Consult ~ 28-29 meter Raised Pilot House Super Yacht 2016

INTRO
The new 28 to 29 meter Raised Pilot House Super Yacht was created by Sanlorenzo in 2011, when it replaced the long standing good selling SL88 with the SL94.  Just as the 88, the SL94 was also a raised pilot house yacht, but had an important different layout which the previous model did not offer, for a main deck with fore ship owners stateroom.  The SL94 had also the advantage which similar type and size yachts above 28 meter did not have in 2011, and that was a hull size or load line length 23.9 meters or under.  Meaning it can be helmed by owners or captains with a standard yacht master licence.  This gave the SL94 two features unheard in this size; owners room on the main deck which used to be found in yachts a couple meters bigger, and a hull size which legally classifies as a smaller yacht.
PRESENT
The Sanlorenzo SL94 was an important change and other builders reacted to this.  In the fall of 2012 Ferretti presented the project for the 960, a new flagship for the Yachts range launching in the first half of 2013.  Amer came following in 2013 with the semi wide body Cento measuring just above 29 meters.  Always in high attention Azimut followed with the new Grande 95RPH which launched in early 2014.  Seeing all this competition in 2014 Sanlorenzo tweaked its SL94, and developed it into the SL96 with some important modernization details, see large sized cabin windows below, and opening optional balconies on the main deck.  The last to join the pack is the British Sunseeker who in 2015 presented the project for its new raised pilot house 95 Yacht which the Poole based builder launched in the second quarter of 2016.
Upcoming is the Summer 2016 presented project by Canados with the 969 Coliseum, set to launch in 2017.  The Canados will be an interesting challenge to all builders listed here, with Sanlorenzo being the traditional competitor, as both builders are a representation of hand build made in Italy semi-custom yachts since the 1970's.
FUTURE
It is a growing new class with some important super yacht builders creating an interesting choice to buyers looking for a raised pilot house pocket super yacht of 28 to 29 meters overall with a hull or load line length less to 23.9 meters and an owners stateroom on the main deck.  Who is next in this class is all speculative, but expect something to come from Montecarlo Yachts, Princess, and Fipa Maiora.  I would say the next new challenge in this size coming from Montecarlo Yachts who would not surprise me to have something ready for 2017 as the company has an empty spot between its large 105 and 86 models.

New Model: Sanlorenzo SL78

Sanlorenzo replaces the mythical nearly two decades produced 72 with the new entry level SL78 born as project SL76 in 2015.  Just as the new SL86 launched last year in Cannes the new SL78 is designed by the studio of Mauro Mucheli's Officina Italiana, a collaboration which should bring a new era from the highly esteemed Italian motor and super yacht builder.  Micheli the man behind the new Riva's from the 1990's onward till today, brings a fresh approach to Sanlorenzo conservative style, from larger window profiles to the sheer line which in both these new models features a soft cut in order to allow for full visibility from the saloon windows.  Some Sanlorenzo traits are still kept, as the split level saloon, separate galley area, and the hardtop which now comes from the larger models into the smaller ones.  Another appreciated solution of the new SL78 will be a free space on the flybridge with tender located in a garage aft.  Just before the fall 2016 boat show season kicked off in Cannes, Sanlorenzo had three further SL78 being built.

New Model: Sanlorenzo SL86

It is always a hard decision to replace a best selling model, but earlier this 2015 year Sanlorenzo announced the revered 82 model was being replaced by the new 86. A huge model for Sanlorenzo, the 82 was in the mid nineties an important novelty for the brand. Just imagine how many other brands did change there 24 meter pocket sized super yacht since then, yet that Sanlorenzo stayed there with a little bit of a make up boost in 2006 and most important it kept on selling. Now after twenty years Sanlorenzo launches the new SL86 in Cannes its new pocket super yacht representing important changes, starting from the design who now is in the hands of Mauro Mucheli and Sergio Beretta Officina Italiana, in charge of Riva since the nineties and a trend setter in recent years. The SL86 has the modern Sanlorenzo DNA see feeling lower on the water, plus some new differences as the curved shear line in the first third part of the hull, and as mentioned by the PR of the shipyard the use of larger windows especially those serving the main deck.  As any Sanlorenzo the SL86 does not try to change the World but it is all about a traditional Italian motor yacht which never gets old however you see it.  The SL86 has sold already five units on plan, and after its Cannes baptism above I am sure the order book for this model will get fuller over time.

New Model: Sanlorenzo 460EXP

Sanlorenzo celebrated last week the launch of the first explorer unit of its range, a superyacht characterized by high technology and comfort on board, and most of all, significant cruising self sufficiency and endurance. 460EXP is a 460 gross-tonnage super yacht of 42,2 meters in length, with a displacement hull in steel and an aluminum superstructure. She has five decks and, like every Sanlorenzo in over fifty years, was built according to the highest construction standards, with special attention given to the elegance of the design. The 460EXP external lines are strong and imposing and they evoke the big exploration ships that cruise in remote and unknown areas. The superstructure is shifted forward, leaving vast space on the main deck astern where a large tender up to ten meters, water-toys, sailing or fishing boats, surf boards, etc. can be housed while cruising. When at anchor and free of equipment, the main deck of the 460EXP becomes a wide solarium featuring, on this specific unit, a large and heated “endless swimming pool” in which guests can swim against an artificial current. The lower deck welcomes a beach-club with a bar and, thanks to the fully open-able stern, it becomes an additional and exclusive terrace on the sea. The interior layout includes 5 guest cabins on the lower deck, a fitness room, a large owner’s suite and 2 spacious salons on the main and upper deck. The crew cabins and service areas are large and comfortable, something not always found in yachts of similar size. An under lower deck linking the crew accommodation to the engine room provides the laundry space and storage necessary for long range cruising. Performance wise, the 460EXP is capable of covering over 4000 nautical miles autonomously at an economical speed of 11 knots, thanks to twin CAT 1319hp engines. Sanlorenzo 460EXP will be unveiled on September 23rd on the occasion of the Monaco Yacht Show 2015.

Project: Sanlorenzo SL76

After showing the SL86 project as outlined in Dusseldorf, PowerYacht today shows you the other important future model announcement which came from Sanlorenzo in Germany the SL76.  This new Sanlorenzo project will replace the popular 1997 launched 72 model, and should follow the same novelties as in the bigger sister; improved hull ergonomics, floating floor to reduce vibration and noise, and vacuum resin infused construction. Expect to see these changes in all future SL line Sanlorenzo models from now onwards. The SL76 shows also the recent Sanlorenzo design team change now in the hands of Mauro Micheli's Officina Italiana Design team, who takes over from the long experience which came with Francesco Paszkowski. Micheli's take on both the SL76 and 86 is for conservative modern looks in line with what Sanlorenzo has been trough the years.

Project: Sanlorenzo SL86

Sanlorenzo starts an important new course and with this extend the collaboration with renowned design team of Mauro Miceli and his Officina Italiana studio onto its entry level planning range. During a press conference at the Dusseldorf boat show Sanlorenzo unveiled projects for the SL76 and SL86 which will replace the successful and nearly two decades standing 72 and 82 models. It is an important move from Sanlorenzo and a replacement of two important models, which even when still in production always got the admiration of being timeless classic yachts. As the rendering above for SL86 shows, the new course of Sanlorenzo will feature large windows in both the super-structure serving the living, and the lower deck for the cabins. Additional features will be the option of a larger extended bathing platform with hi-lo launch; this increasing space for an extra tender or allowing that of a larger rib.  On plan the SL86 is offered with two interior layouts; the main difference but important option is all about the galley this available on the main deck, or below in the crew area.  In the lower deck galley choice the VIP suite will move further forward. The SL86 will also feature technical advances such as vacuum infusion for the hull construction, floating floor to minimize vibration, and hull hydrodynamics which improve consumption at cruse.  Power options for the SL86 start from twin MTU of 1622hp up to 1947hp units. Top speed is 31 knots from the large MTU engine option.

New Model: Sanlorenzo SD112

Two years after the first plans for this new model were began, Sanlorenzo has just launched “O”, the first SD112 unit a 33 meter semi-displacement super yacht in composite material, made to measure according to the tastes and the style of her owner, like every Sanlorenzo since 1958. After the recent launch of the astounding SL118, 37 meter planning hull presented at Rapallo during the Sanlorenzo Elite Days, the SD112 made her first sea debut. The launch ceremony was attended by her owner who came from the Central America with his family and friends to celebrate the important event along with everyone from Sanlorenzo that contributed in her construction. The SD112 was built to enhance the historic Sanlorenzo semi-displacement fiberglass line named SD, with a model that position itself neatly between the two existing models SD92 and SD122, so as to complete the SD range and to offer a product that provides the best aspects of both. The experience gained by Sanlorenzo with the more than 30 SD models launched, allowed the shipyard to plan a flawless design. As a testimony to a great balance achieved with the SD112 model in terms of design, volume and performance, as of today six SD112 units have already been sold, even before the official launch of “O” and the next three hulls are in an advanced stage of production. Though maintaining the unmistakable features of the SD range, such as the curved doors on the sides and the lateral window shape, the SD112 offers innovative solutions like the fold-able terraces in the salon area that open out seawards and the door which connect the huge cockpit to the salon that, once completely opened creates one unique living area between outdoors and indoors. The superstructure has three decks, but thanks to a series of stylish design innovations it has the slim line appearance of a two deck yacht. The sundeck is very roomy and “O” even accommodates a large Jacuzzi, totally surrounded by sunbeds, while the unmistakable Sanlorenzo SD “funnel” brings to mind the thirties transatlantic liners. “O”’s interior design are completely chosen by her owner, in a modern style incorporating prestigious Made in Italy brands, like Edra, Minotti and Paola Lenti sofas, Enzo degli Angioni fabrics and Penelope Oggi leathers. The Tanganyika walnut teak placed on the cockpit ceiling is original and unique, as is the artistic covering in resin and metal used on the shutters of the large salon wardrobe: an authentic piece of art by Italian studio ORK. The main deck, besides the salon, also permits a sumptuous owner’s cabin that dominates the bow area while the lower deck can host another four guests cabins and the crew quarter with seven beds.

Project: Sanlorenzo 36 EXP

Currently the second largest super yacht builder in the World, Sanlorenzo shows that it wants to strengthen this position not only by building larger yachts, see project of a new sixty meter, but also by entering new segments of the market. This project rendering, the 36 Exp follows that of the 42 Exp shown in 2013. The Exp in this range stands for Explorer, and Sanlorenzo and its designers give tribute to this by showing a working tug boat look mixed into elegant lines with three decks.  An open space to aft with ability to carry some large tenders is featured in the 36 Exp.  Currently Sanlorenzo has hull one scheduled for the 36 Exp with a launch date in 2015.

Project: Sanloreno 62 Steel

Sanlorenzo, the third shipyard in the world ranking of the top twenty builders over 24 meters announce a new flagship: the 62 Steel, a 203ft superyacht build in steel.  This new Sanlorenzo flagship is a design to Officina Italiana Design, of Maura Micheli following an agreement between the two firms for a full partnership.  An interesting challenge both for Sanlorenzo who are considered as smart looking conservative yachts, to Officina Italian Design who its designs for Riva have been modern and trend setters with branding from this firm which makes them become a classic.  For the 62 Steel, Mauro Micheli presented a three deck super yacht, and follows the usual Sanlorenzo style of being conservative while at the same having that something which never makes it look old.

Project: Sanlorenzo SD110

Sanlorenzo SD semi displacement line has been one of its most successful range, since this was introduced to high acclaim in 2007 with the 92 model.  This new 110 project sits in the middle of the current line in between the 92 and 122 models, and is the third model of the range.  The 110 is a three deck super yacht which evokes traditional lines with modern elements.  In the two standard plans offered for the SD110 both are a five double guest cabins layout, with an owners master stateroom on the main deck.  Three double crew cabins sleeping six are located to fore.  Interesting details are the tender garage able to accommodate a five meter tender, and a split part possible in one of the main deck layouts for the aft part of the main saloon becoming part of the cockpit.  Power is twin MTU 1468hp engines giving a top speed of 17 and a cruise of 11 knots.  Range is 2750 nautical miles at 11 knots.

Project: Sanlorenzo SL118

Sanlorenzo presents a new flagship project for its SL planning line which currently start with the builders entry level 62 model, and ends with the 108.  The SL line represents Sanlorenzo more in demand line with models as the 72 and 82 being around fifteen years in production and receiving the SL make over when ownership change happened in the middle of the past decade.  The SL 118 extends this line by ten feet and apart maintaining the usual exterior Sanlorenzo looks now renowned to any yacht connoisseur World wide it introduces the wide body in the forward part to this line.  Sanlorenzo have already used this to the much acclaimed multi prized 40 Alloy.  Semi custom as all Sanlorenzo in the SL line the 118 is offered in two interior deck layout with an accommodation guest plan situated more to midships, and crew cabin to fore or the other way round.  In both plans the owners cabins is located on the main deck, but in one plan this takes more the looks of an apartment with a saloon presented to starboard.  The SL 118 is to be powered by twin MTU 2600hp engines with traditional in line propulsion which give a max speed of 28 knots.

New Model: Sanlorenzo SL94

A new Sanlorenzo is always headline news for the motor yacht enthusiasts, and while the company has been going into more modern looks, the classic unmistakable lines of this Italian builder remain.  The SL94 is a totally new model which for Sanlorenzo fills the gap between the long produced and much appreciated 88, and the last year presented 104.  The SL94 is designed by long standing Sanlorenzo designer Paszkowski who presents a two deck and half super yacht. The half deck being the raised pilot house.  Down below is four double cabins in traditional layout, meaning owners room to midships, VIP to fore and two double guest cabins in between.  Although as any Sanlorenzo do accept the layout to be custom not only in fittings but also in format.  This is the most standard accepted format by the usual buyer.  Crew space is located to fore with two cabins sleeping four on bunks.  Here Sanlorenzo keeps its name of having small cabin space for size, that is of 28 meters.  Power is from two units from standard Cats 1896hp, and optional MTU 2184hp units.  Top speeds are 27 knots with the standard Cats, and 29 with the optional MTU.

Project: Sanlorenzo SL94

Sanlorenzo continue to show new models, and again with the help of Francesco Paszkowski  present the project for the SL94.  In this new project of two and half decks Francesco follows the Sanlorenzo family style of raised pilot house design as presented in the mid nineties with the 100, and later followed with the 88, 108, and recent SL104. This project follows the themes seen on Sanlorenzo latest launch the 2010 presented SL104; like a flybridge dedicated all for entertainment, four meter plus tender stowage in aft garage, and larger port holes.  Larger in the Sanlorenzo World, that means do not expect the glued windows as you see in more modern fancy looking yachts.  Down below the SL94 will accommodate eight guests in four spacious suites, with the owners stateroom located to midships.  The main deck is all dedicated for relaxing with an entrance aft filled with relaxing sofas, and moving to fore in a separate area which is dedicated to dining, and cooking.  Crew accommodation is located to fore below, also forming a sound proofing element to the VIP cabin located behind.  The SL94 will also be available to order in a hard top version as above, and open with radar arch to be covered if desired by a bimini.  Power is for standard twin Cats 1890hp, and optional MTU 2100hp.  This last optional choice should give top speeds of 29 knots.

New Model: Sanlorenzo SL104

Renowned Italian Super Yacht builder Sanlorenzo presents the new SL104, receiving exterior design treatment from architects Franceso Paszkowski outside, and Rodolfo Dordoni inside. What long standing Sanlorezo collaborator Paszkowski for the SL104 presents a total redifinition to looks and echoes of this highly regard builder, with echoes of the 40 Alloy in the radar arch, new stern, and now having also hiding anchors. The main deck looks also less aggressive offering better comfort thanks to more height, with the raised forward pilot house also receiving a further movement to fore in order to offer a bigger flybridge deck. Although unless you see a Sanlorenzo 100, the model the new SL104 replaces next to each other this is very difficult to tell. A big change is also to the bathing platform with the SL104 having the longest platform ever seen on a Sanlorenzo with a bit of a new design here to the usual looks which have stayed with the Viareggio builder since the mid nineties. Further changes are also in the aft part of the flybridge use, now reserved as a sun worshippers paradise instead the usually tender stowage area. Milan interior designer Roldolfo Dordoni presented also an interior which looks more to luxury then to a lot of cabins with a three or four guest cabins plan. This last is quite standard in this size, with the three cabin plan being very unusual for a hundred footer. Crew space is for three or five in a two or three cabin plan. The SL104 has a fifteen degrees medium vee shaped hull, rather angled for this size with much of the competition usually offering flatter sections aft. Power is by twin MTU 2435hp which gives the SL104 a 28 knots wide open throttle performance, with a 26 knots all time cruise.

Projects: Sanlorenzo 44 Steel, Sanlorenzo SD 112

The famous San Lorenzo shipyard after presenting it's first Alloy Super Yacht last year follows with the project of the 44 Steel. As the title suggest the new Super Yacht from the Viareggio shipyard will be built in Steel. Little information is as yet available about the new project accept for the fact that it will be a three deck. Whatever the case if it will be as innovative and catching as the latest 40 Alloy we are for another threat this renowned yacht builder.
Another new line for San Lorenzo which was introduced in 2007 with the SD 92. SD standing for a semi displacement type hull yacht, giving comfortable but also a more economic speed compared to the planning line this builder is renowned for. The SD 112 unlike it's smaller sister is a three deck motor yacht and will have a 5 cabin interior for 10 guests. Crew accommodation is for 7 members in 4 cabins. Performance is an estimated top speed of 18 knots with continues cruising at 15 knots, powered by Caterpillar C32 Acert engines of 1622hp each. The SD 112 confirms similar characteristics to the SD 92 introduced in 2007 but in bigger more important dimensions. It will be curious to see if San Lorenzo will try to take the concept of a Semi Displacement Yacht in lower size range under 24 metres in the future.
