Super Yacht Ends Aground in Grenada

A 27 meter super yacht titled m/y Neeven with British flag ended aground in Carchuna Beach, Motril, Grenada on Wednesday February ninth 2022.  The yacht was en-route from Puerto Banus to Almeria, when a technical engine problem forced it to finish beached in Carchuna.  The crew of the yacht which was reported to be the French owner and his family where rescued by Maritime Rescue, National Police, and Guardia Civil Maritime Service after being trapped onboard for five hours, and transferred to a hotel.  After this the owner apparently left the hotel, refusing along with his insurance responsibility for salvage, following this the ownership was transferred to Maritime Captaincy, who started working to remove it from the beach with Salvatore Maritimo.  On February eleven Salvatore Maritimo started to remove fuel and other pollutants from Neeven, with the yacht full cleaned on the fifteenth, and towed by SAR Mastelero to Motril on Friday eighteen February.  The faith of Neeven is now in the hands of Maritime Captaincy who will decide whether to auction or scrap the super yacht.
M/y Neeven is a fully alumimium build 27 meter Van Mill, build in Holland 1986 to a design by Antonio Maggini with naval architecture by Mulder.  Van Mill is an obscure Dutch ship building name, who debuted in 1986 with Neeven, and build two other 43 and 25 meters super yachts in 1988 and 92 respectively.  Though this Maggini design did have five other sister hulls build by Versilcraft in Italy, and another by Heesen between 1986 and 91, with these missing that rectangle shape bulwark which joined the main deck with the flybridge.

New Model: Princess V50

Princess present the new V50, its third generation model with this name, and an evolution of glazed hull surfaces on the 2018 presented model it replaces, which was an update in length to the 2013 presented V48.  It is more a styling exercise then other really fundamental changes here, with the big hull windows being the main difference to the previous V50.  The layout inside on both main and lower deck is unchanged, offering two cabins; a forward VIP, and a large midships owners room.  The Princess V50 is powered by twin Volvo 440hp or optional 480hp with IPS pod propulsion, these last engines pushing speed up to 32 knots in light load.  I do think that Princess here missed the chance in fitting the larger Volvo 550hp or 600hp engines pushing speeds to around the mid thirties, and more important having a bigger block pushing a fifteen meter sixteen ton plus sports yacht.  The main competition from Fairline and Azimut are both offered with this bigger set up.

New Model: Mulder Favorite 2200

Marrying the classic Mulder Favorite lines with a modern twist, the 22.5-metre all-aluminium Favorite 2200 has been developed with unique specifications which work perfectly to offer exceptional owner-operated explorations in style and comfort. The accommodation on board the Favorite 2200 can be found across three generous staterooms. Her airy, light-filled master cabin comes complete with a desk, ample storage space, and a spacious ensuite bathroom with cupboards and a walk-in shower. Two additional guest staterooms are located aft, both of which include a Pullman bed. As for her styling, Miulder likes to work closely with the vessel’s owners in order to achieve a look which is both contemporary and totally unique, matching the requirements and quirks he likes. The Mulder Favorite 2200 is a true Dutch product, with naval architecture from Vripack Naval Architects and both interior and exterior design by Guido de Groot. Primarily designed as a spacious yacht for all the family to enjoy, the main saloon comes complete with a large seating area and a cosy dining space with a round seat opposite the dashboard. In addition, her generous onboard volumes allow for distinctive interior layouts on both the upper and lower decks. Crafted by Mulder with relaxation in mind, guests looking for a space to kick back and unwind are spoilt for choice. On the main deck, guests can enjoy spending time in a thoughtfully-laid out dining area complete with two large couches. A fully-stocked outdoor bar is located on the aft deck, and illuminated stairs lead up to the flybridge where another extensive dining area can be found. Below deck, another relaxation space can be found, complete with a couch, television and desk. More practical matters are also well taken care of by the Favorite 2200, thanks to her exceptionally large laundry room and spacious U-shaped galley which comes equipped with all the latest appliances. Clever use of storage space is a consistent theme on board the Favorite 2200 and continues below the lower saloon, where a generous storage area of twenty square metres can be found, perfect for storing cool drinks, foods and other perishables. Of course, it would be remiss not to make mention of the Favorite 2200’s flybridge. Its clever design is integrated in such a way that it disappears partially into the superstructure, meaning that the sleek lines of the profile remain intact. As an added bonus, it is possible to control the yacht from either the inside or from the flybridge. Both areas feature the most up-to-date equipment, comfortable seating and a couch portside so that co-captains can enjoy cruising alongside. A feeling of spaciousness can be found throughout the yacht, with all guest cabins boasting a ceiling height of two metres. Guests keen to stay connected with the outdoors can make use of the sunbathing area located on the foredeck. Naturally, however comfortable the yacht might be, there will be times when those on board are keen to explore further and get their pulses racing on the water. Here too, the Mulder Favorite 2200 does not disappoint. An easily-accessible tender garage is located in the stern of the yacht which houses a Williams 395 Sportjet tender, a jet ski and four bicycles. For ease of entering and leaving the water, the aft swim platform comes equipped with an automatic swimming ladder which can be electrically operated by means of a radio remote control or with a smartphone app. As is typical for Mulder yachts, performance is at the top of the list, with an efficient, fast displacement round bilged hull shape is powered by twin Volvo 1000hp engines. The Favorite 2200 quietly and comfortably reaches a top speed of 22 knots, with a cruising speed of seventeen. Alongside her excellent fuel economy and top-level sailing characteristics, those on board can also enjoy a genuinely comfortable cruising experience, thanks to the high quality noise insulation which can be found throughout the yacht. Finally, as is becoming increasingly important for the owners the Favorite 2200 also hits the spot for those looking to traverse further afield, and has an incredible range of 2,250 nautical miles at a speed of 10 knots.

Private Boat Shows 2022

Covid and its Omicron variant hit again hard in the end of 2021 and the Dusseldorf boat show 2022, following the spiralling cases in Europe got cancelled again for the second consecutive year.  It was again a hard 2022 Winter for the Boot, what is the biggest interior boat show on planet Earth.

Seeing all this some boating companies choose to do a private showing of sorts.  Sunseeker for example did a private webinar launch for its new 65 Predator model.  While Princess did a private exclusive event at its factory in Plymouth, also presenting the new V50 and X80, along with six other models to selected clients.

Private boat shows are always an advantage, in that a client is seeing only your product.  True to all this they are not new.  Some of the big brands have been doing private boat shows since some years. Azimut-Benetti Group has been doing its Yachting Gala event since 2007 always held in the beginning of the Summer season, and always presenting a novelty in this private show.  Ferretti Group makes its Wonderful Event at the Monaco Yacht club just a weekend before the boat show season opens up in Cannes, which also shows all the premiers which a week later will appear at the Plaisance.  US Viking also does its VIP Preview show at the end of January a couple of weeks before the Miami boat show kicks in.
