An eleven meter sport cruiser with nine boaters aboard was in risk of sinking after ending powerless, and to the mercy of the rough sea state of the moment near Baia di Citara a Forano, to the West of Ischia Island on the early afternoon of Thursday 22 August 2024. According to a reconstruction of events the sport cruiser ended powerless and without control after both its engine stalled and was heading into the reefs of the area. At this stage the skipper called a MayDay via VHF, and was immediately assisted by the Guardia Costiera of Ischia, who sent a Search and Rescue Vessel and towed the cruiser for two nautical miles to the nearby harbour at marina of Forio.
The sport cruiser in this accident is a Tornado 38 as produced from 1985 and still produced today, to date in something like five hundred units. Inspired not little by the Magnum 35 and 38, the Tornado 38 had half a dozen versions in its never ending production, and is a classic favorite in Central and South Italy.
