New Launch: Bayliss 72 B25

Bayliss has delivered hull B25, a 72 feet custom sportfish yacht titled Old Reliable. Old Reliable is a name long associated with the Bayliss Boatworks family. In 2003, offshore fly fishing legend Nick Smith, set out to build 64 B5 Old Reliable. Smith, with an already impressive fishing history, set new records and achieved great milestones with Hull 5. In 2019 he set the world record for the largest number of striped marlin caught and released on fly in a single day, and holds multiple other single day records as well. Over the years, Bayliss Boatworks was active in supporting Old Reliable with maintenance and up-fittings, whether state-side or abroad. So, in 2019 Bayliss Boatworks was commissioned to build Hull 25, the new 72 Old Reliable. Upon comparison, you will see many similarities between Hull 5 and 25, as Smith became adapted to many qualities on the original boat. With fourteen years between the builds, there was also great opportunity for modernization and improvement. The same excellence and attention to detail that are engrained in Smith’s fishing practice were utilized when it came time to develop the plans for Hull 25. The hull and topside are coated in Imron Cloud White with a black and gold boot stripe to match her black and gold transom artwork done by Everett Nautical. Hand selected natural teak-boards make up her interior cockpit and coverboards. The toe rail, helm pod and salon door are all faux teak courtesy of Izzy Teak. Her cockpit features a custom rigging station with live-well and rocket launcher. Mechanically, Old Reliable is powered with two CAT 1,925hp which make her reach a registered top speed of 39.5 knots fully loaded. She is equipped with a Seakeeper 18 aftm and a Seakeeper 9 forward for stability, two 25kw Northern Lights generators, and two FCI 1850 gallon per day water makers. Custom Marine Electronics has installed the latest in marine electronics, including a Furuno Omni Sonar. The interior of Bayliss B25 is designed to be accommodating and efficient with plenty of storage for extended offshore trips. The salon is comprised of one large custom L-shaped sofa on the port side and a bar area starboard side complete with a sink, a Hoshizaki cubelet icemaker, and custom actuated liquor storage. The galley features a Wolf 2 burner cooktop, a Viking microwave, two Subzero refrigerator units, one Subzero freezer unit, three Release Marine teak barstools, Nilo River granite countertops and natural cork flooring. The lower level optimizes both guest space and storage. To port is the master stateroom with adjoining master head and to starboard are two crew staterooms with a shared head. In the companionway there is rod and tackle storage and a stacked washer and dryer. At the end of the companionway forward, there is another master stateroom with adjoining head. Both starboard crew staterooms have stacked bunks with teak bases with entrances to the shared crew head. The captain’s stateroom features a TV with separate marine electronic screens. In the master, teak cabinets line the stateroom with two full height hanging lockers and extra storage found beneath the bunk.

In the first week of January 2022, Bayliss began construction on their newest project: hull number 30 a 60 feet custom sportfish open express to be called Sequentis. The 60 custom sportfishing walkaround express will have 360 degrees of fishability, and is the second express to come from Bayliss since twenty years and hull number one, the 2002 launched 30 feet twin outboard powered centre console which started it all for the custom Carolina boat builder.  After that Bayliss has solely build flybridge sportfish yachts, larger then 57 feet.  Bayliss 60 B30 is to be powered by twin MTU 1974hp. New Launch: F&S 61 Hardtop Express Hull #30

FandS present the 61 hardtop express, hull number 30 and called Soul Candy by its owner.  FandS hull thirty was designed as a family-friendly express sportfish yacht with space for entertaining, with a host of custom options that allow the owner-operator to communicate and interact with the crew on fishing trips to the Gulf of Mexico and the Bahamas. One of the primary challenges with FandS hull #30 was to add a tall owner, and superior interior headroom. Keeping the sweeping lines FandS is known for, while accommodating someone of height, would require some out-of-the-gate thinking. The design team created a two meters plus character named Fred within the CAD program, who would be moved around the virtual boat to be sure proper clearance of areas such as the companionway, staterooms and showers. Cad-Fred was also integral to helm line-of-sight, both while running and to the angler in the fighting chair, and because the interior space is directly connected to all the exterior dimensions, it was necessary to consider every detail. FandS 61 Hardtop Express features an eleven squared meters cockpit deck which easily fits the large fighting chair with an offset pedestal and on-deck tuna tubes, essential when you plan on fighting some of the monsters living near the rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. The classic straight lines of the teak cockpit boards tame the curvy, signature FandS radial mezzanine and transom live-well. A giant lazarette is accessible by way of a Freeman Marine deck hatch located under the chair’s footrest and ensures safe, dry storage below for the multitude of systems located there. The bright interior of the helm deck is striking. The hardtop express design allows for a view of the world around her, and FandS takes the view to new levels by incorporating one giant piece of custom curved glass on each side. By doing so, there is little to break that uninterrupted sightline, providing a true, 360-degree perspective. FandS 61 Hardtop Express runs smooth and quiet at all speeds, thanks to the twin MTU 1600hp engines giving a solid cruising speed of 35 knots and a top end of 42 knots.

Project: Albemarle 53 Spencer Edition

Albemarle and Spencer announce a newly formed partnership between the two companies and their plan to build a semi-custom 53 foot Carolina boat. In the time since, design work has been completed, the Edenton facility has been made ready, the hull mould has been received and prepared, and the additional tooling is in process. Today that construction of the first 53 Spencer Edition has begun at Albemarle’s Edenton, North Carolina facility.  The first 53 will be a flybridge design that will combine the classic Spencer styling with Albemarle quality and innovations. The hull design will provide high cruise speeds with the seakeeping ability that both Albemarle and Spencer have long been known for. Her interior will boast an open salon layout, three staterooms, and two heads. An island helm arrangement, forward facing lounge, and bench seating will offer abundant seating and excellent visibility from the bridge. The massive aft cockpit deck will feature a transom fish box, transom door, and a mezzanine design with engine room access and moulded boxes that can be customized to accommodate a variety of storage and refrigeration.  No engine or performance data is yet given but considering that Spencer is involved I am expecting a minimum of forty knots.

Improve-it = Bertram 61 Convertible

Spiral stair cases taking you from the aft main deck to the flybridge are today very common in flybridge motor cruisers and yachts since they where introduced in the early mid nineties.  But on sportfish cruisers and yachts, they are not so common mostly because they eat cockpit space which on battlewagon is always very important especially in the fishing battle situations.  With around half of sportfishing cruisers and yachts being used as mostly cruising boats, there is always an exception to the rule and here we are seeing the Cad design of a Bertram 61 ordered with a custom made spiral stair case.  Designed by Michael Peters the Bertram 61 was introduced in 2018, and is the heir to the legendary 54 model which changed the sportfishing world from 1981 onwards.

Project: Viking 54 Convertible

Following Viking's mantra to build a better boat every day, the New Jersey boat builder has consistently brought new and exciting yachts to you for 56 years.  That proficiency is particularly strong in the 50-to-60-foot sportfish boat genre, where Viking has introduced 10 models in the past two decades. This legacy fleet consists of more than 600 Vikings and includes ground-breaking models such as the 60 and 55, two renditions of the 52 Convertible and the first-generation 54. Now, the New Jersey boatbuilder reaffirms its domination of the mid-size convertible with the new Viking 54. The three-stateroom, two-head open bridge yacht pushes the owner/operator convertible to the highest levels of engineering, performance, accommodations and sportfishing capabilities. The Viking 54 Convertible will make its world premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in end October 2020.  The Viking 54 sets new milestones of innovation while integrating ideas garnered from sales and owner feedback, as well as thousands of hours logged by our Viking demo teams on the tournament trail. The 54 presents an eye-pleasing profile that’s unmistakably Viking, with signature design traits such as a gently sloping unbroken S-shaped sheer, aggressively raked stem, double chines, hull-side vents and deftly placed exterior feature lines.  Using Computational Fluid Dynamics software, the Viking Design and Engineering Department has optimized the 54’s running surface for maximum performance. Now an integral part of the design process, our in-house CFD allows us to run numerous virtual sea trials to fine-tune the shape of the hull bottom for increased efficiency. The hull is built with an engineered composite of fiberglass fabrics and coring that’s vacuum-infused with vinylester resin.  The 54’s business end offers more space than any other boat in its class. The fourteen square meters unobstructed cockpit comes to the fishing wars with the ammunition to put you in the winner’s circle, starting with moulded non-skid on the cockpit sole for grippy footing and large scuppers to drain water quickly.  A walk-through transom door with a lift gate takes the work out of boating a trophy catch. And when you’re release-fishing, a three-foot reach to the waterline means you can quickly turn a billfish loose. Anglers will appreciate Viking’s signature rounded cockpit coamings and toe-kick for those lengthy stand-up battles. Flush rod holders, recessed stainless-steel hawse pipes and cleats keep the cockpit clear.  Multiple insulated fish-boxes of various capacities increase flexibility. The raised transom box can be used as a live well, fish-box or general storage. A full-length in-deck fish-box spans the starboard side, while the port side holds two storage compartments with the forward serving as an optional live well. A mounting plate laminated into the sole will anchor the mightiest of fighting chairs, and you can also opt for a rocket launcher or table. A single centerline lazarette hatch opens nearly 90 degrees for full viewability and access to the available Seakeeper as well as the steering, trim tabs and drain pumps. Guests will be enamoured with the raised observation mezzanine (pioneered by Viking) as they watch the action in comfort, shaded by the flybridge overhang. Smart storage solutions abound, with freezer and cooler space under the mezzanine for baits and drinks and a tackle cabinet on the starboard side. The inboard portion of the mezzanine provides access to the engine-room. An anodized aluminium ladder with nonslip treads (and a handrail at the top) provides secure egress to the flybridge. A streamlined walk-around centre console provides 360-degree sightlines. Touchscreen electronics displays and a row of Bocatech switches with power status LED rings are flush mounted in the helm dash. Their installation and positioning heighten viewability and ease of access.  A stainless steel steering wheel and single-lever electronic controls are mounted on a raised teak helm pod. Optimus Electronic Power Steering delivers precise manoeuvrability and finger-tip control. The console itself is designed with toe-kick all around for better balance and increased walking area. The helm and companion chair supply ample comfort for those long rides to the canyons, and guests can take it easy in the port or starboard lounges or forward console seat.  The 54 can be outfitted with a custom designed and fabricated Palm Beach Towers tuna tower and equipped with navigation, communication and entertainment systems from Atlantic Marine Electronics. Making full use of the five meter plus of beam, the 54’s layout accentuates the impressive size of her interior. The key to the configuration is the uninterrupted companionway that stretches from the starboard-side salon door all the way to the forepeak. The lounge area and galley are to port, while the dinette is to starboard.  High-gloss teak or walnut is offered for the 54’s interior, and a satin finish is optional. Premium wall-to-wall carpeting and furnishings can be found throughout the climate-controlled living area. Air conditioning flows quietly from valances for comfortable cooling and thorough distribution. A hi-lo mappa burl cocktail table joins the L-shaped lounge with storage below. A 49” HD TV is nested on the forward starboard bulkhead above the dinette, which is appointed with a high-gloss mappa burl table and wraparound seating for four. The galley’s peninsula countertop features engineered stone with an overhang and two convenient bar stools. The galley is feature-packed with a pair of under-counter Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer units and storage under the peninsula counter. The opposite counter is home to a stainless steel sink with garbage disposal and an electric cooktop.  The three-stateroom two-head layout includes a master suite to port with a walk-around queen berth sided by night stands and a credenza to port. There’s a large maple-lined storage area beneath the mattress, accessed via a gas piston-assisted lift-up top, and two drawers are integrated into the foot of the bed. A 32-inch HD TV is mounted above a second credenza. A generously proportioned maple-lined hanging locker accommodates a sizeable wardrobe.  The forward stateroom comes standard with a queen berth, but also is available with a crossover berth arrangement. Both plans offer plenty of storage along with a 32” HD TV. The starboard stateroom has upper and lower berths along with a hanging locker and storage under the lower berth. Each stateroom is fully carpeted, with dedicated temperature and stereo controls, speakers and overhead LED lighting.  The heads feature custom Amtico flooring, a lower vanity, a medicine cabinet with mirrored doors, exhaust fans, air conditioning and electric heads with holding tank and overboard discharge capabilities. Both also boast very large walk-in one-piece fiberglass showers with an expansive glass enclosure and door. Below the detachable shower head, you’ll find a convenient storage cabinet as well as an integrated fiberglass seat.  The optional Man 1550hp diesels power hull No. 1. With this propulsion package, the Viking 54 Convertible will have an estimated cruise speed in the mid-30-knot range with a top end of 40-plus knots depending upon load, sea state and boat condition. A pair of Man 1440hp diesels are standard. All mechanicals and equipment are installed with great attention to detail in an immaculate engine-room painted with Snow White Awlgrip for visibility and ease of maintenance.

The striking leather-finish “Persian Caramel” granite installed throughout the upper and lower levels easily compliments the teak veneers on the surrounding cabinetry.  The galley features two SubZero refrigerators, one SubZero freezer, a Miele speed oven and cook-top, and a Hoshizaki ice maker. The walk-in pantry and day head on the upper level provide convenience for owners who enjoy entertaining family; the day head also contains a washer and dryer, concealed by teak cabinetry.  Upon entering the lower level, a spacious tackle room sits just off the companionway. Sleek, accessible reel and LP storage showcase the equipment above teak cabinetry.  Focal points in both the VIP and master staterooms are stunning olive ash burl headboards, which pop against the teak-veneered walls. The walls in each of these rooms conceal custom fabricated Bayliss Boatworks air-actuated Pullman bunks for optimal guest accommodation.  The guest stateroom contains two bunks, with cabbies containing drink holders and USB charging ports, as well as a hanging locker a private head. Just off of the main companionway, a teak spiral staircase leads down to the crew stateroom and head, and also provides access to the pump room and engine room.

New Model: Hatteras GT65 Carolina

With the new GT65 Carolina, Hatteras signals a new design direction, enhanced performance, and custom features for clients seeking an alternative to either a custom builder or other competitors ordinary off-the-shelf boats. The GT65's sleek profile refreshes the look of the GT Series while still maintaining its core Hatteras DNA. Its new flybridge arrangement features an ergonomically-designed console that puts all the controls within easy reach.  The GT65 Carolina’s added volume is evident in its large cockpit, which is designed for ultimate fish-ability. The mezzanine incorporates optional integrated seat back air conditioning for all-day comfort and large stainless steel built-in storage boxes.  The Hatteras GT65 Carolina offers a four-stateroom, three-head interior layout maximizing the boat’s additional volume in both living and storage space. The ensuite master stateroom is the largest in its class, but guests billeted in the forward VIP will not feel slighted in the least. Two big bunk rooms allow owners to bring along a big team of anglers and crew.  But the GT65 Carolina’s key advantage over the competition lies in its new hull and tunnel design. Utilizing high-tech Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis, Hatteras’ team of engineers optimized hull form to ensure superior performance, handling and seaworthiness. In addition, the hull and stringer system are infused as a single part, an industry first, to reduce weight and increase strength. The GT65 Carolina incorporates an all-new layout of the engine room for ease of maintenance and serviceability. For owners seeking additional comfort, there is also an optional twin Seakeeper 9 installation, without compromising fuel capacity.

Improve-it = Viking 58 Convertible

Considered a production yacht builder Viking takes a semi custom approach to each clients requests in all of the models it produces today from 38 to 93 feet.  So here is a story of a client who upgraded from his Viking 48 to a 58.  In a factory visit this client saw a molded stair case and inquired whether this is possible to fit in a Viking 58.  Viking responded immediately to this customer moving his build from hull number 11 to number 14.  This is not the first time Viking does something similar as they did same to a client request on a Viking 50 back in 2012.
