Project: Wally 27-meter Why200

What happens when you take the living space and lifestyle advantages of a 33-meter superyacht and fit them into a vessel that is 27 meters? The outcome is Wally’s exciting new Why200, the latest compact super yacht to come from the visionary team headed by chief designer Luca Bassani at the renowned Monegasque brand alongside Ferretti Group’s Engineering department, with naval architecture from Laurent Giles and interior design provided by A. Vallicelli & C Studio. After more than 25 years of creating some of the world’s most revolutionary yachts, Wally has turned its attention to the compact superyacht market in creating the Why200, which measures 200 gross tons and can be registered under 24 meters load line length but conveys the comfort and space of a much larger displacement yacht alongside the speed advantages of a semi-displacement yacht. By absorbing prized space conventionally used for exterior walkways into a unique, full-beam salon, the WHY200’s 61-square-meter open-plan contemporary living area is increased significantly. Being 50% larger than most salons found in the yacht’s category, the expansive space benefits from a structural central carbon fibre staircase, linking the accommodation on the lower deck to the upper deck’s stunning glass-encased sky lounge. Additionally, an informal show kitchen can be fitted as an optional layout. The numbers speak for themselves in showing why this yacht is so remarkable. The WHY200 provides more than 200 square meters of indoor living space, including a 22-square-meter upper deck interior and a 100-square-meter main deck interior. The lower deck has a typical footprint for the yacht’s length, given over to three or four double guest cabins, but the crew and service quarters have the largest capacity for the class, with the galley and three cabins for up to five crew members spread over 32 square meters. Recognizing a shift in owner preferences to reduce exposure to the elements while enjoying the outdoor environment, Wally has provided ample protection from the sun, wind and rain across its 144 square meters of exterior decks. An extended pillarless overhang above the main deck aft and flanking glass panels provide shelter to the alfresco dining and lounging area, which has unobstructed views on three sides and seamlessly flows into the main salon past sliding full-height doors. This extended overhang translates to a larger upper deck aft, too, offering space to recline on sun-loungers or sit at the shaded dining table. Through a large sliding door, guests make their way into Wally’s first enclosed bridge, encompassing the wheelhouse and sky lounge, which are stylishly encased in glass with a carbon superstructure that echoes the clean, angular aesthetic of the brand’s legendary Wallypower motor yachts. Access to the foredeck is provided through side doors in the wheelhouse. Of course, fun in and on the water is a key attraction to the yachting lifestyle, and the Why200 brings this in abundance. Fold-out wings expand the beach club area to the kind of magnitude seen on a superyacht, spanning 32 square meters with access to the sea on three sides, creating a whole new level of enjoyment at the waterline. With not one but two concealed garages, there is unprecedented storage capacity for the yacht’s size category, ingeniously stowing a four-meter tender and numerous water-toys. Beyond the lure of the enhanced living space on board, the Why200’s adaptive performance capabilities are compelling. The Why200 is the first Wally Hybrid Yacht: optimized for both full- and semi-displacement cruising, it sits perfectly between the voluminous but slower full displacement yachts and the restricted but rapid planning yachts. Combining advanced naval architecture and an adaptive multi-propulsion system, the Why200 has been designed to cruise at an impressive 20 knots in hyper displacement mode, providing more time to explore further afield and to reduce duration underway between anchorages or trips into port. And when speed is less important than efficiency, for example during relocations made by the crew, the yacht also performs economically in long-range displacement mode. In terms of naval architecture and engineering, the Why200 meets all the expectations that come with the respected Wally name. Statistically, guests spend more time on yachts when they are at anchor than underway, so a roll-free at-anchor experience is essential for comfort on board; with its stable, beamy hull complemented by both fin and gyroscopic stabilizers, the Why200 is as steady as they come. After exhaustive testing at the Solent University’s towing tank in Southampton, UK, the yacht’s functionally-led hull form has been optimized to deliver a comfortable experience at a wide range of speeds, thanks to the close collaboration between Wally, Ferretti Group Engineering and Laurent Giles naval architecture studio. And as one of the foundations for the Why200’s design concept, its Volvo pod propulsion system is central to delivering an engine room that maximizes living space on the lower deck, while also providing easy and safe manoeuvring from the helm. The Why200 will debut at the Ferretti Group Private Preview in Monaco at the beginning of September 2021.

Viking proudly introduces the new 54 Open O, and 54 Sport Tower ST. Joining the new award-winning 54 Convertible C, these express sportfish yachts amplifies Viking’s dominance in the mid-size sportfishing market. With its aggressive entry, raked stem, one-piece wraparound windshield and Palm Beach Towers hardtop and tuna tower, the 54 Open presents a striking profile while excelling as a stylish fish-and-cruise Viking thoroughbred. The new models utilize the same advanced hull design of the 54 Convertible, which has been a smash hit from Viking since its premiere at the 2020 Fort Lauderdale boat sow where it captured the Best of Show Award. The 54 Sport Tower features a three-sided fiberglass deckhouse, with an optional solid aft bulkhead and a PBT tuna tower. The Open, and Sport Tower share cockpit and command deck layouts, providing an excellent use of space for fishing, diving, cruising and entertaining. The 14 square meters cockpit boasts twin mezzanine seating with cooler storage below, along with drink coolers, in-deck fish and storage boxes, a transom live well and a transom door with liftgate. The command deck gives you instant access to the cockpit. The centreline helm, with its pedestal seat on a raised platform, provides excellent visibility and is complemented by double port and single starboard companion seating. Aft of the helm, there is a convergence of practical and convenience features, including two lounges, a dinette, refrigeration and tackle and gear storage compartments. New Launch: Rossinavi 52m FR039

Viareggio-based shipyard Rossinavi has recently delivered its 52-meter masterpiece Florentia, previously launched during a private ceremony in June 2020. Florentia is an elegant 810 GT volume super yacht with a steel full-displacement hull and aluminium superstructure. Equipped with two Cat 2549hp diesel engines, she can reach a top speed of 17 knots and has a cruising range of 6,500 nm at ten knots. It is a custom project with exterior design by Rome-based architecture firm Studio Vafiadis whilst Italian architect Carlo Colombo together with his design studio A++ looked after the design and styling of the interior areas. The boat’s external lines are elegant and sinuous; durable materials and functional design merge into the silhouette of the yacht to create comfortable and sheltered places for the owners and their guests. Similar to a proper home, the dimensions of the areas within this Rossinavi 52m are generous and thought for the guests to move around easily and comfortably. Also, the ceiling height of the boat’s interiors is of 2.35 m which is remarkable. Key areas include a main deck, which welcomes guests on board, an upper deck featuring a multi-functional salon, the fly deck boasting a VIP stateroom, and finally a lower deck which accommodates the remaining cabins for the guests and crews. Florentia can welcome up to 12 guests and 11 crew members on board at the same time in navigation. The staircase originating from the main deck is the beating heart of the boat. It serves to naturally distribute the areas of the yacht and is complimented by a blend of warm colours, leathers and light wood. The lobby in the main deck is characterised by a sculptural spiral-shaped railing that connects this area to the other decks. The design of the staircase and of the lobby is representative of the entire project and harmoniously introduces those pleasant shapes and valuable materials that make Florentia special in so many different ways. From the main deck, it is possible to access the salon and dining room, while the owner's cabin is at bow. The main salon and the dining room are both majestic spaces, formally divided only by a structural bespoke cabinet. The main living area is aft and features structural sofas that extend to the centre of the boat while the dining table is forward. The owner’s cabin has a private balcony as well as two walk-in wardrobes. The curvy shape of the master bed headboard, which is saddle-stitched and upholstered in leather, complements the sinuous details of the floor and ceiling that make ways to the owner’s bathroom. In the centre of the room, just above the bed, is a ring-shaped mirror artwork reflecting the light coming from the sea in all directions at full beam. The upper deck is a rather large entertainment area. This multi-functional space could turn into a cinema thanks to the projector that appears from the ceiling. The amphitheatre-like upper deck area features a double-sided sofa upholstered in natural fabric and facing the bar area. From here, it is possible to reach the technical areas, including the wheelhouse and captain’s cabin, as well as the cockpit where soft shapes, technical equipment and luxury materials are prestigious and functional. From the lobby of the fly deck, it is possible to enter the VIP Suite. This unique cabin boasts a private balcony at bow and access to the outdoor jacuzzi at stern. It is a proper separate reality featuring a lounge area, a master bedroom and a private bathroom. Two symmetrical king bedrooms as well as two double bedrooms are in the lower deck which is also the area of the crew members together with a galley, crew mess, a laundry and five twin rooms. In Rossinavi 52m, the multi-scenic approach leads to the creation of a symbiotic language, which characterises this special yacht design line.

Project: Nordhavn 51

Pacific Asian Enterprises, is excited to announce a brand new design, the Nordhavn 51, which will follow closely in the wake of its smaller sister-ship, the N41. Inspired by the N41’s resounding success, the brand new Nordhavn 51 will mimic the same production-like structure, which places emphasis on a set, streamlined build order instead of individual customization.  The two-stateroom, two-head passage maker answers the calls from customers who are drawn to the N41 design but want more room, an additional head and a flybridge. The Nordhavn 51 will more closely resemble other long range cruising Nordhavns with her separated pilothouse, but her interior will mirror the finishes of the N41. She will be produced as a complete boat that includes stabilizers, bow thruster, and davit among other items as standard.  Powered by twin John Deere 160hp engines, the Nordhavn 51 will be a modern passagemaker to usher in the new decade with state-of-the-art technology at the engineering level and a contemporary design scheme. As is the case with the N41, the Nordhavn 51 will be CE Certified Category A for the most serious offshore use. Tooling for the N51 is underway and the first hull is expected to lay up in March. She will be built alongside the Nordhavn 41 at our partner factory in Turkey. Currently the first seven hulls have been reserved for purchase. Hull #1 is expected to finish in about 18 months.

Princess Yacht Burns at Cortez Cove Marina

A 21 meter Princess motor yacht was destroyed by fire while dry docked at Cortez Cove Marina, Cortez, Florida with the flames starting on 1545 hours of Monday eighteen January.  The Princess motor yacht had marina staff performing maintenance, when a fire ignited onboard.  Fire fighters from West Manatee and Cedar Hammock responded to the call, and then fighted it and fully extinguishing after eighteen hours.  No one was injured in the fire and surprisingly no damages to surrounding boats and the environment occurred even though the yacht had about seven hundred liters of fuel onboard and was just a couple of meters away from the water.  The cause of the fire is under investigation but marina staff onboard the vessel reported that they saw smoke coming from the electrical panels, before the yacht blazed into flames.
The Princess in this fire is a 2014 72 MY, as designed by Bernard Olesinski and produced from 2010 to 2015.  The Princess 72 MY offers a four double cabins lower deck layout, with a two berth crew cabin.  The 72 MY had an evolutive production with changes coming to the large windows serving the master cabin becoming frame less from 2012 model year.  The 72 MY came out as a replacement to the 21M and was replaced by the 75 in 2016.

New Model: Alva Ocean Eco 60 Explorer

Alva Yachts, the German designer and manufacturer of electric floating solutions, has just revealed the new electric catamaran Ocean Eco 60 Explorer.  The Alva Ocean Eco 60 Explorer stands out for it enclosed upper deck which drastically increase the space on board, as it creates a climate-controlled and protected area which can be enjoyed all over the year, even in cold conditions and bad weather.  The layout of Ocean Eco 60 Explorer features large spaces, flooded in light thanks to the glazing and the light hues of the interiors.  The main deck has two wide cockpits outside, one to aft and one in the foredeck. Inside, the large saloon features the galley on the port side, completed by a separate island with bar and stools. In the center there's the dining table for eight, while to starboard a couch complete the layout. The front part is taken by the large L-shaped sofa and freestanding tea table and armchair. A TV pops up from a center cabinet and behind its a round staircase takes to the flybridge, while two side companionways lead to the lower decks.  The Ocean Eco 60 Explorer can be chosen in two different layouts, one sporting three staterooms, with the owner's one taking the whole starboard hull, and one for a charter use, with four cabins. The crew can be accommodated in two or three cabins, for a total of four members in three cabins.  The flybridge can be reached by the mentioned, rounded staircase or by a second one, outside, which connects the cockpit to the upper balcony and the side decks.  Inside, the space is taken by a comfortable double cabin with exceptional view, and by the helm station to fore.  The technical part is shared with the traditional Ocean Eco 60 and features two electric motors and a large battery pack. The batteries are powered by solar panels and by an auxiliary generator, which can be replaced by a hydrogen fuel cell for a completely emission-free yacht. In any case, the battery packs grant enough range for exploring recessed and protected areas without emitting any noise and exhausts. The Explorer versions can also be operated with Hydrogen Cells instead of a fuel generator.

Project: Heesen 55m Project Gemini YN 19755

Heesen is delighted to introduce to the market the latest in the 55-metre Steel class, YN 19755 Project Gemini, which follows the mythical Dioscuri Castor now Solemates, and Pollux.  For the successor to the twin half-brothers, Heesen appointed Italian design firm Luca Dini for its first collaboration with the Dutch shipyard. The Italian studio created a sophisticated interior décor that celebrates the light and the indoor-outdoor connection. These elements characterise the design of this super yacht, which is approximately 760 gross tons and over 400 square meters of luxury areas for the owners and their guests.  Frank Laupman of Omega Architects penned the muscular exterior lines of this successful series and worked closely with Heesen’s in-house engineers to create an evolutionary design.  A geometric linear design, with horizontal and vertical clean lines, is the leitmotiv throughout the interior of Project Gemini. Warm, full gloss, Tay wood and natural stone are matched with marine leather wall-panels and doors, and fabric-lined ceilings. The overall atmosphere is Zen and elegantly calm.  Twelve guests are accommodated in six staterooms. The impressive 83 square metres Owner’s apartment is located on the main deck forward and stretches full beam. Floor-to-ceiling windows are draped with cotton and linen curtains that harmonise the geometric design and add a relaxing touch to the room. Forward, his and hers walk-in wardrobes give access to the master bathroom. Here, a freestanding black bathtub takes centre stage and is glorified by the recessed light fixture on the ceiling that mirrors its shape. On the starboard side, a large shower stall with rain shower completes the space and adds practicality to the room. Two twin and two double suites are on the lower deck, while the VIP cabin is located on the bridge deck.  Guests will be amazed when entering the main saloon. Two large bronze-mirrored ceiling panels reflect light and space around the room, maximising the already generous layout and making the best out of the large vertical windows. A cosy lounge area with large sofas takes the centre of the main saloon and is adjacent to the formal dining area located amidships and set for twelve. The full-beam sky lounge is the pièce de résistance and offers the finest panoramic views. Ideal for lounging, relaxing watching TV or sipping cocktails at the bar, this space will become one of the most enjoyed onboard Gemini.  With toys and tenders conveniently stored on the foredeck, a fully-fledged wellness area in the beach club offers the ideal haven for relaxation after a day at sea.  The layout of the spacious outdoor areas has been carefully thought through and offers the owners and their guests plenty of alternatives for enjoying life outdoor. The expansive 110 square metre sundeck comprises a Jacuzzi surrounded by large sun pads, a central bar for servicing all areas with ease, an oval dining table on port side, and opposite, a built-in sofa. Reclining loungers face aft and are ideal underway to watch the world go by. The bridge deck aft terrace is equipped for al fresco dining and lounging, while the main deck aft terrace is perfect for pre-dinner cocktails.  Thanks to two MTU 1341hp engines combined with her ultra-efficient Fast Displacement steel hull, Project Gemini will reach a top speed of fifteen knots and have a transatlantic range of 4,500 nautical miles at thirteen.  Project Gemini is currently under construction and her hull and superstructure will be joined at our facility in Oss in March 2021.
