The Hudson Bay 350 will have a lower deck layout with an owner's cabin with a queen bed forward, hanging lockers and extra storage. New Model: ISA Yachts Extra 76
Extra as extraordinary, the first born of the range is an explorer yacht with unique modern features. Unusual lines, smaller dimensions, an innovative concept of use: ISA Yachts Extra 76 is designed to meet the needs of those who want to get closer to the world of yachting, enjoying full contact with nature and in a spirit of full conviviality with their guests or family. Designed by Francesco Guida, the 24 meters yacht has been launched in Ancona and then delivered to her owner at the end of April. Extra 76, with her maximum beam of 6,8 meters, sets a record in the yacht segment in terms of cockpit and saloon volumes, giving her guests the chance to live in close contact with nature and creating a direct feeling with the sea both in navigation and at anchor. The big Research and Development effort has been strongly dedicated to the environment as well. Extra 76 has been designed to offer an unforgettable experience in terms of comfortable navigation, a feeling that is further enhanced in the interior spaces. On the main deck the galley is positioned to aft, with access to the dining area in the cockpit through the big central glass panel, which slides down vertically to unite the two areas. This layout is designed to encourage socializing, and also provides an alternative solution to dine indoors, in the contemporary and spacious saloon, furnished with large sofas and an extending table. Below deck, the full-beam owner’s cabin features a special entrance area for privacy sake and includes an en-suite bathroom with twin basins, a shower and a separate bath tub, as well as a convenient walk-in closet. The continuity between the bedroom and the basin area enhances the felling of comfort of the whole suite. The three guest cabins include two twins and a double VIP room forward, with the closets and shielding conveniently placed in order to perfectly insulate these spaces from the crew area. The original look expresses the distinctive character and unique personality of Extra 76: the play of contrasts on the yacht’s sides between light-colored fiberglass and dark glazing recalls at first glance the lines of a traditional sport yacht seen from a contemporary perspective. The large glazed surfaces are combined like part of a crystal sphere, and offer plenty of natural light and unprecedented room to the elegant living areas. The design of the layout grants top livability through all the areas: for instance, the exceptional cockpit/beach club of over 50 square meters, truly unique for even larger yachts, which allows guests to enjoy the contact with the sea in absolute comfort. The cockpit delivers unusual volumes, on three levels dropping down to the water. The fly deck, whose shape perfectly complements the sinuous look of Extra 76, offers a second helm station, an area for socializing with wet bar and a C-shaped sofa, and a huge sun lounging pad. It's the best area to enjoy a long cruise or to dine together, from a privileged point of view. The propulsion for ISA Yachts 76 Extra relies on two efficient Volvo 800hp engines with IPS forward looking pod propulsion that take the boat to a maximum speed of 21 knots and provide a range of over 700 nautical miles at cruising speed. Living the sea in harmony with nature also means respect for the environment. The meticulous design process focused on the development of a hull with minimum water resistance. This feature, and the big capacity of fuel tanks and generators mean that guests of Extra 76 can embark on long cruises with a view to maximum environmental sustainability. The glazed surfaces in the saloon incorporate photo-voltaic cells to generate clean power. This is used to recharge the service batteries, so that equipment like lights and appliances can be used without turning on the generators at anchor and leave the soundtrack on nature. The care taken over reducing environmental impact, low consumption and big, well-lit spaces available on board make Extra 76 an unparalleled choice for owners who want to enjoy a relaxing cruise to the full, in total harmony with the sea and attentive to 'green' solutions, in one word: eco-friendly. ISA Yachts 76 Extra premiered at the Versilia Yachting Rendez-Vous in May.

Sporty and sleek, the brand new Sunseeker 74 Sport Yacht, with 38 knot capability, boasts the latest Sunseeker design cues and sporting prowess from the new Predator 74, which launched in January this year. Depending on the owner’s wishes, the 74 Sport Yacht can be transformed into an ‘open’ yacht in warmer regions or a ‘closed’ yacht in cooler climates with an innovative cockpit door mechanism which lowers itself into the sole of the aft deck. Stepping on board owners enjoy stylish interiors and luxurious living with a considerable saloon including a sumptuous lounge and dining area plus an optional storage unit port side. Below deck there is a generous galley and three spacious en-suite cabins, comprising an aft master stateroom, starboard twin and forward VIP. The master cabin benefits from an optional walk-in wardrobe. The below deck configuration offers complete flexibility for owners with an option to have a walk-in wardrobe for the forward VIP, an extended galley arrangement complete with lounge and breakfast bar seating or an additional twin guest cabin which would allow the yacht to accommodate up to eight guests in a four cabin arrangement. Project: Sanlorenzo SL102
Sanlorenzo present the project for the new SL 102. Designed by Zuccon with Chris Bangle of BMW car design fame as technical director the SL 102 is a significant new project model because of a distinctive semi wide body main deck design. The SL 102 is also the first Sanlorenzo on which Zuccon studio has officially worked, and represents the reinterpretation to renew the shipyard’s storied planning super yacht range. The research of Chris Bangle provides the new SL 102, a super yacht that will have an innovative asymmetrical layout, where the spaces and flows of life on board will be re-defined from a different perspective. Asymmetrical in the sense that the SL 102 will feature a semi wide body design to one side, the port-side area of the main deck being fully wide body used to maximize interior space. The SL 102 will also feature various different points of view, functional settings and opportunities to perceive the sea from new and dynamic perspectives, which change constantly as you move around on board. The SL 102 will feature a couple of different layouts with the standard offering an owners stateroom on the main deck, and four guest cabins on the lower deck. The Sanlorenzo SL 102 is to be powered by twin MTU 1700hp or 1900hp with speeds up to a max 29 knots with the large engines. Sanlorenzo has plans to present other models in a similar theme with news for a 92 and a 112 in the works.

What About Those Two
In a conference held in Milan on the tenth April, the Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi was very proud of the financial results achieved in the last six years. Today the Ferretti Group is looking very positive into its future, is debt free, has a 600 million EUROS plus of total order book, and a double digit growth from 2016 to 2017.
Galassi and his team are very satisfied of the work and the results achieved, remembering that in 2012 Ferretti Group was at the brink of bankruptcy. It is been a long and difficult journey for Ferretti Group and now in the last year we are also seeing a wind of change in some of the brands with new designers replacing popular long standing names. Pazkowski has taken over from Zuccon in the Ferretti Customline range and Filippo Salvetti has replaced Zuccon for the latest project of the Ferretti Yachts 670 model set to launch this Summer 2018. Zuccon designed all Ferretti Yachts since 1990 and all Ferretti Customline since founded in 1996 till 2017 have been created by him.
In the interviews Galassi spoke about all the positives about Ferretti Group but two brands who have been rather successful in the period 2004 till 2009, Itama and Mochi have not been mentioned. Both Itama and Mochi, have an important history in the Italian nautical World; the first doing traditional open cruisers and yachts and the second was re-branded under Ferretti Group as a traditional down East lobster boat with Mediterranean amenities designed by Zuccon. Previously to this and before Ferretti Group purchased Mochi, it was Ferretti biggest competitor in the eighties and nineties for the flybridge cruiser design in sizes from eleven to twenty meters.
Since 2013 both Itama and Mochi have been left just as a name and we have seen not much novelties and investments being put into both brands since then. Mochi has not even participated in recent years important boat shows, while Itama does participate here and there as it still sells a few boats a year.
With Mochi the current problem is that the traditional modern lobster boat design is not in demand as it was in around 2005. But Mochi had a genius idea in 2008 with the explorer yacht 23m Long Range model which was the way to go for the future. It is a pity that with all the innovation and investment put into that model it seemed to stop there. When the 23m was launched I was imagining a future with a complete line up of smaller Long Range models.
Itama is on the other hand a different brand. Amati has build the brand around simple innovation. Itama's have been rather the same since the yard moved into the open sport cruiser range in 1979 when it launched the 38. which stayed in production till 2002. Itama in itself does not need much changing and the current three model format was how the brand lived for the eighties till the mid nineties. What Itama needs though is a tailor, which is what Amati was in his company. Amati tailored each boat build as a suit which fitted perfectly to his clients demands.
Do boat tailors as Mario Amati exist anymore? May be that is a question for other times.
