Ten persons were saved as a sport cruiser of twelve meters in length went ablaze near Nichupté Lagoon in front of the Plaza la Isla in Cancun, Mexico at about 19:00 of Monday first February. The ten persons chartered the boat to tour the lagoon, as the sport cruiser went ablaze only some minutes into the trip, as the boat left its berth at 18:44 local time. The ten guests were rescued by nearby boaters as the Mexican Navy arrived on the scene to extinguish the fire. Paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross also arrived at the place, attending to the tourists, as well as police officers from the three levels of government. Ultimately the sport cruiser was lost to the fire.
