Micheal Fiore 1970 - 2014

A boating accident Saturday during the Shootout competition has taken the life of Michael Fiore, 44, who died the Tuesday evening of 26 August at University Hospital in Columbia after developing complications from surgery. Fiore was the throttle-man in the 42-foot catamaran Outerlimits that flipped multiple times during a run down the mile-long course about 10:30 a.m. Saturday near Captain Ron’s. He was owner of the Bristol, R.I.-based Outerlimits Offshore Powerboat Company.  Fiore and Joel Begin, the boat’s driver, were extricated from the badly damaged boat by emergency crews. Fiore was airlifted to Columbia, and Begin was taken by Lake Regional Hospital and later released.  Initial reports listed Fiore as in critical but responsive condition after the accident.  A report from the Missouri Highway Patrol after the accident says the crash was caused when the boat lost control at high speeds due to wind interference.  Frank Sciacca, general counsel of Outerlimits, released a statement saying the entire Outerlimits family is devastated by the loss of its friend and leader of the company. Fiore founded Outerlimits in 1993.

Project: Sciallino Sc 27 Ventisette

This size has always been the bread and butter of Sciallino, and now continuing its new course presents an important entry level project. Designed as all the new line by Luca Maschera the Sc 27 Ventisette follows a similar line to its larger new other 30 and 36 sisters, with traditional Ligurian Gozzo Italian fishing boat lines coupled to a planning Vee shape hull. The Sc 27 is a two cabin cruiser which sleeps three in two cabins, forward and at midships. Its living area is on the main deck, with a galley behind the helm to starboard, and a relaxing sofa to port side. For a nine meter cruiser the Sc 27 will offer some important details some typical to the traditional inspired Gozzo cruisers, as safe side decks, others not so much as the fully enclosed patio door closed cabin house on the main deck. Three engine options are available for the Sc 27, single Mercury diesel 260hp or VM 350hp, or twin 170hp again from Mercury diesel.

New Launch: Benetti 56 meter FB260

The style of Italian yacht design masters, the Benetti boatyard's technological prowess, and the owner's magic touch of the East combine to create FB260 a 56 metre yacht whose class is matched only by its outstanding performance. A yacht build of a steel hull and aluminium super structure, the 56-meter super yacht is built on a time-tested naval architecture platform with proven dependability in previous yachts. For Lady Candy, this platform was partially modified with the re-positioning of the wheelhouse on the sun deck and the associated widening of the beam. “Lady Candy” combines interior spaces worthy of a 56-metre vessel with outstanding performance, including a maximum speed of nearly 17 knots, comfort which translates into stability, and almost zero associated vibrations and noise. With naval design from Benetti together with styling from Captain Paul Brackley's Central Yacht Design Studio, the exterior lines of “Lady Candy” have a clearly contemporary feel without diminishing the timeless elegance Benetti yachts are known for. The 962-tonne vessel is majestic yet streamlined, with the five decks highlighted by a harmonious movement stemming from the contrast of the long bands of tinted windows at the upper decks against the white hull. The expert owner is from Asia and is a great enthusiast of the sea and diving. He plans to enjoy Lady Candy together with his family and friends. The owner played an active role in the design of his yacht; he had a particularly strong impact on the interior layout which was custom-designed for him by Central Yacht. For example, the owner explicitly requested that the interiors be given priority over the exteriors, creating an enormous and exciting main saloon that covers 88 squared meters of the main deck; he also had his and his daughter's cabins moved to the upper deck to maximize privacy. The owner was also directly involved in the interior styling and furnishing, which was designed by Central Yacht and the USA interior architecture firm BAMO. The interiors are simple and welcoming. Briar root wood predominates and is combined with soft colours like lilac and jade, reflecting an "international" aesthetic that unites the East and West. For example, since the owner is a diving and underwater enthusiast, the opportunity could not be passed up to locate a fully equipped beach club, complete with bar, gymnasium, steam shower, bathroom and living area right next to the swimming platform, including separate entrances for guests and crew. In terms of performance, Benetti FB260 enables sustained speeds and optimal cruising comfort. Maximum speed is approximately 17 knots, while cruising speed is 16 knots. Fuel-economy speed is 12 knots, with a range of 5,000 nautical miles.
