Archipleago Yachts Exceeds Funding Target

Following an investment round via funding site Crowdcube, Archipelago Yachts has exceeded expectations by hitting 157% of its funding target.  The funding round went live on 22nd March and was live for 20 days. The successful funding round consisted of 174 investors, raising a total of £236,996 of a set target of £150,000. The funds will be allocated towards leveraging the company’s initial success through intensified marketing strategies and expanding its footprint in both Europe and the US.  The British offshore powercat builder informed interested investors of its aim to be carbon neutral by 2040 through its sustainable solutions of having all hybrid powered vessels, resulting in a lower carbon footprint, as well as inventing the world's first zero-carbon methanol powered vessel, the Archipelago zero.63.  This sustainable leisure vessel is the first of its kind, with an innovative propulsion system that  allows the vessel to cruise silently at speeds of up to 10 knots. For high-speed performance, the design includes a direct-injection methanol engine, enabling the boat to reach a top speed of 22 knots.  Founder of Archipelago, Dr Stephen Weatherley, had to say of the success “I am overwhelmed by the support and interest we have received throughout this funding round, and would like to thank everyone who has invested. Thanks to their support, we can confidently continue our pledge of creating a cleaner future for the marine industry through our sustainable vessels.”  The Archipelago range, designed by award-winning naval architects, Chartwell Marine, currently consists of The Archipelago 40, 47, 52 Flybridge,63 and the soon to be announced, the Archipelago 80.

Azimut-Benetti Acclaimed at Yacht Style Awards

The Yacht Style Awards were a triumph for Azimut|Benetti Group: Azimut Magellano 60 won first place in the 'Motor Yacht 18-21m’ category and Benetti’s B.Now 50M topped the ranking in ‘Superyachts 40-60m’.  Azimut|Benetti Group, the world’s leading producer of yachts over 24 metres, won two coveted first places at the Yacht Style Awards 2024 in the ‘Motor Yacht 18-21m’ and ‘Superyacht 40-60m’ categories.  The award ceremony at ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove was held the day before the official opening of the Singapore Yachting Festival. Organised by the prestigious magazine Yacht Style, a leading yachting magazine in the Asia Pacific area, the awards select the yachting industry’s top players in Asia and internationally.  The two wins are an important endorsement for Azimut|Benetti Group, which continues to grow in the Asia Pacific market, reporting rising sales that demonstrate how popular the products are with customers in this area. In Azimut’s case, turnover has increased 40% in the last four years, with the Grande Series driving sales and a strong Dealer network spread across the region ensuring premium customer service. At Benetti, the Shipyard continues to see a strong demand for the full range of yachts in the APAC region and is delighted to see that almost all of the models are sold and delivered in the region recently - including Oasis 34M, Oasis 40M, B.Yond 37M, Motopanfilo 37M and B.NOW 50 Oasis Deck®. Azimut Brings a Yacht to the Swimming Pool

Azimut Yachts participates in Milano Design Week 2024 with an immersive installation curated by AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi: a journey within the Bagni Misteriosi del Teatro Franco Parenti which culminates with an imaginative stage on which a yacht moored in the shadow of a large moon invites visitors to rediscover the gentle relationship between man and nature. It testifies that a more sustainable future is here and now.  Mooring by the Moon is an installation curated by AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi for Azimut Yachts in the setting of the Bagni Misteriosi del Teatro Franco Parenti. Architectural textures and structures are transformed into the scenographic elements of a large stage, on which an imaginative journey of beauty and technology reveals to the visitor - the protagonist - the new era inaugurated by Azimut for a gentle relationship between humans and the environment.  The Path. Once through the historic entrance of the Palazzina dei Bagni Misteriosi, the visitor is welcomed by a suspended atmosphere, in which the elements of the rooms dialogue with the installations to evoke the wonder of the natural world.  Images, sounds and scents evoke a dreamlike sea, which is discovered through the labyrinth of doors of the old changing rooms in the first room. Large sculptures, shells made with the innovative materials introduced by Azimut – discarded and regenerated fishing nets, recycled plastic (PET) and carbon – stand out like theatrical wings in the second room while, continuing the game of theatrical make-believe, the visitor climbs aboard the Seadeck 6 in a space where furnishings and materials are used to recreate the internal environment of the vessel, designed by Matteo Thun & Antonio Rodriguez.  The big moon. The route culminates outside, offering a view from a terrace suspended over the water of a landscape in which Seadeck 6 is moored, the embodiment of the route traced by Azimut to reduce CO2 emissions and energy consumption. The yacht, in fact, offers a reduction in emissions of up to 40% in an average year of use. Mirrored shingles in shiny galvanized steel form a large disk inspired by the moon, whose play of reflections emphasizes the dynamic effect of the pattern of light, evoking the lunar glow.  «The difference can and must be made here and now. Not with distant promises of a world to come or with a superficial approach to the topic of environmental sustainability. The boat in the swimming pool of the Bagni Misteriosi is the emblem of our commitment: concrete, measurable and always present," explains Giovanna Vitelli, Chair of Azimut|Benetti Group.  «The purpose of this installation is to involve visitors in the theater of life and  arouse the imagination, without which we would be just animals and nothing more. It is only with our imagination that we can see a brighter future on the horizon, much more harmonious than today's present,” says Michele De Lucchi, Founder of AMDL CIRCLE.

Silent Yachts Emerges Stronger Under New Ownership

Leading electric catamaran builder Silent-Yachts has shaken off a period of financial difficulties to emerge stronger under new ownership. With a new management team in place and access to fresh funding, there is a robust and solid growth strategy in place that covers the next five years.  New majority owner Michael Said is an American-German investor who is also a client of Silent-Yachts, with a Silent 62 3-Deck in build now. Through his acquisition vehicle Helios Yacht Investments GmbH, he has taken control of all the assets formerly belonging to Silent-Yachts, including the intellectual property behind the yachts' innovative design, and the shipyard Silent Italia in Fano.  Said ensured that funding didn't dry up last year, safeguarding 140 jobs when the previous business fell into administration. By keeping the Italian yacht building operation in Fano running, he allowed Silent-Yachts to make progress on its existing orders for the Silent 62. The first of these yachts, an outstanding three-deck version, has just been launched, with a further seven due later this year.  In addition, Silent-Yachts will launch its first 80-footer in 2025, with another one due before the end of the same year. It constitutes an exceptionally strong pipeline of orders, reflecting widespread enthusiasm for the brand and the innovative technology it has developed.  New CEO Fabrizio Iarrera, a veteran of the Italian yachting sector, has already restructured the business and helped to set it on a strong footing for the future. "Silent-Yachts is known and recognised throughout the yachting world for developing the technology to make electric catamarans a reality," he said. "There are costs associated with creating an entirely new market, and the original business fell prey to these, at a time when price inflation everywhere was spiralling out of control."  "Our yacht owners are passionate about the brand and the yacht itself, as our very strong pipeline of orders shows. For Michael Said, it was an easy decision to invest in a restructured Silent-Yachts, and many of our other owners are just as keen. We know we have a job to do to rebuild the brand's reputation, but we've been thrilled by the positive reception we've had from those who have already put in orders."  Iarrera will run day-to-day operations with support from Michael Said and a board of shareholders. Steve Bell has agreed to serve as vice chairman of this board and together, they will oversee the new business and assist the new management team to achieve growth. Bell is a veteran manager from manufacturing businesses across Britain and Germany, as well as a qualified trainer for sailing and motor yachts up to 24m.  The priority is to finish the yachts under construction and to deliver them to Silent-Yachts’ clients. Then the team will reshuffle its future production schedule to offer additional build slots for 2025 and 2026. All owners of a Silent Yacht will enjoy the same service and warranty, continuing to enjoy full support from the brand’s worldwide network.  Iarrera finished: “At our yard in Fano, we are fully focused on streamlining our operations. The team that we have built is committed to showing the world that we are delivering yachts and that our excellent R&D team can stay ahead of our competitors. We are certain that there is a bright future for Silent-Yachts."

Key yachting personalities from around the globe gathered for a night of celebration at the prestigious Yacht Style Awards 2024, held at the Constellation Ballroom at ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove in Singapore. During the gala Francis Lapp, Founder and President of Sunreef Yachts was awarded the title of Sustainability Leader in Asia.  Francis Lapp's visionary leadership and commitment to promoting a cleaner yachting experience have been instrumental in driving Sunreef Yachts towards a more sustainable future.  The Yacht Style Awards, organized by Yacht Style magazine, celebrate excellence in innovation, design, build quality, sustainability, and owner experience within the luxury yachting sector, with a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region.  This recognition underscores Sunreef Yachts' unwavering commitment to sustainability and innovation, reaffirming its position as a leader in the luxury yachting industry.

Sunreef Uses Recycled Pet Bottles to Build Yachts

Sunreef is a comprehensive approach to yachting, aiming to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability across all aspects of the experience. As part of this initiative, the shipyard‘s research and development team is integrating recycled PET bottles into the production process for the composite superstructures of the yachts.  This innovative use of structural foam, composed of up to 100% recycled PET materials, represents a significant stride toward more eco-conscious yacht construction.  The recycled thermoplastic core offers numerous benefits, including high resistance to process temperatures, exceptional chemical resistance, strong adhesion, and mechanical properties. Crucially, it is fully recyclable, aligning with Sunreef Yachts Eco’s commitment to sustainability. Significantly, the construction of an 80-foot sailing catamaran requires approximately 2.4 tons of this foam core, equivalent to recycling around 600,000 PET bottles.  Following the natural Fiber Composite, this represents another milestone in the shipyard’s ongoing efforts to redefine the standards of environmentally responsible yacht construction.

Sunreef Joins Major Life Cycle Assessment Project

Sunreef Yachts Eco has recently joined a major Life Cycle Assessment project managed by the European Boating Industry. The initiative aims at developing professional tools enabling the accurate assessment of the environmental footprint of yachts. The project considers the environmental impact of a boat throughout its lifespan. This includes material extraction, construction, use, maintenance, and disposal.  As a leader in sustainable yachting technologies Sunreef Yachts Eco actively participates in the work group, sharing the company’s unique point of view on responsible yachting.  We are proud to contribute to the development of this important LCA tool for the boating industry. The yachting world needs a holistic approach to this matter, and we are happy to share our knowledge and expertise.  Under the umbrella of the European Boating Industry (EBI), key market players are jointly tackling the sustainability challenge and bringing the industry ahead of the curve. A group of leading recreational boat manufacturers and industry associations is coming together to develop the first-ever environmental footprint methodology for recreational boats under 24 meters. It will be backed up by a database and assessment tool to allow small and large manufacturers to access the green transition.  With extensive know-how in the domain of energy efficiency, sustainable boatbuilding, design and finish, Sunreef Yachts Eco embarks on this project with an aim to contribute to a positive change in the yachting world.

Sunreef Appoints New Zealand Dealer

Luxury marine dealer Ray White Marine group has just been appointed as Sunreef Yachts' exclusive distributor in New Zealand (adding to their existing Australian territory). Ray White Marine has a strong history of sales with overseas Sunreef Yachts with multiple vessels already based in New Zealand and Australia as well as the cutting-edge 60 Sunreef Power Eco announced to be sold by the group recently.  Following the appointment, Francis Lapp, CEO of Sunreef Yachts, commented: I am proud to broaden and deepen our cooperation with Ray White Marine and we look forward to an even more successful relationship. We needed experienced partners in the Australian and New Zealand region to support the entire customer experience. Our new shipyard in the United Arab Emirates, which opens during the 2024 Dubai Boat Show, provides a simple destination for customers to come and view our yachts, facilities, and design office where we can start their journey to becoming a Sunreef owner.  This was a natural step for us with Sunreef Yachts to cover both Australia and New Zealand. Auckland and the Viaduct is a huge catamaran hub for Sunreef and a gateway to the South Pacific. Our team in New Zealand led by Alistair White and James Dazzel will do very well with the brand in New Zealand, says Brock Rodwell CEO of Ray White Marine group.  The partnership will promote the brand from both the North and South Island office locations, with the flagship Auckland office to field all new build inquiries.

Van Der Valk Management Buyout

Having been at the helm of the shipyard that bears his name since its foundation in 1967, Wim van der Valk marked his 79th birthday on 18 April by officially confirming his retirement. A management buyout of Van der Valk’s shares in the yard has taken place, financially supported by a family of experienced yacht owners who have previously commissioned three custom superyachts from Van der Valk Shipyard; LeVen, EDGE and Lady Lene. With a full order book stretching well into 2026, including the largest superyacht built to date, confidence in the future is high.  Van der Valk has firmly established itself in recent years as one of the only yards in the world with the capacity and flexibility to build all-custom superyachts up to 45 metres in length. It has over 9000 m² of state-of-the-art facilities at its location in Waalwijk (NL), opening its seventh construction hall last November. The management team of Enrico Theuns, Bram Kooltjes and Yoeri Bijker can leverage on decades of combined experience in the high-end yachting industry and will continue to enjoy the ongoing support of President Emeritus Wim van der Valk as an advisor to the board.  “The significant capital investment will enable Van der Valk to continue growing our unique niche in the market for bespoke yachts between 25 and 45 metres,” comments head of sales Yoeri Bijker. “The new primary shareholders fully understand our yard’s ethos having built several award-winning yachts with us and are committed to ensuring Van der Valk retains its Dutch structure, heritage and quality. We have a solid financial future as an independent entity with various options available for further expansion. Wim’s unrivalled legacy could not be in safer hands.”

Van Der Valk Nominated for Super Yacht Award

When Van Der Valk launched the all-custom explorer Pilot last year they knew that this blend of highly innovative owner requirements was a very special boat indeed. The Van der Valk craftsmen worked tirelessly with exterior designer Cor D. Rover, interior designers André Fu and Cor D. Rover and the naval architects from Ginton Naval Architects and Diana Yacht Design to create a 34-metre masterpiece for a client who knew exactly what he wished to achieve.  Combining astonishing looks with an exceptional volume for a 34-metre yacht of 295 gross tonnes, her color palette of castle tan and stark white heightens the sense of sophistication. And, as the icing on the cake for all this work, the Pilot has now been nominated for the 2024 World Superyacht Awards in the ‘Semi-Displacement or Planing Motor Yachts, 30m to 34.9m’ category.  She faces stiff competition from five other fine vessels but Van der Valk are already very much looking forward to the WSA ceremony in early May in Venice when the independent judges panel of current and former superyacht owners will announce the winner.  Van der Valk is honored to be on quite a roll when it comes to winning awards in recent times. Blue Jeans took home a prestigious trophy at last year’s World Superyachts Awards in Istanbul as you can read here. Lady Lene won a major prize for her interior at the 2023 BOAT Design & Innovation Awards, and last September saw the EDGE 65 triumph at the World Yacht Trophies in Cannes as Best Custom motoryacht.

Viking Celebrates Sixty Years

The Viking Yacht Company has been building a better boat every day for 60 years. Founded by brothers Bill and Bob Healey on April 1, 1964, Viking climbed the marine industry mountain and has been at its peak for decades now, unwilling to relinquish the throne as the industry’s best boatbuilder.  “Early on, my father drove home the point that Viking was about building a better boat every day, and Uncle Bob insisted that we like the view from the top of the mountain and plan to stay there,” says Bill’s son, Pat Healey, Viking President and CEO. “On our 60th anniversary, the Co-founders’ statements are stronger than ever.”  “We started Viking with 17 barren acres and a winter storage shed,” said Pat Healey. Above: The original Viking building in New Gretna, New Jersey.  Today’s plant stretches for nearly a quarter of a mile, with five manufacturing lines where yachts from 38 to 90 feet are built. Between the New Gretna and Mullica facilities, we have about 1 million square feet of manufacturing space.  Viking has always had a leg up on the competition because it’s owned by a family of boatbuilders that calls the shots. The role of the Healey family in the business has never been more prevalent. Bob Healey Sr.’s son, Bob Jr., along with Pat and his children are leading the company into its seventh decade.  From vintage wooden cruising yachts to today’s flagships the Viking 90 and Valhalla 55, Viking history has been filled with many milestone models. Each new model improves upon its predecessor as our design and engineering team refines and modifies to create the next great Viking.  The people of the Viking Yacht Company are its heart and soul. We’ve been blessed to have many great people as part of our family for over 60 years. Thank you to the best boatbuilders in the world! Above left: Bill Healey always made it a point to shake hands with boatbuilders, thanking them for their hard work at the end of the day. Above right: Bob Healey Sr. will always be remembered as the driving force that led to the repeal of the devastating Luxury Tax of the early 1990s.  Started in the early 1980s, the demonstrator program plays a crucial role in our success. The leaders of our company fish the major tournaments, learning about the product so it can be refined and improved. The program’s longevity and success are unrivaled in the marine industry.   With the Viking Marine Group (VMG), we can offer owners a diverse range of products and the services and support to make their boating and fishing experience the absolute best it can be. VMG consists of Viking Yachts, Valhalla Boatworks, Princess Yachts America, Valhalla Boat Sales, Atlantic Marine Electronics, the Viking Yacht Service Center, Palm Beach Towers and the Viking Yachting Center.

Viking Co-Founder Inducted in Hall of Fame

Bill Healey, a Co-founder of the Viking Yacht Company who guided the boatbuilder to the top of the industry, was recently inducted into the Marine Trades Association of New Jersey Hall of Fame.  “On behalf of my father, I’d like to thank the Marine Trades Association of New Jersey for this honor,” said Bill’s son, Pat Healey, President and CEO of Viking. “New Jersey is truly a great state, and the Healey family is proud to have founded and successfully run our boatbuilding business here for more than 60 years. Through good times and bad, we’ve stayed the course by building a better boat every day. That is my father’s mantra – and it still guides us today. We look forward to a bright future and continued growth right here in New Jersey.”  Viking was founded in 1964 by Bill and Bob Healey, who was previously inducted into the MTA/NJ Hall of Fame. Bill and Bob are also in the National Marine Manufacturers Association Hall of Fame. For 49 years, Bill was the President and CEO. Bill’s leadership and vision built one of the most recognizable and respected brands in the marine industry. For nearly 50 years at the helm, Bill was intimately involved with the design, engineering, manufacturing and service of over 5,000 Vikings delivered since the brand’s launch.  On any given day Bill could be seen riding his bicycle around the plant to check on his boatbuilders in the various stages of manufacturing. His contributions to the industry are numerous. He played a crucial role in leading the industry through the repeal of the Luxury Tax, which severely impacted the marine industry and the families it supported. His efforts in that campaign benefited countless marine businesses and also helped maintain domestic boat building.  Viking has always had a leg up on the competition because it’s owned by a family of boatbuilders that calls the shots. And the people of Viking are its lifeblood. A former marine known for his work ethic and discipline, Bill always made it a point to shake hands with his builders, thanking them for their hard work at the end of the day.  “This is a well-deserved award,” says Pat. “My father has had great longevity and many accomplishments in his career, and one of his greatest is experiencing the 60th anniversary with the Healeys still owning and managing the company, including the third generation.”  Viking started “with 17 barren acres and a winter storage shed,” said Pat. Today, the New Gretna plant stretches for nearly a quarter of a mile, with five manufacturing lines where yachts from 38 to 90 feet are built. Between the New Gretna and Mullica facilities, the company has about 1 million square feet of manufacturing space and built 174 boats between the Viking and Valhalla brands last year.

Viking Key West Challenge 2024

The Viking Key West Challenge is always a special event, bringing together Viking and Valhalla owners for four days of family, fishing and fun in the Conch Republic. This year was even more momentous because it marked the event’s 10th year and provided the perfect venue to celebrate Viking’s 60th anniversary.  Vikings and Valhallas took over the waterfront from April 3-6, with Thursday and Saturday reserved as fish days. It was an amazing sight each dawn and late afternoon as the beautiful industry-leading fleet of yachts departed and returned.  “These tournaments are about camaraderie, a little competition, great dinners together and lot of fun,” Viking President and CEO Pat Healey said during the Captains’ Meeting at Dante’s Key West. “I want to thank all of you – the largest group we’ve ever had in our 10-year history, and it’s on our 60th anniversary. Wow!”  The Viking 61 Right Choice finished as the Top Boat, releasing 11 sailfish and boating two kingfish and a pair of tuna. They edged out 2nd Place overall finisher Papa’s Pilar, a Valhalla 41, that released 10 sails and brought a tuna and a wahoo to the scales. Third Place overall went to the Viking 72 Magic Hour, with 10 sailfish releases, three tuna and one kingfish.  The team from the Right Choice also took 1st Place Sailfish, with the Valhalla 41 Badfish placing 2nd and Magic Hour finishing 3rd in the division.  The youngsters stole the show when it came to angler awards. Ten-year-old Piper Hatcher on the Viking 58 Salt Shaker finished first in three categories: Overall Angler, Overall Female Angler and Overall Junior Angler. The secret to her success? “Keep it tight,” said Piper, who released eight sails and caught one 19-pound tuna. “I started fishing when I was seven. This was my first sailfish, and last year I caught my first white marlin. I love fishing and the ocean and being with my family.”  In both the Overall Angler and Junior Angler categories, Danny Accardi on the Viking 92 Sir Reel finished 2nd, followed in 3rd Place by Adam Kapusta on the Right Choice. Like we said, it was a clean sweep for the kids.  The teams caught plenty of meat fish, and the Spot Zero Weigh Station was bustling with activity. “It’s priceless to see all the smiling faces,” said Pat, who was on hand giving the boats thumbs-ups and slapping high fives with the anglers. “It’s absolutely the best.”  Paul Groth aboard Papa’s Pilar caught a 43.4-pound wahoo to win 1st Place in that category. First Place team honors in other meat categories went to the Viking 70 Pipe Dreamer for tuna; Sexy Lady, a Viking 62, for dolphin; the Viking 68 Miss Carrie for kingfish; and the Viking 80 Rachel Anne for cobia.  They traveled to the southernmost point of the U.S. to compete, but – as the tagline states – the event is about “More Than Just Fishing!” There were plenty of fun activities on the lay day, including the Pool Party Lunch, Duval Street Bar Crawl Poker Run and Kids Dock Tournament. Always a cherished event, boys and girls get a chance to bend a rod and take pictures with their catch – no matter the size. The bite picked up after a slow start. One parent could be heard saying, “put down that juice box it’s time to start fishing!”  “This is our first year and it’s been great,” said Chris Eni, who was participating with his wife, Jennifer, and family. The couple recently took delivery of their 58 Convertible On a Roll, their second Viking. “It’s great to be together with all these Viking owners. There’s so much to do. Viking really knows how to put on a fun event.  And the icing on the cake to this year’s Viking Key West Challenge was just that – the sparkling white frosting of a cake to commemorate Viking’s 60th anniversary and cap off the Awards Dinner at Opal Key. The Healey family gathered around the three-layer treat and sang “Happy Birthday” along with the 500-plus guests.  The 11th annual Viking Key West Challenge takes place Wednesday, April 9 through Sunday, April 13, 2025.

Viking at Chub Cay Classic

Bob Moss’ Viking 72 SandboB claimed second Place Boat at the Chub Cay Classic in the Bahamas. Third Place was awarded to James Adams’ Viking 66 Gunnslinger. Gunnslinger also took the Top Lady Angler award while Bob Edwards’ Viking 52 Shakedown weighed the Heaviest Meatfish.

Viking at Chub Cay Invitational

The Guidry family’s Viking 72 Team Harvey was the second Place Boat at the Chub Cay Invitational earlier this month. Top Lady Angler went to William Johnston’s Viking 80 Wingman and the team on Bob Moss’ Viking 72 SandboB weighed the Heaviest Meatfish.

VisionF Power Catamaran Burns Down in Miami River

A 2023 build VisionF power catamaran titled Flagship went ablaze and ultimately was destroyed by a fire which started in a covered water shed at the Merrill-Stevens Yachts repair yard, on the Miami river, North-West to Downtown Miami, at 11:15 on the morning of Sunday 28 April.  Miami Fire Rescue responded to the fire, with 32 rescue units and 100 fire fighters, including the Hazmat Team and a Fireboat.  This was a delicate fire fighting operation, also because the yacht was located in a close shed with nearby yachts, and other burning materials, with the first course off action being that to tow the yacht outside.  The fire took about one hour to control, with the yacht ultimately partly sinking in the Miami River.  No one was injured in the fire, with Merill-Stevens yard manager saying it was lucky that the accident happened on a Sunday.  The causes of the fire are under investigation, and are also being followed by VisionF, due to the relatively young age of less to a year of the yacht.
Flagship is a 2023 VisionF 82 Alu, alumimium build in Turkey.  The VisionF 82 was first announced a project under the Silent Yachts brand in 2022, ultimately the brands separated in around 2023, and VisionF decided to launch the project under its own brand.  Three Vision F82 Alu have so far been delivered, with the yard having further projects for a smaller 80 and bigger 100 model.

Fjord New Web Site

Fjord presents its new web site.  Fjord was founded in the early sixties by Alf Richard Bjerke in Arendal, who decided to enter boat building after a visit to the Hannover boat show.  Originally founded as Fjord Plast, Bjorke gets the help of Finn B. Roer as business partner, and Jan Hermann Linge as designer, setting up a small shop which could build boats up to 24 feet in Arendal, debuting with the Fjordling 17 as designed by Linge in 1962 which is followed by the fifteen foot Gressvig dinghy on the same year. The Fjordling will be build in hundreds of units till 1970.  By 1964 Fjord will move to a new location in Fevik, and in the end of the sixties it will buy Herwa, Selco, Trifoil, and Norcem's plastic boat businesses.  After ten years in business Fjord is offering 72 models from four shipyards, and is the largest boat producer in Northern Europe.  The business at Fjord is so good that Bjerke is planning for a 75 footer on the drawing board, abruptly cancelled with the 1973 oil crisis which will put the at the time largest Scandinavian boat producer in great difficulty.  The 1973 oil crisis hits Fjord so hard that it is sold to Norcem, a Norwegian cement producer, which by the end seventies will close the three Arendal, Tromøy, Grimstad factories with only the one in Rjukan remaining open.  In 1981, Fjord is sold to Bjørn Minde, Tor Egil Baardsen and Odd Simonsen. Minde eventually takes over as sole owner and merges Fjord Plast with Wiking Boats, giving the Fjord Boats name.  In 1991 Fjord is sold again to Eivind Astrup, who will sell again to Inger Sande Brøvig in 1996. In March 2006, Hanse Yachts will buy 51% of the shares in Fjord, with the Norwegian boat builder becoming a total part of the Hanse Yachts Group in 2007, and moving production to Germany.  The Fjord Hanse era will debut with a total different minimal design of the 40 Cruiser as designed by Patrick Banfield, although it will be the 40 Open a twelve meter walk around sports cruiser which starts the new successful of the new German owned Fjord. Today's Fjord line up features offers nine models, which start with the 38 Open and go up to the 53 XL flagship, with its latest model being the 41 XP and XL models with a 480 currently being in project stages.  The new Fjord website takes you around with the following buttons: Motorboats, Fjord Legend, Magazine, Events, Dealers, Services, Contact Us, and Configure Now.  Fjord is also on social media with links at the right bottom of the page taking you to its Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Linkedin pages.

Princess Yacht Stucks in Chelmsford Bridge

A fifteen meter Princess yacht collided and got stuck in its road transport journey in the Chelmsford Railway viaduct, Chelmsford, to the North East of London, UK, on the late morning of Saturday 27 April.  This Princess was on its way from Denmark to the UK to a boat yard in Essex Marina, and ended in an alternative road because the planned motorway route was closed, passing into the Chelmsford Railway viaduct and soft colliding and getting stuck with the bridge side pillars.  With this collision delaying the Princess yacht arrival, and causing some traffic mayhem.  The Princess was later freed from the the bridge and continued its journey to Essex Marina. The damage to the Princess Yacht was not reported. According to unconfirmed reports this is the same Princess yacht which ended aground in Rorvig, Denmark on the eighteen June 2023.
The Princess yacht in this bridge collision is an F50 model as released in 2019 as a replacement to the 49. The Princess F50 is designed by Bernard Olesinski and Pininfarina exterior styling. In 2022 the Princess F50 was updated with the addition of larger glazing on the hull sides.

New Model: Canados Gladiator 961 Speed

Canados has in the end of 2023 launched the first unit of its Gladiator 961 Speed, its largest super sport yacht to date and first to feature a sport bridge from the Rome Italian yacht builder.  Designed inhouse with interior by Christian Gatto the Canados Gladiator 961 Speed, is as the name implies first of all a fast yacht able to cruise up to forty knots in both twin MTU 2600hp or triple Man 2000hp power options.  The Canados Gladiator 961 Speed though is also a comfortable sport yacht with a living on the main deck offering dining and lounging with a galley offset to port side, while the lower deck is all reserved for the four double guest cabins with an owners stateroom at midships.  A crew area with two cabins and a galley is located at midships in between the cabins and the engine room.  Exterior spaces are featured in three distinctive areas, aft deck, fore deck and flybridge, with all of these offering lounging dining and sunbathing areas.  Canados seems to have gone great lengths to make the Gladiator 961 Speed light and strong, with carbon fiber E-glass infused construction, Airex core used for the floors, but also coring used in the furniture to minimize weight as possible.

Project: Cantiere Delle Marche Deep Blue 115

Cantiere delle Marche has sold and starting construction of its first Deep Blue 115 model. The Deep Blue 115, designed by Horacio Bozzo stands as a remarkable successor to her predecessor, the 43m Acala, whose acclaim at prestigious events like the Cannes and Monaco yacht shows, along with her recognition at the World Superyacht Award, paved the way for her evolution into the successful Deep Blue series and it becoming the 141 model. With a robust steel hull, boasting a gross tonnage of 299, the Deep Blue 115 mirrors Acala in both character and amenities. At 35 meters in length with a beam of over seven meters, Deep Blue 115 is to be powered by twin Caterpillar 715hp each, a very modest power which aims to give low fuel consumption and a remarkable range. Axis Group Yacht Design has been entrusted to develop both naval architecture and engineering of the yacht. Cantiere delle Marche Deep Blue 115 offers accommodation for ten guests in five cabins, with the owner stateroom on the main deck forward and four guest suites on the Lower deck. A crew of seven will take care of managing the yacht and attending to the guests’ welfare. The Deep Blue 115 has a traditional layout with two salons, on the main and upper deck, a large galley on the Main deck, guest accommodations on the Lower deck, and plenty of outdoor areas on all decks. Among the yacht’s main features worth mentioning is the large swimming pool on the main deck aft with a tank to store the treated water while underway, a tender garage opening on the port side, openable sliding doors equipped with pneumatic gasketing on both sides of the main salon, a foldable terrace to starboard next to the dining area. Insulation to lower both the already exceptional noise and vibration levels has been improved to grant an incredible comfort and speech privacy in most interior areas. The whole AV/IT systems of the Deep Blue 115 are to be engineered by Videoworks: another yachting excellence from the Marche region, while the interior, envisioned by Giorgio M. Cassetta, promises to captivate and enchant with a subtle elegance made of silent details.

New Model: Duchy Sport 11.2m

Part of the Cockwells Group, Duchy Motor Launches are an interesting British brand offering traditional looking cruisers and yachts from six to eighteen meters in length, who with this new Sport model debut into the sport cruiser segment and its first planning hull, courtesy of designer Andrew Wolstenholme.  Debuting in 2023 the eleven meters Duchy Sport actually started out as a custom order from a customer, with Cockswell then deciding to offer the model as an off the shelf production made.  A clever move considering the success this type of sport cruisers are enjoying in the current market, and also because the Duchy Sport is a kind of a unique offer, more sport cruiser looking but with walk around amenities.  The Duchy Sport accommodation is about it's exterior, with a twin sun-pad aft central corridor welcoming you aboard, L-shaped dinette, triple seat helm console, with two steps up leading to the bulwark protected walkaround side decks, which features a sun-pad on top of the cabin roof.  A door to starboard of the helm station leads to the cabin area, which offers accommodation for two from a V-shaped dinette forward which transforms to a double berth, and a shower head to port side.  The Duchy Sport is powered by twin Yanmar 370hp with stern drive propulsion which give a top speed up to 42 knots and a cruise of thirty knots.

Boca Chita Boat Yacht Collision Kills Two

A collision between a fifteen meter Azimut sport yacht and a five meter Key West open boat in South Biscayne Bay, Boca Chita Key, Miami-Dade County on 18:45 hours of Sunday 21 April killed two men.  The reason of the accident and who struck who are not reported, with both vessels having seven passengers onboard when the boats collided into each other.  The operator and a passenger of the small Key West boat where emergency transported to a hospital, and ultimately did not make it and died.  The Azimut as the picture above shows had damage on its starboard bow area, with the small Key West boat damaged on its port-side to aft.  Florida Fish and Wildlife are investigating the accident.
The Azimut sport yacht in this collision is an Atlantis 51 model, as released in 2018 to a project of Neo Design of Salvetti and Biaggi.  Still in production today, the Azimut Atlantis 51 replaced the Atlantis 50 after five years of production.

Project: Castagnola Heritage 15

Castagnola presents the project for the Heritage 15, a sport yacht of fifteen meters in length as designed by Nauta with naval architecture by Francesco Rogantin.  You do not change a winning project and understandably Castagnola repeat the design and architecture of the Heritage 9.9 which debuted in 2020 to the larger Heritage 15, where it is all but very similar to the smaller sister, with the additional size offering more spaces both inside and out.  Nauta followed the path again of clean and timeless exterior lines, with a near identical exterior layout which now gets added with a T-Top and goes again for a double aft sun-pad with central corridor layout, which then offers a C-shaped dinette, and L-shaped galley wet-bar opposite to starboard behind the helm station.  The interior of the Castagnola Heritage 15 gets the most of the extra size now offering a two cabins two heads interior; forward owners suite, and a dinette which transforms to an additional berth in between the two cabins.   The Castagnola Heritage 15 is to be powered by twin Man 730hp with line shaft engines, with two thousand liters fuel capacity which according to the Italian builder will allow a safe range in between the main Western islands of Sardinia and the Balearics.  The Castognola Heritage 15 is to be constructed in what the Eastern Liguria boat and yacht builder calls WTS; Wood in Tech Skin, which is a cold molding construction method with mahogany strip planking infused in epoxy and fiberglass matts.  Being that a lot of Italian yacht builders were still immersed in wood construction up to the nineties, in both the Venice and Genoa area, I am still surprised how cold molding never got the success it has as the East of the USA.
