Sport Cruiser Ends Beached near Venice, Italy

An eleven meters sport cruiser titled m/y Putea with two persons onboard ended beached at Cavalino-Treporti to the South East of Venice at 17:45 of Monday 21 July.  The sport cruiser called a Mayday first after it lost power in rough seas, and then arriving at about three hundred meters from the beach dropped anchor.  In the meantime the Port Captaincy of Jesolo responded to the Mayday, with the B111 rescue rib and the CP 883 boat, rescued the two boaters.  After this the Guardia Costiera was trying to tow the boat out of danger with the assistance of the m/v Tofi tug boat, an operation which was not a success also because the sport cruiser dragged anchor and ended beached.  With the sport cruiser beached, the port captaincy later decided to tow up the boat out of harms way with two excavators, in order to avoid further damage and also the possibility of pollution.
