Project: Galeon 820 Skydeck

Polish builder Galeon manages to cross over the eighty feet barrier with its latest third generation line project, the 820 Skydeck.  This is for sure Galeon's and its stable British architect Tony Castro most important project to date which continues the Strazyn company direction into larger sizes.  The Galeon 820 bases itself on the hull shape of the 780 Crystal, but above the waterline we see a reinvented model with a sports profile and featuring the invisible flybridge up top, or as Galeon likes to call it Skydeck.  Rest assured though that underwater shape is the only similarity with the current Galeon flagship, as the 820 Skydeck offers a completely new looks and layout.  Some striking details in the layout are the large aft cockpit deck which uses about 25% of the length, a separate galley with independent staircase located to port side, and three large cabins lower deck plan.  A nice detail in all the cabins is the feature of a beauty chair desk in all rooms, not only in the master stateroom as it is usually found in most yachts this size.  A single crew cabin is located to aft. The 820 Skydeck is to be powered by engine power from twin 1500 up to 1900hp, with hull number one apparently being ordered with two MAN 1800.

New Model: American Custom Yachts ACY90

American Custom Yachts new ACY90 flagship, finally touches the water, and this one has been a most waited model not only from the Florida based builder, but from sportfishing boat fans all over the world.  With other production builders catching the bigger bug, it seems sportfish builders have to see how to make space for producing larger, and most importantly faster yachts, as this is what the high end customer is asking in recent times.  The ACY 90 with its length is definitely American Custom Yachts most important build to date, and the company created a really low profile sweet looking sportfish, which from a distance might allude to what its size really is. Construction wise the ACY90 continues the fashion of an advanced custom build, here in jig method cold moulded way, mixed with kevlar and fiberglass, and featuring PVC core use for the deck areas. This model which have been a long time coming is also a testament to American Custom Yachts pedigree of launching on average a new build every two years, showing the Florida company is not following any numbers of sort but just to deliver a special Sportfish yacht to a lucky owner who is looking for the best.  Titled C'est La Vie, ACY 90 features a lower deck which offers a six cabin five head accommodation plan, and a single level saloon with uninterrupted views outside.  A stand out feature in the ACY90 is also its saloon having an aft facing galley, located at the aft end, and serving the cockpit deck. Sportfishing fans will surely be impressed for the super large aft cockpit deck which shows the game nature of the ACY90 complemented by some luxurious comforts as the very stately looking raised central mezzanine.  The ACY90 is powered by twin MTU 4613hp engines, which gave top end speeds up to 48 knots in light load, and about four nautical miles less in loaded conditions.

Project: Jeanneau 38 Leader

Jeanneau presents the project of a new 38 Leader.  Many would think that this new Jeanneau is an extension of the 10 Leader, but in reality this is a completely new model from the French builder.  Designed by Garroni with a hull shape coming from one of the most respected powerboat keel designers the American Michael Peters, the 38 Leader aims to compete in this size with a high level product featuring attractive sport looks. What I definitely like in the 38 Leader is the single level cockpit, which makes this deck usage definitely more efficient.  Yes you get two steps one that is for the L-shaped lounger and another for the helm, but these do not disturb from the normal deck movement outside.  The layout of the cockpit layout is of standard format C-shaped settee, L-shaped lounger to port side, single seat helm station and a wet bar with grill to starboard. There is a also a small sun pad aft which extends at the expense of the C-shaped settee which becomes of L-shape when you do this.  Down below Jeanneau does not reinvent the wheel and again offers a traditional layout with two cabins; owners to fore, and a twin amidships with in between having saloon, galley, and shower head.  Power is standard Volvo 300hp, with optional 370 and Mercruiser 380 units all these coming with sterndrive dual propeller propulsion.

Improve-it = Hinckley 36'11'' Picnic Boat Mk.III

Hinckley is to offer IPS option on its Picnic Boat MK.III.  The previously all-jet company now offers boaters a choice; shallower sportier jets or Volvo’s popular pod drive system . For twenty years Hinckley has installed jets, and now combined with the shoal draft capabilities of the jetboats, the unfoulable nature of their appendage-free bottom and the high reliability of a system comprising just six moving parts have proven a hugely successful formula for the company’s line of 29 to 55 feet lobster boats. Boaters over the years also gravitated to Hinckley’s proprietary JetStick, now in its second generation, which made the boats simple and easy to manoeuvre. Over 850 jet propulsion boats have been launched by Hinckley.  Now Hinckley has selected the IPS 450 system as the optional drive for the Picnic Boat Mk.III which is expected to deliver a 33 knot cruise and 37 knot top end. The IPS pods will add about a thirty centimeters of draft to the boat’s standard draft. The standard, jet propelled Picnic Boat will now be powered with Yanmar 70hp twins. Cruising speed with that power is expected to be 32 knots with a top end speed of 34. Also for 2014, two trim packages will be available on the Picnic Boat. A sportier version, akin to the company’s successful Hinckley T34 launched last year, is now available.

Project: Sunseeker 55 Manhattan

Sunseeker, always in a research to redevelop itself shows us this new 55 Manhattan project which will be presented live in the coming days in Cannes and then in Southampton boat shows, a flybridge motor yacht of a long coming evolution.  This latest Sunseeker, was actually born as a 50 model more or less about a decade ago, developed to a 52 in 2007, 53 in 2010 and now finds its latest development as the 55 Manhattan.  The most noticeable difference in this new entry level of the Manhattan range is definitely the large S-shape large view side windows serving the cabins below, something which the Poole builder started on the 80 Predator over a year ago, and now seems to be extended to all models. But this is not the only difference from the 53, as the 55 features a larger flybridge extended in length, and also a redesigned interior which has a free choice when ordering new of having the galley on the lower or the main deck.

The 56 Twin Deck to start has a a full forward cabin layout, designer duties entrusted to Dutch firm Vripack, and also features Volvo IPS pod drives.  Looking on the outside the 56 Twin Deck is a bit of a hybrid from an aft cabin to a sport cruiser thanks to the raised aft deck the 56 Twin Deck offers three double cabins below with an owners room amidships and full beam layout.  A relaxing living is located on the main deck this featuring a C-shaped lounger and two sofas, all this behind the helm station to starboard. Project: Overmarine Mangusta 132

Much has been done over the past few years in terms of investments and extending the range by Overmarine Group and the new Mangusta 132 has been developed in line with these strategic choices. This yacht is the natural evolution of Mangusta 130, with a number of important differences.  The interiors and exterior of this highly versatile yacht feature a perfect combination of high performance and on-board comfort.  The new S3Np Ka.Me.Wa. Rolls Royce waterjets featuring improved efficiency have been combined with two 4600hp MTU engines. As result, this yacht can comfortably reach a speed of over 36 knots without vibrating and at very low noise levels.  Mangusta 132 has a new hull to which the hydrodynamic improvements already introduced on the 165, the current flagship from Overmarine, have been added and is fitted with zero speed gyroscopic stabilisers usable at anchor and under way. Without taking anything away from the usual racy, sporty lines of all Mangusta yachts, this new series features a generously-sized sundeck which can be used as a private area for the owner and also have a double driving position. Distribution of the interiors is the result of a careful architectural study of the volumes of the yacht, which aim to ensure maximum onboard comfort and the best, complete separation between the guest and crew areas. The layout makes it possible to have up to five guest cabins, but as with all Mangusta yachts, the Overmarine Group Design Department can offer a range of interior layouts as well as style solutions and personalised decor, thus managing to fully satisfy the taste and wishes of all owners.  Mangusta 132, a yacht in which comfort, internal and external volumes and performance merge together in perfect harmony.

Project: Mulder 48 Saloon Boat

The ‘Built by Mulder’ label invites clients and architects to create a design outside the Mulder gamma, but emphasizes the superior Mulder quality. One of the ‘Built by Mulder’ successes is the 77 feet steel motoryacht “Eleonore”, that attracted a great deal of interest at the Amsterdam in-water Boat Show in 2009. This yacht was built to a design by Werner Yacht Design, who is also the designer of the 48” Saloonboat. The Saloonboat measures 14.42 meters will be built of steel. The 48-foot boat will be fully equipped with floor heating and will have a beautiful classic interior of Sipo mahogany. Three large sliding windows on both sides of the saloon create a tremendous spacious feeling while cruising the Amsterdam channels. Powered by 88 hp Steyr installation, the Saloonboat “has to become the most beautiful saloon boat of Amsterdam”, thus the client. The 48” Saloonboat will be constructed at the yard in Voorschoten and will be delivered in March 2014.

New Model: Henriques 42 Express Hardtop

Basing itself on the popular 42 series from Henriques, the New Jersey US builder presents a new  Express Hardtop model in this line.  Interestingly the owner of hull number one of this new Henriques is on his third boat from the builder, and before this he owned a 42 Express; that is the model without the enclosed hardtop. This style of sportfishing cruisers coming to a more core builder definitely comes from what other brands have done in the last years to offer a fully enclosed three side hard-top deck allowing for a more practical use of the boat all year round. The Henriques 42 Express has its success for being one of the best sport fishing dedicated platform in its size, and with this version the builder definitely wants to capitalize more on the cruise side to owners who want to fish and cruise as possible.  Inside accommodation of the Henriques 42 is a sport fishing standard offered in an open plan layout, with a master double berth to fore, L-shaped settee, galley, and a shower head.  The exterior is typical sportfishing flavour offering a split level deck with the aft lower part fully dedicated to fishing.  Two steps up and you have the hardtop covered area which offers a large L-shaped settee, and three forward facing settees with the helm located centrally.
