An eleven meter sport cruiser went ablaze and then ran away in the channel of Runaway Bay, Queensland, on the Gold Coast of Australia on the morning of Saturday 22 August. The sport cruiser broke its mooring as the fire got bigger becoming a hazard for other boats and property as it moved in the channel helped by the wind and current. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services tended to the fire with five men, in a difficult situation because of the strong winds of the day. The boat ultimately became a total loss with no one injured in the fire. Some unconfirmed reports are saying that work was being done in the engine of the boat as it went ablaze.
The boat in this this fire is an Australian made Sunrunner 3700 as produced from 2001 to 2005. In 2006 Sunrunner Boats updated the the 3700 to the LE version adding a rigid T-Top option. Sunrunner Boats from Queensland is pretty unknown out of Australia, though they are popular down under since the noughties for a range which expanded up to a 48 foot sport cruiser.
