Project: Solaris Power Lobster 78

Solaris entered the power segment in 2019 with a bang, presenting two models and an interesting plan ahead of a five model line up from fourteen up to 26 meters.  After the launch of the 55, and 48 Open models respectively, Solaris now is presenting details for its second large project, the Lobster 78.  The Solaris Power Lobster 78 is as the name says inspired to the Down East boat, but beside the sweeping sheer line, and flared bow, this is a flybridge motor yacht in essence and substance.  Offering a four cabin lower deck interior the Lobster 78 will feature an interesting living area with an opening balcony to port side.  A galley will be located in the central area of the main deck, with opposite the eight person dinette.  The Lobster 78 by the first layout designs will also feature an option for an internal stair case from the saloon to the flybridge.  Norberto Ferretti was always keen on this feature so often forgotten today, and in the past he actually offered this in nearly all his flybridge models even those sub fifteen meters.  The Solaris Power Lobster 78 in the renderings looks to be powered by a triple engine set up with what looks Volvo's IPS pod propulsion.

New Model: Spirit P70

Spirit Yachts has launched its largest modern classic motor yacht, the Spirit P70, outside its waterside yard in Ipswich, Suffolk. The P70 was designed by Spirit Yachts for an experienced motor yacht customer who requested an owner-driven yacht capable of cruising one thousand nautical miles at an average of 18 knots across the North Sea without having to refuel. As with all Spirit yachts, the P70 has been completely customized to suit the owner’s itinerary and criteria. Constructed using Sapele ring frames to which Douglas fir longitudinal strips were bonded, the P70 build followed the same core processes of Spirit’s sailing yacht hulls. Once the initial structure was complete, diagonal layers of kaya wood planking were laid down, sanded and vacuum infused with a thin layer of epoxy resin. This lightweight method of construction means that at 24 tonnes the P70 is almost half the weight of a similar size fiberglass counterpart. Twin Man 800hp engines will generate a cruising speed of 18 knots and a maximum of 25 knots.  Layout the P70 offers a flybridge with two double Stidd helm seats and additional seating for six guests. The wheelhouse sits midships on the main deck and has double and single Stidd seats located in front of the navigational equipment and engine controls. An additional raised sofa is to port, with a chart table and stowage to starboard. A few steps down and forward of the wheelhouse is the main saloon, complete with a ‘rise and fall’ TV, a bar and panoramic views from the forward windows.  The lower deck houses the accommodation and living area. Stairs from the main saloon lead down to a forward ensuite owner’s cabin, complete with a bath, and an ensuite single cabin, which doubles up as an office.  A separate stair case down from the wheelhouse provides access to a single day head and the open plan dining saloon and galley. The saloon dining table has a U-shaped port side sofa, with additional seating to starboard, wine storage and a TV. The well-equipped galley includes an American style fridge-freezer with built in ice-maker, below floor chest fridge, dishwasher, twin sinks, four burner induction hob, a fan oven and a microwave. Aft of the dining area are two twin guest cabins, which share a head and shower.

New Model: Palm Beach PB70

Palm Beach Motor Yachts has launched the PB70, a flying-bridge traditional yacht that further fulfills the down under builder's mission to create impeccably built, performance-oriented yachts that raise the bar in the industry. The Palm Beach 70 builds on the PB 65, taking up the mantle of flagship of the fleet, and backing it up with cruising comfort and efficiency. The Palm Beach 70 is built on a semi-displacement warped-hull design that has less resistance to plane more easily. The hull shape is designed to keep the bow in the water eliminating the hump in the speed curve that is typically associated with deep or modified-V hull shapes.  Instead, the Palm Beach 70 is designed to go through the water, rather than wasting energy to get on top of it. The resulting hull has the added benefits of a shallow draft and additional buoyancy aft.  Matched to a pair of Volvo 1000hp engines with IPS pod drives, the PB70 is expected to achieve a 32 knots cruise and a top speed of 38 knots. Hull #1 that has just undergone commissioning is using the same Volvo engines but with line shaft propulsion, and performed pleasingly. The shaft drives delivered a comfortable 24 knots cruise at 55% load, using 181 liter per hour between both engines giving an impressive range of 793 nautical miles at fast cruise.  But a yacht is more than a hull passing through the water, and the PB70 on-board comforts are also an achievement. The Palm Beach 70 has a welcoming saloon with a helm station forward and a galley opposite. The galley has a U-shaped counter to allow bracing points for meal preparation underway. The saloon has a pair of large L-shaped settees in each aft quarter, with a dining table serving the port settee. The entire saloon benefits from large windows and the warm glow of golden teak. The aft deck has a transom settee with dining table flanked with access to the generous teak swim platform.  An open flying bridge welcomes the skipper and companions to the excitement of open-air cruising, with all-around views and sight lines for navigating. The upper deck is right-sized to optimize the comfort of a stable hull with everything above the shear line constructed with infused carbon fiber to enhance a low vertical center of gravity.  The fore-deck features a distinctive bow cockpit, with the unparalleled experience of the yacht’s performance, in a recessed seating area far forward. This special detail hearkens back to the glory days of commuter yachts and must be experienced first-hand.  Below decks, the PB70 features a three-stateroom accommodation layout. An amidships master is situated to port with wide pocket doors opening onto the passageway, opening up the space when an owner couple is aboard alone. A spacious hanging locker provides stowage for extended cruising. A generous private head is forward with double sinks and a glass-enclosed shower. Two overhead hatches provide the head with improved ventilation and natural light. Opposite the master is an utility room, with laundry facilities.  The VIP stateroom in the bow features a queen center line berth. The third guest stateroom is to starboard aft and  has twin berths. The third head compartment does double duty as a day-head, with an additional door to the passageway.

New Model: Solaris Power Lobster 55

This new Solaris Power 55 may just be in the news for having a high end semi-production Italian sailing boat builder producing a motor boat, but the reality is much more to that, as the person behind Solaris entry into power boating is none the less then Norberto Ferretti.  Norberto Ferretti who apart founding the company with his name in 1967 and in 1997 embraces the road to become by the start of the new millennium one of the largest groups in the motor boating sector, and definitely the most diverse in names, quality and styles on offer.  The story of Solaris Power in reality starts back in 2008, when Giuseppe Giulani founds a motor boat building facility.  For those that don't know Giuliani is founder of Grand Soleil who he started in 1974, and in 1999 buys Dufour selling all this package to an American investment company in 2006.  In 2011 Giuliani buys Solaris yachts and this has been another success story for the Italian entrepreneur multiplying sales and revenue by five as up to today.  One of the strengths of Norberto Ferretti has always been to create solid groups working on his projects, and in Soloris Power 55 what is a traditional inspired lobster boat motor yacht, we see this in full effect.  The Solaris Power 55 is designed by Brunello Acampora responsible for the hull design and the lines.  The Solaris Power 55 offers two main deck choices differing for galley up or not layout, and five lower deck options.  The lower deck options offer two cabins up to the four cabins layout choices with an owners suite always at midships.  Power choices for the Solaris Power 55 come from twin Volvo 600hp as standard or optional 725hp engines with IPS pod drives, which for the first time we see Norberto embrace.  Solaris Power is a solid project and in the press conference launch Norberto announced it will become a full range in a two year time frame, and will span from 48 up to 88 feet.  It is also worth to note that is not the first time that Norberto was involved in a traditional lobster boat inspired design, and this is was what he did with the Mochi brand back in 2001 when he brought the brand back in 2003 with the Dolphin line.

New Model: Palm Beach GT 50 Express

While developing its next model, Palm Beach identified a void in the refined high-performance marketplace and the stunning new GT50 was born. The design philosophy was to create a visually elegant traditional inspired cruiser capable of forty plus knots, with an economic cruise speed in the mid thirties range, and all in a yacht that was simple to operate and easy to own.  The first Palm Beach GT50 Express made its debut at the Newport International Boat Show.  Initial sea trials of the GT 50 Express hit Palm Beach precise target top-speed projection of 42 knots and a cruising speed of 35 knots with a pair 600hp Volvo engines with IPS pod drives. Moreover, at 35 knots the fuel consumption was only 151 liters per hour.  At 25 knots the GT50 sipped a measly 90 liters per hour. These impressive figures make the Palm Beach GT50 Express one of the most efficient yachts available today.  The GT Series incorporates Palm Beach’s unique hull design that results in less resistance to achieve plane while keeping the bow in the water. Each yacht slices through the water and avoids wasting energy to get up on top of the water.  A hyper-focus on lightweight, strong construction helps to ensure the GT50’s efficiency. The hull is a fully infused vinylester cored e-glass construction that is complemented by a fully infused, full carbon fiber deck and superstructure. The deck and bulkheads are structurally bonded to the hull for increased strength and rigidity, forming a semi-monolithic shell that produces a far stronger result.  Another specific goal of the GT50 is to embrace simplicity and ensure owners are spending more time on the water.  Palm Beach gave significant attention to the GT50 Express outdoor spaces in order to comfortably accommodate large groups of guests while underway. Two L-shaped settees in the cockpit flank a transom door to the large teak swim platform. The helm deck is ideally suited for fresco dining or lounging while underway, with an L-shaped settee and a straight settee. The Express model, features a large opening sunroof and Palm Beach’s customary side and aft opening windows provide an open-air atmosphere for an incredible on-the-water experience.  An additional refrigerator and an ice-maker in the cockpit complement the full-service galley below. Twin helm seats serve the carbon fiber helm station, and the single-piece windscreen creates an unobstructed line of sight that is more like a high-performance car than a yacht. Side decks are designed to seamlessly join the cockpit to allow for easy access forward. Below, the attention to detail continues with contemporary finishes blended into a timeless elegance. Timber options include wenge, teak or ash. Broad selections of designer double-stitched fabrics are wrapped around a spacious forward master stateroom, huge head with shower, large galley and a queen-sized berth aft. Engine access is below the cockpit. Palm Beach GT series is off to a flying start with the Open version of the GT 50 finalizing production and set to launch in January 2019 at the Dusseldorf boat show, while production is currently underway for the GT60 that will make its debut in September of 2019.

Founded in 2011 as an independent company and making a short stint alone, Belize which today makes part of Riviera, presents its new flagship, the 66 Sedan model.  Set to debut in the coming Fort Lauderdale 2018 boat show, the Belize 66 Sedan is an interesting mix of traditional looks and latest interior comforts.  The Belize has a lot of space for its 21 meters overall length, thanks mostly to aft located engines and IPS pod drives.  The interior layout is offered in eight lower deck layout choices from the standard four double cabins, to three double cabins, and an optional crew cabin located at midships between the engine room and midships owners stateroom.  In all the layouts what does not change is the owners full beam midships stateroom, and the forward VIP cabin position.  But the owner stateroom is full of options, from a large shower head located further astern in replacement of the utility room or crew cabin, office choice in replacement of the fourth cabin, or a shower head again in replacement of cabin four.  The main deck of the Belize 66 Sedan offers a modern layout with an astern galley, L-shaped sofa which can be used both as relaxing settee or a dinette.  The helm station is central located and features driver and companion settee. Project: Lynx 19m Commuter

Lynx Yachts from the Netherlands announce a collaboration with Zurn Yacht Design from the USA for a new 19m Commuter project.  Doug Zurn has defined a new style of big, fun, and fast traditional yacht that has links to the past but runs like tomorrow.  This fast, distinctive boat developed for the Dutch shipyard, Lynx Yachts has distinctive traditional looks and will be custom build, built of aluminum, and is designed as a versatile tender to a much larger yacht. Both Lynx and Zurn though advise that your version may perfectly serve a function once familiar, as a quick and traffic-free means to commute to work or pleasure. Many aspects of the design are quintessential Zurn, from the hard-chine medium Vee hull shape with seventeen degrees dead-rise aft, to the purposeful look of the superstructure which appears almost military. Of course the boldest element, although practical is the aggressive reverse sheer. Besides insuring second, and even third looks, this distribution of volume insures a commodious bow inside, with features to enhance seaworthiness and dryness too. The lowered aft cockpit eases entry, and subtly encourages more sybaritic pleasures like sunbathing, swimming, or just relaxing with a drink from the bar.  The first Lynx 19m Commuter is laid out to accommodate two crew forward. This cabin with twin V-shaped berths is isolated from the main entertainment salon by the unusually commodious galley.  The living room styled main cabin has a spacious en-suite head with private shower compartment. The furniture quickly and easily converts to a double bed, and so for practical purposes it’s entirely possible for two couples to cruise, their cabins very private from each other. On the other hand, Doug Zurn anticipated this yacht will host many a party, and so he calculated things like widened passages, airy drop-windows, clear Lexan stern doors, and many other little wizardry from the architectural world, so as to host up to eighteen guests.  At present it is anticipated that Lynx Yachts has planned to build the Lynx 19m Commuter in aluminum metal. The design has a look that complements its construction, and the extremely interesting shape doesn’t require varnished wood adornment, in fact too much of that would be gilding an already stylish traditional yacht. Coated head to toe in Awlgrip, which was designed from day one specifically to adorn aluminum, the Lynx 19m Commuter boat will be just as durable as it is dutiful.  The Lynx 19m Commuter is powered by twin Caterpillar 1900hp diesels residing beneath the sun lounges well aft, and silenced with vibration insulated boxes.  The 19m Commuter is expected to reach speeds up to 45 knots cruise at 38 and deliver a range up to five hundred nautical miles from a 6015 liters fuel capacity.

Project: Palm Beach GT50 Express

While developing its next model, Palm Beach identified a void in the refined high-performance marketplace and the new GT50 project was started. The design philosophy was to create a visually elegant traditional yacht which is still inspired to Down East lobster lines and capable of 40-plus knots, with an economic cruise speed in the mid thirty knots range, and a yacht that was simple to operate and easy to own. The first Palm Beach GT50 Express is scheduled to make its debut in September at the Newport International Boat Show. Initial sea trials hit the company’s precise target top-speed projection of 42 knots and a cruising speed of 35 knots with a pair 600hp and Volvo IPS 800 forward looking pod drives. Moreover, at 35 knots cruise the fuel consumption will be about 150 liters per hour, with 25 knots projections for only 90 liters per hour. These impressive figures make the Palm Beach GT50 a very efficient yacht. The GT Series incorporates Palm Beach’s unique hull design that results in less resistance to achieve plane while keeping the bow in the water. A hyper-focus on lightweight, strong construction helps to ensure the GT50’s efficiency. The hull is a fully infused vinylester cored e-glass construction that is complemented by a fully infused, 100% carbon fiber deck and superstructure. The deck and bulkheads are structurally bonded to the hull for increased strength and rigidity, forming a semi-monococque shell that produces a far stronger result. Palm Beach gave significant attention to the GT50’s outdoor spaces in order to comfortably accommodate large groups of guests while underway. Two L-shaped settees in the cockpit flank a transom door to the large teak swim platform. The helm deck is ideally suited for al-fresco dining or lounging while underway, with an L-shaped settee and a straight settee. The Palm Beach GT50 Express will feature a large opening sunroof and the customary side and aft opening windows provide an open-air atmosphere for an incredible on-the-water experience. After the Newport debut, the GT50 will attend the Norwalk, Annapolis and Fort. Lauderdale boat shows. The GT50 will not be a solo model but a full range for Palm Beach with the down under boat builder working on a GT60 with performance projections up to fifty knots and set to debut in September of 2019, and also a GT70.

Project: Palm Beach PB70 Flybridge

Palm Beach Motor Yacht is continuing to add to its series of impeccably built, performance oriented yachts with the introduction of the new 70. Construction is well underway on the company’s new flagship for a scheduled completion at the end of 2018, with the first two hulls sold. The Palm Beach 70 builds on the highly popular 65, while offering additional volume in the amidships master stateroom and spacious crew accommodations.  Like all Palm Beach models, the Palm Beach 70 is built on a semi-displacement warped-hull design that produces less resistance to achieve planing mode due to the warped shape keeping the bow in the water.  This eliminates any “hump” in the speed curve that is typically associated with deep or modified-V hull shapes. Instead, a Palm Beach is designed to go through the water and avoid wasting energy to get up on top of the water.  This design also affords a shallow draft and additional buoyancy aft. With a draft of just over one meter with Volvo IPS pods, and of 1.5 meter  with straight shafts, this 21 meter traditional yacht is ready to explore off the beaten path. The vessel is estimated to cruise at 33 knots when paired with the standard twin Volvo 1000hp engines, and a top speed of 38 knots. The Palm Beach 70 is available as either an express model or with an optional flybridge. The tender is easily stowed and deployed from the garage underneath the cockpit. From here, access to the teak swim platform for docking and various water activities is seamless through the port and starboard transom doors. The Palm Beach 70’s layout features entertainment spaces in both the expansive cockpit and salon, with enhanced continuity between them due to the large electric windows in the aft bulkhead. Dual cockpit settees are designed for comfortable seating underway or at rest. The transom settee provides the perfect spot for an early breakfast before the day’s adventures. Although the best seat on the 70 to enjoy your surroundings may just be the bow cockpit. This special feature was conceived as a place to thrust yourself into escape and enjoy the peace and solitude of boating while underway or on the hook.  The concept of the Palm Beach 70 Flybridge is centered around allowing for customization of the interior layout, with one of the first hulls featuring four staterooms and four heads.

Project: Zeelander Z55 Corniche

Zeelander has aspiring plans for the year 2018.  The shipyard’s expertise is today extending far beyond sixteen meter yachts and this is now the time to unveil a new exciting model, the lovely Zeelander Z55 is about to get a “topless” sister, the Corniche variant.  Zeelander Yachts named her after the enchanting seaside road that runs from Saint Jean Cap Ferrat in France to Monaco.  The all-new Zeelander Z55 Corniche adds cabriolet flair on top of the other unbeatable features from the hard top standard Z55.  Zeelaner has not given much information about the Z55 Corniche but being it based on the standard Z55 it should offer a similar two spacious cabins lower deck plan, with living on the main deck. Engines on the standard hard top Z55 are standard Volvo 725hp, optical 800hp, 900hp, and 1000hp units being available.  Propulsion for all engines is Volvo dual propeller forward looking IPS pod drives.

Improve-it = Vicem 58 Classic

The Vicem 58 Classic is without a doubt one of the Turkish shipyard’s most successful models. Presented in 2010 for the first time, the 58 Classic is back in a new 2018 edition, and is to be available also with a flybridge version.  The 2018 version maintains however some of the characteristics that have made her a best seller: solid cold molding construction, incredible interior volumes that feature different levels and three cabins, and a hull form that guarantees long distance cruising in complete safety.  For the Vicem 58 Classic the Turkish yard choose twin Volvo 725hp engines with in-line transmissions which gives top speeds of 29 knots and an excellent cruising speed of 25 knots.
