Powerboat GPS - Polto Quato Grand Prix

The picturesque Poltu Quatu on the famous Emerald Coast in Sardinia was the back drop for the turning point of the 2010 season. This year season is becoming a very challenging competition, where differences between both boats in the classes are just split seconds and with this reliability playing a more important role then to 2009. The Italians continue there good season run this year with Italian teams leading both classes. Saturday morning trials was also marked again by another terrible incident to the Super Sport Nor-tech Spirit of Beglium boat which nose dipped at 83 mph and left bad injuries to both Patrick and Shelley Jory.
EVOLUTION CLASS
Round 5
After not participating in the Friday Powerpole due to a blown Turbo, the competition was surely surprised to see a 60 Metamarine who from last position on the start run challenged second place on the first buoy turn, and after round six overtook the retiring engine troubled 33 Furnibo Fountain, going again to a dominant run. Second place for an always improving 77 Lucas Oil. Third place for the awaited return of the 55 Ukrainian Spirit Chaudron now with new more powerful Mercury engines. A not so good fourth place for the 2009 and 2006 champion OSG team 88 SNAV, who surely know that if they want to challenge Metamarine they have to do better then this. Finally 47 Silverline managed to cross the finish line, and with a three minutes distance in the nine laps course may be there is hope for a better performance in the races to come. Cranefields Wine German Searex powerboat had a slow performance considering there recent improvements in Malta, and in the Friday Powerpole. Retirement for the fast Fountain 33 Furnibo who before retiring on lap 6 was turning all laps under the four minute barrier, something only the diesel 60 Metamarine also managed for four laps, and 88 SNAV Kiton once on the third lap.
1. 60 Metamarine Foresti Sguardi = 9 laps 34:22,04
2. 77 Lucas Oil Scandinavian Offshore Challenge = 35:54,11
3. 55 Ukrainian Spirit = 36,21,24
4. 88 SNAV - Kiton = 36:48,45
5. 47 Silverline = 37:34,31
6. 66 Cranefields Wine - Carconnex = 41:28,71
7. 33 Furnibo = RET 6 laps
Round 6
It was a similar start to the Saturday Sprint race, with the two faster boats going head to head on the turning of the first buoy, but with the Belgian Fountain 33 Furnibo taking the inside of the turn and a better position to lead the race from start to finish. A display of strength and speed was followed by the Belgian team doing nine of the thirteen laps under the four minute barrier, including a weekend fastest three minutes 49.84 seconds. But the fast Belgian Fountain better watch its back all times as the reliable and fast Italian diesel monster 60 Metamarine replied with a similar fashion doing six laps under the four minutes barrier, its best being a three minutes 51,19 seconds. The second place of 60 Metamrine also meant a second overall Grand Prix win, following the one in Malta for the big Italian diesel powerboat, along with more points collected which increased its title advantage on the competition. Third position for the 2010 built 43 feet Chaudron who showed good composure and skill in the Poltu Quatu Grand Prix taking two important third place podium finishes. A race of frustration for Team OSG and the 2009 Championship winner 43 feet Outerlimits, who finished fourth on retirement on the thirteenth lap, and a two minute jump start penalty. Retirements for 77 Lucas Oil who still cant make a complete weekend after such a good race on Saturday, and 47 Silverline who continue there 2010 reliability issues. The 66 Cranefields Searex did not manage to start the race.
1. 33 Furnibo = 14 laps 54:01,98
2. 60 Metamarine Foresti Sguardi = 54:50,39
3. 55 Ukrainian Spirit = 57:34,80
4. 88 SNAV - Kiton = 54:21,51 -1 laps + 2:00 Jump Start Penalty
5. 77 Lucas Oil Scandinavian Offshore Challenge = RET 11 laps
6. 47 Silverline = RET 1 lap
7. 66 Cranefields Wine - Carconnex = DNS
SUPERSPORT CLASS
Round 5
After years of hard work the determination of Team Al&Al paid up, and finally we see the 22 Big Sergio make it to the top of the podium. The race also featured a very nice overtaking to the 43 Seagull Chaudron who finished second. Third place for 81 Karelpiu who actually where first, but finished demoted after receiving a thirty seconds over speeding penalty. 38 Baia Attolini and the 38 feet Donzi finished fourth. The diesel FPT powered 06 Jolly Drive after a month of hard work following Malta finished a point collecting fifth place. Not so good a start of a sixth place for the new much awaited Pantera 41 of Ocean Dragon Racing the 08 Asia 2011-15. No start for the 43 feet Nor-Tech which apparently disintegrated in a terrible nose dip on the morning practice leaving both pilots badly injured. The fast 38 feet Donzi Team 26 did not make it to Sardinia though in its absence we had three Italian teams competing for the Italian circuit; Saho 59 Chrisden a known 38 feet Donzi which competed in 2008, 18 Pratiko, and Angelo Tedeschi 44 Kenon Cafe which is the 2007 and 2008 Supersport Champion boat.
1. 22 Big Sergio = 8 laps 34:32,75
2. 43 Seagull Chaudron = 34:38,45
3. 81 Karelpiu = 34:28,86 + 30 seconds over speeding Penalty

5. 06 Jolly Drive = 37:23,54
6. 08 Asia 2011-15 = 38:20,34
7. 17 Spirit of Belgium = DNS
Round 6
38 Baia Attolini did a similar run to what they did in Malta a month ago dominating the round six Poltu Quatu Endurance race for thirteen laps. Second place for Big Sergio who with it take Poltu Quatu overall win, and reduce the gap to the 38 feet Donzi of Baia Attolini to only 29 points. A very successful weekend for Team Al&Al which was also celebrated by the signing of a new sponsor deal. Another third place for the fast 81 Karelpiu Fountain, but this time no surprise penalty to demote this very good performing rookie team. Fourth place for the 41 feet Seagull Chaudron. No start for three boats; the diesel powered 06 Jolly Drive, the new 41 feet Pantera 08 Asia 2011-15, and the Saturday accident 43 feet Nor-Tech 17 Spirit of Belgium. The three Italian teams which competed in the Italian series had a retirement on lap 8 for 18 Pratiko, a slow run for the Saho 59 Chrisden which finished two laps behind, and a good race by Team Racing Project 44 Kenon Cafe which made to all remember its glory days.
1. 38 Baia Attolini = 13 laps 57:57,90
2. 22 Big Sergio = 58:03,30

Projects: Arcadia 135, Arcadia 115

Arcadia Yachts continues its innovative inspiration by presenting two bigger projects to its first 85 model. Pictured above is the largest of the projects the 135, which is to be the flagship from this South Italy, Neapolitan boat builder. As the rendering above shows the 135 is another innovative project with a three deck explorer yacht feel to it. As is expected solar panels will be another theme of the 135, just as it is for the 85. Accommodation for the 135 will be a five guest cabin, with the owners stateroom on the main deck. The crew will have also four double bunk cabins to fore, a personal lobby, and a captains room on the upper deck just behind the pilot house. The 135 will have a full displacement hull. After delivering the first 85 in the fall of 2009, hull two in early 2010, three being put into the water in this time, and four currently in construction, the Arcadia 115 will be the second model, not only in size but also to be presented by this Naples builder. Arcadia advised us that the tooling for the 115 has started early this Spring and the yard is hoping for an owner in order to pursue the construction of this model with the hope of a 2011 delivery. With the 115 Guida Engineering keeps the hybrid evolution as seen on the 85 with a sporty explorer feel to the exterior looks. Considering this is a three deck yacht this is no small task. Again spaces are abundant everywhere on the 115 with the upper third deck having record breaking sizes. Accommodation is for a five or four cabin lower deck, plus an owner stateroom on the main deck. The 115 also offers an interesting entertainment area with pool on the fore deck. The 115 will also again feature the Green attitude of the 85 with Solar panels everywhere, electric propulsion available on request, black water treatment, and zero speed stabilization. Power for the 115 will be from twin MAN 1224hp.

Powerboat GPS - Poltu Quatu Powerpole

Powerboats return to the white island that is Sardinia after a very long time. Who does remember the long endurance race like the Viareggio Bastia held in the sixties, seventies, and being abandoned in the late eighties when Class 1 started to change. But since then such yards as Bruno Abbate do hold their yearly race in Poltu Quatu. The weekend started in sunshine with a bit of swell, and usual big boats waves from the huge traffic the famous Emerald Coast has.
EVOLUTION
In Evolution Class the Fountain Furnibo continued to show its Powerpole, taking its consecutive Powerpole of the year, after Yalta. The nimble Fountain is proofing to be the fastest boat in this year circuit, now is to see if this will this be enough to beat the diesel monster staying in front of the championship. Second place with over seven seconds delay for the German Searex 66 Cranefields Wine, which has shown an improving performance ever since this season started. Third time for the new Chaurdon 43 feet, which here competed with the new much awaited more powerful Mercruiser engines in replacement to Ilmor's. Fourth place for the Vector 77 Lucas Oil with a fifteen seconds delay from the first. A fifth place which apart the time which was a seventeen seconds delay from the leader surely had to celebrate for completing its first power pole. No pole for what are the other two faster boats, the championship leading diesel powered 60 Metamarine, and the 2009 Champion 88 SNAV-Kiton.
SUPERSPORT
It was a big and pleasant surprise to see Angelo Tedeschi with the 2007, and 2008 title winner 41 feet Chaudron hull 44 Kenon Caffe taking the Powerpole of Poltu Quatu. In the 90 mph speed limited class we had a few guests from the Italian championship, which obviously adds to the show of the sport. Second place and less to a second late for the always faster Fountain 81 Karelpiu. Third place for current championship leader the Donzi of 38 Baia Attolini. Nine seconds late and fourth for the Ukrainain helmed 2009 Champion boat Seagull Chaudron. Another Italian competitor what is another Donzi 38 feet powered with stern drives the 59 Crisden came fifth in a seventeen seconds late run. Sixth for the diesel powered Jolly Drive. Four boats did not compete the Nortech 17 Spirit of Belgium which stands third in the championship tables, the Outerlimits SV40 of 22 Big Sergio, the Italian Championship competitor Adriatic sea built ZL 43 feet number 18 Pratiko, and the much waited 08 Asia2011-15 new Pantera 41.

Improve-it = Cerri 10,40 mt Tender

Cerri has just recently launched hull number six of the ten metre plus Tender model. At just over 34 feet the Cerri Tender is the entry level model which is a hard stretch from the bigger Super Yacht sisters that are the 86 Flying Sport, and 102 Flying Sport. For the history Cerri started with a small innovative walk around Sport Cruiser in 1997, with the 28 Sport designed by De Casa which the builder still build to order as of 2007. The number six of the Cerri Tender will be powered by twin Suzuki outboards of 300hp each, which deliver a 45 knots top speed and an important 350 nautical miles range at cruise. Construction is as the bigger models semi custom, with high grade Vinilester, and Isoftalic resins being used to a CE B standard. A spacious bathroom with entrance from the fore part of the central console is available below. The Cerri Tender is also tailor made for what regards colors, interior layout, and hard top choice. As has been the philosophy of Cerri, this Italian builder will do the best to accommodate the clients requests. Worth of note that the Cerri Tender has also a very competitive price considering the level of quality and customization of this unique ten meter sports boat.

New Model: Grand Banks 53 Aleutian RP

Grand Banks presents its latest new model with the launch of the much expected 53 Aleutian RP. This new Aleutian is the smallest Explorer Yacht built in this range from Grand Banks, and as you read this hull number three is under construction of what looks to become a successful model. As all Grand Banks and most of all the Aleutian series, the 53 RP represents a good compromise of classic looks with a modern feeling to the overall planning of the spaces. On the 53 Aleutian RP lower accommodation deck you find modern amenities as a full beam owners stateroom, spacious VIP suite, and a third bunk guest cabin. All this without missing two large storage rooms further aft to the midship owners cabin, which is testament to the Explorer Yacht heritage of each new Grand Banks. The main deck as any Grand Banks is spacious too, representing a real living area with a split level saloon that feels coming from a larger yacht. Spaces are abundant in all the 53 Aleutian RP from a large spacious flybridge, to ship like wide side decks, and engine room. This is thanks to a fat beam just short of five metres and a half. Power is from a standard Cummins 593hp, up to an optional choice of 705hp Cats which give a 22 knots top speed.
Technical Data:
LOA - 17.61 m (57.9ft)
Waterline Length - 15.02 m
Beam - 5.40 m
Draft - 1.45 m
Displacement - 33113kg half load

Project: Azimut 64

During the Azimut-Benetti Group recent fourth Yachting gala held in Port Cantou, Cannes, the largest private owned power boat builder presented the Azimut 64 of the flybridge line. This new project is the natural heir and replacement of the 62 presented in 2002, updated as Evolution in 2007 with a sales success of over two hundred units in a model life span of less then eight years. From the old 62, the new 64 gains one feet in length thanks to the high low platform, half feet of more beam, heavier displacement by about four tons, bigger engines, and a similar 17 degrees Vee deadrise hull. Designed by Righini for the exterior lines this new Azimut follows recent trends as seen in the newer models from the Italian builder, as the extended with hydraulic lift bathing platform, squared bow, opening vertical windows in the full beam owners stateroom, larger view windows on the main deck, and a single level saloon. The Azimut 64 will also be advanced to what regards construction being built with Carbon fiber, and infusion process delivering an advanced built standard with lower weight and more strength which has given to this new model a CE A certification versus the B rating of the old 62. The interior will be a three cabin layout, with all cabin having there own personal shower heads. A big question here persists me if Azimut did miss a chance to make a twenty metre motor yacht with four cabins version. A spacious two person aft crew cabin among the largest in this size completes the sleeping quarters of the 64. Power will be from twin Cat 1150hp, which means 135hp more then the 62 it replaces.

Powerboat GPS - Poltu Quato Preview

Rounds 5 and 6 of the UIM 2010 World Championship Grand Prix of the sea is just couple days away. Poltu Quato on the beautiful island of Sardinia is the place to be for the next offshore powerboat races held from 9 till July 11th 2010. The schedule is the usual with boats arriving in the wonderful Poltu Quatu Yacht harbour in the Smerld Coast tomorrow Thursday, Powerpole on Friday afternoon, Sprint race on Saturday, and Endurance on Sunday.
This race just sits in the middle of the championship, so it will be curious to see if the balances shown in the first four races will be broken. The Grand Prix of Poltu Quatu is also valid for the Italian Championship, so some wild cards from Italy will also be present in this race.
A new contender will also be coming in Supersport with the much expected new boat from Ocean Dragon racing, the new 8 Pantera Racing challenge. Martin Lai who is team boss will be driving alongside builder Pantera boats boss Jo Nunez. Martin switched from a Formula 38 to a totally new Pantera 41 fitted with twin Mercury 525EFi.

INBUILD ~ Galeon 385 HT Part 2 of 7

Part two of Galeon 385 HT construction journey. For this second series we are seeing the tooling being ready for the super structure of the 385 model. As it is expected this super structure can easily accommodate the Open version. Not shown in the plans but discovered with the tooling picture above is that a garage will be located under the aft C-shaped settee. This is very unusual in a boat this size especially when this is a two cabin sport cruiser, with Galeon opting for a garage versus the more used extended bathing platform usually featured. I can also see a place for a fully retractable telescopic passarelle to starboard another unusual accessory for a 38 footer. An aggressive dropping curved shear line is also shown in this photo, remarking Tony Castro sports nature design for the 385 HT.

Class 1 - 2010 Revised Calendar

The International Offshore Team Association (IOTA) has issued a revised calendar for the 2010 season, confirming 12 races at six Grands Prix with the exclusion of the Romanian Grand Prix. IOTA received notification from the Romanian Grand Prix organiser, Power Marine’s Ionut Barbu, that due to the current economic climate in Romania they were unable to secure the funding for this year’s event but stated that they remain confident that the situation will change and next year should be back on the Class 1 calendar. As is normal IOTA was disappointed with this news though fully understanding the financial pressures facing the organiser in Romania. Power Marine Ionut Barbu and his team have staged three very successful events in Romania, and obviously IOTA and Class One hope to return racing the East European country in 2011.

Improve-it = Moonen 97

Moonen Shipyards in the Netherlands has launched the third yacht in its impressive line of thirty metre steel hulled displacement cruisers. Named Livia, this new Moonen 97 is distinguished by a truly original New England American Beach House interior from Art-Line. Livia was styled by René van der Velden, who has created a sleek low-profile exterior with an elegant flared bow, a sloping stern with twin stairways, a graceful sheer line and bold fashion plates. The round bilged hull from the boards of Diana Yacht Design ensures exceptional comfort at sea, while the economical shaping combines tanks for some 28,000 litres of fuel to give Livia an impressive transatlantic range. Owners and guests enjoy the most peaceful of cruises thanks to a comprehensive sound and vibration attenuation programme. In addition to deploying the finest noise absorbing insulation, Moonen has eliminated vibration at source by giving the yacht's highly skewed propeller fifty percent more clearance between the blade tip and hull surface. Livia is also exceptionally comfortable at anchor thanks to the installation of advanced Naiad zero-speed stabilizers. Moonen is known for its impeccable engineering and construction, and this Lloyd's Registered and MCA approved yacht once again proves why. One of the highlights of Livia's aluminium superstructure is the efficient flying bridge, part of a clear policy to maximize the pleasures of Al fresco living on board this yacht. The interior offers spacious accommodations for the owners and six guests. The master stateroom boasts a walk-in closet of unusually generous proportions. There is also a delightful VIP stateroom plus two guest suites, all with their own bathrooms. The Moonen 97 is an evolutionary design based on two prior Moonen yachts: The semi-series 84 and the custom-built 96 Clementine. The first two Moonen 97s were Darsea and Sofia II, while a fourth model is set for delivery beginning 2011.

Quality

The always discussed quality term is so different these days. You have to do some dock talking and see the difference between boat owner one who does all on his own, and the modern new yacht owner two. Quality for boat owner one who had been on the water for over a decade, is to have easily accessible areas where he can do the job himself, and has less complicated electronic stuff. On the other part many new modern generation boat owners from the last ten years concentrate more on after sales service and in which timely manner the company he spent his cash on resolves his problems.
This change in mentality represents new boat buyers who usually choose a yacht also on the basis of after sales service offered from the various brands. In yacht heaven areas as South of France, Balearic Islands, Florida, Sardinia, Croatia etc it is also normal to see repair yards representing builders where they have a good client base. I remember a trip I did back in Sardinia in 2008 where in the entrance to Olbia harbour you can see service centres for the most sold brands for this World famous cruising area. In fact over two dozen of brands are represented there.
Guarantee and how a builder assists a client has also been on the agenda of the buyers for some time. But in the last ten years this has taken a new shape with the boat buyer being a busy businessman and requesting more then to the past. Meaning that when it is time for his yacht, this has to be all functional and ready to go. That is why a dealer is today given care taking of the vessel during the non usage time. Some renowned builders also offer a replacement vessel service. It is interesting to see this change especially in the medium large forty to sixty feet size where unlike the past a crew used to be given full responsibility, but nowadays it is more the dealer who keeps the vessel, with persons being employed only for short time cleaning duties during the summer time.

Azimut Benetti Group Fourth Yachting Gala

Azimut-Benetti Group goes to Cannes for the fourth Yachting Gala, the most exclusive and prestigious private boat show. 25 boats from the three Group brands; Azimut Yachts, Atlantis and Benetti available for the one thousand plus guests arriving from all over the world, both for sea-going trials and an exclusive cruise to the Lérins Islands. During this unique event Azimut also presented the first preview of the new Azimut 64. After Varazze and Viareggio, Azimut-Benetti Group has chosen the international charm of the Cote d'Azur for the fourth Yachting Gala, the now traditional event that attracts over one thousand visitors from every corner of the world, every year. They're drawn by the amazing opportunity to take part in a real private boat show: two days jam-packed with surprises and events. This year, the event programme was inspired by the atmosphere of the most exclusive yachting clubs: dream boats on course for islands set in crystal-clear waters, elegant breakfasts on the beach, candle-lit dinners just a stone's throw from the sea. Additionally there will be a gala evening with night-time yacht parade, a Gloria Gaynor concert and, as a finale, a dance party right on the beach. It's in this wonderful context that the company has chosen to present its latest addition: the Azimut 64, a yacht over 20 metres in length, the natural successor to the Azimut 62, a model that has had unprecedented sales success, with 200 sold across the world. The Azimut 64, probably the most complete flybridge in its category, is distinguished by its stylistic innovation, exceptional safety levels and excellent sailing qualities. In Port Canto, the guests of the Yachting Gala, which this year sees a significant number of visitors from Brazil, the emerging luxury boat target market, had a fleet of 25 boats at their disposal for visits and sea-going trials. There was also a romantic cruise towards the Lérins Islands just off the coast, where a visit was planned to the famous Cistercian monastery of Notre Dame de Lérins. The luxurious, exclusive atmosphere of this year's Yachting Gala was further enhanced by the top level partners who have chosen to contribute to the success of the event: BMW; Damiani; Lavazza; Montblanc; La Perla; Pratesi; Wills, the luxury car hire firm; artists Serge Van de Put and Rodolfo Viola; Foglizzo, creator of luxury leather furniture; Cantine Scrimaglio; haute couture stylist Marco Contiello; MTU, manufacturer of advanced diesel engines and the Private Banking division of Intesa Sanpaolo. Azimut-Benetti is the leading and most prestigious builder of mega yachts in the world. The Group, which owns the prestigious brands Azimut Yachts, Benetti and Atlantis (each targeting a specific area of the nautical market) as well as Fraser Yachts, a leading brand in the services sector, operates in 67 countries worldwide via a sales network of 138 offices.

Sessa New Designations

Sessa turns to the future with optimism and determination with fresh ideas for the upcoming season backed by strong industrial management, as has been in place for the past two years. Having been lead for over 50 years by Raffaella Radice who has been a key asset to the yard and who has no doubt contributed in making Sessa an industry leader, today the yard is being newly reorganized, reaching for improvement and growth of our entire industry. Therefore, Raffaella, although still remaining president, will support Massimo Radice as the newly nominated CEO and Riccardo Radice as the new Vice-President. Having been Sessa Industrial and Product Director, for many years, 44 year old Massimo Radice’s role will be to create and follow up on our vision for the future, to promote development and fulfill our ambitious financial goals. The new Vice President, Riccardo Radice, will continue in his key role leading the marketing team along with be in charge of the “product style”. At the same time, he will lead the expansion of Sessa in Europe, our core market, along with be in charge of the “product style”. At the same time, he will lead the expansion of Sessa in Europe, our core market, along with new markets across the world. Our reorganization plan means that Sessa can also proudly announce the arrival of Alfredo Cofano into the group and who will lead our industrial management. Having been for many years at the renowned Riva shipyard, where he developed a precise system of industrialization, Alfredo Cofano is proud of his wealth of experience in the industrial sector at both the national and International levels. His skills and unique approach to organization mean that he is the perfect candidate to guide and push forth Sessa’s, into more competitive sectors, as was seen with last year’s launch of the flagship C68 and of the first Fly-Bridge model. The arrival of Cofano further confirms Sessa’s goal to continue with a management strategy started two years ago with the arrival of a new management team: Andrea Loro, who was previously the Commercial Director of Yamaha Motors Marine Italia; Sophie Dupuy, who comes from leading French Yacht builder, as the Communications Manager; and last year, Paolo Maggioni, as the Administrative and Financial Director, whose experience comes from working with multinationals in the industrial and media sector. 2010 also will see the launch of new products, once again highlighting the strong investment that Sessa has and continues to put into practice. This strategy remains so even during times of economic hardship, where quality and innovation still represent the key for the next few years to allow for growth and expansion. The six new products are part of Sessa Marine’s three ranges, from the Key Largo to the cruiser range with the launch of the highly successful C35’s successor as well as two new yachts of 48 and 54 feet. Our forecast for next year, starting in September at Cannes, is positive and foresees an economic growth due in part to the launch of six new models and the expansion into new markets in developing countries. In the near future, work in Catanzaro will begin to expand the production facilities. There will be an area for technical and logistic offices (400 m2) and a new plant of 2500 m2 dedicated solely to fiberglass lamination. This plant will be equipped with a pressurized painting booth for applying metallic paints, along with hi-tech technologies for infusion and vacuum laminating processes.

Project: Gamma 20

It is surprising that in these difficult times new brands keep coming challenging over a decade old brand or makers with a new line of yachts. The Italians have been fluent in this stream of new builders cropping up, but seeing them born in this slowing economy time is always impressive. Gamma Yachts was founded in 2008 and the Gamma 20 is the first of its projects of a four model line up which will start from a sixteen metre and go up to a one hundred feet plus Super Yacht. The Gamma 20 looks a bit like the Ken Freivokh and Bill Dixon designed Azimut 74 Magellano presented on the fall of 2009, but unlike the other Italian this project which is currently under construction will be built of steel. Design is by the Dutch Vripack who also introduce to this new model a unique more production orientated method of steel assembly called Smart Constructions which should reduce building times. Accommodation for the Gamma 20 is for a three guest cabin with aft owner suite and VIP cabin to fore, and a two berth crew quarters. Standard power is from twin Yanmar 650hp, with three other options available going up to a max of 900hp, which should give a max speed of 18 knots.

New Model: Galeon 700 Raptor Skydeck

Skydeck is the new sport flybridge version for the Galeon 700 Raptor introduced a year ago. A must request accessory which follows what designer Nuvolari Lenard offered first on the Palmer Johnson in 2002. Only Sunseeker do in fact offer this option on a smaller model with the 64 Predator introduced in the fall of 2008. Clever in the design thanks to Polish genius the ladder to go for the Skydeck retracts in the extended flybridge aft becoming invisible to the eye and freeing the main deck. The 700 Raptor Skydeck offers a central helm with two J-shaped loungers sunpads to both sides. While in the project of the 700 Raptor Skydeck Castro and Galeon engineers also tweaked the original lower deck plan, now offering also a two person crew cabin with head aft, an option also offered on the standard 700 Raptor version.

Project: Riva 33ft Aquariva by Marc Newson

In a unique collaboration, Marc Newson has partnered with Riva and their official designers, Officina Italiana Design, to reinterpret the Aquariva speed boat. 'Aquariva by Marc Newson' will be launched as a limited edition of 22 units in September 2010, available worldwide through Gagosian Gallery. Newson's design for the Aquariva vessel is unique in its conception, as well as the materials chosen. A wood-like, textile-based laminate (phenolic composite) was used for the deck area and instrument panel. This material was developed in the first half of the 20th century, and was a precursor to fibreglass. While having an ostensibly organic feel and aesthetic, it is significantly more durable than wood. To give the exterior a more high tech look, Newson utilized anodized aluminium, a material not generally associated with boats; this lightweight material is used in lieu of stainless steel and chrome brass, yet remains contextual among Riva’s glamour and classical design. Respecting the DNA of the original project created by Officina Italiana Design was paramount to Newson's design for Aquariva. With this in mind, some of the changes he makes are truly innovative: the re-imagining of the transom, the wrap-around, laminated glass windscreen, the split cabin door entry, the functionality of the lounge and dining area, and the re-introduction of separate driver and passenger seats. Aquariva by Marc Newson's simplicity and functionality are what make the boat truly extraordinary. The end product of Newson's design is an uprated Riva complete with a bow thruster and state-of-the-art electronic transmission.

New Model: Arcadia 85

A new Italian yacht builder Arcadia attacks the market with a totally modern concept where innovation is featured in every aspect of the design for this Super Sport Yacht which also gets to confusion where to categorize it. You can call it sports for its lack of flybridge and large open spaces, or explorer for its green attitude and semi planning hull, or may be the Arcadia 85 which is the first of a three model line up is just a way of expressing modern design and cross over styles taking it much further then the others do. The Arcadia 85 will also offer more spaces then conventional similar sized yachts: it can be configured in a five or four cabin layout below, and if desired can also have a day head on the main deck. The galley, dining area are all on the main deck, while the innovative helm is located to the fore peak of the living area. Not to forget that the aft deck of the Arcadia 85 is as spacious as ever and may be not even a yacht double its size offers as much space in this area. Power for the Arcadia 85 is from twin MAN 720hp engines, and other smart intelligent ideas are a good number of solar panels which recharge the batteries, and zero speed stabilization by Rodriguez Marine.

Hunton New Web Site

British Hunton Powerboats presents its new virtual showroom following its ownership change by Arkle Partners LLP as January of this year. Hunton Powerboats was founded by Jeff Hunton in 1979 trough passion and dedication on the race course. A boat enthusiast Jeff Hunton started his work experience as an engineering apprentice, and moved on to head of systems and design with Hi-Flex International in the 1960s. In 1975 he enters boat racing, and in his first full season he becomes UK Offshore Boating Association Champion in Class II with a Levi designed hull, which he stripped, re-decked, and completely refitted himself. With this success comes confidence and following this in 1979 Jeff starts Hunton Powerboats with the first model the 23 Gazelle, which a year later takes the crown as Cruiser Class A champion in the 1980 British Offshore Powerboat Championship. The success on the race course is followed in the eighties decade with various races win, till the sports decline in the nineties which forces Hunton for a switch of strategy but none the less a prideful one taking contracts for Royal Gibraltar Police, and the Abu Dhabi Defence Force. Today the new Hunton ownership keeps Jeff Hunton as Head of Design, Martin Paye as Head of Sales, and new recruitment Michael Moriarty as Managing director. The current Hunton line up has three models the 43 XRS flagship, 37 XRS, and the new model 1005 Rib scheduled for launch in this year fall. The company has also two further concepts at work the 38 XRS, and the Project Barracuda. Hunton's new website takes you around with the following buttons: Home, The Boats, Heritage, Press, Boat Shows, Brokerage, Agents and Distributors.

New Model: Princess V52

Thanks to one of our dedicated readers we feature first shots of Princess new V52. A waited model which continues the French management over haul of this renowned British marque. The new V52 is so far the smallest in the V series range to be available with today's most wanted enclosed patio door and hard top system combo on a Sports Yacht. Considering that some of the Southern Europe and Scandinavian builders offer this on ten metres boats may be the British builder is a bit late here. A bonus of the V52 is that thanks to the patio door it features three dedicated socializing saloons; aft, inside, and below. This last will be lost if one decides to go with the optional three cabins version. Hull number one pictured above was a two stateroom format, and our friend also thinks that the third cabin replacing the lower deck L-shaped sofa will be a smallish affair. Nothing new here as many sub sixteen metres full beam cabin boats do in fact have small third cabins. The other cabins are the full beam midship being the owners suite, and a VIP double to fore with a scissor function which makes it a two single berths in a beat. Below you also get a good sized nicely planned L-shaped galley. For tender stowage the V52 has a high low bathing platform aft. Power will be from twin Volvo 670hp engines which give top speeds of 35 knots. The new V52 is also proof that Princess don't wanna mess with pod propulsion, as this model was suited to the use of latest generation drives. Construction is not announced in the site although Princess have been tooling all latest new models to vacuum bagging infusion method. Considering a not so heavy thirteen tons weight this just might be the case for the new V52.
