Project: Nordhavn 56

Much of the innovation and design development of Nordhavn comes from customer suggestions and many new concepts are worked on. One such design currently being worked on is particularly interesting as it presents a significant variation on the standard layout themes and offers some very unique features. All Nordhavns are designed to cross oceans but this all new design places an even greater emphasis on ocean crossing capability while maximizing interior accommodations that are well suited for offshore conditions as well as dockside living. At 56 feet and with a displacement of 57 tons this new Nordhavn is ready to tackle the toughest and longest ocean passages.  Standard propulsion will include the 4.5 liter John Deere engines in a twin configuration and a fuel capacity of 8800 liters. This package combined with an efficient hull design will allow for a very comfortable transoceanic range and will retain the ability to maintain near normal cruising speed and positive direction control even if one of the two engines fail. Props are protected with skegs and attached rudders.

Improve-it = Nordhavn N43

The next generation of Nordhavn 43 is here and going into completion for the fall 2014. Hull 41 is a cut above all other N43s that have gone before her, with a brand new interior layout and styling akin to her luxurious bigger sisters. This boat is currently being built to a prior specification with Stone colored Ultra-leather fabric on the cushions and a glorious grey-veined white granite counter top in the galley. A darker blue-black granite was chosen for the heads. The layout of this new 43 is sure to be a crowd pleaser with an enhanced walk-through accommodations area that flows from the saloon and down a few steps into a hallway. The new configuration allows for a bigger wheelhouse with enough space to add an additional fridge or freezer and chart table.

Project: Nordhavn 59 Coastal Pilot

Nordhavn got a cult following serving a niche boating market of the adventurous explorer few since the first 46 arrived on the scene 25 years ago. But Nordhavn’s manufacturer, Pacific Asian Enterprises thinks it’s come up with a new model that will lead the brand down a more mainstream path by introducing the 59 Coastal Pilot project. Continuously striving to offer revolutionary designs, PAE is excited about this newest yacht shaking up its product line. What makes the new 59 Coastal Pilot so revolutionary is that rather than targeting world explorers, it caters to the needs of many different segments. She is a continuation of Nordhavn’s Coastal Pilot series and may quite possibly be one of the most versatile cruising boats to arrive on the scene. Powered by twin Cummins 715hp and having a semi-displacement hull the 59 Coastal Pilot is designed for modest top speeds in the 20 knots range and offers an efficient and sea kindly ride at lower cruising speeds. PAE’s vice president Jim Leishman calls the 59 Coastal Pilot the “transitional” and feels it could be hugely popular with current Nordhavn owners who are winding down their world cruising and considering a new boat with lesser time and effort restraints. At the same time, the Nordhavn 59 Coastal Pilot could prove to be the ultimate jump off boat for anyone looking to get into the long range cruising game. The 59’s design features a CE Category A unlimited offshore rating, insuring the sea-keeping and strength capabilities to take on the most serious of coastal cruises up to a thousand miles. Versatility and capability aside, the 59 Coastal Pilot living arrangements is really what’s going to give her mass appeal. This Explorer Yacht is available in a two or three cabins configuration, either of which is highlighted by a massive owner’s cabin. The raised deck of the 59 Coastal Pilot can also be left open or enclosed with Isinglass and can be equipped with air-conditioning or heat systems, depending on owners needs. As with all Nordhavns, the best hardwoods, stone, and top of the line appliances will be incorporated into the build.

New Model: Nordhavn N120

The Nordhavn 120 hull number one has undergone successful ocean trials and departed the South Coast Marine factory in Xiamen, China on July 12th. The yacht will be delivered by a crew of staff from Pacific Asian Enterprises, Inc. including Nordhavn’s vice president, Jim Leishman, and Chief of Design, Jeff Leishman. One port of call was scheduled for Hong Kong on July 16th. From there the crossing will take approximately 25 days with an arrival to Vancouver in mid-August. Due to logistics, the sheer mass of the vessel as well as economic factors, it’s been concluded that N120 hull number one will be delivered on her own bottom. With a non-stop range from China to Vancouver running at displacement speed, the decision to “drive” her home was made thoughtfully, however, confidently.  After nearly five years from concept to construction, P.A.E. is thrilled and greatly anticipates the impending unveiling of the Nordhavn 120 at the boat shows in the fall of 2013. Our architecture and design team, together with the craftsmen at South Coast, engineering contractors, the phenomenal interior design staff at Destry Darr and countless vendors have cultivated a world class yacht. At the surface, the N120 is a naval engineering feat; as capable as it is luxurious. But the yacht also proves to be a symbol of P.A.E., persevering at a time when the superyacht market is in a virtual tailspin.

Project: Nordhavn 52 SC

Nordhavn is excited to offer a new optional layout for its full-displacement 52 footer, by showing the project of 52 AC, these two letters meaning for aft cabin which features a configuration that puts the saloon, galley and wheelhouse all on one level. This customer-driven option meets the needs of clients who are looking for modern, open-concept living that allows the watch stander to mingle with guests. The Nordhavn 52 AC requires a different deck from the traditional standard 52, which features a segregated pilothouse. The current 52 also has its accommodations more forward with obviously differentiated master suite and guest suite. Instead, the N52 AC concept offers two VIP staterooms with en-suite heads.  Another major difference between the two full-displacement Nordhavn 52s will be in outdoor living space. Whereas the flybridge on the current standard 52 is split from the boat deck, the plans for the 52 AC call for a huge combination of  flybridge and boat deck, which offers cruisers plenty of space for sunbathing when the tender is launched. Meanwhile on the lower deck, the Nordhavn 52 AC cockpit will also include a separate lower “fishing” aft area. The engine room will also get a boost in space, complete with a handy work bench.  The N52 AC will have a propulsion option of single or twin engines, and will offer the same fuel capacity as the Nordhavn 47 of just over 5500 liters.

Project: Nordhavn 52 Coastal Pilot

Noting the continued demand for the unique 35 Coastal Pilot, Nordhavn has been quietly working on a new bigger 52 feet of the same series. Designed as an elegant, highly capable coastal cruiser, the new 52 Coastal Pilot will offer semi-displacement cruising speed and efficiency along with the safety and capability sought after by the serious cruiser. With a cruising speed between eight and 15 knots and a range in excess of one thousand nautical miles, aside from major ocean crossings, this rugged new Nordhavn can fulfill the most ambitious of cruising dreams. P.A.E. is extremely excited about the new design and in February received its first build commitment. Based upon the company’s vast experience, this new live aboard design will be operated primarily by a cruising couple featuring an exceptionally large and livable owners cabin with abundant drawers and hanging lockers along with plenty of floor space, a vanity, opening ports and hatches and a spacious head and shower compartment. A wonderful guest stateroom will also be provided, well separated from the owner’s suite with natural lighting and ventilation, hanging locker and drawer space along with added general purpose locker space for spare parts and gear. A separate head with stall shower will service the guest accommodations but also double as a convenient day head.  The classic sedan configuration was selected with a beautiful salon/cockpit interface and the belief that a separated wheelhouse is not necessary on a coastal cruiser where overnight operations are not the norm. This style layout benefits from unrestricted 360 degree visibility, a flowing and spacious salon/galley and easy and comfortable access to staterooms and heads. A utility room forward of the saloon will include a separate washer and dryer along with an added freezer and locker space. Access to the full height engine room will be provided through the lazarette, the guest stateroom room or a hatch in the main saloon. Twin Cummins 480hp engines are provided which will allow a sensible cruising speed of 15 knots and below. For greater speed desires Nordhavn will also offer higher output engines available for the 52 Coastal Cruiser.

Nordhavn New Web Site

Nordhavn famous for its line of explorer yachts and cruisers presents its new virtual web show room.  Nordhavn was actually founded in 1988, with its first model the 46 launching in 1989.  But the company history started in 1973 when Jim Leishman and Dan Streech meet in a brokerage firm and start building the foundations for what in time will become first the Pacific Asian Enterprises up to what will be the North Harbor what is English translation of Nordhavn.  Interesting stories come to the launch of the first Nordhavn 46 is that Cruising World magazine declined its advertisements, and builder Ta Shiing from Taiwan decline to build it.  In fact it will be Tsai Wan Sheu in Taiwan who will build it. For the second Nordhavn model the 62 the American Asian company will have to wait two years launched in the dark period of boating known as the American 10% Luxury Tax.  A 50 in 1995, and a 56MS a year later where the next Nordhavn models to come after the luxury tax was ended.  2007 marked an important year for Nordhavn with the company building its first super 24 meters plus yacht 86 model, and a year later to this opening its new building facility located in Xiamen China.  So far 2008 was the best annual result for Nordhavn with eighty boats sold during the recession ended year.  Nordhavn current line up offers seventeen models from the entry level 40 to the still in project 120 flagship.  The line also offers two alternative models, the 56 MS, and 75 EYF.  The latest Nordhavn model is the recently launched 63. New Model: Nordhavn 63

The new Nordhavn 63 is yet another iteration of the proven hull form of the 55 model. Due to its performance and interior layout capabilities, the 55 has fast become one of the most popular, and one of the most tested Nordhavn models, of which both the the 60 and this new 63 derive from.  The new 63 is actually an aft wheelhouse version of the 60 and its extended cockpit and boat deck. Looks-wise, however, the new model retains the same salty feel that popularized the Nordhavn 62. For those who love the 62 but have a width restriction at their slip, the Nordhavn 63 may be the perfect choice with its reduced beam compared to the old model. One of P.A.E.’s greatest qualities is the ability of Chief of Design, Jeff Leishman, and his engineering staff to continually conceive, design and introduce exciting new models.  While the 63 shares the same hull as the 55/60 designs, an entire new deck and engine room mold have been created for it, providing increased interior volume and added amenities.  This gives for example a fixed crew cabin in replacement of an utility room on the smaller models, and a certerline guest stateroom with four large view portholes.  The new Nordhavn 63 is powered by John Deere 330hp with a projected range of 3,000 nautical miles.

Project: Nordhavn 78

Nordhavn follow up their two latest innovative designs, the 56 Motorsailer and the 75 Expedition Yachtfisher, Pacific Asian Enterprises Inc, has once again stretched the boundaries of their trawler line with the introduction of the 78 project, a long-range, contemporary-styled yacht. The Nordhavn 78 will serve to fulfill the needs of the class of boater who wants the proven ocean crossing capabilities of a Nordhavn combined with the sleek lines comprised by typical European style yachts. Key to the design is the emphasis Chief Designer Jeff Leishman has placed on outdoor living, starting with the flybridge. The 78 flybridge will feature a Jacuzzi, wetbar, barbecue and a large open deck area perfect for entertaining. Meanwhile, the foredeck a typical lounging hotspot on most European boats has been designated to be an ideal outdoor chilling space. The cockpit of the 78 has been opened up, too, further enhancing entertaining possibilities. Another draw of the new 78 is that it better segregates the crew from the owners and their guests. Like the entire Nordhavn range with the exception of the 120, the 78 is intended to be operated without a captain. However, Leishman has designed engine room access in the transom so that employed crew can enter the area without impacting company on board. The Nordhavn 78 will come equipped with twin Cummins 425hp engines, have ocean crossing capabilities with a range of three thousand plus of miles and superior fuel efficiency. The interior will feature an updated, modern design aesthetic that includes sumptuous owners’ accommodations and two superb guest rooms all with ensuite heads; crew quarters and off-watch quarters. Although the lines of the N78 will have a European flair, Nordhavn feels the yacht will appeal to international and American markets alike. The project is currently underway with the first hull scheduled to complete in early 2011.

New Model: Nordhavn 68 FPH

With plenty of living room, a long list of comfort and convenience features and the range and size to cross oceans, the Nordhavn 64/68 series has proven a popular trawler size, bridging the gap between the 55 and the larger 76. Built on the same extended hull as the aft pilothouse Nordhavn 68, the new FPH forward pilothouse version retains the same interior layout as the similar looking but smaller 64, but adds four feet of length to the aft cockpit, increasing the outdoor living and playing space to 191 square feet. An additional benefit one that’s always appreciated, is also a larger lazarette. Compared to the Nordhavn 64, the 68 forward pilothouse enjoys the advantage of a slight increase in cruising efficiency because of its longer waterline. Compared with the 68 aft pilothouse sibling, the forward pilothouse version has a slightly larger fuel capacity of plus 99 litres to the original version.

New Model: Nordhavn 52

The new Nordhavn 52 is based on the 47 model, with P.A.E.’s designers actually extending it by five feet. The Nordhavn 52, is an evolution of its smaller sister, with more interior space and longer offshore capability to the 47. The new 52 differs itself from the 47 with three central design modifications, each of which combines to make a sleeker and slightly more efficient boat. The most significant of these changes is a cockpit extension, which opens up the rear of the boat as well as elongates the yacht’s lines. Other benefits is of added waterline length which is not limited simply to aesthetics. The design team was also able to work an extra approximate 800 litres of fuel into the capacity of the boat’s tanks and in turn, bump up the range. To coincide with the elongated cockpit, the upper level boat deck was lengthened by two feet, serving a dual purpose: not only does this offset the cockpit extension, it enables a bigger tender to be carried on top. Completing the enhanced look is the re-configuration of the flybridge. A purely cosmetic change with no features added or altered, but the newly-styled flybridge is now more integral with the boat deck and pilothouse roof. Despite these sublte differences and improvements, the new 52 follows the rest of the Nordhavn line, in a robust construction, superior level of fit and finish, and an ability to deliver her owners anywhere they wish to travel in safety, comfort and luxury.

New Model: Nordhavn 60

The Nordhavn 60, is the newest yacht in this renowned long range explorer yachts builder fleet, and is ready to meet owners’ demands for increased space, comfort and luxury. The Nordhavn 60 is based on the proven 55 platform, which is one of the best selling yachts in the fleet. The 60 gives owners an additional 5 feet of space in the cockpit and lazarette, allowing more room for activities like diving, fishing and dockside parties with family and friends. The longer cockpit also allows the boat deck to be extended for a larger tender and more room for sea kayaks, jet skis and other toys. An additional benefit is a speed gain of about a third of a knot and an improvement in range thanks to the longer waterline. Like the popular 55, the 60 is available in single or twin-engine configurations along with an optional additional fuel tank for additional range. Inside you can expect the craftsmanship and attention to detail to be flawless, a cornerstone of Nordhavn’s promise of comfort and luxury afloat. Finally, the extra length of the 60 extends her lines to give the yacht a sleeker big-boat look. The new 60 is all about more: room, luxury and long-distance cruising enjoyment.

Project: Nordhavn 63

The Nordhavn 63 is yet another development of one of this builders most proven hull forms, the 55. Due to its performance and interior layout capabilities, the 55 has fast become one of the most popular models from Nordhavn, which later was also developed to the new waited 60 foot version to meet owners demands for increased space. This new 63 is actually an aft wheelhouse version of the 60 and its extended cockpit and boat deck. Looks wise, however, the new model retains the same salty feel that popularized the 62. Nordhavn Chief of Design, Jeff Leishman, and his engineering staff continually conceive, design and introduce exciting new models and while the 63 shares the same hull as the 55 and 60, an entire new deck and engine room mold have been created for it, providing increased interior volume and added amenities. The 63 has some important layout changes thanks to the increased length like the center line guest stateroom also featuring four large opening view port lights, and the crew quarters located forward of the engine room cabin. Furnish for the new 63 will be the same paneled cherry wood that was featured on hull number one of the new Expedition Yachtfisher. Power is by the John Deere 6081AFM 330 HP with a ZF ZFW320 transmission with a 4 to 1 reduction gear. The Nordhavn 63 has a projected fuel capacity of 8515 litres which will give a range of about 3,000 NM.

Projects: Nordhavn 120, Nordhavn 75 Expedition Yachtfisher, Nordhavn 60, Nordhavn 52

A vision of optimum design, advanced engineering and spacious, luxurious life onboard, the new Nordhavn 120 beckons those who consider the world their playground and the ocean, a home. Beautiful and sleek yet big and brawny, the N120 gracefully carries the owners and up to eight guests, indulging them with spaciousness and richness. With four decks, four king-sized guest suites and a tantalizing owners’ suite, she may rightly be considered a personal luxury ocean liner. Using only the finest hardwoods and finishes, each interior can be customized to her owners’ wishes. And Nordhavn will work closely with a client’s personal designer ensuring the exact degree of elegance desired will be satisfied. But the real beauty of the N120 is that she is built to handle the seas as well as she handles her guests. Naval Architect Jeff Leishman has made her waterline length a sweetspot in terms of wave period, and in doing so, makes long passages a very comfortable experience. Encompassing the highest degrees of talent, experience and imagination any production manufacturer can offer, the N120 represents Nordhavn’s commitment to the future while continuing to stay true to our roots. She’ll be constructed at South Coast Marine which also builds several of our smaller models. The N120 is a world-class, ABS-certified yacht destined to be the choice of a new generation of travelers expecting the best and finding their expectations exceeded.

At its maximum cruising speed of 13.5 knots, its estimated range is 1,237 nautical miles. Top speed is an estimated 14.3 knots. One of the most popular Nordhavns to be launched, the 55 appealed to those looking for a yacht possessing the most modern conveniences and enhanced living arrangements while still maintaining superior seakeeping qualities. One of our “third generation” models in which aesthetics was given as much consideration as function, the Nordhavn 55 quickly became a market favorite. For some, however, the added height of the 55 – while a proven design plus that ensures superior stability by allowing the engine, fuel tanks and water tanks to be positioned very low – kept the look decidedly more trawler-like and slightly out of proportion. To combat this allusion, PAE’s designers simply lengthened the decks by five feet. The result is the Nordhavn 60, a very sleek-looking modern passagemaker with the same fabulous interior features and hull form that make extended cruising an absolute pleasure. Of course, because length was added without measurable increases in weight, the N60 is slightly more efficient than the 55; she'll pick up about a third of a knot in speed. Another added bonus comes from the longer deck's carrying capacity which allows for a bigger shore boat to be stored. Aside from that, the only other change to be found is the optional switch to larger porthole windows in the owner’s stateroom. Nordhavn fans appear to like the new look of the N60. After the design was first made available to Nordhavn 55 owners, eight contracts were changed to the bigger boat The Nordhavn 47 is known as being a very large 47-foot boat and now P.A.E.’s designers have actually made it bigger by extending it by five feet. The Nordhavn 52, a slight evolution of its smaller sister, is quickly gaining popularity amongst buyers who love the interior space and offshore capability of the 47 but are looking for an updated look to their boat. The new N52 differs itself from the 47 with three central design modifications, each of which combines to make a sleeker and slightly more efficient boat. The most significant of these changes is a cockpit extension, which opens up the rear of the boat as well as elongates the yacht’s lines. But the benefits of added waterline length aren’t limited simply to aesthetics. The design team was able to work an extra (approximate) 200 gallons of fuel into the capacity of the boat’s tanks and in turn, bump up the range. Completing the enhanced look is the re-configuration of the flybridge. A purely cosmetic change (no features have been added or altered), the newly-styled flybridge is now more integral with the boat deck and pilothouse roof. Despite these differences, the N52 is exactly like the 47, and the rest of the Nordhavn line, in her robust construction, superior level of fit and finish, and an ability to deliver her owners anywhere they wish to travel in safety, comfort and luxury.

A laundry and utility room is also provided. The luxurious and functional interior is finished with fine hardwoods, beautiful moldings and raised panels combined with stone floors, granite counter tops, lighting and fixtures. Construction of the new 86 is conventional fiberglass, built to extremely heavy scantlings using beautiful constructed female molds for the entire hull and deck forming a flawless structure, with a highly detailed gelcoated finish, receiving a complete Awlgrip paint job prior to assembly. Designed and built to the latest international standards, each new Nordhavn 86 can be built to ABS certification with +A1 Yachting Service rating for the hull and AMS rating for machinery and installation as an option. Twin MTU Series 60 engines rated at 600 hp each spinning 48-inch propellers allow a transatlantic cruising speed of 12 knots. With over 26,000 litres of fuel aboard and throttled back to the 10 knot range, this new design can run roughly 4,000 miles before refueling. The advanced high-pressure, common rail, electronically injected engines are fitted with wet exhaust, commercial rated transmissions with large reduction gears and offer efficiency and reliability never before possible. An extensive list of standard machinery details gives little to add to the Nordhavn 86 except electronics and tenders.
