A 77 year old man was killed with five other boaters injured as two large classic 28 and thirty meters super yachts ended wrecked, while a 22 meter yacht also sustained damage in a storm off Cape Greco, in the Ayia Napa coast of Cyprus at around 14:30 of Saturday 29 August. The first help came from locals as Police and the Larnaca Joint Rescue Coordination Center responded to the emergency which caused injuries to five and the death of a 77 year old. The incident happened as the storm which generated heavy rain and thunderstorms across all Cyprus reached wind intensity up to Beaufort Force eleven with wave height over three meters and made havoc of two anchored yachts, ultimately wrecking them as they crashed into the rocks.
The wrecked yachts are a Versilcraft Super Challenger 92 as designed by Antonio Maggini and produced from 1986 to 1995 in 22 units see picture above, and the Camper and Nicholson 30.5 meter Petsas I which was delivered in 1938 as a World War II spy ship, and then converted to a yacht in 1986. The damaged yacht was a Fairline Squadron 74 as designed by Bernard Olesinski and produced from 2002 till 2007 in 29 units.
