Project: Ferretti 720

The Filippo Salvetti Ferretti Yachts era started with huge success in mid Summer 2018 celebrating the fiftieth birthday of the World known Italian motor yacht builder and the launch of his first 670 model.  Here we present the second totally new project to come from the new head designer at Forli, the 720.  While many might think this as an extended 700 model, details show it is not, since a lot of things change from the wider 17 centimeters beam, to the layout of the main and lower deck.  The second Fillippo Salvetti Ferretti 720 features aggressive sporty yet clean lines, with a spacious long and low fore-deck, making way for a broken shear-line which integrates with the super structure window profile design, and a forward radar arch up top which makes the optional hard-top look pleasant on the eye.  Inside Salvetti went for a four cabin three head layout, with impressive space given to the owners full beam stateroom.  The interior part of the main deck offers a traditional layout of a welcoming relaxing saloon, dining table for eight, and a galley further forward, with helm station to port side.  Outside is where the Ferretti 720 will shine versus other similar sized 22 meters flybridge motor yachts, with its long fore deck and aft cockpit looking to be the most spacious in its size.  The Ferretti 720 will be powered by twin Man 1200hp engines, with no estimated top speed numbers so far advised.

New Model: Johnson 112

Johnson Yachts is excited to share news of the recent launch of the 112. The latest launch from this Taiwan yard has key design features that were specified by her owners to make this a truly one-of-a-kind, six-stateroom super yacht. The Johnson 112 has a fiberglass hull and superstructure, built from a design using the yard’s in-house naval architecture and engineering. Bill Dixon at Dixon Yacht Design drew the yacht’s distinctive exterior lines, which feature the double bank of vertical windows forward that have become a Johnson hallmark.  Accommodations on the Johnson 112 start with the main-deck master, which makes the most of the lower bank of vertical windows. These windows provide excellent views in a wide panorama encompassing the bow of the superyacht. Below decks are five additional staterooms. Four of these staterooms feature twin berths that combine easily to form double berths. Two of the staterooms also have Pullman berths, bringing the count of the owner’s party to fourteen. Comfortable crew’s quarters accommodate six. As an early adopter of large-volume hull forms, Johnson Yachts understands the importance of space for comfort on board and the Johnson 112 is no exception, with a seven meters plus of beam that allows for exceptional space below decks, where hull side windows offer natural light and opening ports ensure ventilation. The shared spaces on board also accommodate large groups, with three distinct dining areas that can seat twelve together at one table: the main saloon dining area, the aft deck, and the flying bridge. The flying bridge is expansive and sturdily built, with a boat deck equipped with a davit and space for a RIB tender and two personal watercraft. A huge bow sun-pad and seating area further optimizes the outdoor space on board.  The design also incorporates a fishing cockpit, which allows guests to enjoy the water in comfort and safety. From the cockpit there is access to a complete dive room with a compressor and stowage for dive tanks and the necessary equipment for underwater adventures.  The Johnson 112 is powered by a pair of 1925hp Cats C32 ACERT diesels, giving her a top speed up to 23 knots.

Project: Hatteras GT65 Carolina

Hatteras Yachts just released details about an all-new Hatteras GT65 Carolina project. This project is the newest addition to its proven GT Series tournament-ready sportfishing boats, which includes the GT70, GT63, GT59, GT54 and GT45X. The GT65 Carolina will replace the GT63 and signals a new design direction, enhanced performance and custom features for clients seeking an alternative to either a custom builder or other competitors for off-the-shelf production sport fishing yachts. The new GT65 Carolina is scheduled to debut in Fall 2019. The first renderings of the GT65 Carolina reveal a sleek profile that refreshes the look of the GT Series while still maintaining the core Hatteras DNA. Its new flybridge arrangement features an ergonomically designed console that puts all the controls within easy reach. It also incorporates the latest and largest navigation and fish-finding electronics in a non-glare, flush-mounted, “glass cockpit” helm array. The GT65 Carolina’s added volume is evident in its class-leading eighteen square meters cockpit, which is designed for ultimate fish-ability. The mezzanine incorporates optional integrated seat back air conditioning for all-day comfort, and large stainless steel built-in storage boxes. Below deck GT65 Carolina will have a four-stateroom, three-head interior layout maximizing the boat’s additional volume in both living and storage space. The ensuite master stateroom is the largest in its class, but guests billeted in the forward VIP will not feel slighted in the least. Two big bunk rooms allow owners to bring along a big team of anglers and crew.  But the GT65 Carolina’s key advantage over the competition lies in its new hull and tunnel design. Utilizing high-tech Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis, Hatteras team of engineers optimized hull form to ensure superior performance, handling and seaworthiness. In addition, the hull and stringer system will be infused as a single part, an industry first, to reduce weight and increase strength. The GT65 Carolina incorporates an all-new layout of the engine room for ease of maintenance and serviceability. For owners seeking additional comfort, there is also an optional twin Seakeeper 9 installation, without compromising fuel capacity. Hatteras Yachts is building the first GT65 Carolina, due in Fall 2019, for tournament-winning sportfishing couple Chris and Laura Jessen, owners of Fish Tank Sportfishing. The Jessens have had tremendous success campaigning their Hatteras GT63 Fish Tank since 2012. Chris and Laura, along with Fish Tank’s award-winning captain, Ben Horning, are collaborating with Hatteras on the new Fish Tank, and the builder has given them the opportunity to customize it to meet their competitive needs. The result is the GT65 Carolina, a tournament-ready sportfishing boat that embodies the best boat building traditions of the brand and state that spawned it, along with features forged by the Jessens’ years of tournament-angling experience. Additional features available on the GT65 Carolina include: sealed cockpit and additional fuel in lieu of fish boxes, hull side vents with Delta -T system, premium finish throughout engine room, single-level controls with bow thrusters incorporated, tackle room in lieu of fourth stateroom. The first GT65 Carolina, Fish Tank owned by Chris and Laura Jessen, also will incorporate custom features such as: tower with carbon fiber hardtop and buggy top, tuna tubes, and a custom wood interior. Standard engines for the Hatteras GT65 Carolina will be twin Cats 1600hp, and or optional 1800hp units.

Project: Lynx 19m Commuter

Lynx Yachts from the Netherlands announce a collaboration with Zurn Yacht Design from the USA for a new 19m Commuter project.  Doug Zurn has defined a new style of big, fun, and fast traditional yacht that has links to the past but runs like tomorrow.  This fast, distinctive boat developed for the Dutch shipyard, Lynx Yachts has distinctive traditional looks and will be custom build, built of aluminum, and is designed as a versatile tender to a much larger yacht. Both Lynx and Zurn though advise that your version may perfectly serve a function once familiar, as a quick and traffic-free means to commute to work or pleasure. Many aspects of the design are quintessential Zurn, from the hard-chine medium Vee hull shape with seventeen degrees dead-rise aft, to the purposeful look of the superstructure which appears almost military. Of course the boldest element, although practical is the aggressive reverse sheer. Besides insuring second, and even third looks, this distribution of volume insures a commodious bow inside, with features to enhance seaworthiness and dryness too. The lowered aft cockpit eases entry, and subtly encourages more sybaritic pleasures like sunbathing, swimming, or just relaxing with a drink from the bar.  The first Lynx 19m Commuter is laid out to accommodate two crew forward. This cabin with twin V-shaped berths is isolated from the main entertainment salon by the unusually commodious galley.  The living room styled main cabin has a spacious en-suite head with private shower compartment. The furniture quickly and easily converts to a double bed, and so for practical purposes it’s entirely possible for two couples to cruise, their cabins very private from each other. On the other hand, Doug Zurn anticipated this yacht will host many a party, and so he calculated things like widened passages, airy drop-windows, clear Lexan stern doors, and many other little wizardry from the architectural world, so as to host up to eighteen guests.  At present it is anticipated that Lynx Yachts has planned to build the Lynx 19m Commuter in aluminum metal. The design has a look that complements its construction, and the extremely interesting shape doesn’t require varnished wood adornment, in fact too much of that would be gilding an already stylish traditional yacht. Coated head to toe in Awlgrip, which was designed from day one specifically to adorn aluminum, the Lynx 19m Commuter boat will be just as durable as it is dutiful.  The Lynx 19m Commuter is powered by twin Caterpillar 1900hp diesels residing beneath the sun lounges well aft, and silenced with vibration insulated boxes.  The 19m Commuter is expected to reach speeds up to 45 knots cruise at 38 and deliver a range up to five hundred nautical miles from a 6015 liters fuel capacity.

Cannes of Italy

For five days in September it looks like Cannes for its Festival boat show becomes an Italian province.  Today in 2018, but since five to six years the Italian boat builders have made Cannes there own international boat show, replacing it for the most part even with there own Genoa, helping no little to put the French boat show at the top spot of boat showing.  Novelties and future projects are presented in Cannes in more then any other boat show today.
A decade ago Cannes was considered by Italians and other European boat builders and buyers the warm up to Genoa, today this script has changed.  Cannes is the boat show everyone waits for, and apart the boats and World presentations it has become a sort of meeting and party place for various industry entities.  The Cannes by night has become for example a huge success, with the simple idea that yachts do look cool in the night.  It has added a new dimension to boat showing previously unknown to outdoor boat shows.
It will be interesting what the other boat shows do invent, Cannes is no record breaker, for example Genoa still has by triple more visitors in its six days run.  But the quality of crowd in the French boat show is unique as is the end of Summer atmosphere.  Cannes has become the last Summer meet up for boaters, and with it we see the novelties to watch in a marina near you the following year.
