Project: Riva 90

During the 2017 Fort Lauderdale boat show Riva showed a preview for a 90 project.  The 90 foot super yacht is the latest addition to the new-generation Riva flybridge range and complements the successful 100 Corsaro launched at the end of 2016, and the soon to launch 110 Dolce Vita, which is set to be launched in early 2018.  The 90 is the result of the since 1991 Riva designers Officina Italiana Design of Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta, and the Ferretti Group Product Strategy Committee, and the Group’s Engineering Department who own the Riva brand since 2000. The new Riva 90 is a pocket size super yacht combining and reinforcing the unique selling points of its predecessors, with particular emphasis on the exterior styling distinguished by sleek and dynamic profile and the generous use of glass for the hull-mounted windows, from the stern to the wide-body owner's suite on the main deck and on the raised pilothouse.  For the 90 designer Micheli and Berretta bring design intuitions as shown in the bigger 100 Corsaro and 110 Dolce Vita for a a semi wide body raised pilot house design, but importantly bring Riva to compete in the 28-29 meter sector of this class which has become very competitive thanks to a registered length under 24 meters and the option to have an owners stateroom on the forward part of the main deck.  The stern area features the innovative Ferretti Group’s patented concealed stairway system, already installed on the new 56 Rivale. The garage can accommodate a Williams 395 tender and a personal watercraft, which can be launched independently.  A choice of three engine configurations is available for the Riva 90, with the standard being twin MTU 1948hp which should should deliver cruising speeds of 22 knots and a maximum of 26 knots. Alternatively owners can choose twin MTU 2218hp which increase speeds by two knots, or MTU 2435hp which manage to add speeds by four knots and allow for a maximum of thirty knots.  The Riva 90 will be equipped with underway and zero-speed stabilizing fins as standard, and upon request, can also include Seakeeper gyro stabilizers.

New Model: Riva 56 Rivale

In a unique ceremony held in Sarnico on 10 June Riva unveiled its new 56 Rivale model.  Direct heir to the 52 Rivale which had a production run which lasted twelve years from 2004 till 2016, the 56 Rivale was code named as Open in project as unveiled in the end of 2016.  Important to note that the new 56 Rivale features a newly designed hull, meaning that this is not an extended 52.  The new 56 Rivale is similar to its replacement in lines and looks with the addition of a large glazed window and a more pronounced central mast radar arch making the noticeable differences.  But the 56 Rivale also sports a big difference existing in the cabin arrangement, offering a two large cabins layout and owners suite at midships versus the three doubles of the 52.  The cabin area also offers a day head to port side, plus a single berth crew cabin to port side with a separate entrance from the main deck.  The Riva 56 Rivale is powered by twin Man engines; standard of 1000hp or optional 1200hp units with speeds going up to 38 knots with the large option.

Carlo Riva 1922 - 2017

The Riva shipyards, the Ferretti Group and the entire world of yachting are grieving over the loss of an unrivaled creator of boats, a master of style and elegance. An extraordinary man who turned his family name into a legend and a brand into a synonym of yachting itself.  Farewell Mr. Riva, and enjoy the sea in your last voyage towards the horizon. The world of yachting throughout the world bids an emotional farewell to Mr. Carlo Riva, who passed away today in his home town of Sarnico at the age of 95.  Just four letters epitomize the history, the legend, the technology and the appeal of Italian made yachts. The history of a family and of an extraordinary man, the legend of a whole era that saw the launching of Italian design onto the world stage, from the days of “La Dolce Vita” through to the present day.  An ongoing technological evolution which has always been the hallmark of the boats crafted in the Riva boatyards: from the timeless charm of traditional wood to state-of-the-art fiberglass and steel. Masterpieces conceived, designed, built and inspired by the genius and style of a unique man who has become a legend.

Project: Riva 56 Open

Riva continues to push forward, and at the first important World boat show of 2017 presents a new project for a 56 Open model.  Again a design to Officina Italiana of Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta, Riva designers since the early nineties the 56 Open presents itself as a huge day sport yacht with spacious exterior spaces, offering a central sun-pad, L-shaped dinette, L-shaped passenger settee, wet-bar galley area, and helm station.  The interior will offer two large owner and VIP cabins, midships and forward, with a separate crew cabin.  In between the cabins is an L-shaped saloon and galley.  Power for the 56 Open will come from Man 1000hp or optional 1200hp engines with estimated top speed being in the region of 39 knots with the large optional choice. Currently under construction the Riva 56 Open hull one should launch in late Spring, and will feature a shark grey color.

Project: Riva 110

Designed by Officina Italiana, the project of the Riva 110 expands on the just launched 100 Corsaro, for a semi wide body raised pilot house type super yacht.  Semi wide body not so large super yachts of around thirty meters in size are becoming increasingly popular with owners and semi production builders in recent years, due to the expansion of space these give to the owners stateroom on the fore part of the main deck.  Yet the CentoDieci is not only similar to the 100 Corsaro on concept, but also in looks, looking very alike outside.  Why would they not?  Consider also that after the launch of hull one of the 100 Corsaro, in couple of days Riva has sold production of this unit till early 2018, which shows a positive market response to both Officina Italiana and  Ferretti Group design engineering teams.

New Model: Riva 100 Corsaro

Last Wednesday, Riva launched the first 100 Corsaro at its facility in La Spezia.  The 100 Corsaro sees Riva back with a new flybridge two deck and half design superyacht with a semi wide body foward, and an owners stateroom on the main deck. The joint efforts of Officina Italiana Design, which exclusively designs the entire fleet of the brand, and the engineering department of Ferretti Group, result in a combination of sportiness, safety, elegance and fine design that is complimented by the unmatched style of this renowned status symbol shipyard in the world. The 100 Corsaro instantly joins the ranks of other legendary Riva yachts, following the myth of the 60 and 20 Corsaro from eighties and early nineties. With a size of 29 meters Officina Italiana blended perfect sporty looks with a sleek, almost arrow shaped profile, along with dark metallic colors, and broad expanses of crystal glass.  This first 100 Corsaro was in Asia and will reach Hong Kong for its worldwide debut in early 2017. For the first time in the both Rivas and Ferretti Group history, that spans more than a century and a half, a new yacht will make its debut outside of Europe. This marks the start of a new chapter in history.  This first 100 Corsaro features exclusive interior furnishings, selected by the owner himself, to compliment his own personal style, and fit the requirements for his intended use of the yacht.  The festivities surrounding the launch of the first hull celebrated the immediate triumph of the new model. With the entire scheduled production of 2017 already sold out, it is clear the Riva 100 Corsaro has attracted the interest of many future owners and is already an incredible success.

Project: Riva 100 Corsaro

During the eighties the Corsaro word made many heads turn around in a marina, as it was the model flagship name of one very admired boat builder Riva at the time standing at sixty feet in length.  Now in 2015 and headed by the Ferretti Group, Riva return this name from its history books and present the new 100 Corsaro project. For the new Corsaro Officina Italiana design of Micheli and Beretta went for a raised pilot house semi wide body project which impress for space inside but also seems to feature a rather high free board.  Unfortunately for the traditionalists the new Corsaro gives no homage to the old flagship. Impressive in the new 100 Corsaro will be the main deck with fore located owners stateroom which will be of huge spaces. Below deck will also be accommodation for four other guest cabins, and three crew cabins accommodating five berths located forward. Power of the 100 Corsaro will come from twin 2435hp MTU engines with top speeds estimates of 27 knots.

New Model: Riva 88 Domino Super

The Super suffix have been used by Riva since many decades to mark an evolution in its species.  This time around it is for an important model in the Riva range the 88 Domino Super.  Super this time around stands for four important design improvements; fore sundeck, helm station on the sport bridge, updated windows, and a rethought aft area.  The most noticeable feature will be the hull side glazing now extended to a much larger size, while the one which will receive most accolades from customers is the redesigned now not only spacious but also functional fore sun-deck. The 88 Domino Super will have a big challenge to follow, twenty hulls have been sold of the standard version. Premises look there since Riva sold three units in the first month since the 88 Domino Super has been in the water.

New Model: Riva 88 Florida

If history is a remark, the original wooden Riva Florida spurred a glorious moment for the today Italian status symbol boat builder and sold in its time between 1952 to 69 over one thousand units.  This new Riva 88 Florida which continues the over two decades long Mauro Micheli design efforts is a totally different boat, from size to construction materials. But yet again the new 88 Florida spurs imagination forward, something also the small runabout did.  It is in simple terms a genius effort to change a hard top yacht into a fully open one in some seconds, thanks to the Ferretti Group patent called the Convertible Top. This system alone changes what kind of customer the 88 Florida attracts, and in simple terms feels to be a more juvenile yet in its own right already looking a classic super sport yacht.  At this moment a big question comes to mind, and it will be interesting to see if Ferretti Group will keep this patent Riva only, or try to use it on the other brands.

Project: Riva 76 Coupe

Riva announces the 76 Coupé project, already under construction in the Ferretti Group plant in La Spezia. This new Riva creation will make its debut in September at the Ferretti Group Première event in Montecarlo, then at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2015.  This project has been conceived preserving the family feeling with the other models in the brand’s sporty range, and is designed as has been since twenty years plus from the hands of Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta, of Officina Italiana Design the firm that exclusively designs the entire Riva range. The Riva 76 Coupe immediately strikes for its sporty features and elegance, further enhanced by its colour shades. The first hull will boast a new shade of metal silver, the already well-known Moon Grey, which is the dominating colour, found both in the hull and in most of the superstructure. In this model, it is combined with Riva’s classical dark shade, Bright Black, which has been skilfully used to better define the stylish shapes and volumes.

Project: Riva 50 MT

Riva has sold its first 50 Mt model, with steel cutting currently ongoing.  This is the second of the new generation Riva to be built in Ancona at CRN and to be constructed in a material outside fiberglass.  Riva has been in touch with small super yacht sizes of eighty plus feet in the seventies, and then made a return in these sizes in the mid nineties.  Seeing the legendary builder going above fifty with possibility of going up to one hundred meters opens new possibilities for the Riva style never before seen.  The Riva 50 Mt will be a fully custom build and should weigh around 450 tons unloaded.  The technical details does not list the design house, but by the looks of things it should be Mauro Micheli Officina Italian team.  Engines should be twin Cats 1450hp engines with max speeds of 15 knots.

New Model: Riva 122 Mythos

March 17 will remain a special day in the history of Riva, a brand icon of Made in Italy excellence in the world, but also in the history of the Italian yachting industry as a whole, as it launched the new class of yacht, entirely conceived and built in the South European Peninsula with the heir of a centuries-old tradition. March 17 is above all, a first important achievement, after so many months of hard work, from the various teams involved in the development of this crowning jewel, the 122 marks a turning point in the history of the Riva brand and, at the same time, become a symbol of it with its fitting Mythos name. The Riva 122 Mythos, the new flagship of the Ferretti Group owned brand, was officially launched Saturday 15th in the morning at the CRN shipyard in Ancona, with the presence of the Group’s management and engineers, architects and designers that have worked on this project for over a year. The ceremony was also attended by the many workers of the Marche-based shipyard which specializes in the construction of fully customized super yachts in steel and aluminum ranging from 40 to 90 meters in length  that over the last few months contributed to the creation of this jewel. The 122 Mythos really marks a turning point in Riva’s heralded history, a brand known over the world for its legendary wooden runabouts the symbols of the Dolce Vita and the icons of a truly unforgettable time. The new yacht is indeed the largest yacht built in the 172 year history of the Italian brand, and the first entirely built in aluminum, a debut that Riva is sharing with CRN, since this is the first time the Ancona-based shipyard is using light alloy only to build a yacht. The 122 Mythos is also the symbol of the renewed cooperation between these two historical and iconic brands of the Italian boating industry, both belonging to the Ferretti Group. A cooperation that started over forty years ago, in 1970, when Carlo Riva decided to establish a partnership with CRN. Between 1970 and 1978 the two brands jointly built as many as six 23.50 metre long motor yachts in the Marco Polo series and two Vespucci yachts, ninety and one hundred feet long, respectively. The new flagship is the outcome of the cooperation between Yacht Designer Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta, founders of Officina Italiana Design, the design firm that conceived the entire Riva range and Advanced Yacht Technology and Design, in close cooperation with CRN’s Technical and Interior Design Department for the development of the naval project and the interiors. The 122 Mythos is an evolution of the 86 Domino, from which it has inherited the main stylistic features. The owner of the first hull has requested the 3-cabin optional version, while the standard version proposed by the shipyard has four cabins. An additional optional layout with cabins cabins is also available. The aluminum planning hull can reach a maximum speed of 27 knots and a cruising speed of 25  thanks to two MTU 3510hp engines. Following the technical launch, few weeks will be devoted to the completion of on-board outfitting activities, particularly as regards décor solutions and interiors. Technical trials will then be performed. The yacht is expected to be officially delivered to the owner in early May. During the summer months the 122 Mythos is scheduled to cruise across the Mediterranean Sea and it will be officially presented to the public at the 2014 Cannes boat show.

Project: Riva 86 Miami

During the 2014 Miami boat show held in February, Riva unveiled a concept for the 86 Miami. Apparently the inspiration for this new 86 Miami concept came from the man creator of the status symbol brand, Carlo Riva himself. This project should be based on the hull of the 86 Domino but with its deck being a fully Open affair. Still the 86 Miami will feature a hard-top with an innovative automated hydraulic system which makes it hide in the fore deck when not in use. Launch is scheduled for early 2015.

Riva New Web Site

Riva presents its new World wide web virtual showroom.  An iconic brand since the early part of the twentieth century Riva started operating in 1842.  But it was a sudden storm which in reality started the brand when Pietro Riva at the time a young ship builder moved to Sarnico to repair boats after this hit the area.  This eventually gave Pietro the trust of the locals and his relocation from Como to Sarnico, and the start of the Riva brand.  The son of Pietro, Ernesto continued where his father left, and with an innovative spirit also started building cargo and passenger ships with an internal combustion engine.  After World War One, Serafino the son of Ernesto takes the helm of the company and gives Riva the final twist when he moves production away from commercial and started building leisure powerboats.  At the time 1920 and thirties, Riva also competed with its boats collecting a large numbers of victories and records to its name. Just after World War Two in 1950 Carlo Riva, a man driven by great passion since his childhood for the sea and fast performing boats takes the helm of the company.  It was a time of renaissance for Europe and Italy and Carlo created the status symbol wooden sport boat first with the Ariston, followed by the Tritone the first two engines of the series, Sebino which had a full production run, Florida which evoked the famous North American East Coast boating area, to arrive to the still status symbol Aquarama launched in 1962 and produced till 1996 and delivered in 784 hulls. In 1956 Riva also started collaboration with designer Giorgio Barilani who then becomes exclusive and later on design manager from 1970 till 1996 of the company.  In 1969 another important step happened at Riva when it started it first fiberglass produced models with the 20 Bahia Mar and 25 Sport Fisherman both models licensed from the famous Bertram but modified with the Riva element of design and finishing. Other iconic models will follow in the seventies; from the small Rudy of 5.87 meters which is as at today best fiberglass seller with 364 units sold, to the St. Tropez a fast open sport cruiser of nine meters second of the best sold glass builds with 317 units, and the Superamerica which started as a 42 model and evolved over time to a 45, 48, 50, 50 Special, and 50 High Performance. A total of 251 Superamerica's will be built from 1973 to 1993 making it the third best sold fiberglass Riva.  Another unique model was the Riva 2000 designed by Italian sixties and seventies performance hull guru Renato Sonny Levi launched in 1975 and built till 1982 and sold in 54 units.  Riva had also a couple ownership change with US fiberglass producer giant Whiitakar taking helm in 1969, Vickers in 1988, and Ferretti Group in 2000 which still as at today owns the brand.  Another important step happens at Riva in 1991 when Mauro Micheli starts to design the boats with his first being the 58 Bahamas presenting the evolving new route. Micheli has since then designed all the Rivas. Currently Riva builds twelve models which start with the 27 feet Iseo, and the currently in construction alloy build 122 Mythos.  Riva new web site is available in English, Italian, and Chinese language and takes you around with the following buttons; Riva, Models, Pre-Owned, News and Events, Dealer and Service Network, and My Riva.  Riva also features its social media hubs; Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, Tweeter, and Linkedin with a link and the bottom right of the page.

Project: Riva 122 Mythos

Riva, the iconic brand of the Ferretti Group, launches its new flagship, 122 Mythos. Riva 122 Mythos, the largest aluminium planing yacht ever produced by the historic shipyard, perfectly transfers the elegance, flair and clean lines featured by all Riva models to a new line built entirely in light aluminium alloy.  Designed by Mauro Micheli of Officina Italiana Design, the team which is in charge of the design of all the models of the Riva range since the nineties, in close collaboration with Ferretti Group's Advanced Yacht Technology research and naval design centre, and Centro Stile, a skilful team of architects and designers; Riva 122’ Mythos will be produced by the skilled and experienced CRN shipyard in Ancona, the production plant of the Group which is specialized in the construction of mega yachts up to 90 metres.  Riva and CRN, both brands of the Ferretti Group, further strengthen their historic partnership, based on a tradition of constructing Riva maxi yachts at the shipyard. This strong partnership which has joined together two of the major protagonists of the international pleasure boating industry for more than 40 years, started in 1970 when Carlo Riva decided to terminate the agreement signed with the Dutch shipyard with whom he had been working until that period. This shift proved to be successful and led between 1970 and 1978 to the launch of five 23.50 metre motor yachts of the Marco Polo series and two Vespucci of 90 and 100 feet designed by the Carlo Riva Yacht Division. The new flagship of Riva is more than 37 metre long and over seven metre wide. The planing aluminium hull gets a peak speed of 27 knots, with a cruising speed of 25 knots, thanks to two MTU 3460hp engines. The extremely elegant and spacious exteriors allow enjoying the time spent cruising together. The large main deck cockpit features a large and comfortable sun pad and a table which can host up to ten people. The salon and the dinette have large windows with an amazing panoramic view and are connected to the helm station; the wide galley, which can also be accessed from the crew area from the lower deck, is located to the front of the deck, after the helm station. The lower deck, amidships, hosts the owner’s suite and the guest cabins. The crew area one captain cabin and two twin crew cabins are located to the bow. There are three possible layouts, with three, four or five cabins according to the owner’s request. From the cockpit on the main deck it is possible to access the aft bathing platform which separates the two garage hatches, designed to host the tender approximately five metres long to the left and jet bike to the right. The platform has been designed with an electro hydraulic system which allows users to safely plunge into the water or dive from the aft area.  Large glass side windows guarantee a high quantity of light under deck. The sun deck, which can be accessed from an external ladder, was designed to offer the owner and his guests the utmost comfort; featuring a Jacuzzi swimming pool surrounded by wide sun-bathing sofas, with a dinette area and foldable table. There is also a second retractable helm station on the sport bridge.

Improve-it = Riva 115 Athena

Hull number eight of the 115 Athena, semi-custom super yacht and flagship of the Riva fleet, was launched the past mid summer at the Ferretti Group shipyard in La Spezia.  The owner of the Riva 115 Athena hull number eight, opted for a five cabins layout which including an extension of the master cabin at bow choosing Canaletto walnut combined with naturally coloured and dark brown leather inserts. This yacht also has an important innovation. Besides developing a number of personalised technical features, Ferretti Group Advanced Yacht Technology naval research and design centre, took this opportunity to make changes to the functionality of the bow garage and swim platform of the 115 Athena series. This is, in fact, the first Athena with a stern helm position which provides for the raise-lower system. This mechanism makes it possible to lower the tender into the water easily and means guests can enjoy contact with the sea by means of the stern swim platform.  The 115 Athena is powered by twin MTU 2775hp engines which give a top speed of 27 knots and a cruise speed of 23.
