Couple and Dog Escape Sea Ray Boat Fire in Rankin County

An eight meter Sea Ray sport cruiser with a couple and a dog onboard went ablaze near Rankin County, on the Madison side of the Reservoir, Mississippi on 13:13 hours of Wednesday seventeen April.  The couple and their dog were returning from a short cruise, when the boat backfired and then started smoking.  Seeing this they put their life jackets on and jumped into the water, and were then rescued by 3 On Your Side, with Reservoir Police, Reservoir Fire, and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks fighting the fire.  SeaTow also appeared on the spot and ultimately towed the boat near the Ranking boat landing slip to make fire extinguishing operations easier.  Ultimately the boat fire was extinguished with 26,000 litres of water.  The cause of the fire is reported to be a mechanical failure.
The Sea Ray in this fire is a second generation 290 Sundancer as produced from 1994 to 1997.  The second generation 290 Sundancer was a replacement and soft evolution of the first generation 290, replaced by a third generation 290 Sundancer in 1998, this recognizable by its forward looking radar arch.
