Improve-it = Riva Iseo

In the magical year of its 180th anniversary, packed with events and new developments, Riva harnesses sustainability to heritage in its first full electric runabout. As the venue for presenting El-Iseo, the brand’s first electric prototype, it would have been unthinkable not to choose Monaco’s magnificent Yacht Club, where Riva has always been at home and where environmental sensibility is both an imperative and a guiding value. The occasion was Ferretti Group’s glittering Private Preview, an event keenly awaited by owners and friends to sneak a peek at the Group’s new models. El-Iseo is the full electric version of the much-loved Iseo, the versatile and seductively modern looking 27-foot runabout whose sophisticated spirit lives on in the hull, deck, style and colours of the new boat. El-Iseo is powered by a Parker GVM310 full electric engine. Retaining a traditional stern drive propulsion system, El-Iseo has an engine supplied by Parker Hannifin, a leading US motion and control technology multinational, that offers unprecedented performance in terms of speed and acceleration. With a power output of 250kW and 300kW peak, the Parker GVM310 gives the Riva prototype a cruising speed of 25 knots and a self-limited top speed of forty knots, with an acceleration curve significantly steeper than that of a similarly sized boat powered by an internal combustion engine. El-Iseo is a high performer in terms of range too, delivering up to ten hours navigation in economy mode, which makes this prototype a unique combination of ultra-high performance and maximum sustainability. Rounding out her innovation and sustainability credentials, El-Iseo has a lithium battery pack supplied by Podium Advanced Technologies, a leading innovator and specialist in batteries, automotive design and motorsport, here working for the first time in the world of yachting. Specially developed for this project, the batteries in El-Iseo have a capacity of 150 kWh and are configured in two independent blocks located between the engine and the stern seating. Integration of onboard systems, such as transmission, throttles and onboard control systems in general, including management of driving and battery charging modes, has once again been assigned to innovation leader and Ferretti Group partner Xenta. On boarding El-Iseo, the boat’s two souls are immediately apparent. There are the unmistakable finishes, colours and detailing typical of the boats that made the brand world famous, but equalling eye-catching is the helm station with its fully digital, touchscreen dashboard designed to mimic the analogue displays of past boats. Even the naming of the three drive modes; Allegro, Andante and Adagio, the tempos of classical music, alludes to the tradition that has inspired all Riva boats. El-Iseo is the perfect expression of Riva’s essence: on one hand, deep respect for the tradition of a brand that has helped to write the history of Italian boatbuilding and, on the other, that constant drive towards perfection and ongoing research into innovation using the latest technologies.

Improve-it = Tornado 38

In the fall of 2022 Tornado launched its latest improved 38 model.  This latest Tornado 38 is powered by twin FPT 450hp with line shaft propulsion.  Other shown improvements to the 38 where the new glazed windows on the hull side which replaced the traditional port hole windows.  An iconic model the 38 was launched by Tornado in 1985, inspired not little from the Magnum 38 from the sixties and seventies and produced in over five hundred units over the years in four variants; Classic/Sport, Flush Deck, Sedan, and the Cruising version.  The popular first two versions signified a different cockpit layout, with the Sedan launched in mid nineties being the rare hardtop version, and the Cruising from 2010 offering a more spacious lower deck and a revised cockpit layout.  A T-Tender 38 project presented in 2018 never materialized.  Today the Tornado 38 is simply called by its size with the model being similar in layout and cockpit to the Flush Deck version.  A Tornado 38 with shafts is not completely new, as the Italian builder build a few of these on order back in the eighties and nineties.  Going into its fiftieth birthday in 2025, it will be interesting to see if Tornado will do something special to celebrate its forever classic 38.

Project: Delta 48 Coupe

Ever since Delta Powerboats was introduced in Sweden in 2003, the name has been associated with efficient hydrodynamics, authentic craftsmanship and advanced technology integrations. The new Delta 48 Coupé is no exception, rather the ambition to capture the very essence of sleek, versatile and energy efficient sports cruiser made of carbon fibre the Swedish name has build its reputation on. As the latest result of the Lar Modin and Mannerfelt design partnership, the 48 benefits from the experience of previous projects and combines features from both the Open and Coupé series.  The Delta 48 Coupe will feature generous deck arrangements allowing guests to enjoy multiple exterior lounges and sun beds or seek shelter within an enclosed saloon with panoramic all around views. Sliding aft and side doors blur the boundaries between the inner and outer decks and due to the large electrical roof top the 48 easily adapts to changing weather. Below deck the interior accommodates six guests across three cabins where the owner occupies a forward master stateroom with generous storage and an en-suite bathroom.  Delta 48 Coupé features an all new twin stepped-bottom, designed to reduce friction, deliver speed and a consistent plane with less pitching. In the construction, only advanced carbon fibre composite materials are used, making the hull strong, stiff and impact resistant and keeps the weight of the vessel low, which further reduces engine load and  fuel consumption. The Delta 48 Couple is to be powered with either twin Volvo 440hp inboard sterndrives diesels, and or Mercury 600hp outboards petrol gas.  Estimated top speeds are up to 45 knots and a cruise of 32 giving only three litres per nautical mile from the twin Volvo diesels.

New Model: Invictus TT420

Invictus starts the 2023 year by presenting its second in size new TT420 model at the Dusseldorf boat show.  An announced model at the fall of 2022, the TT420 comes from Christian Grande, the designer who has thus far designed all Invictus, and is all about offering the TT460 qualities in a smaller package.  It is in reality a big competitor to the current Invictus flagship in exterior spaces, offering a similar layout, with the difference being felt much more inside in the accommodation area below decks.  Like the TT460 the TT420 is all about exterior living which spans the whole twelve meters length of this sport cruiser, and is easy to navigate thanks to the walk around deck, split only by one step forward, and the option of two port and starboard drop down balconies which extend the space. The main deck welcomes you aft with a central sun-pad which also features a garage for a tender over two meters in size underneath, further forward  is a dinette with  opposite looking settees and space for six to eight persons, followed by a huge galley wet-bar, and then the triple settee helm station. To fore-deck is a V-shaped sun-pad.  Down below the Invictus offers four berths accommodation, in two single berths at midships and a V-shaped dinette which scissor closes and becomes a double berth.  In between the cabins is a spacious head to starboard, with a separate shower box looking aft.  The Invictus TT420 is powered by Volvo 320hp up 440hp in stern drive propulsion.

New Model: Coronet 35 Suncruiser

The iconic Danish Coronet is back!  I fully agree with this statement since in my young years I grew up surrounded by Coronets most notably the top selling 21 Daycruiser model, which had hull designed by Walt Walters and Jim Wynn, the designers famous for creating the Don Aronow hulls as used on the Cigarette-Donzi-Magnum.  The Coronet 21 sold a staggering 1406 units in the Daycruiser version in a twelve year production run, plus another 505 hulls in the three other; Playmate, Sunrunner, and Explororer II versions which used the same hull.  Not known to many today is that Coronet was the name in putting the deep Vee hull on the map and attention in Northern Europe.  Unlike 2008, when Coronet made a small comeback with the 290 Sport and Weekend models, this new 35 Suncruiser is respectful to the Danish builder past and its most legendary 21 Daycruiser model.  Welcome back Coronet!

New Model: Tornado 45s

In 2022 and during the Venice boat show held in May, Tornado presented the new 45s model.  An evolution of the 45 model launched in 1995 to a design of Tom Fexas, and which subsequently two years later won the Venice-Montecarlo 1997 in her class.  The 45 has  been a long success for Tornado thanks to its economic to run standard stern drive propulsion and clean timeless Fexas design.  Recognizable by the higher wrap around extended further aft windshield the new Tornado 45s is also redesigned in the cockpit deck.  Now becoming more comfortable and functional with a passageway to starboard and the aft sun-pad and C-shaped dinette resting to port side.  The old Tornado 45 had an island sun-pad aft wrapped around in a fiberglass moulding which used the full beam, a forward facing bench settee and helm station co-pilot settees forward. The cabin of the Tornado 45s has also been reworked and now features two cabins; an aft cabin sleeping two, and a master double berth forward.  The new Tornado 45s is powered by Volvo 380hp with stern drive propulsion as standard delivering a top speed up to forty knots.  Other engine options include larger 440hp Volvo with the same stern drive set up, or FPT 570hp with surface drives which give an estimated fifty knots top speed.

Project: Jeanneau DB/37

After the entrance of the DB/43 in 2022 Jeanneau acts quick to extend the line and present the project for a two meter smaller DB/37 set to be presented in a months time come end January at the 2023 Dusseldorf boat show.  Like the bigger 43 foot sister the DB/37 is a project of Camillo Garroni for lines and interior with Michael Peters doing naval architecture.  A centre console walk around sport cruiser the DB/37 can cater for multiple uses from a party-boat to a day-cruiser or that of a weekender.  At this stage beside the above rendering information for the DB/37 is very limited, but these designs can show that the small DB like the bigger sister will offer opening aft bulk heads extending aft deck space at anchor.  So expect very similarities to the bigger DB/43 in a smaller package.

Project: Windy 40 Camira RS

Dynamic like never before, this is the look of the Windy 40 Camira RS project designed by Hans Jorgen Johnsen and Design Unlimited for the interior, making a clear statement for individual sportiness and luxury.  The helmsman position has been redesigned and modernised, but still keeping the Windy style in its ergonomics and sporty helms. The new T-top with sunroof adds another dimension for owners to use this up to fifty knots fast sport cruiser.  The Windy Camira 40 RS comes will an all new interior layout in two luxurious versions; offered in a single aft cabin and or twin aft cabin version.  The Windy 40 Camira RS will be powered by twin Volvo 440hp diesel with stern drive propulsion, and or twin Yamaha 425hp or triple Yamaha 300hp outboards in petrol gas.

Project: Invictus TT420

Invictus completes its range with the project of TT420, filling the gap between the TT460 flagship and GT370 models, and currently under going finishing touches and preparing itself to make its world début at the upcoming Dusseldorf 2023 boat show, set to be held in Düsseldorf January 2023.  Designed as the other Invictus by Christian Grande the essential lines of this new twelve meter are distinctive of Invictus hulls, combining style and attention to performance, with the profile incorporating the stylistic features of its bigger TT460 sister a winner of the Design Innovation Award in 2020, and characterised by the elegant features of the windshield, which blend seamlessly into the carbon hardtop and further streamline the powerful mass of this model. The integral glass windshield with wipers, in particular, represents an unusual solution on this size of boat and protects during navigation. At the same time, a front opening system ensures an effective air circulation when at anchor.  The deck, characterised along its entire length by a comfortable perimeter walkway protected by high bulwarks, has a large bow sundeck that can be converted into a chaise longue, transforming it into a romantic and enchanting corner ideal for comfortably enjoying the cruise or sipping a quiet aperitif. Amidships, thanks to the folding tables, the spacious dinette can be converted into a large space for relaxation, sheltered by the hard top. At the same height, the sides can be equipped, optionally, with two collapsible side terraces, thus increasing the living space on board, but, above all, offering a perception of openness towards the outside that is best appreciated during lunch and when relaxing: a solution that breaks down the ideal barrier dividing the boat from the surrounding environment.  The aft swim platform is teak-covered, as is the whole deck. The shipyard offers the option of equipping it with a hydraulic handling device to facilitate boarding and managing the tender plus a garage large enough to accommodate a 2.10-metre tender, are features rarely found on this category of sport cruisers.  Internally, Christian Grande has opted for an open space solution. Upon entering, the spacious living area is in full display, with U-shaped rotating sofas, which can surprisingly transform into a comfortable double bed. Aft is a cabin with separate beds. The generous bulwarks have made it possible to obtain remarkable internal heights, which have been used for a large bathroom with separate shower.  The first unit of the new TT420 will be in the shipyard's identifying Personal White colour. But this new TT420, like its larger TT460, will later be available in the special Vogue White colour, which represents the ability of Invictus to always deliver a unique interpretation of even a “simple” colour as white. The Invictus TT420 is to be powered by twin Volvo 320hp or 440hp with stern drive propulsion.

New Model: Salpa 35 Avantgarde

Back in 2010 Salpa was among the first European Italian boat builders to get into the centre console sport cruiser revolution, entered with the 30 GT model which is still in production today.  Twelve years later Salpa is back again with a new centre console sport cruiser, a different model to the GT series also offered in a 40 model with this new Avantgarde 35.  Forward thinking as its name suggests the new Salpa 35 Avantgarde is a walk around centre console sport cruiser with modern looking lines and the reverse shear bow which steals the attention outside.  Considering its exterior spaces and its size the Avantgarde 35 is also spacious below decks offering accommodation for four, in a forward double berth and twin berths at midships, with shower head and mini galley in between the sleeping areas.  But the forward thinking of the Salpa 35 Avantgarde continues in the power and propulsion options for the standard twin Yamaha or Mercury outboards from 250 up to 350hp engines to the single FNM 350hp diesel with line shaft with innovative option for a hybrid with 33hp electric motor set up.

New Model: Sessa C47

Sessa present the new C47, a fully enclosed hard top coupe which shares hull and most of the lines with the upcoming Fly 47 model with a slightly different upper structure.  Unlike some other sport cruisers of the segment who share flybridge sport cruiser platforms the C47 still looks sleek in its hard-top version, and it actually looks like it was made this way. Rightly so Sessa calls the C47 dynamic sport which is totally correct, especially when one notes its practical side from the yacht like walk around deck, to its three cabins interior, and aft galley layout on the main deck.  The Sessa C47 is standard powered by twin Volvo 380hp, or optional 440hp and or 480hp engines with IPS pod propulsion.
