A twelve meter Sunseeker sport cruiser went ablaze in American Wharf, near Ocean Village, River Itchen, Southampton just after 06:30 morning time of Sunday seventh April. The fire was reported by a nearby boater who called 999, with the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service responding to the blaze with two fire fighting engines. The fire was complicated to control also because the boat was in the middle of the marina, and the ongoing strong winds of Storm Kathleen. Ultimately the blaze was controlled at 08:30, with the boat later being lifted. The cause of the fire is not officially reported, though on a Facebook Group one said it originated from a short circuit by the bow thruster.
The boat in this fire is a Sunseeker Thunderhawk 43 as designed by Don Shead and produced from 1988 to 1991. The Thunderhawk 43 was Sunseeker's Offshore series flaghship in its time, the fast boat range which debuted with the 34 XPS Portofino. The Thunderhawk 43 was a replacement to the 39 Cobra, and was replaced by the Sunseeker 45 Apache.
