Two Injured in Sportfish Yacht Fire

On Sunday May 17, just after 15:00 hours a sportfish yacht of around seventeen meters in length went ablaze on the Fort Luaderdale Intercoastal Waterway, South of Oakland Park Blvd.  Seven adults, two children, and a dog where rescued from the sportfish yacht, with one adult female and seven year old being treated for minor injuries.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Still in doubt what the sportifsh yacht is, but from the few glimpses I got the boat in the fire looks to be a first generation Viking 55 Convertible produced from 1996 till 2002, and sold in over 150 units.  The success of the 55 Convertible not only made it one of the best ever sold sportfish yachts in its size, but also put Viking as the leader for semi-production sportfish yacht above fifteen meters in size.

New Model: Mazu 82

The first Mazu 82 has been launched and completed her sea trial in time for delivery to her proud owner. Built of a lightweight carbon composite, the Mazu 82 combines a clean profile, expansive decks and large hull windows with the outstanding performance, efficiency and handling.  The celebrated Turkish designer Tanju Özelgin created the interior layout and design of the Mazu 82. Working closely with the shipyard, Özelgin optimized the generous volume and large hull windows, combining subtle textures, muted colors, and both direct and indirect light to create a vibe of understated elegance.  The end result is an interior design that perfectly complements the edgy exterior styling of the Mazu 82, designed in-house by the shipyard’s founder, Halit Yukay.  Tanju Özelgin is a designer renowned for its ability to transmit meaning in design through subtle and abstract uses of form, symbol and material. He is widely recognized for his distinct style that is contemporary and abstract yet deeply aware of the fundamentals of human nature and environment.  A major challenge for all yacht designers and builders is to draw in as much natural light as possible into the interior. In this regard, the Mazu 82 boasts very large deck house windows and strip glazing in the hull. In particular, the sliding sunroof, custom-made by OPAC in Italy, and nine squared meters windshield of ultra-clear laminated and tempered glass, lend the interior an airy, loft-like feel.  Artificial lighting is just as important as natural illumination and has to be both functional and atmospheric. For this reason, a bespoke lighting system was developed for the Mazu 82.  To create a chic yet warm and inviting feeling, walnut and leather has been used for the furniture exclusively built by Mazu, while the walls are decorated with metallic finishes and teak paneling that has been textured and stained grey. The textiles and carpets were specially designed for the boat, as were the doors made of bronzed tempered glass and the stainless steel hardware that has been treated using thin-film deposit (PVD) techniques in the same bronze hue.  The yacht is fitted with a state-of-the-art audio system (JL Audio for the exterior and Dali for the interior), which meant that close attention was paid to noise damping. Leather and Alcantara cladding and upholstery throughout help to mute unwanted sound.  The wet surfaces are of a special synthetic material that has a soft leather-like finish, while the bathroom faucets and accessories are by luxury hardware brand Gessi. The high-end galley equipment was supplied by Gaggenau.

Project: Nobiskrug 56 meter

In the fall of 2019 Nobiskrug and Vripack announced that they have been commissioned a 56 meter super yacht for a Middle East or Asian customer.  This concept for this super yacht resembled a high end residence in Dubai or Hong Kong. This Vripack Nobiskrug 56 meter will feature a five guest suite interior including an owner stateroom on the main deck.  The super yacht will also feature a gymnasium.  If this project is pursued this will be the smallest super yacht every build by Nobiskrug, dwarfing by three meters the 2010 project number 779 M/Y Jamaica Bay, which so far has been the smallest build by the German super yacht builder.

New Model: Vicem 67 Cruiser

Vicem is excited to announce the launch of a new cold-molded build explorer yacht, the 67 Cruiser.  The 67 Cruiser presents herself in a traditional profile with a flying bridge and hardtop, bringing together Vicem’s timeless design with numerous features that today’s boaters want in their next yacht.  An elegant motor yacht, the Vicem 67 Cruiser features a classic layout with five distinct social areas, including a formal dining area to port with seating for four, galley opposite that can be open or closed off, depending on owner preference, and equipped for the discriminating chef with abundant space on Corian counters, and a full slate of appliances. The saloon has facing settees port and starboard, served by a table on a high-low pedestal. The lower helm is open to the social areas of the main deck, and has a side door for easy access to the side decks. Since the additional design, Vicem has added a day head to the main deck to ensure guest comfort under way.  Port and starboard stairs from the aft deck provide simple three-step access to a broad to swimming platform, which lowers hydraulically into the water for bathing. The aft deck is shaded by the large flybridge overhang and features a wide transom settee served by a solid-wood table for al fresco dining for eight.  The flybridge provides shelter to the upper helm station, as well as forward-facing companion seating, an al fresco galley console, and a U-shaped settee. The flybridge can be a gathering spot for owner and guests on pleasant days at sea.  At anchor, a large fore-deck sun pad on the trunk cabin is equipped with a folding awning for wind and sun protection. There’s also a forward-facing settee at the bow. Wide side decks is protected by high bulwarks topped with a stainless steel railing to lend safe access to the fore-deck.  The interior is finished in Vicem’s signature book-matched veneers, with the builder’s craftsmanship on full display. This tradition works with an updated design with a three-part wooden and glass sliding door that opens wide to add an indoor-outdoor feel to the saloon and cockpit.  Below the Vicem 67 Cruiser features a three-stateroom layout, including both forward and amidships masters with king-size beds, as well as an en suite starboard guest stateroom with a double bed. Throughout the build, craftsmanship is apparent in the finishes and attention to detail. Stowage in lighted hanging lockers, beneath berths, and in nightstands can accommodate owner and guests for extended cruises. Heads features wood-framed, tempered-glass shower doors, Corian counters, and premium fixtures. A crew’s quarters for two is located aft and has an eat-in galley, laundry facilities, and a head with separate shower.  Built with a hard-chined planning hull, the Vicem 67 Cruiser is constructed of cold-molded plywood mahogany using West System epoxy, resulting in a strong hull that’s light in weight. The build uses cold-molded plywood decks, superstructure, and housetop, sheathed with one ply of E-glass biaxial fabric with epoxy coating and lamination. The deck and house-top structure use mahogany framing and beams. Mahogany and hardwood are used in the stringers, keelson, and sheer, and the structural engine beds are cold-molded, laminated mahogany. The hull-deck joint is glued and mechanically fastened. Vicem uses epoxy undercoating, fairing compound, and barrier coat in addition to anti-fouling on all hull surfaces below the waterline. In addition, the builder has used acrylic coatings for the topsides and boot stripe. Quarter guards and rub rails have been laminated mahogany with stainless strikers.  The Vicem 67 Cruiser hull number one is powered by twin Volvo 1000hp with conventional shaft drives and custom designed 4-blades Nibral propellers. Speeds with the standard engines is a 16 knots cruise and a 25 knots top speed. Project: Rizzardi InFive

Rizzardi present the project for the new InFive project set to debut in September 2020 at the Cannes boat show.  This means that the InFive is already in advanced stages of development and completion, and that tooling for the most part should be ready.  The Rizzardi InFive might be the replacement of the Incredible 45, 50 and 48 series which has been a hot seller for the shipyard since it debuted in 2004, selling over seventy units in the 45 version. The Rizzardi InFive will continue the hall marks of the Rome boat builder of speed and comfort, reaching speeds of over 45 knots and also featuring over 120 customization options.  The Rizzardi InFive will offer various accommodation solutions with the standard cabin layout of three guest cabins and one crew cabin.  It will be interesting to see if the InFive will be born from the hull of the 45 Incredible, or if it will be a totally new project.

New Launch: Abeking and Rasmussen 68m hull#6506

On third April 2020 Abeking and Rasmussen has handed over hull number 6506 the 68m super yacht “Soaring" to her Owner. In presence of Captain and Crew as well as Project Managers and Owner´s Management Team the official Delivery and Acceptance of the super yacht has smoothly taken place at the yard in Lemwerder. Initially, it was the Owner´s wish to celebrate this very special day together with family and friends and also with everyone involved in the build process of this custom-made modern yet timeless mega yacht. Due to the extraordinary challenges the world is facing at the moment, the formal procedure was now held on a far smaller scale. Whilst flexibility is one of the yard´s key corporate values the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic has called everyone at Abeking and Rasmussen to adapt and adjust their proven paths with much more versatility than ever before. Under these special circumstances, final acceptances as well as various closing meetings of internal and external experts had to be conducted via alternative means to the greatest possible extend.  At the yard´s premises itself the management has successfully implemented preventive measures to reduce human contacts as far as possible in order to protect the entire staff, sub-suppliers and business partners: work schedules were split into a strictly separated two-shift system, extensive hygiene measures have been organized, protective face masks have been handed over to the entire workforce and mobile working possibilities were set up successfully.
