentices to get hands-on experience of the workplace in the three main operating areas: mechanical and systems engineering, fitting out and carpentry, painting and fibreglass.  At the Mondolfo site, on the other hand, w.academy a business school specialising in training and placement will provide support for the training of apprentices specialising in marine engineering and hydraulic systems.  Including the upcoming edition of the Scuola dei Mestieri course in Forlì, over 50 apprentices will be trained for prospective employment in Ferretti Group yards.  Ferretti Group announced: “One of the greatest strengths of the Italian yacht industry, and of Ferretti Group in particular, is the unparalleled skill of its workforce, a mix of talent, experience and knowledge to be found nowhere else in the world. This is why our Scuola dei Mestieri project is so important to us, because more and more owners want our yachts, and we need to meet their demands while maintaining the high standards that make us unique. We therefore hope to find young professionals to employ in our yards in mutually profitable long-term employment relationships.”

Viking Annual Employee Appreciation Clam Bake

Although Tropical Philippe threatened Viking's annual Employee Appreciation Clam Bake, Mother Nature gave the New Gretna, New Jersey, a bluebird day. Viking Executive Vice President Drew Davala said, “We didn’t let the weather forecasters alter our decision and it turned out to be a perfect day for another wonderful Clam Bake. Friday we were building boats and Saturday we were hosting our boatbuilders and their families to a festive barbecue and fair."  Clams, pulled pork, burgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, cotton candy and cupcakes were just a few of the delicious culinary options. Activities included pumpkin painting and sand art, as well as amusement rides and tours of the manufacturing facility and boats.  Planned and organized by the Human Resources Department, the event involves over 100 managers, administrators and staffers who jump in to put on a festive day for the team building the boats in the plant. “Today is a day to thank our amazing family for building the best boats in the world,” said Drew. Viking Still Fighting Speed Restrictions

The NMMA and Center for Sportfishing Policy hosted an industry panel covering the latest developments related to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) proposed vessel speed restrictions on the Atlantic Coast and Gulf of Mexico at the International Boat Builders' Exhibition and Conference (IBEX) in Tampa.  Panelists included: Jeff Angers, Center for Sportfishing Policy; John DePersenaire, Viking Yachts; Paul Ryan, DCI Group; and Callie Hoyt, National Marine Manufacturers Association. They covered the current regulatory state of play, the initiatives taken by the marine industry in an effort to educate and inform impacted stakeholders and the pathway forward to protecting coastal economies, access to recreational boating and fishing, and marine wildlife.  The recreational boating and fishing community is actively working on a data-driven, technological solution focused on protecting the North Atlantic right whale and other endangered marine mammals. The panelists discussed their desire for an ongoing and constructive dialogue with NOAA to reach a solution together.  While the marine industry continues to advocate for a more balanced solution, the panelists stressed the importance of stakeholder outreach to members of Congress, state legislators and community leaders on how this rule will impact their businesses and access to public waters.

Viking Flu Fighters

There goes the flu out of the Viking Yacht Company. Viking’s Health Services has already distributed almost 500 doses of flu vaccines and still has more departments to cover. All employees and their families are eligible to receive a free inoculation at one of the New Jersey plants or an offsite weekend clinic. Once the shots have been completed for the Viking family, we offer them to members of our local community. This keeps Viking most valuable asset, the boatbuilders, happy and healthy.

Cayman Yachts New Web Site

Cayman Yachts presents its new World wide web virtual showroom.  Founded in 1990 by Luigi Prosperi, at the time a Mochi manager and then chairman in 1991, Cayman Yachts starts with a 30 foot model, delivered in seventy examples in ten years of production.  In the beginning and up till 1995 the Cayman models are produced at Mochi Craft, although the brand has always remained a separate entity.  In 1996 Cayman opens its production facility in La Spezia, the Cantieri Navali del Tirreno and launching the 38 Walk Around model designed by Nuvolari Lenard which was the start of good things to come. Nuvolari Lenard will design all the Cayman models till the 50 Fly launched in 2007, with two other models coming in between the entrance of Carlo Trezzi which debuts with the design of the 75 HT in 2008. In 2011 following the Great 2009 Recession Cayman goes under bankruptcy protection, closing its doors in 2012.  In 2016 Cayman is bought by Flag Marine, restarting production in 2017 with the new S450, which is followed a year later by the F920, Cayman largest build to date.  During nearly its first two decades Cayman design philosophy was that of a sport cruiser and yacht with sportfish design solutions for an all free space aft deck, with practical and safe deep walk around side decks as added on the 38 WA which launched in 1996.  Cayman Yachts will use this design up until the 54 WA HT it launched in 2008.  Following this model and the launch of the 75 HT project Cayman starts following a sportier design language.  Cayman currently offers eleven models divided into four ranges; Sport, Flybridge, Navetta, and Walk Around. Cayman range starts from the 2017 presented S450, and goes up to the 2018 launched F920 flagship, while its new 2023 models are the S600 and 540WA, with the N580 still being a project.  Cayman Yachts new website takes you around with the following buttons; Home. Sunseeker Yacht Destroyed by Fire in Haulover

A 26 meter Sunseeker super yacht went ablaze in Bal Harbour, Haulover Park Marina, 10800 Collins Ave, Northeast Miami-Dade County, Florida on 04:45 early morning time of Saturday 28 October.  The yacht was reported unattended at the time of the fire, with Miami-Dade Fire Recsue finding it difficult to arrive to the yacht due to the length of the dock.  The fire was controlled at about 07:00 hours although fire controls and checks where still ongoing, in order to avoid the possibility of a second burn out from the heat and fumes that had not yet stopped.  Miami-Dade Fire Rescue dispatched a total of 24 units including a few fireboats to control this fire.  No one was injured on the fire, with the cause of the blaze being under investigation.
The Sunseeker super yacht in this fire is a first generation 86 Yacht produced from 2008 till the fall of 09 in nine units.  The 86 Yacht has an interior with four double cabins and two crew cabins, and is powered by twin Man or Cat 1670hp for speeds up to thirty knots.  The 86 replaced the Sunseeker 82 Yacht, and evolved into the 88 Yacht in 2010 with standard hard-top and glazed hull windows replacing the three and four part large port holes.

New Launch: Feadship 84.20m Hull. 710

Feadships has launched hull #710, an 84.20 meter super yacht designed by RWD and Monk for both exterior and interior, and titled m/y Obsidian. Feadship #710 features surprising destination spaces, such as an asymmetrical atrium staircase leading to a lower deck dining saloon, where an entire wall opens to reveal a terrace view just above sea level. Near the stern is an Aqua Lounge with massive windows below water level. In place of a mooring deck forward there is a revelatory bow observation lounge with double-curved glass floor-to-ceiling windows. Terraced aft decks float without pillars, while glass balustrades allow unobstructed views from both aft deck and fully glazed aft interior spaces, creating a vital connection to the natural environment.  Striving for innovation and first-class engineering, Feadship 710 is the perfect next step on the famous Dutch super yacht path toward building zero-emission superyachts by 2030. It is the first of the new generation of large yachts furthering carbon reduction through hulls optimised at cruising speed instead of top speed, weight control, advancements in electric propulsion, and the ability to run her generators on HVO, a second-generation biodiesel, a so-called net zero CO2 fuel. Sea trials and delivery fill where all made with HVO, reducing total CO2 emissions by about 90%. Hull 710 made full use of Feadship’s Advanced Electrical Drive program for diesel-electric hybrid power, and has 4.5 times more electrical storage capacity than the first hybrid yacht, the famous Savannah hull number. 686. Feadship #710 has also no drive shafts, and no rudders with an electric drive and steering provided by a pair of electric Veth contra-rotating thrusters. Feadship and Veth collaborated on computational fluid dynamics analysis of the drive legs and propellors’ shapes to maximize efficiency and minimize vibration.  Providing energy for the luxury hotel load accounts for much of a yacht’s fuel consumption, for Feadship 710, the engineering team took a deep dive into capturing waste heat from the custom variable speed generators and air conditioner chiller to supply heat to the AC system, pool water, domestic water, and engine preheating, while an innovative heat pump system allows the yacht to draw heat from seawater.

Viking Sportfish Ends Aground in Long Island, Bahamas

A fifteen meter Viking sportfish yacht titled Oh Reely under Montenego Bay, Jamaica flag ended aground on Long Island, Bahamas reportedly on the morning of Friday 27 October.  According to reports the Oh Reely was navigating from Jamaica on the way to Florida, where it developed a technical mechanical problem which unfortunately ended the sportfish aground and on the rocks.  Unfortunately for Oh Reely things got even worse as with the tide going up and waves rolling, the sportfish became a total wreck splitting in the aft cockpit side, with the starboard hull side completely opening up with the wave-rock crushing.
Oh Reely is a second generation Viking 50 Convertible produced from the fall of 2008 up to 2013.  The 50 Convertible offers a three double cabins layout with a midships starboard side owners stateroom, and is powered by twin Man 1100 or 1360hp engines, with top speeds up to forty knots from the large engine option.  The 50 Convertible came as a replacement to the Viking 48 Convertible and was replaced by the 52 Convertible in 2014.

Project: Pershing GTX80

The show flows on, and following the launch of the GTX116 this 2023 year, the Pershing GTX range enters its second phase with the project for a smaller GTX80 announced during the Dusseldorf boat show and set to launch in 2024.  These are some of the first renderings for the smaller GTX, the grand tourer crossover by Pershing. Designed as all Pershing since the brand was founded by Fulvio de Simoni the GTX80 is a super sport yacht of 24 meters in length, with a profile which is sportier leaner and symmetric, unlike the bigger 35 meter sister which is a more adventurous looking and features an asymmetric design with a side deck to port side and full-width to starboard.  Long time Pershing fans might also notice the GTX80 semi-circle side profile coach roof window design which echoes that of the integrated windscreen the brand and Fulvio de Simoni introduced in 1991.  Another different feature of the GTX80 to that of the larger sister will also be the opening drop down bulk-heads aft which double the size of the beach club bathing area.  The Pershing GTX80 will offer a four double guest cabin eight berths layout, with a crew cabin sleeping two located to starboard in between the engine room and cabin area.  The main deck of the GTX80 layout is an open astern galley to port side, a relax chaise lounge with low table opposite, an American dinner sofa forward, and central two-seats helm station, with port and starboard doors which lead to the fore deck.  The Pershing GTX80 also has a sport-flying-bridge leading you up with a stair-way to starboard, and a layout with a central sun-pad, dinette and helm station.  The fore-deck also features an entertainment dining relaxing area with dinette and a sun-pad further forward.  The Pershing GTX80 comes with a host of options from dark to light mood finishing inside, to the choice to offer a dining table in replacement to the chaise lounge to starboard, the fourth cabin replaced by a lower L-shaped dinette, and the optional T-top serving the flying bridge.  The Pershing GTX80 is to be powered by triple Volvo 1000hp with IPS pod drives, and so far no other engine options are known, although the official press release for the model is not yet out.  If further information is out this project post will be updated.

Hurricane Otis Goes Apocalyptic in Acapulco

Hurricane Otis made an apocalyptic arrival in Acapulco on Wednesday 25 October, devastating the waterfront of the Acapulco Yacht Club in the North-West of the bay.  Otis was a compact and so far the most powerful Tropical storm category five hurricane of the 2023 Pacific Season reaching speeds up to 143 knots on the morning of October 25. Forming on the 22nd November, and reaching its peak on the 04:00 hours of October 25, Otis hit and made landfall in Isla de la Roqueta, to the South of Acapulco, killing 49 people, with 57 still missing, and is estimated to have made seventeen billion US dollars in damages.
Scene from the North part of the of Acapulco Yacht Club, you can see an Azimut 54, and a Sunseeker Predator 63 Open to the left corner, along with a few Sea Rays.
Here is the South side is a Ferretti 800, followed by a Sunseeker Predator 57, a mid nineties Horizon Elegance 82, and an Azimut 100 Jumbo.
A before and after Hurricane Otis view of Acapulco Bay.  Possibly one of the biggest single areas destructions, and devastations ever seen.

New Model: Galeon 450 HTC

Galeon presents the new 450 HTC, the hard top coupe variant of the second generation 440 Fly model which debuted in early 2022.  That means the 450 HTC is hard top coupe with a fully enclosed patio door main deck, with a sunroof which opens for a third of the coach roof length to let sun and fresh air in.  Beside sportier leaner looks and an opening hard-top replacing the flybridge the 450 HTC is nearly identical to the 440 Fly, full of Galeon fourth generation features like the hexagonal bow shape, and latest in transformational drop down bulk heads which extend cockpit space by another forty per cent aft.  Beside the transformative features the Galeon still surprises for its spaces, offering three different lower deck layouts, from the standard two master and forward VIP cabins layout, to two different three cabin layouts. One of the three cabins layouts moves the master cabin forward and offers two nearly identical sized guest cabins at midships with double berth to starboard, while the third optional layout keeps the layout of the two cabin and offers a third cabin with two bunks berths to starboard and eats away some space from the fore cabin with the bed resting to starboard side from the central position of the two cabins layout.  The Galeon 450 HTS is to be powered by twin Volvo 480hp engines with line shaft V-drive propulsion for top speeds of about 27 knots.

Project: Cruisers 55 Fly

Cruisers present the project for a 55 Fly set to debut before the first half of 2024, and the first in a three model flybridge range, with a second model set to arrive in 2025.  Designed by Luiz Debasto, the Cruisers 55 Fly replaces the 2017 launched 54 Fly model which came from a Facheris design and was based on the 54 Cantius.  The 55 Fly is the first totally new Cruisers range to come from the since April 2022 ownership of MarineMax, which is also North America's largest boat dealership and a distributor to both European made Azimut and Galeon yachts.  With Luiz Debasto presenting a head to toe Euro-designed offer from an American brand ever, it will be interesting how the Cruisers 55 Fly and the following models will affect the dealership of these brands.  With a length overall just shy of seventeen meters Cruisers is saying the 55 Fly will offer a three cabin layout, with rendering showing a full beam midships owners stateroom and an astern galley main deck.  Another feature of the 55 Fly will be a drop down bulwark to port side, which is not really a new feature for Cruisers, who offers this in its sporty 38 to fifty feet GLS models, but never in the eleven to eighteen meters Cantius yacht series.  The Cruisers 55 Fly is to be powered by twin Volvo 725hp engines with IPS pod drives propulsion.

Hurricane Norma 2023

Norma is the ninth hurricane of the Pacific 2023 season.  Forming from a low pressure appearing on the fifteen October to the Southern Coast of Mexico, which on the seventeen became a Tropical storm, and becoming a Hurricane the morning after of the eighteen. For the next 24 hours Norma will increase speeds from sixty to 112 knots becoming a category four Hurricane and causing chaos in the Southern Western Coast of Mexico.  Norma started to weaken on October 20, but made a second round of seventy knots winds on the 21st doing damage to the West-North-West of Cabo San Lucas, with a third round on the 23rd at Sinaloa near El Dorado.  After this Norma became a remnant low pressure.
Hurricane Norma has caused major damage to La Paz and Marina Cortez to the East of Baja California Sur, with about fifty boats reported lost or damaged.  Above is a photo screen from a one of the videos circulating on social media showing the damage to La Paz marina.  This video showed a few catamarans and sail yachts sank, with the above motor yacht looking like a Hampton 490 Pilothouse semi-sank, and other motor yachts showing damage to the bathing platforms and hull sides.
A video on YouTube by Your Saltwater Guide also showed a Cantieri di Pisa Akhir 30 S which was taken aground by the storms surge power.
While Alan Flores Ramos on Twitter showed the 2021 Ferretti Custom Line Navetta 33, hull #16 m/y Ricacha mostly sank vertically with its port side anchor out.  It is reported on some sources that Ricacha sought refuge in La Paz only for it to sustain damage in a collision and then sink.  The crew were rescued, with an operation to salvage Ricacha being underway.

New Model: Dominator Midi Ilumen M35

The smaller Ilumen series has been coming for three years from Dominator, with the first announcement for a mini-sized tender at about seven meters coming in 2020.  In 2022 Dominator announced a slightly larger Midi Ilumen, at over ten meters in length is under construction, and finally the M35 has debuted the past Summer 2023.  A request from a customer who owns a Dominator Ilumen 28M, the Midi Ilumen M35 is a scaled 40% smaller of the bigger super yacht version in both looks and size.  A day cruiser and boat with an exterior layout offering two sun-pads aft with a central passageway which one step down leads you to cockpit with two L-shaped settees, and a wet-bar. The lower deck in the Midi Ilumen M35 offers a V-shaped dinette forward which transforms to a double berth, with a small galley to entrance and well sized shower head opposite to starboard.  In the Midi Ilumen the style versus practicality is a recurring theme, but the M35 has practical details in its own way.  One of the things to like is for example the deep central cockpit wrapped around by the super yacht looking windscreen and radar arch.  The Dominator Midi Ilumen M35 hull one is powered by twin Volvo 300hp diesels for a top speeds up to 37 knots, and a 25 cruise giving an important 350 nautical miles range.

A 28 meter Sunseeker sport yacht titled Code, with a captain and two crew ran aground in the islet of Pijavica, near Trogir Bay in Croatia at 06:35 hours of Monday 23rd October.  No one was injured in the grounding with Telegram news reporting that the captain of Code deliberately ran the yacht aground in order to save her from sinking. During the preliminary inspection by Split harbour master, Code is reported to have its hull fully resting on the island cliff, and carrying just over 3,000 liters fuel, and as precaution was surrounded with floating dams by the Voluntary Fire Company of Kastela.

This starts as a ghost thriller, when an eighteen meter motor yacht titled Carpe Diem under French flag and without crew, ended aground in-front of Controvento, on the sands of Fregenae beach, to the outskirts of Rome on the Eastern water-front at about 16:00 hours of Sunday 22nd October.  At the grounding the crew-less motor yacht gathered a group of curious persons, with a first under-water inspection coming from the Centrovento establishment staff, and then later in the afternoon followed by that of the Police.  Finding some clothes and a confused messy interior, with a fishing rod at the stern, and following the yacht registration the Italian police found that Carpe Diem was previously owned by a Croatian who sold it in 2022, to the current ownership.  Later on in the evening the thriller was partly solved with the investigation telling that the yacht was navigating to Marseille with three Croatian crew, when it developed a mechanical problem seventy nautical miles offshore from Anzio on the fifteen of October.  Calling a May-Day also due to the rough seas, the three crew abandoned the yacht with assistance and boarding on the Excelsior ferry, who dropped them in Genova harbour.  Following further investigations by the Rome Coast Guard and of receipts found onboard it was also discovered the itinerary for the yacht before it was abandoned, berthing in Lecce, and Marina di Camerota harbours.  The coast guard is now organizing the removal of the yacht from Fregenae beach to avoid any environment and pollution damage.
Carpe Diem the yacht in this grounding is a Guy Couach 185 Fly from 1999.  Produced from 1996 to 2000 the Guy Couach 185 Fly offers a three double cabins layout with a full beam owners stateroom, plus a crew cabin located forward, and is powered by twin MTU 767hp for top speeds up to 28 knots. A replacement to the 1901, the 185 Fly was replaced by the Guy Couach 1900 model in 2001.  Guy Couach or as is known recently as Couach Yachts is a yacht builder from Cujan Mestras to the West of France, which started in 1897 by building the World first marine engine, and entering production boat building with the Arcoa brand in 1947, and then with Guy Couach in 1968 and the 1200 model for bigger boats.  Two years after this, in 1970 Couach also entered into the supply of military and surveillance vessels, which is still a part of its business today.

Coronet New Web Site

Coronet presents its new web site.  Founded in 1951 by Botveld in Denmark, Coronet first model was the 18 Hardtop Sedan debuting in 1956 to a design of Richard C.Cole, produced in two other versions this five meter cabin cruiser will sell 483 units in a nine year production run.  Coronet became a global boating name in the sixties and seventies for a few reasons with the most important being that the Danish production boat builder models where used to test, and then the first to commercialize the Volvo Aquamatic stern drive on its boats, with the 20 Explorer debuting the new inboard-outboard propulsion system.  The other is Coronet's 21 Day Cruiser designed by the famous Jim Wynn and Walt Walters combo, this model debuting in 1965 became an instant classic and sold 1406 plus another 505 hulls in the other Playmate, Sunrunner, and Explorer II variants.  Coronet had other models selling one thousand plus units with the 20/21/22 Explorer from 1959 to 65 selling 1480, and the 24 De Luxe/Cabin produced in 875 hulls plus another 1217 in the five other variants.  Unknown to many is that Coronet also tried its luck in sail boats building two models, the nine meter LA Cruiser produced from 1958 to 67 and the 38 Elvstrom from 1974 to 86.  With a fame for seaworthiness Coronet got also to build patrol boats for the army, customs, navy, police authorities all over the World, delivering over five hundred units from 1964 to 79 of the 21, 24, 27, and 30 Wynn-Walters designed deep-Vee hull models.  Coronet will expand till the seventies with a decline starting in the end of that decade, and an ownership change happening in the eighties.  Coronet will close in 1992 when it was producing four models from 24 to the 45 feet 450 Fly flagship, which is the Danish largest build to date. From 1993 to 2005 Coronet disappeared returning again for the three year 2006 to 2009 Tuco ownership who reoffered the 240 Day Cruiser and two new 290 models debuting in 2008, with a project for a 35 footer which never materialized.  In 2020 Coronet returned with a new ownership headed by Pal Thore Krosby, who debuted the new 35 Suncruiser model in the fall of 2022, as designed by chief designer Andreas Lind.  Coronet new website is available in Danish, Norwegian, and English language and takes you around with the following buttons; Home, About the Boat, Equipment, About Us, and Contact Us.  Coronet is also on social media with buttons on the bottom of the page taking you to its Facebook and Instagram pages.
