New Model: Viking 44 SC

Creating a model within a platform has been a successful path for Viking in it's smaller sub fifteen meters models, and this is continued in the 44 series already available as Convertible and Open models, which share the same hull with uniquely different deck and interior arrangements. The popularity of the 44 has encouraged Viking to expand the range with striking profiles and special features that showcase the New Jersey builder ability to broaden the appeal of this versatile hull.  Using its five-axis profile machine Viking designed and built a plug and a female mold to create a rakish fiberglass deck house module, fully open to the cockpit while incorporating stylish convertible window lines and a roof overhang. Built into finely tool hardtop is a pair of easily accessed rod stowage compartments.  The Viking 44 Sport Coupe has a distinctive New England or Great Lakes flavor for cruising efficacy and includes a choice of a custom fiberglass mast for the radar and other antennas, or a customized radar arch. In the eleven squared meter cockpit, the 44 SC sports the familiar starboard mezzanine seating arrangement of the popular 44 Open. Engine room access is provided with a convenient center line hatch that’s integral with the mezzanine seating. The SC has been engineered for the installation of a Seakeeper gyro stabilizer, which brings great stability to the sport cruiser to increase overall comfort.  The command deck includes our signature and tournament-proven center-line forward helm station on a raised platform for enhanced visibility. The console holds a bank of electronics displays, and has space for engine instrumentation and other accessories. Recessed compartments accommodate radios and additional equipment, plus accessory switches and controls.  A sliding companionway door and a large set of stairs with a starboard-side vertical handrail lead to the climate-controlled salon. With its five meter short beam, the widest of any boat in this class, the salon is a spacious social area for relaxing and entertaining. The starboard-side galley, which sits opposite an L-shaped lounge with a dinette table, includes teak cabinetry with meticulous joinery and fit and finish, expansive Corian counter tops, an electric range, separate under-counter refrigerator and freezer units and a microwave/convection oven. Other notable amenities include a stereo system with a flat screen HD TV.  In the forward master stateroom, the island queen bed with mattress has a lift-up top with gas pistons and maple-lined storage underneath. There's also a maple-lined hanging locker. Air conditioning, a 19-inch flat screen television and access to the head and shower round out the standard amenities.  The head has custom Amtico flooring, a one-piece molded Corian countertop with rounded edges and a sink with a satin nickel faucet. With its two-person berth, the aft guest stateroom can accommodate another couple and makes for a nice hideaway for the kids.  Twin Man 800hp diesels serve as the standard propulsion package. The engine-room, lazarette, forward bilge and anchor locker are all painted with Snow White Awlgrip for maximum visibility and easier maintenance. A Delta-T engine-room ventilation system, an oil exchange system and an Onan 13.5 kW E-QD Series generator are just some of the standard mechanical and electrical equipment.

New Model: Viking 38 Billfish

Viking is known for its consistent production of fresh designs throughout its entire size range, from its smallest sportfish cruiser boat to its largest super yacht. The 55 years company’s latest innovation, the 38 Billfish, fills a vast void in the sportfishing market with a winning combination of versatility, comfort and performance.  The 38 Billfish was designed and built with the same genetic makeup as her predecessor, the 37, as an owner operator sportfish cruiser.  The 38 Billfish offers simplicity and ease of maintenance, serving as a ready-to-go fishing machine equipped for inshore and offshore missions and as a cruising boat with reliable inboard diesel power.  The 38 Billfish’s cockpit, which measures ten square meters, is equipped with a laminated in-deck mounting plate for fighting chair, rocket launcher or table installations. Other big-boat features include in-deck insulated fish boxes port and starboard, a walk-through transom door and lift gate, a bait freezer with upper tray, a transom fish box and live well, rod holders, tackle storage and fresh and raw-water wash downs. Two-person, mezzanine-style seats flank the center-line walk-through, and there’s refrigerated drink storage, as well as ample general storage throughout.  The 38 Billfish’s command deck holds a salon-like living area that includes a port-side U-shaped dinette and a fiberglass hi-lo table. A comfortable lounge to starboard also serves as rod storage. You have the option of equipping your 38 Billfish with a second lower helm station on the starboard side, which provides immediate access to the cockpit.  Like her convertible brethren, the 38 Billfish’s flybridge is designed with a tournament-style center console walk-around helm. The 38 Billfish has Palm Beach-style controls and power-assist hydraulic steering. Seating includes a single Release Marine teak chair, a second helm chair is available as option, lounges are located to port and starboard, and a forward console seat. A three-sided Costa Clear enclosure provides weather protection and gin-clear visibility. Below deck, the new Viking 38 Billfish makes full use of its four plus meter beam to maximize comfort and utility. Hand-finished, high-gloss teak joinery and Amtico flooring complement an elegant climate-controlled living environment. The private head, which is conveniently located immediately to port of the companionway stairs, has a large walk-in shower with satin nickel fixtures, an attractive Corian-topped vanity with sink and storage and an upper medicine cabinet. The starboard-side L-shaped galley is fully appointed with a Corian counter-top, a two-burner electric stove, a microwave/convection oven, cabinet storage and under-counter drawer-style refrigeration with a built-in ice maker.  Rest up in the private forward stateroom, which is offered with island queen or crossover berth arrangements. There’s plenty of storage, with a pair of hanging lockers with drawers underneath as well as a port-side rod locker. The island queen layout also features a starboard-side upper storage cabinet.  As Viking continues to develop the Billfish series, the building methods and materials have gained efficiency, which adds even more value to these boats. A modified vinilester resin is used in the entire hull skin. End-grain balsa and closed-cell foam are used as coring materials in selected areas for optimized strength and stiffness while minimizing weight. The single integral fiberglass fuel tank, sealed to the hull with resin foam, is resin infused with balsa coring on all sides for stiffness. The hull-to-deck joint is mechanically fastened every three inches and fiber-glassed inside.  For ease of maintenance, each engine and other critical machinery is located beneath electrically-actuated hatches in the command deck area. The Billfish is designed and built with many of the same mechanical systems, components and technologies found on larger Vikings. Examples include the Delta-T engine room ventilation system and a fire suppression system that’s automatically or manually operated and tied into the main engine and generator ignitions.  Running gear includes Class “S” pitch tolerance propellers with dynamic balancing and bronze struts, sea-cocks and rudders. The engine-room, lazarette and forward bilges are painted with Snow White Awlgrip for increased visibility and ease of maintenance. A large center-line hatch gives you quick access to the engines, optional Seakeeper gyro and water maker, and fuel tank fittings. Powered with twin Cummins 550hp, estimated top speed is 35-plus knots with a cruise of 31 knots.

Viking New Web Site

Viking yachts from New Jersey East coast Atlantic side of the US, renowned for its high quality sportfish yachts and cruisers updates its website to a totally new design. While making more a name for itself in the past two decades Viking yachts history started back in 1964 when Bob and Bill Healey bought struggling New Jersey boat builder Petterson-Viking, who at the time was building a 37 foot wooden Sportfish cruiser. Seven years pass and the Healey brothers show the way forward by presenting the 33 Convertible, Viking's first fiberglass construction. A year later to this passes and it is 1972 when Viking presents the 40 Convertible which in a sixteen year production run with over six hundred units delivered sets the record as the company best seller. Following this Viking makes a constant growth up until 1990 and the dull recession period hitting the US economy and the coming of the famous 10% luxury tax on yachts. This time frame which lasted till 1993 saw many builders close the doors and Viking reducing its workforce from 1500 to eighty personnel. On facts the only reason Viking did not close up was thanks to the resolute of the Healey brothers who risked there own capital to keep going on, and where also among the key players for the removal of this taxation. While this storm was a difficult moment for the yachting industry, after it Viking gained the upper hand and became a leader in the semi production Sportfish boat segment. The signs of the growth experienced after the luxury tax three year period could be seen in the presentation of newer bigger models, plant expansion modernization in 2000, and the opening of a service facility in Riviera Beach Florida on 2002. Today Viking has the capacity to build one hundred cruisers and yachts a year, in a twenty seven model line up which start with the 37 Billfish to the 2018 introduced 93 Motor Yacht flagship. Viking currently offers four ranges: Open Bridge, Billfish, Motor Yachts, Sport Yacht, Open, and Enclosed Bridge and its latest model is the 68 Convertible. Viking new website takes you around with the following buttons: Models, Locate a Dealer, About Viking, and Viking Events. Project: Viking 68 Enclosed Bridge

Viking has been the pioneer in the design and development of the enclosed bridge for decades, and the latest example is its new 68 EB.  Captains and owners appreciate being comfortably out of the weather in the climate-controlled command center of the enclosed bridge boats. The wraparound windshield provides excellent visibility in all directions.  Viking enclosed bridges are large enough to hold a luxurious second salon. The enclosed bridge option is a big Viking trademark offered into its sportfishing boats from 62 to 92 feet and the three 75, 82 and 93 motor yachts.  The 68 Enclosed Bridge will follow the introduction of the Viking 68 Convertible, an open bridge model in a Shimmering Blue that will make its world premiere at the Miami Yacht Show on February.  The open and enclosed bridge models of the 68 Convertible share the same four-stateroom, four-head layout. Notice that the crew quarters are discretely located, accessed via a separate set of steps off the companionway.

New Model: Viking 82 Cockpit Motor Yacht

Viking capitalize on the success of the 75 Motor Yacht, and move forward by launching its second yacht model with the 82 Cockpit Motor Yacht.  The new Viking 82 Cockpit Motor Yacht provides a seamless transition from a luxurious super yacht to a blue-water fisherman creating the ideal platform for tournament fishing one day and heading on a three week vacation the next. This platform has been forgotten in recent years by the US boater but was popular in the eighties and nineties. The ten square meter cockpit is what marks the difference between the 82 model versus the 75, and this accessed from dual staircases on the after deck featuring an inviting arena for fishing, diving, paddle boarding and other fun water activities. Outfitted with a comely observation mezzanine topped with comfortable cushions, it is bound to be the choice gathering spot for family and guests to relax and enjoy their days on the water.  A three meter wide lounge molded into the mezzanine features a trove of useful amenities. Port and starboard stowage compartments serve as tackle and gear wells, and an engine-room access door is built into mezzanine backrest. A companionway leads into the crew quarters. Chill boxes for drinks and bait are located in the port and starboard staircases. A molded transom fish-box doubles as a convenient stowage bin for masks, fins and other dive gear. A walk-through transom door with a lift gate complements the molded teak planked swim platform. On the main deck, sophisticated styling merges with sociability. Forward and aft deck lounges capture the outdoor spirit. Inside the yacht the a climate controlled environment is standard finished in walnut wood, where a formal salon and casual dining areas, and a world class galley set a relaxing mood. Below, four appointed staterooms serve the owner and his guests, including an amazing full beam master suite.  Available with an open bridge or an enclosed bridge, hull one was launched with the first, each version demonstrates a path to different uses. The open bridge layout is all about the great outdoors with a center helm station forward flanked with casual seating areas. Project: Viking 44 Open

Viking’s reputation for building high performance express models maintains its enviable industry leadership with the announcement of the 44 Open project. By their design, express boats cater to the owner operator who enjoys his time aboard with family and friends and is content to fish hard on Saturdays and yet be equally accommodating when the family prefers to take to the water for a relaxing cruise. Whatever the game, the new Viking 44 scores points handily and is ready to rack up nautical miles while delivering fish ability, accommodations, handling and performance.  The Viking 44 Open is a fresh design with a resin infused composite hull and a matrix of fiberglass encapsulated stringers, vacuum bagged cored main and intermediate bulkheads, a customized E-glass lamination schedule and infused fuel and water tanks. An aggressive entry with over six feet of free board forward rakes over head seas and its sheer line proudly carries aft with an eye pleasing profile. The running surface is equally adept with 13.9 degree transom dead-rise, and two pairs of lift strakes providing lateral response and tracking confidence in any seaway.  The command bridge of the 44 Open shares many of the practical and notable aspects of its larger siblings including the tournament proven center helm station on a raised platform for enhanced visibility through the one-piece molded fiberglass wraparound windshield. A side enclosure provides all weather protection, as well as touch screen climate control when the command deck is air conditioned, a popular option. The helm pod available in molded fiberglass or teak and is equipped with single lever electronic engine controls, a polished stainless-steel wheel, and power assisted hydraulic steering. A raised molded fiberglass console complements the helm with room for a bank of three monitors for navigation electronics, along with space for engine instrumentation and other accessories. Recessed compartments accommodate radios and additional equipment, plus accessory switches and controls. The spacious command deck with a molded nonslip fiberglass sole affords generous seating options including three adjustable pedestal seats with foot rests. A four-place L-shape lounge with a dinette table is to starboard. As you would expect from Viking the lounge backrest lifts to expose a convenient fishing rod stowage area. To port, a large integral console houses refrigeration with an ice maker and generous stowage compartments. Overhead rod stowage and a teaser reel compartment are available in the molded fiberglass hardtop.  Outfitted with a custom designed and built Palm Beach Towers’ tuna tower, another of Viking’s experienced subsidiaries, the 44 Open comes ready to fish with a second complete helm, a fiberglass buggy top and Rupp outriggers. The tower is a valuable addition both for fishing and for reading the shallows when negotiating Bahamian waters.  A sliding door and a sturdy staircase with stowage and a concealed central vacuum system lead to the salon affording numerous comfort treatments. With its near to five meter beam, the widest of any boat in this class, the salon is particularly noteworthy by taking full advantage of the square footage fostering a prime social area for relaxing and entertaining. Nicely appointed with professional designer touches and furnishings, the salon features custom Amtico flooring, a flat screen television and a multi-directional stereo system. Viking’s craftsmanship abounds and the large L-shape lounge creates an inviting atmosphere with a convertible dinette that serves double duty as a meal center with additional sleeping accommodations. A well-equipped galley includes Corian counter tops with a recessed sink and an electric surface mounted cook-top. A microwave/convection oven and drawer-style under counter refrigeration, as well as abundant cabinetry maximizes stowage capacities for supplies, dinner and cookware.  Privacy is enhanced by separating the sleeping accommodations between the salon and galley with the master stateroom forward and a second stateroom aft. In the master, there is a walk-around queen bed with an innerspring mattress with plenty of stowage underneath. Fine joinery lines the hull sides with stowage options and a maple-lined hanging locker. Air conditioning, a flat screen television, a Bomar hatch, carpeting, and private access to the head and shower are among standard amenities.  The aft stateroom on the port side features a queen bed, a maple lined hanging locker, reading lights, carpeting, and plenty of stowage.  The  eleven square meter cockpit just steps away from the command bridge deck is tournament ready with flush rod holders, fresh and salt water wash down systems, a transom live well, and a transom door with a lift gate. Under gunwale features include LED rope lighting, wash down spigots, gaff and tag stick stowage, a freshwater fill, and a quick disconnect fitting to the oil exchange system for the engines, transmissions and the generator.  The Viking 44 Open features a conventional shaft drive system utilizing of a pair of Man 800hp each. Matched to a set of high performance Veem propellers, the 44 Open will cruise at 2100 rpm at 33 knots with a top end around 37 knots depending upon load, sea conditions, and other environmental factors.  The Viking 44 Open is scheduled to launch late Summer 2017, what I thought was a 42 replacement but by the specification it looks not.

Project: Viking 93 Motor Yacht

It was 2013 when Viking decided to return into building motor yachts, and a year later to this in the fall of 2014 the first hull was launched, and today the 75 Motor Yacht is a success, with the range getting an order for a new 82 in the second part of 2016.  Come end of 2016 though more positive news comes into Viking way for its Motor Yacht range with an order for a completely new 93 set to launch in mid Summer 2017.  The 93 Motor Yacht will take the title as Viking flagship, from the successful 92 Sportfish which has delivered in ten units in a year and a half production period. For 2017 Viking has an order book to deliver seventeen super yachts over 24 meters.  So far we have very little details of the 93 Motor Yacht regarding accommodation layout, what is sure is that it will be a typical American three deck hull with an enclosed bridge up top. Engines for the first 93 Motor Yacht will be twin MTU 1920hp which should give a max speed of 27 knots and a cruise of 24.
