New Model: Pershing 8X

The Pershing X revolution continues, and after the 5X and 9X comes the 8X.  For the 8X Fulvio de Simoni continues the distinctive side wing design feature of all the X denominated models, a feature which started with the 70 in 2014.  The Pershing 8X is also an evolution of the 80 and 82 models.  The Pershing 82 launched in Summer 2012 has been a huge success for Pershing and possibly its best sold model above eighty feet in length, since the builder entered the segment with the 88 in the early 2000s.  The 8X is an evolutionary design approach and some stylistic elements as the ladder to the sport bridge integrated in the port side wing create artistic peaces alone.  The Pershing 8X is also flexible and will feature three or four double cabin interiors, and there is also an option for the main deck with the tradition central dining area replaced by a bar unit.  The galley in all the layouts is located in the crew area located at midships in between the engine room and midships master stateroom.  As extravagances go the Pershing 8X will also feature what is called Music-Hull, which makes it possible to listen music while under water.  As all new Pershing the 8X performs superlatively with the standard MTU 2435hp pushing her up to 45 knots max of top speed, and the optional MTU 2638hp giving a plus three knots to that.

Web: Bugari New Web Site

Bugari from Fano on the Adriatic sea side of Italy presents its new website.  Founded in 1968 by Artemio Bugari, who at first started production of sailing yachts and fishing vessels from ten to twenty meters.  Over the years Bugari expanded his shipyard twice, first in 1972 and second in 1991.  This last move was very much important and in the early nineties Bugari started the production of custom motor and super yachts, most of which featured a semi-displacement hull form, and size varying from twenty to forty meters.  In 1999 Andrea and Arnaldo Bugari sons of Artemio took over the shipyard.  In 2014 an Austrian holding in partnership with Andrea and Arnaldo started a plan to relaunch Bugari. After this move in 2018 Bugari presented three models; F77, F86 and F100 of size from 23 to thirty meters. Bulgari new website takes you around with the following buttons; Yachts, Home, Brand, Fusion Design, Individual, and Contact.  Bulgari is also on social media with a link on the right top of the page taking you to its Facebook page.

Project: Sunseeker 8X

Sunseeker is proud to release details of its exciting new project the 8X. Launching in autumn 2020 project 8X showcases a fresh design direction for Sunseeker’s next generation of larger models and underlines the brand’s commitment to bringing even more exciting new products to market. Exemplifying the latest in Sunseeker’s cutting-edge design and innovative build processes, project 8X will be fundamentally different from the current range. Exemplifying the feel of a true superyacht, 8X’s stand-out features will be its striking lines, incredible volume, a sophisticated open-plan interior and a new ‘Beach Club’ concept, offering four times the area of a traditional bathing platform design.  Heralding an entirely new design, the beach club’s inset transom and bathing platform has been developed into a highly specified entertainment area of its own. With extensive stowage for a plethora of toys including a four meter plus rib tender and Jet-ski, it features an integrated remote-controlled tender crane within the aft coming, SeaBob deck lockers, optional 3.2m x 2.5m hydraulic bathing platform, a ‘self-levelling’ step passarelle, built-in drawer BBQ, dedicated refrigeration and overhead rain shower; perfect for those blissful days on the water.  A key feature to be found throughout the yacht is the ample exterior space; designed with entertainment in mind, she offers plentiful seating, dining and sunbathing options across multiple spaces, all with new recessed ambient lighting central to their appeal.  Stepping up to the cockpit with glazed balustrade and powered mesh privacy blinds, the cockpit seating will be configurable to the owner’s wishes whilst a secondary wet bar complete with sink, fridge, ice-maker and preparation surfaces creates a self-sufficient aft entertaining space. The optional side access ladder with dedicated stowage provides easy access to port or starboard when moored alongside.  The spacious fore-deck offers the perfect place to relax and unwind, boasting ‘vantage-point’ seating to its aft and both side decks. Central is the large sunbathing area that comes complete with optional powered backrests and sail canopies across all seating areas. Remarkably, the fore-deck can also incorporate a 140 inch cinema screen, laser projector and surround sound, previously unheard of in this size range and great for evening entertainment under the stars.  The flybridge will provide for yet another dedicated entertainment space with an expansive wet bar with stools, BBQ, helm drawer fridges, companion helm seating and optional hot tub. The carbon fibre hardtop with full-width retractable canopy provides the shade for an exceptionally generous seating and dining area that can be configured or left open-plan depending on the owner’s exact requirements.  The Sunseeker 8X will feature a unique main deck, penthouse style saloon and luxurious staterooms offer a new found design direction and materials selection providing elegant interiors to enchant any owner. The interior finish combines traditional elegance with contemporary updates. The layering of textural elements and the mix of furnishings and fabrics feels timeless with a modern twist that oozes sleek simplicity and sophistication.  The considerable saloon measures a remarkable 8.8m in length by 5.6m width providing space for sumptuous modular lounge seating and chaise lounge to port; all made possible by the clever concealment of multiple service items such as the chiller units. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the living accommodation with natural daylight complimented by sliding doors to port if required. A dedicated dining area for eight can be positioned to port or starboard whilst a contemporary apartment-style galley forward, with partition screens if required, offers plentiful space and direct side deck access for crew.  The lower helm, with additional dedicated side deck access, can be specified with a 3.7m skylight to flood the area with light, accentuating the carbon fiber detail to the console and raised companion seating to port. Provision is also made for a day-head to port, rare on a yacht of this size.  The elegant furnishings and flawless design are replicated below deck. A spectacular wooden feature wall leads owners into the luxurious full beam master stateroom offering panoramic views via its 2.5m feature windows. Creating the feel of a penthouse, the furniture has been carefully designed keeping in mind the yacht’s elegant lines, with sweeping curved bulkheads, textured paneling, curved sofa, vanity desk and a super king slatted bed that offers additional stowage below. A full-width decorative bulkhead mirror houses the television, complementing yet again this yacht’s array of advanced technology. A key feature to the stateroom are ‘his and hers’ pivot-hinge wardrobes and drawer units adjoining feature lobby shelving sitting behind paneled full-height mirrors. The generous en-suite incorporates a floating vanity unit with twin porcelain sinks, back-lit framed mirrors, more drawer stowage and a freestanding Axor shower.  A further forward VIP cabin with dedicated access and two twin aft cabins which can be converted into doubles, provides a yacht that can comfortably sleep eight guests in the same modern, cosseting comfort afforded to the master.  For the charter market, an optional fifth cabin is even possible in lieu of the standard master stateroom whilst for certain markets, a lower galley with direct crew cabin access is also feasible. The crew cabin, with capacity for four or five, benefits from a kitchenette, crew mess, en suite and provision of 2 appliances.  Sunseeker project 8X is set to surprise and delight at every turn. Every single element has been carefully considered in meticulous detail, exuding a sophistication and detail hitherto only found in custom super-yachts.  Sunseeker is very tight lipped on the size and propulsion details for the new 8X what looks a fresh new design direction for the famous British name.  Will it have the substance? But to speculate we imagine the 8X to compete in around the 80 to 89 feet size, and possibly also feature a semi-planing hull, and extra range at medium cruise speeds.  The Sunseeker 8X does look a very direct competitor to the Sanlorenzo SX, which considering  the sales of the later why not.

The X and the S

In recent years just as a famous auto maker boat builders have started using letters to symbolize the style of there models.  Before this it was mostly about two systems to differentiate boat models, and that was to say what type of boat it was, Flybridge or Sport, or to name for a famous locality usually from the Caribbean or Mediterranean; as Camargue, Martinica, Portofino, San Remo, and or St.Tropez.  Another popular model name, just as in sport cars is that for predator animals, like the Arno Leopard, Overmarine Mangusta, or the once Sunseeker flagship the 60 Renegade.
In my mind the first builder to use letters was Italcraft who in mid eighties split its range into two distinctive model series the C for Classic which meant traditional line shaft propulsion, and M for its fast surface drives aggressive deep Vee hull line.
Princess entered the letter trend when it renewed its Mediterranean sport cruiser and yacht range to more modern style in 1995, and after the Riviera created the new V series line first with the 39 and 52 models.  This was a game changer for Princess and since its introduction the V series has become an important popular range, competing not little with the Fairline Targa, and the Sunseeker open series.  Today Princess has renamed all its line with letters.
Come 2003 and Azimut enters the letter trend, who wanted to differentiate its new innovative sport coupe models from its flybridge, and here enters the S.  In 2017 Azimut went a step further and removed the length of the yacht in question and started using a single digit meaning an approximate length, in which case for example the S7 is a model to compete in the around 70 feet segment.
Aussie boat builder Maritimo also entered the letter name designation in 2016, first with M for its motor yacht series, then an S, and recently the X for the new innovative aft cabin sport yacht.
In 2016 Pershing also started using letters, with the new 5X.  Pershing had so far in all its story used only the length in its models and in two exceptions added Limited to models renewed in some features.
Come 2019 and Sunseeker also enter the letter naming list by present the new 8X project at the Dusseldorf boat show.
So here comes the age of letters.  It is mostly about the X, S, and the M and the rest.
