A seventeen meter Azimut yacht titled m/y Bebezao with thirteen persons onboard went ablaze in Baia de Ilha Grande, close to Ilha de Gipoia, Angra dos Reis, Costa Verde, Brazil on the afternoon of Sunday 27 February. The twelve guests and one crew abandoned the yacht before the arrival of the Fire Department, who came to control the blaze, with the vessel ultimately ending destroyed and sank by the fire. None of the thirteen persons was injured in the yacht fire, as the Brazilian Navy opened an enquiry to find the cause of the blaze.
The Azimut yacht in this fire is a 55 Evo as designed by Stefano Righini for exterior and Carlo Galeazzi for interior and produced from 2005 to 2009. The Azimut 55 Evo was a soft evolution, with small detail changes of the 55 and was replaced by the 58. The Azimut 55 and 55 Evo was the best selling flybridge yacht in the noughties, selling over 400 units in an eight year production run.
