Project: Vanquish VQ40

Powering ahead with innovations that revolutionize the motorboat industry, Vanquish present the project for a new VQ40. This new Vanqish project embodies sport cruiser / runabout / walk-around boat blends together premium Dutch artisan-ship with Bakewell-White’s potent stepped hull and Guido de Groot’s exquisite exterior profile to create a true drivers boat.  Vanquish has already gained a massive fan base for its bespoke aluminium powerboats, which are being ordered worldwide by clients in ever larger versions. But size isn’t everything and the VQ40 will be built in high-quality composite to meet an equally strong demand for Vanquish yachts under 45 feet. Leveraging on the yard’s experience with composite on the successful VQ16 water scooter, Vanquish will be able to create more VQ40s in a shorter time frame, further boosting the brand’s global visibility.  The renderings of the VQ40 already quicken the heart. They also illustrate the remarkable time and effort which has gone into ensuring that all the assets that make a Vanquish unique have been included in this stunning new speed machine.  The stepped hull was designed by the award-winning naval architects at Bakewell-White Yacht Design, specialists in high-performance hulls from New Zealand. Their work on the VQ40 has helped ensure an unrivaled acceleration and a boat that excels in terms of wave riding skills and maneuverability. The rest of the exceptionally cool exterior design is from the drawing boards of Guido de Groot who has poured elegance and resolve into this latest member of the fleet, giving the VQ40 that instantly recognizable Vanquish flair.  A key consideration in the development of the VQ40 was the wide range of different clients that Vanquish serves. The boat is therefore exceptionally multi functional and can be equipped with a wide selection of engines.  The standard inboard propulsion setup consists of twin 320hp Volvo D4 diesels with stern drives and a maximum speed of 40 knots. Clients can also opt for twin 440 hp Volvo D6 engines to increase their top speed to 46 knots. Choices for the outboard version with the Mercury range from twin 225hp speed of 35 knots, to a triple 350hp set up which takes you up to 51 knots.  Last but not least Vanquish also follows this new VQ40 with the Veloce version here with triple 400hp which allow for speeds up to 54 knots.  The layout of the VQ40 offers a wealth of space, with seats and loungers for fourteen people and plenty of room to walk around safely and comfortably. In addition, the boat is fitted with a stylish, transparent T-Top that lets in air but not heat.  There are lounge areas fore and aft, each furnished with extremely comfortable and high-quality cushions. Behind the driver and co-pilot seats is a smart outdoor-galley area, complete with electric grill, Corian countertop, sinks, hot and cold water, wine cooler/fridge and storage lockers. The snazzy area below decks includes a double bed, shower and toilet.

Improve-it = Riviera 6000 Sport Yacht

The Riviera 6000 Sport Yacht has been often said to be one of the prettiest Riviera yachts, and its Platinum Edition refinement under the perfectionist eyes of Mr Longhurst and the highly-regarded Riviera design team takes this popular yacht to another level.  Twin Volvo 725hp with IPS pod drives are housed in the 6000’s cleanly laid-out engine-room, a place where artistic form meets functionality, and they simply purr when the vessel is underway. Delivering a smooth and quiet ride when cruising, the 6000 accelerates briskly to a very sporty top speed.  The main deck hard top is extended to enhance the sleekness, while also integrating an electric sunroof. Sitting below, it’s cosy, cocooned and comfortable. Step inside the saloon, and the galley is located to port, now featuring waterfall galley bench tops with stainless steel sinks and mixer tap.  Glass skylights richly illuminate the aft area of the saloon, and a radar arch allows the sunroof to slide beneath. Forward is a sunroof that, with the addition of side-opening windows and aft awning window, creates a seamless indoor/outdoor world.  The starboard-side lounge now sees a center seat base slide out to become an ottoman and includes a small fold-out timber table. The dining area lounge base is upholstered to give an opulent look and the seating in this area has been extended.  New-style Pompanette helm seats with Alcantara inserts and feature stitching are a glamorous feature of the helm station.  Moving below, you come to the atrium, a corridor filled with light to accentuate the crisp architectural look and feel. Accommodation layout options vary according to buyer preferences but include the option of a palatial “Presidential” master suite.  Throughout the yacht the list of refinements is subtle yet significant, showing considerable thought for the vessel’s overall user-friendliness.  For that final touch of Platinum, grey caulking is utilised in teak decks instead of the conventional black.  The highly efficient hull designs draw on both Volvo Penta and Riviera's extensive experience with the Inboard Propulsion System fitted to date to more than 700 Riviera vessels. From an engineering perspective, all Platinum Edition Sport Yachts have the ability to be gyro stabilized.

Engine: Volvo D6 480hp

With over 100,000 units delivered since its introduction in 2003, Volvo Penta has given its next generation D4 and D6 engines a comprehensive overhaul. The benefits touch on almost every aspect that boat owners consider important; including performance, reliability, durability, running costs and maintenance.  From the outside the changes might not be that obvious, but almost every aspect of the fully integrated system has been upgraded, from helm-to-prop.  The enhancements include re-engineering of the engines, delivering more power and torque and ensuring the highest levels of reliability. They are perfectly matched with an upgraded IPS pod and the new DPI Aquamatic stern-drive, which bring increased comfort and maneuverability, as well as more straightforward servicing and maintenance.  The D4/D6 is the company’s most technically advanced package. Designed exclusively for marine applications, the 5.5 liter D6 deliver Volvo Penta’s unique marine torque, ensuring maximum power is transferred to the propellers and into the water, across the whole speed range. The changes are more than a face-lift, with the majority of components reengineered. The D6 in top spec boasts 480 hp up from 435hp. Not only 10% more power across the range, the engine is also now more fuel efficient, between 0.5% to 7.0%.  The list of upgrades is long, including a new engine management system, new fuel injection system, new turbo charger and a new supercharger. The cylinder head, pistons and valves are new, to cope with the increased performance, and the crankshaft is also now stronger to handle the bigger loads.  The D6 480hp will also cost less to maintain, with longer service intervals and fewer service items. All this adds up to annual savings in fuel, parts and servicing.
