Canados Super Yacht Thriller in Ponza

A Canados 27 meter super yacht with Dutch flag had an incredible Summer 2019 story in the Ponza archipelago full of thrill and drama, which started in early July with engine problems near the island of Palmarola.  After a few days then it was again that this Canados hit the Zirri reef in Ponza damaging the hull and rescued by the DMD salvage squad which patrols the island.  After this the Canados yacht was taken for repairs in a yard in Ponza which when completed, and at the moment of payment the captain showing himself as owner of the Canados, a 42 year old business man from Rome, who works in between the Italian capital city and Livorno.  Unfortunately the payments left to the shipyard resulted to be false, as was a Rolex left as guarantee.  But this was not the end, as this Canados yacht again hit a reef in Ponza with bigger damage on 11 August at 1100 hours, and was again rescued by the DMD squad.  After the save the captain somehow disappeared from Ponza, taking the first fast ferry and then being spotted in the Marina of Pisa.  After all this the Italian police force investigating the matter, found the real owner of the Canados yacht who is a 63 year businessman from Milan who deciding to sell the super yacht allowed a three day sea trial to the Rome buyer, who after this special allowance escaped with the yacht.  The real owner of the Canados has since then according to reports settled the pending payments.
This Canados is an 88 model, custom build to order super yacht built of wood, in late eighties up until the early nineties.  It featured an interior of four double guest cabins and four bathrooms, and is powered by twin GM of 1440hp engines which allowed for cruise speeds of twenty knots and top speeds of just over 25.  Two Canados 88 have been build with the model being an evolution of the 85 delivered in six units.

Explorer Cruiser Hits Reef in Tavolara Sardinia

On the evening on Friday, thirtieth August a fourteen meter explorer cruiser with German flag hit a reef near the Island of Tavolara, Olbia in the North East part of Sardinia.  The exact position of the accident happened in between Don Diego point and Red Islet.  Immediately the Italian Coast Guard of Olbia dispatched one of its vessels to assist in the matter.  Of the seven crew on-board none suffered injuries and where transported on land by another pleasure boat.  The Olbia Coast Guard also made sure of the safety of the Explorer Cruiser and guaranteed that no oil was dropped and no damage to the environment took place.  The fourteen meter motor cruiser was later on removed from the area and taken to a boat yard for repairs.
Tavolara area in Sardinia is one of those zones where it seems every year we hear of a boat hitting a reef.  In this case seeing the anchor chain it seems the fourteen meter explorer cruiser might also have drifted, and reports also said that the boat actually ended in a protected area where it is not allowed to anchor or navigate.  This boat seems to escape me, the construction is wood and the design looks a bit Spanish possibly eighties and or nineties.  Anyways those who know something please leave a comment below.

Magnum Lost to Fire in Porto Ercole

A Magnum is like a unique peace, so when a 45 gets a fire, then lost and sank it is always a bad news.  This Magnum 45 went ablaze on thirteen August when cruising some one nautical mile away from the coast around Punto Avoltore, to the South West of Porto Ercole.  All the persons on-board have been saved, but unfortunately the Magnum 45 did not make it and succumbed to the fire and then ultimately sank in sixty meters of deep sea water.
The Magnum is in this fire is a 45, second model to come from the Filippo Thoedoli era which started in 1976 and brought so much success to the US legendary brand.  Designed as nearly all Magnum's by Jim Wynn and Walt Walters the 45 had an interior of a single cabin and optional two cabins version with bunk second guest cabin, and was powered twin by GM 650 or optional 735hp with line shaft or surface drive propulsion.  Selling in about forty units the Magnum 45 was replaced by the bit larger 50 Bestia in 1994.

New Model: Riviera 4800 Sport Yacht Series II

Riviera presents the new 4800 Sport Yacht Series II, part also of the new Platinum edition for all the three Sport Yacht models. Indeed, so significant were the model refinements that Riviera has designated it a Series II, recognizable outside by the full glazing window on the hull side.  Improving on an already very popular model, however, is no easy task. The original 4800 spent twelve months in design and development to optimize the aesthetics and space utilization. The 4800 emerged from this process as a masterpiece in every sense, as intellectual as it is functional.  First of the new features is an extended swim platform with flowing curves to the outboard ends. It is the gateway to a generous garage that accommodates a 2.7-metre RIB with the help of guide rails and Muir winch.  Next on the features list is a cockpit wet bar including bench-top, refrigerator, ice-maker, sink with folding tap and double electric BBQ, serviced by an extraction fan and fold-down lid.  Twin electric individually operated opening sunroofs fill the cockpit with light and fresh air. Slide back the stainless steel-framed glass door; open out the awning window and the cockpit flows into the saloon as one unified space. Step inside and you’re then welcomed by the walnut’s warmth and drawn in by the views.  A saloon cocktail cabinet with bottle storage drawer and drawers for glass storage is another excellent addition to the vessel’s entertainment attributes. The galley is equipped for anything from a weekend to a week on the water, with the Platinum Edition featuring new solid-surface bench tops.  Further rewards are in store in the accommodation deck as floor space has been increased in the forward mater stateroom, along with a larger starboard hanging locker, three-drawer chest and 32-inch TV.  For a perfect night’s sleep, a king-size walk-around berth with innerspring mattress and storage under berth, including drawers and gas struts for easy access. The bed base is luxuriously finished in leather and fine cabinetry. A superbly appointed private bathroom completes the master suite. While hull windows either side of the bed bring in natural light and accent the outside views.  A warm and inviting second stateroom features twin-single beds to port that slide together to create a double and a further single bed to starboard. Continuous glass hull windows to both port and starboard feature opening port holes. This is a perfect stateroom for family or guests. A second bathroom forward of the guest stateroom also serves as the day head.

Classic Giorgi on Fire in Ancona

It was to be the first outing of the season, for this classic ten meter Giorgi flybridge cruiser titled m/y Maestrale with Italian Pesaro registration and owned for twenty years by the same ownership.  As Maestrale left the harbour of Marina Dorica in Ancona on twelfth August around noon direction South to Portonovo the alarm started to ring.  The owner took everything off, and tried to turn the fire off as m/y Maestrale with help from a breezy wind went full ablaze in a couple minutes, and was turned off around 1400 hours.  The passengers of five suffered nothing apart a shock, also thanks to a nearby boat which assisted and boarded the Maestrale passengers to safety.  The fire has been reported to have started in the engine room, with the owner asking a question that it might have been an engine component.  This fire seems to have also started a call from the fire fighting squad in Ancona who said they need better equipment for these type of accidents, especially to what regards water craft able to fire fight in open sea.
This Giorgi is the X10 S model, a flybridge motor cruiser produced in Italy from 1979 till the mid late eighties. 37 units have been build with hull one the prototype as was usual at the time in Italy being all of wood, and then eventually moving to a fiberglass hull and wood super structure, and then to a complete fiberglass build.  The Giorgi X10 S has a cult following in South Italy, thanks to its deep-V seaworthy hull and strong solid fiberglass construction.  The late versions where powered by Iveco's or Cummins 270hp.  The boat was designed by Italian firm Yankee Delta of Massimo Gregori and Fulvio de Simoni.

Riva lost to fire in Porto Cervo

A 21 meter Riva motor yacht was lost to fire in front of Porto Cervo on the evening of eleventh August, fortunately with no consequences to the eight passengers on-board.  The Riva Dolce Vita and the eight persons aboard; husband and wife, five kids and the yacht captain where having a day of relax in a bay located in close proximity to the famous Porto Cervo yacht marina.  The fire was noted when re-entry to harbor was being prepared and the main engines did not start.  A check in the engine room resulted in a fire already ablaze.  The eight passengers where saved by a nearby super yacht of thirty meters.  The fire could still be seen in the late evening around all the Orange Gulf area, that is until 2100 hours when the motor yacht then sank in fifty meters of deep sea water.
This Riva is a 21 Dolce Vita model, produced from 1997 till 2004, and comes from a design of Mauro Micheli of Officina Italiana design.  Over twenty units have been build of this motor yacht which usually stands out from other similar sized motor yachts, not only for it's Riva pedigree but for its sporty low profile flybridge.

Super Yacht Crashes into Wharf

On the Saturday evening of ten August, super yacht Moatize smashed into Cairns Marina, in Queensland, Australia while attempting to moor.  The super yacht crashed into the trawler converted floating restaurant Prawn Star Cairns, which at the time was at the full sixty person capacity.  No one of the persons got injured, but some small boats to port side of Moatize did suffer an early demise. The captain of Moatize later reported that in doing a tight turn in entering the marina the starboard engine gear engagement got stuck in a forward position.  The floating restaurant Prawn Star Cairns had to close its doors due to the damage to its berthing pontoon, but the restaurant manager said re-opening should happen in a very short time.
Moatize is 45.6 meter super yacht build by British Pendennis in 1999 in aluminium, to an exterior design of Dubois and interiors by Redman Whiteley.  Pendennis 45.6 meter can accommodate up to twelve guests and is powered by twin 960hp Cats engines, which give her a top speed of fifteen knots and a cruise of thirteen, with a maximum cruising range up to six thousand nautical miles.
