Improve-it = Kadey-Krogen 48 North Sea
Kadey-Krogen has been building the 48 North Sea since 1996 and over the years, like all the models, it has evolved and changed as a result of owner feedback and advancements in technology. The 48 North Sea remains one of the most popular models and today’s new improved version is the embodiment of the company’s competencies. Owner feedback was the driving force in changes made to the 48 North Sea all of which enhance the live ability of the boat. The centerpiece of the improved 48 North Sea is the newly enlarged galley which now features a four-burner Viking range, household sized refrigeration as standard, and there is room for a trash compactor and dishwasher as optionals. Stainless steel is standard on the appliances although traditional finishes are available. Kadey-Krogen also completely re engineered the flybridge. Instead of a center line helm flanked by settees running fore and aft, the flybridge piloting station is now off to starboard with an L-shaped settee to port that extends the entertainment space of the boat and makes cruising on the flybridge more comfortable for guests. The flybridge also has a summer kitchen, a feature that contributes to the boat’s self-sufficient capabilities and is popular with owners who entertain on the hook. The second reinvented and improved 48 North Sea is underway to the East Coast for owners Will and Sue Parry who believe this boat will bring them full circle in their fifth Kadey-Krogen experience, and the first arrived in Seattle last fall.
Project: Pearl 75
British Pearl Yachts presents the project of a new flagship, with the renderings showcasing a 75 model. Surprising its fan and competitors this new flagship project abandons the very British aft cabin design as seen on the previous Pearl models. The Pearl 75 brings together large spaces with luxurious styling and outstanding levels of comfort, added with easy manoeuvrability, a rather large flybridge, jet ski garage, and a hydraulic bathing platform. Vast areas of glass surfaces maximise natural light in the saloon, galley and internal helm areas creating bright, open spaces. While large rectangular bonded glass port lights flood the cabins with sunlight by day, and moonlight by night. The Pearl 75 boasts a standard four cabin eight berth guest interior where multiple layout and styling options ensure each yacht is created to meet personal requirements. Power options are still under confirmation but quadruple pod units are under huge consideration, although this is still to be confirmed. If that will be case this will be the first European build flybridge motor yacht to be powered in this manner. Estimated speeds are for a max of 32 knots, a cruise of 25 knots, and a medium range of 350 nautical miles.Wednesday, January 27, 2010
New Model: Beneteau 34 Swift Trawler S
As has been from Beneteau in recent times, the 1884 founded French builder innovates and offers different versions to its models. This is the case with the 34 Swift Trawler S, which is a 34 Swift Trawler but without the second helm flybridge up top. Yes as the above pictures shows you still have ladder to go up top, but that is because the 34 Swift Trawler S has made space use above for storage space, or a sun bathing one. The 34 Swift Trawler S thanks to its lower height can also be an ideal inland water ways canal explorer cruiser. For the remaining of it the 34 Swift Trawler S is the same as the standard fall of 2009 introduced flybridge version, offering four berths in two cabins below, additional extra two berths in the saloon, and 21 knots top speed with a single engine. Technical Data:

Project: Pacific S 185
Pacific Shipyards from Holland continue to upgrade its S model line up with a new 185 currently in project. The S is one of four of the Pacific range, the other being the P, Allure and Pearl each of these having its own characteristics. Pacific are build in steel or alloy material. The Pacific S line has currently two models, the 175 and 205 and with this new 185 the Dutch builder intends to build on them to enrich the range. The accommodation of the 185 will offer four double cabins and heads. Pretty impressive for an eighteen metre motor yacht. The large owners suite will be located aft, to fore is a VIP suite, a double guest cabin, and the smaller double bunk berth. The living and pilot house is located on the main deck, and features a relaxing saloon upon entrance, and dining table in its fore part. Weighing at 43 tons the Prestige S 185 will be certified to CE A standards. Tuesday, January 26, 2010
New Model: Viking 76 Enclosed Bridge
Hot on the heels of the success of the new 76 Convertible, which premiered at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show the fall of 2009, Viking has launched the first 76 Enclosed Bridge. This new enclosed flying bridge for the 76 Convertible offers a raised control station forward and a second pod style helm on the aft deck for docking. A Stidd helm seat at the forward interior station is flanked with companion seats port and starboard. Creating what is essentially a second salon, the expansive area abaft the helm includes an L-shaped lounge with a cocktail table on a raised platform for enhanced visibility, a 32-inch flat screen television, which rises out of the teak cabinetry, an audio system, a refrigerator with built-in icemaker, plush carpeting and a baby ostrich headliner. A weatherproof lockable door leads to the aft deck with additional seating, quartz lighting molded into the aft overhang and powder coated aluminum railing on the aft deck and flying bridge ladder from the cockpit mezzanine. A teak stairway from the salon provides all weather access to the enclosed helm area. The new 76 Enclosed Bridge is slated to be introduced during a private showing at the fourteenth Annual Viking VIP Miami Boat Show Preview in Riviera Beach, Florida, at the Viking Yacht Service Center at the end of Januray, and after this it will have its World premiere at the Miami Boat Show in mid February. Featuring five staterooms, including a full-beam master suite, this first launch of the 76 Enclosed Bridge is powered with a pair of 2,400hp MTU 16V Series 2000 M93 diesels, which deliver a mid 30 knot cruise and a top end approaching 40 knots. Project: Absolute 50 Fly
Italian Absolute continue its New Wave thinking and surprise its competitors and clients by presenting a flybridge motor yacht project with the 50 Fly. This new model will also be the initiative of a new Fly line from Absolute, so expect more to come from the North Italian builder and be assured that after this one is launched during the coming fall, it will soon be followed by a full line of flybridge boats in a couple of years. The interior layout is for a living on the main deck with galley, saloon, and three double cabins below. The layout is surprising for the fact that the owners suite is to fore. I am sure that seeing the big view windows to midship you would have thought otherwise. A VIP stateroom, the double cabin to midship, and a guest head complete the lower deck layout. Absolute is also thinking for extra comfort in its first motor yacht by offering a hard top on the flybridge, crew cabin, and a hydraulic up and down platform as standard. As expected from Absolute the 50 Fly will be powered by Volvo IPS600 in a standard twin version, or a more performing triple engine choice. The North Italian Absolute has huge experience with the use of Volvo IPS pods, being one of the early users and the first to put a triple engine set up on its 56. Today IPS pods drive seven out of eight in its current line up, all this being well promising for the performance of this flybridge motor yacht project. Monday, January 25, 2010

Project: Jet Tern Selene 86 Ocean Explorer
Jet Tern Marine is continues its expansion of the ocean trawlers line presenting the project and designs for the new Selene 86 Ocean Explorer. The new design is the result of an international collaboration of designers and architects under Howard Chen’s team leadership. Working closely with renowned Dutch naval architect Guido de Groot and other international consultants, Jet Tern Marine has developed a contemporary take on the long range yacht. The Selene 86 is the largest design in the fleet and is part of the Ocean Explorer series. The new 86 will be built with solid reinforced fiberglass construction applied with vacuum resin infusion, and will have ocean going capability, low fuel consumption, and extensive range. The Ocean Explorer models also have a high level of luxury and super yacht styling. The Selene 86 resembles her sister ships in that the design features a raised pilothouse, Portuguese bridge, and bulbous bow. However, this new flagship from Jet Tern has more contemporary exterior lines as well as the addition of large side windows in the hull, and stainless steel anchor pockets which is a departure from other Selene models. The blend of the traditional full displacement hull with modern design details and interior appointments qualify the new Selene 86 Ocean Explorer as a true luxury long range yacht. Inside, the Selene 86 boasts four staterooms each with an en suite head. Though this boat could be handled by a couple thanks to sophisticated systems, crew quarters are integral to the design. Jet Tern anticipates that the 86 Ocean Explorer will appeal to existing Selene owners who have expressed interest in a larger Selene model with more of a luxury yacht feel. The Selene 86 Ocean Explorer is designed to carry 15,000 litres of fuel and cruise comfortably at 10 knots with a top speed of 13 knots. Tank tests are under way and Jet Tern describes the boat as very fuel efficient for her class. Standard power will be supplied by twin Cummins 610hp engines and sophisticated fuel polishing and fuel monitoring systems are also standard features. Molds for the Selene 86 are under construction and hull number one is expected to launch in time to debut at the fall of 2011.Friday, January 22, 2010
New Model: Colombo 26 Bellagio
Colombo present the first boat of the new sport line, and second to be presented by new owners Sarnico Group after the launch of the 37 Alldays. Launched in the fall of 2009 the new 26 Bellagio is a big little boat because it offers everything you may desire in a limited space to spend pleasant time on board. As any Colombo this new model is a real luxury product, unmatchable for the original and delicate preciousness of the carving wood and the varnishing, skilfully combined in a mix of materials and colours that arouses wonder. The stern is closed by an electric door that transforms into a swimming platform that becomes a convenient gangway to the dock. On the deck there are a sofa, a wet bar and a refrigerator. The seat next to the pilot’s is provided with an adjustable backrest that permits to sit counter march to practice water skiing sport. The aft sun pad is perfectly made, so that the cushions contribute to make the livery of the motorboat magnificent. Under the bow deck is a cabin with a king size double berth with bathroom which at seven metres makes this small sport cruiser rather unique. Teak and mahogany adorn the deck and gunwales, while a painted line decorates the sides of the hull which with their cream colour give a noble elegance to the model. The 26 Bellagio is not simply elegant but it possesses all the seaworthiness of Giacomo Colombo boats. The new hull offers the excitement of a sport car: nimble, fast, easy to drive, capable of breathtaking turns and very smooth on the waves to provide maximum comfort to its passengers. Project: Menorquin MCY 200 Custom Yacht
Traditional looks with great habitability, harmonious distribution of the interior space, outstanding comfort and versatility are all features which define the MCY 200, new project from Spanish yacht builder Menorquin. The MCY 200 Custom Yacht is developed in collaboration with the prestigious designer Fulvio de Simoni. A 21 metre traditional yacht from the new Menorquin Custom Yachts range. The other vessel in this range which is still in project stages is the Menorquin MCY 240 Custom Yacht. Now the Menorca boat builder further completes its range with the 200. Both the MCY 240 and the MCY 200 are manufactured to order only, this provides the customer the opportunity of participating in the configuration of the interior, choosing the materials and achieves a yacht which is in total harmony with their personal tastes. Very habitable in there dimensions the MCY 200 uses its 21 metres overall length to present a configuration which enhances its habitability. Furthermore the beam of over six metres is fully usable thanks to the semi displacement hull shape which is a characteristic of Menorquin vessels. A notable example are the lateral folding balconies which accentuate the spaciousness of the upper deck. This super yacht has three levels the main deck, the lower and the flybridge; within these it offers three distinct living areas; two on the main deck, which are saloon and cockpit living and a third on the flybridge. It is also possible to install side doors to the saloon and it offers the convenience of two pilot stations one inside and the other on the flybridge, and two solarium's located at the bow and on the flybridge. The interior of the MCY 200 is made to measure, the options for the interior layout are as exclusive as the individual tastes of each customer. For example in a model designed to have 3 cabins, these may all be located in the lower deck together with the galley, whilst in a version with 4 cabins the galley could be transferred to the main deck. Whatever the final layout of the interior there will always be outstanding comfort and a fantastic sense of space both in the master cabin and the VIP cabin, which are as wide as the boat’s beam. The guest cabins are also totally independent and equally comfortable with en suite washrooms. A further satisfying design detail is the crew cabin which in this yacht has been located aft in the lower deck, and accommodates two people in total independence with its there own washroom. In addition to all this attributes of a MCY 200 are those aspects which contribute to its magnificent performance; such as the advantage of a low fuel consumption whilst maintaining a cruising speed of between 15 and 17 knots. Designer Fulvio de Simoni who co-designed both the 200 and 240 models which stand at the top of Menorquin's range has ensured the unmistakable style of the vessels is maintained. He has found a way of combining to perfection the traditional character and elegance that define this company with the most innovative techniques that are applied during the manufacture of these recreational vessels. Project: Rio 54 Air
Rio Yachts presents the project for a new flagship with the 54 Air, which is planned to be launched in the coming fall. The North West Italy builder comes from a period of success presenting three new models in the past year, reinventing its line progressively to latest design trends, and to the need of its buyers. After being absent over the fifteen metre size since the early nineties with the 16.90, Rio returns again to a similar dimension with the 54 Air albeit a different concept to the old flagship. Designed by Rio technical department with Engineer Marcello Sposito, and Architect Marco Alfani the 54 Air will be a hard top sport yacht, having similar familiar looks to its recent new models. For the 54 Air, Rio project team is aiming for the following targets of a 35 knots performance, three cabin plus crew interior, and easy handling in all situations thanks to the Axius joystick. Propulsion and engine choices have so far not been advised. The 54 Air will also offer choices to the buyer for what regards the main deck, with a choice to have the area enclosed with patio door and settee aft, or fully open sun pad style deck. Construction wise the 54 Air will be built with the latest technology having a balsa cored hull, water proof vinilester resins, and stringers made with the use of carbon material. Rio also notes that in 2010 it will also present another model in addition to this new flagship with a 42 in planning stages, and for 2011 in relation to its fiftieth anniversary should launch a further bigger sized sport yacht. Project: Mulder 92 Flybridge
Mulder Shipyard is currently in the process of completing a new all aluminium 92 Flybridge. This new project which is actually in its final stages of construction has been ordered by an Egyptian client, and will be so far as at today the Dutch builders current biggest construction. The 92 Flybridge just comes on the heels of a just delivered 68 Convertible for a Spaniard, these recent orders confirm the Dutch yard’s global attraction and identity to connoisseurs of quality. As the younger and larger sister of the renowned Mulder 88 Flybridge, the new 92 Flybridge will again be blessed with classic Mulder lines. This new flagship of the Mulder fleet will have a modern interior, finished in premium quality mahogany wood with a wealth of light tints. The Mulder 92 Flybridge is designed with a round bilged, semi planing underwater hull section. Two 1015 hp Caterpillar engines should give the new Mulder Super Yacht a top speed of 18 knots and an all time cruise at 16. A slim nose and sweeping hull lines ensure an exceptional sailing performance in all weather conditions.Friday, January 15, 2010

Presented over a year ago, British boat builder Broom present a new improved galley to the 395. This galley has been proposed by an owner and shows flexibility from Broom to accommodate owners requests and model improvement to the standard version as pictured above. Launched in the Summer of 2008 the 395 is the latest model introduced by Broom, famous for its pure British looking aft cabin motor cruisers. Second entry model in its range the 395 is a two cabin two head boat, having unbeatable spaces, and owners suite to aft which can be compared to that of a fifteen metre yacht. The 395 can be powered by a single engine this choice more adaptable for river coastal use, or having a twin for planning speeds and superb performance.Thursday, January 14, 2010
New Model: Ocean Alexander 60 Trawler Series
Ocean Alexander present the 60 Trawler Series, second new model in this new line of explorer yachts presented in the just past year. The 60 Trawler is actually an extended version of the slightly smaller 54 with the same beam, and draft, but having a longer hull which gives a larger flybridge and more spacious aft deck. The flybridge will give extra space for your tender toys, while the aft deck grants more area for Al Fresco entertainment. It's interior layout is also the same as the smaller 54 with the split level saloon welcoming you on the main deck featuring an L-shaped settee, galley, and dinette with dual seated helm station to fore. Below is two generous cabins, with a mid ship located stateroom for the owner, and a VIP guest suite to fore. There is also a rather large utility room. Although not communicated the rather large 5300 litres and single 300hp Deere engine should give a rather long range, of which I imagine enough to do trans Atlantic crossing. An optional of twin 455hp Caterpillar which should give faster 14 knots top speed but less range is also available. The design is of the Ocean Alexander 60 Trawler Line is at the hands of Evan Marshall, Ed Monk, and Desty Darr. Technical Data:
LOA - 18.14 m (59.6ft)

Project: Sealine F42
Sealine have released plans of their new F42 flybridge cruiser, due for launch at the 2010 Southampton show. The new F42 offers unrivalled space for entertaining throughout the craft, whilst building on the practical cruising capabilities of the hugely successful F42/5. The F42 has a significantly larger flybridge due to the extended design similar to that on the F46 launched the past September. There is space for six to dine in comfort around the large dining table, plus the ability to create a large sun bed aft by simply folding down the backrest on the rear seats. There is a central double helm, two further forward facing seats, a large cool box and spacious storage locker. The single level deck has a three part sliding door joining the cockpit to the saloon, providing excellent connectivity. In the saloon, a comfortable L-shaped seating area is on the starboard side with further seating on the port side. The seating area can easily be converted into an occasional double berth. The open plan galley is located forward. The feeling of space and light is created with the large wrap around windscreen which also provides some stunning panoramic views. In the cockpit there is an L-shaped seating area with a large lazerette underneath. The cockpit is large enough for entertaining and has an optional fridge and grill to add to the enjoyment of alfresco dining. As with the F46 there are wide side decks and high pulpit rails for added safety. There are two cabins, offering five berths as standard with the luxurious master cabin located forward. A bonded skylight above the bed provides extra light and a wonderful feeling of space. This cabin offers full length hanging storage as well as plenty of general storage capacity. The forward cabin has separate ensuite shower and toilet compartments. To provide additional space and privacy the F42 offers a second cabin amidships, that can be configured either as a triple, twin or double. The second cabin also offers an ensuite shower and separate toilet with a skylight. As with the master cabin there is full hanging space and plenty of storage. Bonded cabin windows provide extra light as well as waterside views. There will be the option to have additional storage in the mid cabin in lieu of the third berth. The spacious interior is characterised by the hand crafted furniture used throughout which has been finished in washed walnut with solid walnut accents. The colour palette for the soft furnishings is earthy with fruit overtones. There will be even more storage on the new F42 than on the F42/5 with the new boat building on the strengths of its forerunner. All the benefits from the F42/5 have been incorporated and expanded upon with the new design, from storage to seating areas, to large entertaining spaces in the cockpit, saloon and on the flybridge. The new hull is based on the proven design concept developed for the SC47 and F46. Power will be from twin Volvo Penta IPS500 370hp or IPS600 435hp. Being Sealine a Brunswick owned company I am surprised for not seeing a Zeus Cummins option.Wednesday, January 13, 2010
New Model: Fairline 58 Targa GT
Fairline's new 58 Targa Gran Turismo was one of the most expected premieres to happen for the start of this year. Announced as a project the past Summer the new 58 Targa Gran Turismo takes a leap forward in this range from the British boat builder. In this new model Fairline shows design features that will make its own boats and those of its direct competitors look old. You have an expandable electric sunroof to the aft deck, option of a patio door which opens all bringing the interior saloon to the deck, lower deck reserved for the accommodation with galley living area up top, three cabins all with personal head for each, owners suite to fore but still being full beam, and an innovative tender launch retrieval system. As you can guess this new Fairline Targa model is full of surprises which while none of these are really world first, when put all together in a single boat they surely present an innovative package. The 58 Targa GT has also good performance numbers giving 31 knots max with the small Volvo 800hp, up to a top speed of 38 knots from the bigger MAN 1200hp optional. Ironically on some other aspects of the 58 Targa GT, Fairline has remained pretty traditional building a solid fiberglass hull, and unlike some other European builders decided to stay to the use of line shafts propulsion and not jump on the IPS band wagon.

Project: Windy 39 Sport Cruiser
New Model: Solemar 37 Oceanic
Launched during the latest Genoa boat show, is the new 37 Oceanic from Solemar. A renowned Italian rib builder, Solemar has always concentrated on the bigger sizes in the ribs panorama and with the 37 Oceanic present the second large in size in its twenty model line up, which start from a six metre and goes up to the 14 metre 44 Oceanic flagship. The new 37 Oceanic wants to be a leader in this size and type of craft presenting a rather comfortable interior with two separate cabins, shower head, an L-shaped saloon, and galley below. Not bad for a ten metre rib cruiser, which puts it also in competition with a full sold material type boat. The 37 Oceanic can also be offered in a variety of unique versions like a Soft Top version, or a Hard Top as pictured above. Another bonus compared to Rib Cruisers of similar size, which joins the elite features of the new Oceanic along with the comfortable interior.

Project: Horizon 106 Elegance RP
Horizon introduces the project of the 106 Elegance RP. The new 106 design order is to enrich this specific model line, as customers become more aware of Horizon’s new line of Raised Pilothouse models. Designer, J.C. Espinosa, implemented similar style to the 120 RP and gives the 106 Elegance RP a sophisticated, and streamlined look with impressive interior volume and the luxury of numerous accommodation options. Standard layout is offered with three guest cabins in the lower deck, owners suite on the main, and a crew lobby with two cabins, and four beds located mid ship. The 106 RP shares the same luxurious interior finishes and weight reducing, construction techniques of all new Horizon yachts. The most notable design change on the 106 RP is her advanced hull shape resulting in exceptional comfort and enjoyment of high speed cruising. In order to meet the high-speed requirement, Horizon collaborated with Donald L. Blount and Associates, an internationally recognized naval architecture marine engineering firm, which specializes in fast hull designs, structure calculations and stability evaluation. The goal was to create a comfortable, efficient, and innovative double chine hull providing great performance in both low and high speed ranges. Friday, January 8, 2010
Project: Colombo 36 Bellagio
Colombo present the 36 Bellagio project, second model of the new Colombo sports boat range, and third to come since Sarnico Group took ownership in 2007. The 36 Bellagio emphasizes, through a modern style, the values of quality and exclusivity of the brand Colombo. The deck has got a contemporary design that Nuvolari and Lenard have created for this new generation Colombo, while the famous naval architecture firm Victory Design by Brunello Acampora has designed the hull. Colombo's aim now owned by the Sarnico Group is very clear: to build a boat that distinguishes its owner, a product who now has a modern charm today, and a never ending beauty for tomorrow. In a classic and simple layout, the cockpit with its large sundeck and rich furnishings, shows its natural and timeless functionality. Its exclusivity depends on the design, the choice of materials and the infinite care of construction, a pedigree of Colombo boats since its name has been written on the ship side of its models. A novelty but seen on the just launched 26 Bellagio is the stern which turns into a gangway and beach, creating a distinctive feature unknown for its competitors. The bow with its flare and teak design, shows off the spectacular art of the master builders and the heritage of the Colombo shipyard. Below, the accommodation space is entirely devoted to the owner's suite with large bathroom and spacious wardrobe. A cabin crew is also available on request. The 36 Bellagio will be powered by twin Volvo Penta IPS400 D4 300hp.Engine: Cat C18 ACERT 1150hp
For pleasure craft customers, it’s all about the power. That’s why Caterpillar Marine Power Systems is building off the success of its Cat C-series, electronically-controlled, high-speed marine engines with the addition of new high-performance ratings for pleasure craft applications. In the past twelve months, Caterpillar has released three new EPA - US Environmental Protection Agency Tier 2-compliant E-ratings to better meet customer needs for power density, acceleration and performance. The Cat C18 ACERT is an in-line, 6-cylinder, 4-stroke marine engine with 145 mm bore and 183 mm stroke displacing total 18.1 liters. With its new EPA Tier 2-compliant E-rating, this engine provides 1150hp (847kW) at 2,300 rpm. Manufactured at the state-of-the-art Marine Center of Excellence (MCOE) in Greenville, South Carolina, USA, the Cat C18 ACERT engine is built and tested to the highest quality levels because the facility is focused on pleasure craft engines. Improve-it = Sunseeker 52 Predator
A recent test with a standard Predator 52 fitted with the first production supply of Volvo's IPS 900 propulsion system proved a resounding success. The boat was put through its paces and trials resulted in improved handling, performance, noise reduction, fuel saving and comfort. The standard Predator 52 has proved a very successful model for Sunseeker and provides customers with a very versatile boat offering a high level of performance matched by luxury appointed accommodation to make cruising a very comfortable and enjoyable experience. The recent tests with the new IPS installation will provide customers with even greater choice and versatility. The new Volvo Penta 900 system installed provided impressive results across the cruising range: at 2000rpm and 26 knots performance was increased by 10%; at 2200rpm and 31 knots by 30%, and at the maximum 2300rpm by 10% reaching 35knots. The Predator tested weighed approx 25 tonnes, with full fuel and water tanks, a crew of four with medium to rough sea conditions and a 4 foot swell. The boat handled well with a comfortable heeling angle and a turning radius much less than that of a conventional shaft and rudder version. Noise level too was greatly reduced showing lower than normal readings across the entire performance range. One major benefit to owners is the comparable fuel saving on the model tested. This was up to 30% of that of the standard shaft and engine installation.

Project: Maritimo C47 Sports Cabriolet
Maritimo presents the C47 Sports Cabriolet project, its first model to be powered by pod drives technology, set to be launched at the coming Sanctuary Cove Boat Show coming May. Maritimo believes that the slow speed manoeuvrability of pod drives clearly provides less experienced owners looking in this size of the market for a Sport Cruiser with an added sense of security. So far the Australian builder is pretty tight lipped on the accommodation layout, and the performance of its new entry level model. Of the two recreational pod drives available the C47 Sports Cabriolet will use the Volvo IPS system with forward looking dual propellers. The C47 Sports Cabriolet is among one of the new models Maritimo will launch in the forty to fifty foot range over the next year. Saturday, January 2, 2010
Projects: Heesen 49.80m YN 15250, Heesen 55.00m YN 14955
Following a successful 2009 year which saw the delivery of four Super Yachts, Heesen moves into 2010 presenting two important new projects. One will be the presentation of a new semi custom series design, and the second will be at 55 metres Heesen largest build to date. Above is shown the first yacht in the new 5000 class hull number 15250, a semi displacement fifty metre Super Yacht of below 500GT which the past October was moved from Building Hall 6, where the hull was welded, into Building Hall 1, where she will be completed. The interior of the 49.80 metre was conceived by renowned Rémi Tessier. The French designer presented a minimalist style, while remaining totally luxurious interior. This yacht is due to be launched in 2011. The second yacht in this class Hull Number 15850, is already in production and the superstructure will be joined to its hull at the beginning of this month.
The fully customised 55 metre semi-displacement motor yacht, Hull Number 14955 has been moved into Building Hall 7 for completion. This represents the biggest yacht to be built at Heesen to date. Powered by a pair of MTU 20V4000 M93 diesel engines, each developing 5,600hp and driving a five blade propeller, she will reach the remarkable speed of 24 knots. This performance is, in part, due to Heesen's in-house Naval Architecture Department who conceived innovative hull lines with a large flare rising up to the chine that deflects spray and improves the sea keeping ability of the vessel. Drawn by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, the exterior styling of this yacht is characterized by two main features, the huge windows with arched tops and bottoms, positioned amidships, that draw in extraordinary amounts of light while providing the guests with wide vistas, and the unique rounded and cantilevered side deck balconies that extend from the owner's suite. The futuristic interior design sprung from the creative genius of Ken Freivokh which, among other stunning details, sports a triple height atrium with glass lift, steps and walls, and a waterfall that tumbles from the sundeck pool into a second custom built pool located on the bridge deck aft. Another interesting feature on this fully custom 55 metre that is due for launch in 2011 is the 'wet dock' in the stern tender garage that allows the tender and the water toys to be floated in, before the dock is drained. Best of 2009
It's been a difficult year for the World economy and like anything the yachting industry has felt its affects to the full. Nonetheless with all this going on we have still seen a lot of new boats coming in, some of them even innovative on the technical point of view. Obviously this is the result to the success the yacht industry had in the past decade, with the growth and the monetary size of the industry tripling in recent years.
2009 also ends the 2000 to 2009 decade with this best of the year also featuring the best of the Decade, for the first ten years of the second millennium. PowerYacht's best 2000-09 decade boat was the Azimut 68S launched in 2003. It was a 21 meter which changed sport yachts, introduced the large frame less windows on the hull side, and also a new modern style interior décor. Revolutionary and also a commercial success, selling the first fifty units in just six months after its first private show appearance in the early Summer of that year.
Azimut 68S - Best of Decade 2000-09
The best for 2009 is the Azimut 74 Magellano. If possible I would have avoided giving Azimut best of the decade and 2009, but I really could not. The Italian name is at the forefront of innovation since some decades and in 2009 it brings a new explorer yacht way, from the technical side with a completely unedited patented semi-planning hull shape which gives speeds up to 25 knots, and going into the design and layout of this 23 meter explorer yacht. Bravo Azimut for surprising us again!
The others.
Atlantis 36 Verve. Atlantis bring a centre console mix into a medium sized eleven meter sport cruiser. The result is a comfortable day cruiser with accommodation for a couple to go extended cruising. Centre Consoles are expanding big in North America.
Bertram 540. The legendary Bertram pushes sportfishing into yachting with this Zuccon designed 540, with the option to have a lower forward windscreen and a second helm. The big question is if the sport-fishermen want it or not.
BlueGame 60. Blue Game started with the ground breaking sixteen meter one off Luja in 2001, forward to 2005 it debuted its first 47 model. Now it enters an important seventeen meter size, a walk around centre console yacht. A sport yacht which looks the talk and does the walk.
Austin Parker 42 Open. Austin Parker starts its new revolution, with its new 42 model. A lobster inspired traditional cruiser full of modern and Mediterranean design solutions designed by the ever clever Fulvio de Simoni.
Italcraft X90 SC. Since becoming part of InRizzardi Group Italcraft has been pushing its size barrier upward. Designed by part-owner Gianluca Caputi, the X90 SC sees Italcraft offering 45 knots high performance with yacht comfort inside.
Otam 65 Millennium. Otam has in this decade dominated the market of muscle sport yachts sub sixty feet with its Millennium 55/58 model. Now the semi-custom yacht builder presents this 65, which is a thing of beauty, class, and fifty knots plus performance.
Sessa C68. Sessa has been on a roll in recent years evolving its quality upwards not by little. This C68 is this and beyond, and is in its size one of the best looking sport yachts thanks to the magical design of Christian Grande. The new Sessa C38 was also short listed for this list.
Sunseeker 60 Predator. With enclosed sport yachts becoming the standard in recent years, it is good to see one of the World's favourite brands believing in the open hard-top. It is Sunseeker best looking yacht since some time, which was noticed also in Poole, reason why a smaller Predator 54 is coming.
Past present. Itama Fifty. The Italian name synonymous with the open sport yacht restore its soul of mid located direct shaft engines and aft cabin layout with this new Fifty model. A renewal of its heritage as the 1985 presented 45, which in 1995 evolved into the 46, and with minor cosmetics became the 50 in 2002 till 2004.
PowerYacht wishes to all its followers, friends, readers, and visitors a Healthy and Prosperous 2010 year.
