The 2025 Cannes Yachting Festival has shown for the most time that it has become the boat show to beat. Boat and yacht builders like Cannes, and so do the visitors. The Cannes Yachting Festival also gives a taste of the French Riviera Cote d'Azur Summer, added with the bonus of the latest boat and yacht novelties.
European boat and yacht builders present the news in Cannes. The French go full on to Cannes but both major Italian and British boat builders have in the last decade, presented the World debuts and announce future news in Cannes, also because most of the international press is at Cannes. If modern boating is your offer, Cannes is the boat show to be. But Cannes 2025 also had a World debut from China-American powered catamaran brand Aquila who debuted the new 46 model, showing the international global vacation of the show, beyond Europe.
The Cannes expansion had a lot of help from the Italian yacht builders to grow and become the boat show of all the shows. A turn around and help to put Cannes at the top, was the fracture between UCINA which organizes Genoa and the major Italian boat builders in 2013. This fracture continued nearly all the way for the twenty ten decade, and these Italian yacht builders put Cannes as their most important boat show of the year, and also missed-out on Genoa for a few years. What used to be a warm up for Genoa became the prime boat show for novelties, including the latest new boats, but also the press conferences from all the major names, with other medium and smaller builders following suit.
Will Genoa ever manage to take its past leadership back from Cannes. It is possible, but difficult in today's globalized nautical World, even though the Genoa boat show is bigger and in some things better. The current Genoa show strongest points are entry level boats and ribs of under ten meters in length. Its main problem is traveling logistics and unlike the all tourist Cannes, Genoa has a split economy with its commercial, and industry being important as much if not more to tourism. Genoa major logistical problem also comes from its small airport, much less connected to Europe and the World then the Nice airport, which serves Cannes and is the third busiest in France and has over fourteen million of visitors a year. For comparison Genoa Airport has over one million passengers a year, and sits in 21st place as airport in Italy.
It's also to note that in recent years Cannes, Genoa, and Monaco have sort of formed an unofficial triumvirate boat show in a break of four days between them in a fortnight, and a pocket distance of less to one hundred nautical miles. With all three shows bringing something different to the other, from the super yacht specialized Monaco Yacht show, to the all around flavour of Genoa, and its still Summer feel nearly all water show of Cannes.
