Committed to sustainable yachting, Tony Parker achieves Sea Index® certification with his m/y Infinity Nine.  The list of Sea Index® certified superyachts continues to expand with the addition of the 35m m/y Infinity Nine built by AvA Yachts in 2022 and owned by Yacht Club de Monaco member Tony Parker.  The former NBA champion received the certificate from Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) President HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco at an official ceremony.  Since its launch in 2020 by YCM and Credit Suisse (a UBS brand), this system for assessing the environmental impact of superyachts has certified 55 yachts, reinforcing its role as a reference for sustainable yachting.  With a gross tonnage of 333 GT, M/Y Infinity Nine which flies the YCM flag is the second vessel in AvA Yachts’ Kando 110 series. Designed as a compact explorer, it has transoceanic capabilities with a range of over 6,500 nautical miles before refuelling, a record for its category.  It is thanks to cutting edge technologies and its energy efficiency that the yacht earned the 3-Star SEA Index® certification, confirming the team’s commitment to reduce yachting’s impact on the environment.  ‘’From the design stage, we had a clear and determined desire to build M/Y Infinity Nine, a yacht that could combine innovation and performance with an environmental approach. Azimut Best of the Best China Award 2025

Azimut confirms itself as the most appealing brand among HNWIs in China. The results of the latest research conducted by the prestigious Hurun Research Institute have seen the Shipyard awarded as the "Best Innovative Yacht Brand" and the revolutionary Seadeck 7 awarded the title of “Luxury Hybrid Yacht Best New Arrival.”  Azimut is recognized, yet again, as a pioneer of innovation in the nautical sector, winning two important awards at the Best of the Best Awards 2025, presented by the Hurun Research Institute based on the results of the Hurun Chinese Luxury Consumer Survey.  Every year, the Hurun Research Institute, an authoritative research center linked to the Chinese business and lifestyle magazine of the same name, analyzes the preferences of high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) in China through a survey conducted on a panel of 750 HNWIs, with an average wealth of 47.5 million CNY (equivalent to 6.5 million US dollars) and an investable wealth of 12 million CNY (1.6 million US dollars). Among them, 32 are UHNWIs, exceeding 100 million CNY (14 million US dollars) in wealth.  During the awards ceremony held in Shanghai, the Shipyard was awarded as the “Best Innovative Yacht Brand”. This title, already given to Azimut in a previous edition of the award, celebrates the Shipyard’s unending search for cutting-edge solutions to offer a unique experience to its owners.  In addition, the revolutionary Seadeck 7 received the prestigious "Luxury Hybrid Yacht Best New Arrival" award, underlining the revolutionary impact of this model on the market. As the first production yacht to integrate a hybrid-electric system with Volvo Penta IPS propulsion, the Seadeck 7 allows a reduction in CO₂ emissions of up to 40% in an average year of use, offering a concrete alternative for an owner attentive to sustainability without compromising comfort and performance.  With this double success at the Best of the Best Awards 2025, Azimut confirms its role as a reference in luxury yachting and strengthens its presence in China, where, since 2006, it has delivered around 200 boats to local owners. This milestone is yet another testament to the success of the brand and its ability to anticipate market trends, as it charts the course towards an increasingly innovative and sustainable future.

Azimut Yachts New Official Dealer for Poland

Azimut has signed an agreement with Supreme Yachts to consolidate the brand’s presence in Poland.  The company will operate as Azimut Yachts Poland, becoming the Shipyard’s exclusive dealer in the region.  Azimut continues to consolidate its presence in Europe by strengthening its network of regional dealers. With a deep knowledge of the luxury market and its target audience, he started Supreme Yachts after recognizing and appreciating the excellence of the yachts and services offered by Azimut. Azimut Yachts Poland will guarantee customers an exclusive purchasing experience, based on the same values that define the Shipyard: innovation, quality and attention to detail.  Azimut Chief Commercial Officer EMEA-APAC Enrico Chiaussa added, “The agreement with Supreme Yachts in Poland is an important step in the expansion strategy that we are pursuing across the major geographical areas of Europe and we are certain that we will consolidate our leadership and expand our network of customers in the coming years. Our organizational structure and the values that we share with Azimut will guarantee Polish owners an exclusive experience, with continuous assistance both in Polish territory and at their favorite destinations.”  For Azimut, Poland represents a fast-growing area with a UHNWI population that is increasingly interested in luxury and cruising, and particularly attentive to excellence and the possibility of enjoying exclusive experiences. Its geographical position on the Baltic Sea, together with the growing focus on the Mediterranean and the presence of numerous Polish owners who moor in the Adriatic Sea, makes this country a strategic area for Azimut’s expansion.

Cantieri di Pisa Refit Division Sees Wave of Orders

Intense activity continues to be the story at Cantieri di Pisa, starting with its refit division, which in the last three years has seen a surge in demand.  Among the numerous boats undergoing work at the yard, over thirty yachts at present, there are three superyachts built by some of the world’s most important builders: a 50-metre Benetti, a 41-metre Feadship and a 43-metre Perini Navi sailing yacht, all close to being handed back to their owners.

Cranchi at Fuorisalone with Immersio Temporis

From April 7th to 13th, the historic Palazzo Clerici, located in the heart of the Brera Design District, will host this impressive installation that explores the concept of time through a dual immersion, both physical and metaphorical. "Immersio Temporis" is an interpretation of design and nautical art that transcends temporal boundaries and reimagines the perception of time, in a sensory experience that blends beauty, innovation, and tradition.  The installation invites the viewer to look upwards from an unusual perspective. This new viewpoint transforms the perception of the surrounding environment: the hull, suspended between sky and earth, represents a crystallized moment, a point of equilibrium where time seems to suspend itself. It plays with the concepts of fluidity and change, much like water, which holds stories and memories. The blue fabrics—evocative of water and made from 500 square meters of printed crystal fabric—suggest continuity and immutability.  The gaze is then drawn to the solid anchoring to the ground, symbolizing the foundations on which Cranchi Yachts has built its success since 1870. The work creates a strong contrast between the perception of lightness and the solidity of its very structure.

The deal for a Greenline 45 Coupe was inked at boot Düsseldorf 2025, with the funds received in early February. This time it was different, and the transaction proceeded very smoothly. We would welcome future payments in cryptocurrency.”  The buyer was introduced by Yacht Partners International in Greece, and he quickly reached the contract stage for the 45 Coupe. This will be deployed by Azimut|Benetti Group’s R&D Team as an eco-design tool to enhance the sustainability of its fleet.  Applicable to both fully custom and semi-custom yachts >24m, the Sea Index CO2 Emissions Rating tool delivers accurate, unbiased and third-party verified emissions data. In addition to being used by yacht owners to assess the energy intensity of their vessels, the Sea Index framework can be integrated into the concept phase of new-build yachts to support eco-conscious boat design and construction.  "We are thrilled to partner with Sea Index to reinforce our commitment to sustainable yacht design by validating our yachts' emission targets through Sea Index’s rigorous framework. Achieved through advanced naval architecture and cutting-edge technologies, these targets reflect our dedication to innovation and environmental responsibility. Furthermore, we believe this collaboration will encourage greater transparency in data sharing, fostering a more conscious approach among industry players and yacht owners alike,” states Alessandro Rossi, Chief Product Officer Azimut|Benetti Group.  This initiative marks the next chapter in the partnership between Azimut|Benetti Group and SEA Index, following the 2023 announcement of the upcoming adoption of the Carbon Emission Index for yachts under 24 meters, developed by Lloyd’s Register at the drive of Azimut|Benetti Group. This innovative formula is designed to accurately assess and rate the carbon footprint of <24m yachts, involving the most widespread category of yachts in our seas.  “We are delighted to collaborate with Azimut|Benetti Group on this important initiative. It is encouraging to see esteemed industry leaders embracing the Sea Index CO2 Emissions Rating tool to prioritise sustainability from the outset. Similarly, we look forward to incorporating Azimut’s formula for measuring carbon emissions of yachts under 24 metres into the SEA Index ecosystem. Together, we can drive meaningful change in the industry and empower yachting stakeholders to embrace a more sustainable future”, comments Natalie Quevert, Project Lead, Sea  Index.

Bayliss January Tournaments News

Bayliss Boatworks teams have kicked off the year with impressive results at two prominent billfish tournaments. Mama Seata (Hull 5/Bayliss 64') and Catch 23 (Bayliss 82') delivered outstanding performances at the Pelagic Rockstar Offshore Billfish Tournament, while six Bayliss builds showcased their talent during Leg 1 of the Signature Triple Crown.  At the Rockstar tournament, Mama Seata had an incredible run, releasing 62 billfish—2 blue marlin and 60 sailfish—which earned them 3rd place overall. Over two days of competition, the team racked up 6,600 points and secured 2nd place finishes in both the Sonar 20K Billfish Release and Sonar 3K Billfish Release Overall divisions.  Catch 23 also delivered an impressive performance, claiming the daily win in all marlin divisions on Day 1 after releasing two blue marlin. By the tournament’s conclusion, the team had released 36 billfish, including 2 blue marlin, 1 black marlin, and 33 sailfish.  In late January, the prestigious Signature Triple Crown billfish tournament kicked off, with Mama Seata carrying momentum into Leg 1. Additionally, Tarheel and Catch 23 also made their mark, taking 4th and 5th place for the daily, respectively, on Day 3.  This exceptional representation of Bayliss Boatworks is a testament to the skill and dedication of the crews and the craftsmanship of the vessels. Congratulations to Mama Seata, Catch 23, and all Bayliss teams for their hard work and accomplishments. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store!

Bavaria Showroom Weekend

On the first weekend in February, Bavaria Yachts in Giebelstadt and more than twenty Bavaria Yachts dealers worldwide opened their doors for the International Bavaria Yachts Showroom Weekend.  More than 200 customers and owners accepted the invitation to the shipyard near Würzburg. In addition to the presentation of the new Bavaria SR35 Open Top and Bavaria Vida motorboats, Bavaria also showed it’s new hardtop for the C46 for the first time. Right on time on Saturday 1st February at 10 am, the first cars arrived in front of the Yachten Meltl showroom in Bernau.  The Saal Marina at the Danube, Bavaria Norge in Oslo, Evasion in the south of France and all other participating dealers reported a full house on Saturday. At the Bavaria shipyard, many customers had already been given a tour of the production facilities on Friday and by the weekend it was really crowded. Over 200 guests were counted by Sunday evening. In addition to the shipyard itself, visitors focused on the sailing and motor boats on display in the showroom.  Bavaria presented the Vida with a new cockpit layout and new Suzuki engines for the first time. The Vida has also changed a lot below deck. In the layout with a large sun lounger on the foredeck, the berth in the cabin has grown to 2.10 metres in length and over 2 metres in width.  In addition to the classic hardtop version, Bavaria is starting the new year with an Open Top version of its successful SR35. A lowered windscreen gives the Bavaria SR35 a real open feeling and therefore even more driving pleasure.  “In cooperation with our dealers in Europe and North America, the International Bavaria Yachts Showroom Weekend was a complete success that we will certainly repeat. When else do you have the opportunity to talk to customers in a relaxed atmosphere and clarify specific questions directly on the boat,” reports Bavaria Yachts CEO Michael Müller.  But before a new Showroom Weekend is planned, Bavaria Yachts and its dealer network have the spring boat shows in Tulln, St. Malo and Neustadt, for example, and a trial sail for customers of Yachts Meltl in Croatia at the beginning of April on the agenda.

Bavaria Expands Service Network

Bavaria Yachts is further expanding its service network for Bavaria owners in the Mediterranean area.  Pitter Yachtcharter in Biograd has now become a new base in Croatia and an authorised Bavaria Service Partner. Pitter Yachtcharter just opened its new dry dock marina not far from the harbour in Biograd at the beginning of the year.  In addition to its international dealer network, Bavaria is further expanding its service network for customers in the Mediterranean. The aim is to provide Bavaria owners with additional service partners who are not only authorised by Bavaria Yachts to carry out all work on a Bavaria, from simple maintenance and repair work to warranty services, but who can also offer all standard spare parts on site. The authorised Bavaria Yachts service partners are trained by Bavaria and are in constant contact with the shipyard's experts.  Pitter Yachtcharter, known to many customers for its large charter fleet of Bavaria yachts in Croatia and the Mediterranean, is now the latest authorised Bavaria Yachts service partner. Based in Biograd, not only for Croatia but for the entire Adriatic region, Pitter is the point of contact for all owners of Bavaria Yachts. The brand-new dry dock marina in the immediate vicinity of Marina Biograd has just been opened by the Pitter team at the beginning of the year.  The dry dock marina extends over 14,000 square metres and offers 80 dry dock berths for boats and yachts up to 10 metres in length. Pitter's experienced team of technicians offers a wide range of services, from regular maintenance to complex repairs or a complete refit.  ‘Our aim is to offer Bavaria owners a dense service network with first-class partners - the cooperation with Pitter Yachtcharter is another important step in this direction,’ explains Dominik Hart, Head of Customer Service and Quality at Bavaria Yachts.

Benetti Yachtmaster 2025

At its annual gathering for captains, surveyors, owner representatives and industry experts, Benetti reaffirms its leadership in innovation and design by presenting the latest products and sustainable technologies from the company’s Design and Research & Development departments and the new customer service through to after-sales. Devised and launched with great passion and foresight by Azimut|Benetti Group founder Paolo Vitelli in 2000, the Benetti Yachtmaster has this year reached its 25th edition, held in the splendid setting of the Fairmont Royal Palm Hotel in Marrakesh from February 12 to 14. With over 200 guests, the two-day event was organized for major international industry players, captains, surveyors and owner representatives to share their experiences. Day 1 was devoted entirely to an innovative coaching session based on a Serious Game. Sitting around a table, groups of 10 people used ‘conversation cards’ as a dynamic tool to stimulate discussion around the most relevant work issues. In a collective brainstorming session, participants shared ideas and solutions to identify areas for improvement guided by three key principles: communication, collaboration and connection. The goal was to foster an open, constructive dialogue, promoting innovative strategies to strengthen relationships between colleagues and improve overall efficiency. Day 2 was an opportunity for all the participants to get a closer look at Benetti’s vision of the future in terms of innovation and design, sustainability and assistance, with the contribution of the Group’s refit division Lusben. Azimut|Benetti Group CEO Marco Valle opened this plenary session by celebrating, in this particularly significant year for the Shipyard, the Yachtmaster’s first quarter of a century and its profound significance for relationships with stakeholders. He also underscored the Group’s successes by analysing the results of the Global Order Book promoted by BOAT International and published in December 2024. Benetti General Manager Massimiliano Casoni focused the conversation on the strategic value of collaboration between the Shipyard and the main players in the boat building industry, which is what underpins Benetti’s determination to establish deeper relationships, rooted in trust and shared values, for the ultimate purpose of greater owner satisfaction. To further consolidate these relationships, the Shipyard conducted interviews in 2024 using the Net Promoter Score (NPS), an effective tool for measuring customer satisfaction and understanding customers’ propensity to recommend the brand. Together with other tools, the interview results helped identify Benetti’s strengths and areas for improvement. In explaining this strategy, Benetti GM Massimiliano Casoni added that “Benetti’s success is based on constant dialogue with the various players, including captains, who play a key role in telling the yacht builder what the real onboard requirements are. This is an ongoing dialogue that’s far more than the mere delivery of a product: Benetti’s goal is to create made-to-measure yachts that meet the specific needs of owners, captains and crew, thereby guaranteeing an exclusive yachting experience”. Next, Benetti Sales Manager Daniela Petrozzi illustrated the order backlog up to the end of 2028, with 60 yachts under construction and on order totalling over 2.7 km in length, each built to meet the needs of a specific owner. Every Benetti yacht, in fact, is tailor made and built to meet the customer’s expectations, and this is made possible by the wide range of products. Petrozzi drew attention to the backlog’s breakdown by geographical region – Europe (35%), MEA and APAC (33%), Americas (32%) – and extended a special thank you to the captains, brokers and surveyors with whom Benetti works and who contributed to securing 75% of the contracts involved. Benetti Head of Product Sebastiano Vida spoke about Benetti’s special role as ‘The House of Yachting’, a definition that reflects the pleasure boat sector’s perception of the brand’s excellence and at the same time its huge responsibility towards everyone who wants to enjoy the experience of owning a Benetti yacht. This calls for exceptional design, Italian craftsmanship and quality, technological innovation, commitment to sustainability and solutions providing unique levels of customisation. It’s also why the Shipyard launched a new initiative, “Perspective from the Bridge”, enabling captains to explain their point of view at a roundtable focusing on topics such as innovation, sustainability and insights into owners’ ways of enjoying their yachts, the aim being to continually improve their onboard experience. This was also an opportunity to illustrate the projects presented at the Monaco Boat Show last September. Gilberto Francesini (Benetti R&D Project Manager) and Marco Coiatelli (Benetti Custom Head of Engineering) presented the Shipyard’s Green Route up to the present day and anticipated some future developments. Benetti and the Group for over 20 years have been actively engaged in seeking out real-world solutions for cutting CO2 emissions. The most recent developments at Azimut|Benetti Group’s R&D department have centred on the study of alternative fuels, which led to the adoption of HVO, a biofuel obtained from renewable raw materials* that makes it possible to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90% compared to the standard fossil mix, depending on the materials used in its production. HVO is seen as the ideal solution today, but given the limited availability of raw materials to produce it, the Group R&D office performed new research on green methanol from renewable sources to be used on Benetti yachts as soon as 2025. A methanol engine room simulator (based on a new 68M project) will be installed in Livorno to help captains familiarize themselves with the functions, safety and management of this new solution. Benetti Class Warranty Manager Pierluigi Rago and Benetti Custom Warranty Manager Luigi Spina illustrated one of the pillars of Benetti’s strategy, the new assistance programmes serving owners and crews of the Class and Custom yacht lines, offering constant personalized support to the Shipyard’s highest standards wherever the boat is and not limited to the new build phase but for the yacht’s entire life cycle. Every unit has the benefit of a dedicated Service Manager during the warranty period and a global network of Service Points designed to guarantee prompt and highly specialised intervention worldwide, not only at the Livorno HUB but also in the Americas, the Middle East and the Asia Pacific region. Ferdinando Pilli, General Manager at Lusben since September 2024, outlined the changes being implemented in the Lusben division and the new services and infrastructure following completion of the €12 million investment package in the three-year plan, and spoke about future projects at the Livorno site to support captains and crews. “The division’s recent results confirm that investments in infrastructure and personnel in the last few years are bearing fruit,” said Lusben GM Ferdinando Pilli. “We’re still investing to make stays more enjoyable for captains and crews and we’re sure that all this, along with the quality of our work, will enable Lusben to consolidate its role as the refit Hub for the entire Mediterranean.” Thanks to its consolidated expertise and in-depth knowledge of Benetti products – the two companies are in the same Group – Lusben is also capable of providing yacht maintenance beyond the warranty period. As announced by Lusben Sales Manager Gianni Paladino, the company will be managing Benetti’s after-sales service from 2025 on, offering full, integrated support in terms of yacht maintenance, assistance and refits. And Head of After-Sales Service Andrea Moschese added that the new hub will also guarantee service after the warranty period, with a five-year maintenance contract covering preventive and corrective maintenance, refitting services and integrated support for spare parts supply, as well as technical documentation and consulting. Thanks to Lusben’s made-to-measure approach and advanced facilities, customers will be able to enjoy highly specialised assistance globally. In the second part of the day, the participants engaged in some team building activities in the Medina quarter of Marrakech, providing an opportunity for interaction and creating genuine connections based on a sharing of values. Because synergy and relationships are the true heart of Yachtmaster. Benetti extends thanks to the following partners and sponsors whose contribution is vital to the production and success of the event: GIGA partners: AWLGRIP, Viraver, Volvo Penta. MEGA partners: Asea nautica, Asea power, Boero, CMC Marine, Crew Pro, DYT YACHT TRANPORT, Jotun, Raymarine, Rina, Saim Marine, mtu, Telemar. CLASS partners: CGT, Fincantieri, Fraser Yacht, Memetti yachting, Naiad/samos, Sail ADV, SAMOS, Sea Ai, Videoworks, VSS, ZF Group. The Benetti Yachtmaster will also be held in Miami on April 2nd and 3rd, given the event’s huge success on the other side of the Atlantic too.

GX Superyachts builds strongly on the expertise of their sister company Greenline Yachts, which leads the market for hybrid yachts up to 58ft.  “Since we launched GX Superyachts in Monaco last year, we have received lots of attention and potential sales leads,” said founder and owner, Vladimir Zinchenko. “We were hoping to make a big splash, but the response has been overwhelming. That is why we have taken the important step of joining with a big brokerage house that shares our values and has a particular focus on the American market.”

The company’s mission is to preserve and pass on the value and essence of these unique products, a desire that vintage boat owners share with classic car enthusiasts and collectors. This philosophy is the perfect fit for Time On Show, the benchmark event dedicated to collector and vintage watches and featured at Rétromobile in collaboration with main partner Riva.

Viking VIP Treatment

Mother Nature shone upon the Viking and Valhalla VIP Boat Show. After weeks of cold, gray weather the warm sun illuminated the Viking Yacht Service Center in Riviera Beach, Florida. Boating enthusiasts had two perfect days to peruse and sea trial dozens of boats. We also featured a record number of partners housed in our Vendor Village offering everything from insurance to electronics to custom boat gear (rods, shirts, cutting boards, gunwale covers – you name it!).  Even before the VIP Boat Show kicked off the event, Viking celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Valhalla Yacht Sales showroom and service center. “We’re extremely excited,” said Viking Yacht Company President and CEO Pat Healey. “We never stop investing in the future, and this $15 million project serves as the latest example of our commitment to offering our owners the best boats, service and customer care. We’re also very proud to bring this valuable marine business development to Palm Beach County.”

Viking Takes InTheBite Gulf Coast Division Captain of the Year

Big fish stories have defined captain Chase Lake’s sportfishing journey, marking both highs and lows. Back in 2016, Chase endured what seemed like a huge disappointment. He was fishing with friends on the Viking 54 Rise Up during the Orange Beach Billfish Classic. A 771-pound blue marlin was hooked in the tournament’s final minutes but missed the weigh-in by less than two minutes.  But, the battle with the blue caught the attention of Allen Krake, owner of the Viking 72 Team Supreme. Impressed by Chase’s skills, Allen hired him shortly after. “What felt like one of the most tragic things at the time turned out to be one of the best things that’s ever happened to me,” Chase says.  Fast forward to 2024, and Chase, alongside Team Supreme, achieved an extraordinary feat, winning the Gulf Coast Triple Crown Championship for the second year in a row and cinching InTheBite’s Furuno Gulf Coast Division Captain of the Year title.  With anglers Allen Krake, his wife Lisa, sons Allen Jr. and Alex, and Lennie Stephens, plus mates Seth Brennan and Hunter Smith, Team Supreme aims to make history by claiming a third consecutive Gulf Coast Triple Crown in 2025.  “I’ve found a new fishing technique where we catch a lot of tag-and-release fish,” Chase says. “Plus, the Viking is super-fast. Let’s just say we have a little old-school and new-school magic going for us.”

Viking at Masters Angling Tournament

Created over six decades ago by John Rybovich and his fellow anglers, the Masters Angling Tournament provides an opportunity to truly display fishing skill. “One thing is certain,” says long-time Masters angler Sam Peters, “you either love this format or you think we are crazy!” Two anglers per boat fish 7.5 hours a day and when the anglers set the hook, the boat goes dead in the water. Anglers are scored on fight time and dead baiting a marlin earns double points.  Sixteen boats fished this year. Captain Tony Carrizosa, fishing the Viking 64 Team Galati, captured the Top Boat Overall and High Boat Captain with 46 releases over three days. Second Place boat honors went to Pura Vida, a Viking 68, and captain Rudy Arguedas with 44 releases. Shon Craig, owner of the Viking 64 Amarula Son, won the Pete Boinis Award for the Fastest Fish – nine seconds!

Viking at Buccaneer Cup Sailfish Tournament

The Buccaneer Cup Sailfish Tournament saw an incredible three days of fishing action with a record-breaking 808 sailfish releases. And Vikings rose to the top of the leaderboard. Fish On, a Viking 48, got the party started with the first fish of the tournament. Top Dead Bait Release Boat went to Charles Brogdon’s Viking 50 Two Daze Off. Captain Scott Fawcett put the team on 23 sailfish for the honors. Second Place Dead Bait was the Viking 55 Kateric with 19 releases. William Wrede’s Viking 62 Lovin Life weighed the 2nd Heaviest Meatfish with a 21.4-pound cobia. Over $380,000 was paid out to winners and $75,000 was raised for The Billfish Foundation and Viking's Fisheries Conservation Trust.

Viking at Silverfish Sailfish Derby

Cold conditions equalled a hot bite at the 88th annual Silver Sailfish Derby. Hosted by the West Palm Beach Fishing Club, temps dropped into the 40s, and the 50-boat fleet battled five-to-seven-foot seas. Fish On, a Viking 48, buckled down and released 14 sailfish during the two days of fishing. This earned them Top Boat, and Andrew Dotterweich took Top Captain. Right on their heels was the Viking 68 Twin Reels. Captain Darrin Isaacs put the team on 12 sails for a 2nd Place Overall finish.

Viking at 2025 Signature Triple Crown at Los Suenos

Team Galati, a Viking 64, came out swinging at the 2025 Signature Triple Crown in Los Suenos, Costa Rica. Captain Tony Carrizosa put the team on 22 sailfish on Day One and kept the momentum rolling. The team of Carmine Galati Sr., Pat Healey, Drew McDowell, Eric McDowell and Thomas “Smalls” Garmany ended Leg I with one marlin and 86 sails to cement a 2nd Place finish. Fish Tank, the Jessen's Viking 64, released 76 sails and two marlin to secure 4th place. Leg II begins February 26 and Leg III starts on March 26. Stay tuned!

Codecasa Celebrates 200th Anniversary

With the beginning of the year 2025, Codecasa Shipyards are celebrating their 200 years of activity, always and only managed by the Codecasa Family. This is an important goal, to be very proud of.  Codecasa Shipyards were founded in 1825 by the shipwright Giovanni Battista Codecasa in the town of Viareggio, the centuries-old cradle of the Italian shipbuilding. In 1902 Giovanni Battista Codecasa, named Tistino, succeeded, managing the Yard over the hard times of the Second World War and showing a remarkable showing a remarkable capacity for adaptation which will prove to be a winning factor for the company. Tistino was then succeeded by his sons, Ugo and Sandro, who operated in the Viareggio of the 60’s, the temple of the Italian seafaring at that time. At the beginning, the Company focused on the building of sail boats, reaching a production of over 50 ships in addition to fishing boats, pontoons, light boats and vessels of all types in the year 1946.  When Ugo passed away in 1973, the baton passed onto his son, Fulvio Codecasa, the key actor in the Yard life. Fulvio adopted a winning strategy, pushed by a desire of diversification, which brought Codecasa to the centre of the international scene, combining the production of work boats with that of luxury motoryachts.  In 1985 Fulvio’s daughter, Fulvia, joined her father and subsequently also her younger sister, Elena. At a later stage, their husbands, Ennio Buonomo and Fabio Lofrese, also entered in the management of the Company, continuing the family tradition steadily. During the 2000s, this well-planned route was followed by Fulvia and Ennio’s sons, Matteo and Niccolò, and recently by their daughter Chiara.  From 1973 until the end of the 90’s, the Yard has been launching Yachts very different from each other. Just to mention some of them, the motoryachts Entrepreneur and Casabella, cruising in the American waters. In 1975, the 27 meters Yacht Fair Play, which introduced Codecasa’s own style. Then, it was the turn of the 62 meters Luisella, the largest Yacht Codecasa has built so far and the first one intended for the charter use. In 1994 the Blue Velvet followed and in 1996 Charly Coppers which opened the series of the 48/51 meters and many other successful projects.  Simultaneously with the building innovation, Codecasa Shipyards also expanded in the Viareggio area: in addition to the Ugo Codecasa Shipyard founded in 1977, in 1982 also the CodecasaDue Shipyard was opened, established on the old site of the Yard in the Darsena Toscana. Then, in 1987, the Codecasa Tre Shipyard, located in the Nuova Darsena, was added. Starting from 2011, a new premise located in the Navicelli area in Pisa was integrated, a large building made of four sheds, more suitable for the building of large vessels.  Early in the 2000’s, Codecasa revealed a new surprise, entering the field of the aluminium fast Yachts of large size, having what it took for a sure shot. The first model, launched in 2004, was built for an experienced Yacht Owner, Fulvio Codecasa himself. That Yacht was named after his beautiful wife, Maria Carla.  The Owners of the Yachts that Codecasa has built over the years are the Yard best ambassadors: in Italy, there is Giorgio Armani, who waived his Mariù built in 2003 to replace her with the Main in 2008; Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce with their first Regina d’Italia built in 2006 and followed by another Regina d’Italia built in 2019. The Cavaliere Leonardo del Vecchio used to cruise on his second Codecasa Yacht named Moneikos; the Magari owned by Mr Paolo Bulgari built in 2011 and the Dragoluna of Piersilvio Berlusconi built in 2019. The Clients’ portfolio in the world is long and such trust is not fortuitous but it is the result of the Yard excellence and reliability.  Carrying on, generation by generation, this amazing story in the nautical field involves many responsibilities on one hand, and on the other hand it allows to recall and taste the past moments as a result of suitable and balanced choices, a lot of courage and strong determination.  Since a long time, Fulvio has been following a well-defined line, which made him become one of the key actors in the luxury pleasure Yacht field and build an independent family system, overlooking the Harbour of Viareggio like a lighthouse which controls and illuminates the town.  Codecasa is not a traditional Shipyard, it benefits of an unparalleled building quality and product recognizability, all its work is centred on the loyalty: loyalty from its clients, who have chosen and go on choosing this brand; loyalty established with its co-operators and loyalty toward its style – generally speaking, a Codecasa Yacht follows the lines of the previous ones, improving its nuances. This is why the word evolution is preferred to the word revolution.  These 200 years of activity are also the result of many people’s work and passion. Today Codecasa Shipyards are in all respects a large family that proudly and affectionately carries forward the value traced and impressed by their founders.

Fairline Falls in Administration Just Two Months After Sale

Fairline Yachts has entered administration, just two months after its acquisition by Arrowbolt Propulsion Systems Limited. The Northamptonshire-based shipyard, which employs approximately 250 staff, is now under the control of Alvarez and Marsal, following an insolvency process triggered by its primary lender, DF Capital.  The company’s administrators confirmed that Fairline Yachts continues to trade and no redundancies have been made. Michael Magnay, joint administrator, told Sky News: “We are thankful for the support and understanding of staff and there are no redundancies at this time. We are actively pursuing a sale of the business and are confident of a substantial amount of interest given the recognised brand and strong heritage.”  The administrators are now seeking potential buyers to secure the future of the business, which is renowned for its range of yachts measuring between 10 and 20 metres.  Fairline Yachts was recently sold to Arrowbolt Propulsion Systems Limited on 4 December 2024. According to Companies House records, Arrowbolt acquired 75 percent or more of the company’s shares and voting rights, gaining control of the ability to appoint or remove directors.

Ferretti Custom Line Salutes 2024 With Two New Launches

Custom Line ends 2024 with two new launches, taking the total to 18 yachts entering the water at the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in Ancona over the last 12 months.  It was an important year full of significant achievements, the standouts being the debuts of Custom Line 50 – the first all-aluminium 50-metre displacement superyacht and the new Custom Line flagship, marking the brand’s entry into the metal yachts segment under 500 GT – and Custom Line Navetta 38, the new made-to-measure displacement yacht with a gross tonnage of 299 GT. The first two examples of the two models were launched in January and November respectively.  With eleven launches in the Navetta line, six in the planning line and the first launch in the aluminium superyacht line, the shipyard confirms its skill at interpreting the vision of diverse owners, combining design and construction quality, personalisation, craftsmanship, reliability, strong design, recognisability and technological innovation.

Frauscher x Porsche Wins Top Class Award

The 850 Fantom Air electric sports boat with propulsion technology from the Porsche Macan Turbo continues to cause a stir – not only on the water, but also at the industry's top-class award ceremonies. The result of the collaboration between two innovative traditional companies – the hull and deck come from the Austrian Frauscher shipyard, the drive and some design elements from sports car manufacturer Porsche – is highly praised by experts and trade journalists.  At the world's largest boat and water sports trade fair, the "boot Düsseldorf 2025", the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air was named "Powerboat of the Year" in the "Electric" category as part of the glamorous Flagship Night. "Frauscher and Porsche combined results in engineering at the highest level," was the jury's opinion. Michael Frauscher, member of the management board of the Frauscher shipyard, accepted the award together with Jörg Kerner, Vice President Product Line Macan. "The eFantom has the potential to revolutionize the boating world," Kerner said. "Electromobility is also becoming increasingly important on the water. Together with Frauscher, we have succeeded in setting standards in this segment with typical Porsche E-Performance. We are very pleased that this has been rewarded with two top-class prizes."  Back in November 2024, the "Best of Boats Award" in the "Best Electric" category – also one of the most prestigious awards for powerboats in Europe – went to the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air at the "Boot & Fun" in Berlin. The jury of the "Best of Boats Award", consisting of 15 experienced boat journalists from Europe and the USA, argued: "The leading sports car manufacturer Porsche and the Austrian Frauscher shipyard with its tradition in electric boat building combine the best of both worlds: the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air is the first electric boat to combine the performance of a fast, elegant day cruiser with a modern electric drive."  The Austrian-German cooperation has already produced a second product: At "boot Düsseldorf 2025", the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom celebrated its world premiere as a classic runabout with a closed foredeck and cabin – of course also with the drive architecture from the Macan Turbo.

ISA Yachts Exclusive North and South American Dealership

Denison has become exclusive dealers of ISA Yachts a brand of Palumbo Superyachts new Viper line of superyachts in North America.  “This compliments our North & South American agreement representing EXTRA Yachts which is also owned by the Palumbo Superyachts,” said Alex Clarke, broker at Denison Yachting. “I feel the expanding relationship between Denison and Palumbo, more specifically ISA & EXTRA yachts, gives us a strategic advantage focusing on the 24-40-meter sport yacht segment of the market. We are now working with two industry leading brands that are investing not just in gaining strength in this segment of the market, but also investing into the development of ground breaking designs focused on lifestyle and performance.”  ISA Yachts’ new Viper line takes in the shipyard’s over 20 years of experience in the production of GRP sports boats, which made the brand famous all worldwide for, and perfects it through new stylistic elements, excellent performance and flexible solutions to optimize the interior spaces. A new concept that once again accentuates the innate identity of ISA models by creating even sleeker and more defined lines though maintaining a fresh and contemporary style.

Maritimo Racing Rolex Sydney Hobart Race 2024 Review

For 2024, the world-famous Boxing Day race will be remembered for how brutal it was on the equipment. Winds reaching 40 knots were just part of the equation. It was the confluence of the strong East Australia Current, meeting an Easterly bound swell line built up through Bass Strait, along with waves from the new, powerful Sou’west wind that replaced the more than fresh Nor’easter before it, that created a turbulent time.  Maritimo pays its deepest respects to the two competing sailors who so tragically lost their lives during this event. In separate incidents and at different times on two yachts, Roy Quaden on board Flying Fish Arctos, and Nick Smith from Bowline passed away. Condolences go to their families and friends.  The first night at sea, and indeed the whole race was described by many a sailor who had already completed numerous Hobarts before, as simply, ‘The worst I have ever been in.’  Maritimo had two vessels entered. The new to Bill Barry-Cotter Maritimo 100, the maximum length allowed to compete in the race, and rather than an outright race machine like her similar-sized supermaxis, Maritimo 100 is equipped in a very similar manner to the motor yachts that Maritimo produces. The second was the 120-year-old Maritimo Katwinchar that had entered the Double-Handed Division, with Michael Spies and Peter Vaiciurgis as co-Skippers.  After the race, Maritimo 100’s Skipper, Peter Jones, who has now completed 27 races, spoke about the 628 nautical mile journey. “We brought the boat down in mostly one piece, and all the crew are safe and well, too. It couldn’t have gone much better. We saw a peak wind of 42 knots and 3 to 4.5 metre seas, which were very confused at the Green Cape area. We got through the worst of it in about four to five hours.”  “We had a small tear in the mainsail on day one, so this restricted how much mainsail we could use for the rest of the race. It is roller-reefed onto a mandrel inside the Park Avenue boom, and about two metres up the leech (trailing edge) was the tear, so we were able to reef down just past it, but then only use that amount of mainsail for the rest of the trip.”  “Apart from that, the boat performed brilliantly, and the crew were excellent, as well. Especially our chef, Jennifer Ng.” By way of highlighting that, Jones quickly mentioned, “On the 28th we had butterflied roast lamb, including roast potatoes, fresh peas, carrots, pumpkin, and of course, gravy. On the morning before that, we had a full English breakfast of sausages, bacon, baked beans, and eggs. There was also a homemade lasagna in amongst it all. Legend status, I tell you.”  The yacht is fitted with a massive 165% overlapping Genoa for use when off the breeze, along with a 100% jib (referring to available sail area) for use on the breeze, and a spinnaker that did not get hoisted this trip due to the conditions and angles of sailing. So, the vessel did a lot of what is called two-sailing, and also often deployed a staysail inside the large Genoa when reaching, which is across the breeze. This meant that safety and comfort remained the key determinants of the passage.  “We’ll have more family and friends on board for that, along with a few loyal, and I dare say lucky, Maritimo Motor Yacht customers. What an experience it will be for all.”  Ross Willaton, a long-term Maritimo Team member, also went South for the race. The World Champion Offshore Powerboat legend appears to have found a new passion in sailing, Jones informed us. “He’s almost fully converted now. He was above and beyond, and he did a magnificent job.”  At the other end of the scale, Maritimo Katwinchar is only 10m long and 2.5m wide. For most of the race, the vessel was atop the standings in Division Five, led the Double-Handed Division for a while, and was a feature in the higher parts of the overall standings for a good spell, as well.  Co-Skipper of Maritimo Katwinchar, Michael Spies, has completed 44 Hobarts to date. Alas, Hobart was not the final outcome in 2024 for them, but rather Batemans Bay on the NSW South coast. “It was pretty sporty out there. We played a pretty good hand, we were safe, and were still pushing on hard, but not ridiculously so. Just the one notch off being on the edge, with a little bit of contingency there should we need it. We never wiped out once that whole race. We were pretty strong tactically, teaming up, and looking after the boat. It was pretty devastating to then have to retire, but it was the only prudent thing to do.”  Maritimo Katwinchar was taking on water from the cockpit as a result of all of the waves over the deck, and whilst the bilge pump was taking care of it, this was only when the vessel was upright, which was not much of the time in conditions like that. As it would have been another three days at sea for Spies and Vaiciurgis, the only sensible choice was to head for port. “You have got to know when to start racing, then you also have to know when to stop racing, and start surviving,” Spies offered in closing.

Nautor Swan and American Magic Announce Joint Venture

American Magic, the US challenger for the 36th and 37th America’s Cup, and Nautor Swan, a global leader in yacht design and manufacturing, on Sunday, 19th January, announced their intention to create a strategic partnership aimed at energizing sailing in America and growing the marine industry. The joint venture will initially focus on developing the ClubSwan 28 regatta series, a new competitive platform for sailors and yacht owners in the United States.  In addition, the collaboration will combine American Magic’s cutting-edge engineering and boat-building expertise with Nautor Swan’s innovative yacht design and manufacturing capabilities. Together, they aim to create a unique opportunity for yacht owners and competitive sailors while driving growth and innovation within the broader US sailing and marine industry.  "This joint venture marks a significant step in American Magic’s mission to lead sailing in the United States into a new era of innovation and competition," said Terry Hutchinson, President of Sailing Operations at American Magic. "By combining Nautor Swan’s iconic yacht design with our advanced engineering and boat-building capabilities, we are poised to transform the competitive sailing landscape in America, providing a high-performance platform racing and operations platform for sailors, boat owners, and the broader marine industry."  The joint venture will start with the ClubSwan 28 project, which includes the creation of a new regatta series and the development of a fleet of ClubSwan 28 boats. These boats will debut in a series of regattas planned for late 2025, to be held in Pensacola and across the East Coast. The venture’s immediate goal is to establish a competitive platform that expands the presence of Nautor Swan yachts in the US while supporting American Magic’s ongoing mission to grow the sport and marine industry in the region.  "This is a natural evolution for both Nautor Swan and American Magic," said Giovanni Pomati, CEO of Nautor Swan. "I am particularly pleased with the agreement we’ve reached with American Magic, a team full of talent in every sector. We needed a partner who shares our vision and values, and reenergizing sailing in America is our challenge, both commercially and technologically."  Tyson Lamond, Chief Operations Officer at American Magic, added, "The introduction of shared services for the ClubSwan 28 fleet represents a shift in how regattas can be operated. Teams no longer need to travel with full support crews, as we’re providing the operational backbone to ensure yachts are race-ready. This is the first step in a broader vision to streamline competition, build infrastructure for the future, and showcase the capabilities of our Pensacola High-Performance Sailing Center."  Federico Michetti, Head of Sport Activities at Nautor Swan, says: "In the United States, I have many sailing friends, and I’ve had the privilege of participating in the most iconic events. It’s a long history that has contributed significantly to the growth of techniques and sailors' skills. Terry and his team are great champions and I can confidently say that this project has been in the works for a long time, and I’m sure it will bring new energy to the world of sailing."  In addition to the ClubSwan 28 project, the joint venture will work to promote the sales and servicing of Nautor Swan in the US. Furthermore, the venture will explore other activities, including building Nautor Swan and Bluegame boats at the American Magic facility. This collaboration will elevate the US sailing scene by introducing world-class boats and regattas while cementing both companies’ leadership in marine innovation, competitive performance, and industry growth.

Riva Wins at Motor Boat Awards 2025

Riva 82' Diva is in the spotlight after winning “Best Custom Yacht of the Year” prize at the prestigious Motor Boat Awards, organised by Motor Boat & Yachting during BOOT Düsseldorf. This major prize confirms the success of the latest model in Riva’s flybridge range, a yacht as beautiful as she is innovative, and the new concept of interior and exterior spaces she embodies.  Like all recent Riva yachts, Riva 82’ Diva is penned by Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta, founders of Officina Italiana Design, working in partnership with the Strategic Product Committee led by Piero Ferrari and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department.  With a length overall of 25.29 metres and a maximum beam of 6.08 metres, 82’ Diva offers a new take on the interiors, which feature new design solutions that combine function, comfort and style, such as the stunning salon, where the living and dining areas are separated optically by a play of different heights that bestows intimacy without ever actually dividing the two settings, and the large windows offering an unbroken view of the horizon.  Praised by the jury as a “beautifully designed and masterfully crafted” yacht, Riva 82’ Diva is a genuine masterpiece of style, offering unforgettable moments at sea thanks not least to the exclusive and elegant convivial spaces. The features the jury appreciated most include the unprecedented size of the outdoor areas, designed to offer guests exclusive contact with the water and let them rediscover the pleasure in every moment on board. The spacious lounge area forward, the generous and innovative stern beach club – featuring two large wings that swing down to create lateral terraces, increasing the width of the area by over 3 metres – and the magnificent 40-square-metre flybridge, one of the most spacious in the category, ensure a cruising experience characterised by total comfort, conviviality and relaxation.  With this award, Riva 82’ Diva confirms that the model sets a benchmark for flybridge yachts in this category, achieving the perfect balance between function, comfort and design.

At Mar-a-Lago, on the other hand, enthusiasts and collectors were able to admire scale models of the yachts that have written the history of the Sarnico-based brand.  During the Concour d’Elegance prize-giving ceremony, there was also a wonderful tribute to Riva Classiche, the division created by the brand to preserve the heritage and know-how embodied in classic boats. The winner of the Elegance Award received a prestigious Aquarama Steering Wheel, emblem of the iconic boat that has come to symbolise the brand and the incomparable Italian style shared by Riva and the Prancing Horse.

Riviera Floats Australia's Exports

A fleet of Queensland-built luxury motor yachts valued at more than $45 million have been driven on to a semi-submersible ship in the Port of Brisbane, ahead of their 8000 nautical mile voyage to Mexico and the east coast of the United States, that will commence on Saturday.  A total of 10 Riviera motor yachts will utilise the unique DYT Yacht Transport float-on/float off method rather than being craned in the traditional manner on to a container ship to be positioned either under deck or on deck amongst containers.  Four of the motor yachts will be floated off the ship in Ensenada in Mexico where they will be driven north to their final destinations in California. The remaining six yachts will be offloaded in Port Everglades, the cruise port in Fort Lauderdale in Florida.  The semi-submersible ship makes the equivalent of four trips around the world, annually, or about 80,850 nautical miles, stopping at 22 ports.  Australia exported ships, boats and floating structures in 2023 valued at $416 million, with the U.S. accounting for 32% of that, or $137 million.

Indeed, in this international setting, the new Pirelli X430 of the Pirelli Tenders X line, characterised by Christian Grande’s unmistakable stylistic identity and a wide range of customisable accessories, was presented. Consisting of soft and accommodating shapes, the new Pirelli X430 has a very spacious bow, great roominess with seating for up to seven guests, and an innovative removable steering wheel solution to reduce the height and easily position it in yacht and superyacht garages.  The new products over the past 12 months have been extremely well received. Rebel leads the growth, generating 39% of total sales, followed by the new Strider 13, a natural successor to one of the brand’s best sellers and, finally, with the Pirelli speedboats which now includes the new P-Zero™ Edition, expanding the product range.  In the coming months, the brand that symbolises Italian excellence in the Maxi Rib sector will announce other important developments, with the presentation of new projects, new partnerships in hitherto unexplored geographical areas and the inauguration of new production facilities.

Silent Yachts Building the Future After Exceptional 2024

Innovative catamaran builder Silent Yachts is looking forward to an exceptionally busy new year, building on the successes of 2024. After delivering no fewer than six of its solar electric 62-footers in the last 12 months, it will deliver 50% more in 2025, plus the stunning new SY80 flagship. It has the yard in Fano, Italy, working at full capacity.  Seven new yachts are in advanced stages of fit-out and on track for delivery in just the first six months of the year, demonstrating how the new management has successfully turned the company around. The orders come from all around the globe, confirming Silent Yachts’ appeal in an age of eco-consciousness.  “With so much activity at the shipyard this year, it is quite easy to overlook the fact that we have completely reorganised the business from the ground up,” said Silent Yachts CEO Fabrizio Iarrera. “Under new management since March 2024, our Fano shipyard has transitioned from traditional linear boat construction to a modular system. It means that yacht modules are built simultaneously and assembled during the final phase, significantly speeding up the production process and product quality. This has led us to achieve a production rate of one yacht per month.

Sunseeker Announce Return of Temporary Laid-Off Staff

Sunseeker, the British luxury yacht maker, cited operational challenges as the cause of production delays and temporary layoffs in late December 2024. The company assured the industry that there were no permanent job losses and thanked staff for their loyalty and patience.  To mitigate the impact on affected employees, Sunseeker has ensured that each individual receives 50% of their normal basic hourly rate during the layoff period. Additionally, employees were given the option to take this time as paid holiday.  The company is actively communicating with those affected to explain the circumstances and provide support. Sunseeker reiterated the value it places on its workforce, stating: "We reiterate how important all our staff, their knowledge, skills, and craftsmanship are to us. We appreciate their loyalty and patience at this time."  Sunseeker announced temporary staff layoffs amid industry challenges at the end of 2024, reflecting broader pressures faced by luxury yacht manufacturers. However, the company is diligently working to resolve the operational issues that caused the production delays and is optimistic about resuming full operations with the return of the affected staff by late January.  Looking ahead, Sunseeker is poised to make a strong impact at Boot Düsseldorf in January 2025 with the highly anticipated launch of the Manhattan 68. Alongside these premieres, Sunseeker will exhibit their award-winning Ocean 156 and other popular models, such as the 76 Yacht and the Manhattan 55. These models continue to spotlight Sunseeker's adherence to precision engineering and efficient production to meet and exceed client expectations.  Additional new models are also under development as part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its product range and meet growing client demand.  As the situation develops, Sunseeker remains focused on supporting its employees and ensuring the long-term viability of its operations, reinforcing its position as a leader in the luxury yacht industry.

Viking 29th Annual VIP Show Kicks Off

The Viking Marine Group kicked off the 29th annual VIP Boat Show on Friday 31st January with an industry-leading lineup of Viking sportfishing yachts and Valhalla Boatworks center consoles. The lineup ranges from 28 to 90 feet, with the new Viking 74 and 82 leading the charge, with the new Valhalla 28 Bay and 29 Hybrid on display, ground-breaking models in their respective genres.  Additionally, the VIP is renowned for its Vendor Village featuring displays from 50 preferred business partners. The VIP is truly unique, giving owners and boating enthusiasts the chance to experience the boats in a relaxed setting, with time to engage with Viking and Valhalla staff and our dealers. The VIP, held at the Viking Yacht Service Center in Riviera Beach, Florida, runs through tomorrow.  Two days prior to the VIP, the Viking Marine Group made big news by holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the Valhalla Yacht Sales Showroom and Service Center. “We never stop investing in the future, and this $15 million project serves as the latest example of our commitment to offering our owners the best boats, service and customer care,” said Viking President and CEO Pat Healey. "This is an incredible accomplishment."  This new facility, combined with the adjacent Viking Yacht Service Center, creates one of the largest outboard boat sales and service centres in the country. Spanning two acres, the two-story, 30,000-square-foot complex includes two showrooms, one indoor and another indoor/outdoor, for displaying Valhalla Boatworks, Contender and Sportsman boats.  More than 250 people attended the event, including Viking and Valhalla staff, dealers, and representatives from Sportsman and Contender boats. Several elected officials were present, including Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick and Riviera Beach Mayor Ronnie Felder. The final touches on the new building and grounds are expected to be completed in the next few weeks, with the facility anticipated to open for business by the end of February.  The week began with a well-attended Media Day, where about twenty journalists representing upwards of fifteen different publications and electronic media outlets came to Riviera Beach to sea trial the four new models, the Viking 74 and 82, and the V-28 Bay and V-29 Hybrid.  Content creators had access to the best boats in the industry.  The new V-55 demo was also in high demand, running all day for media members eager to tell the story.

Viking Success as Speed Restriction is Withdrawn

The federal government has withdrawn its proposed 10-knot vessel speed rule for boats 35 feet and larger along the East Coast. The announcement was published today in the Federal Register. "This is great news for the marine and fishing industries," said Viking Yacht Company President and CEO Pat Healey. "We all worked together to stop this government overreach and safeguard our rights to the ocean. This will not alter our goal to protect boaters and the whales through technology.” Viking has fought the proposal since August of 2022 while facilitating solutions through marine electronics, modelling, outreach and advanced technologies to reduce vessel strike risk. Above: Pat kicks off a special press conference and industry briefing about the proposal at the 2022 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The rule would have had a devastating economic impact on the industry. The highly flawed rule – proposed without engagement with the marine industry – would have been the most consequential maritime regulation ever imposed on the recreational boating and fishing community. It called for broadening the current 10-knot (11.5-mph) restriction to boats 35 feet and larger (down from 65 feet); expanding slows zones to virtually the entire coastline as far out as 90 miles; and extending a go-slow mandate for up to seven months of the year. Click here for map. “We still have work to do with the speed restriction that’s in place now,” added Pat. “We will continue to push the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to have the current 10-knot limit for boats 65 feet (LOA) and larger amended so that technology-based solutions can replace these speed limits, which have been in place since 2008 but not enforced until 2022." “We don’t see this as a completely resolved issue,” said John DePersenaire, Viking’s Director of Government Affairs and Sustainability. “We will keep advancing the technology and partnering with NOAA on outreach and education.”

Viking Supporting The Skillie Project

Viking is proud to support The Billfish Foundation’s largest satellite tagging initiative for white marlin. The Skillie Project aims to better understand a unique population of the powerful pelagic fish found off Nantucket, Massachusetts, known locally as “Skillies.”  Captains John Galvin and Rob Goodwin played a crucial role in this effort, piloting two Viking 72s – El Diablo and Scup Slayer, respectively. Skillies are known for their larger-than-average size and are often caught on spinning tackle and live bait in shallower depths than is typically found.  The team’s deployment of five tags was a significant achievement. “Finding Skillies in the unpredictable waters of Nantucket Shoals is no easy task, let alone catching one,” says captain John.  “TBF and Viking look forward to continuing the project this summer,” says Peter Chaibongsai, TBT Director of Conservation Programs. “We’re eager to see what data comes from the original tags deployed last year in the coming months.”

Trophy Wife also weighed the Heaviest Dolphin. The Heaviest Wahoo went to the Viking 62 Remix and Top Angler was on the Viking 72 Team Harvey.

Zeelander Yachts announces the appointment of Floris Koopmans as its new business development manager.  In this role, Floris Koopmans will focus on strengthening commercial activities globally, supporting key stakeholders such as yacht owners and brokers, ensuring every interaction reflects the brand’s commitment to quality, and overseeing marketing initiatives. Koopmans has been working at Zeelander Yachts since 2017 in various positions: marketing, brand management, and sales.  This appointment reflects Zeelander Yachts’ commitment to delivering an exceptional experience to its clients.  “Zeelander forges objects of desire. In my new role, I want to gain a better understanding of the owners’ needs to ensure every yacht and experience is perfectly tailored to that desire,” said Floris Koopmans.  By joining the leadership team, Floris Koopmans will work alongside his father, Sietse Koopmans, the founder and chairman of Zeelander Yachts, to carry forward the family legacy.  “When I started Zeelander, I aimed to create a line of yachts that were simply the best that money can buy”, said Sietse Koopmans. “Floris understands that vision, and having grown up immersed in the yachting world and Zeelander’s legacy, he brings perspective and capacity that adds great value.”  The Koopmans’ maritime roots run deep.
