2 Injured as Wellcraft Boat Explodes at Raritan Marina New Jersey

Two people were injured as a nine meter Wellcraft sport cruiser exploded at Raritan Marina, 1707 Rt. 35 in Laurence Harbor, Old Bridge, New Jersey at around 15:20 hours of Wednesday 28 August.  The explosion launched one of the boaters, a 57 year old man into the water, while a 47 year suffered blast injuries from shattered glass to his stomach and arms.  The older man suffered burns to his face and legs and was airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick for treatment, while the younger man was taken to Bayshore Medical Center for treatment.  Old Bridge Township Police responded first, and were followed by the Emergency Medical Services and Fire Department New York marine also coming later to help the local fire departments.  The Wellcraft boat eventually sank from the weight of the water as fire crews put out the flames.  The cause of the blaze is under investigation, though officials said it does not look suspicious.
The boat in this fire is a Wellcraft 3200 St. Tropez as produced from 1985 to 1993.  The 3200 St. Tropez came out as a replacement to the 3100 Express, and was replaced by the 33 St. Tropez.
