Project: Palm Beach GT50 Express

While developing its next model, Palm Beach identified a void in the refined high-performance marketplace and the new GT50 project was started. The design philosophy was to create a visually elegant traditional yacht which is still inspired to Down East lobster lines and capable of 40-plus knots, with an economic cruise speed in the mid thirty knots range, and a yacht that was simple to operate and easy to own. The first Palm Beach GT50 Express is scheduled to make its debut in September at the Newport International Boat Show. Initial sea trials hit the company’s precise target top-speed projection of 42 knots and a cruising speed of 35 knots with a pair 600hp and Volvo IPS 800 forward looking pod drives. Moreover, at 35 knots cruise the fuel consumption will be about 150 liters per hour, with 25 knots projections for only 90 liters per hour. These impressive figures make the Palm Beach GT50 a very efficient yacht. The GT Series incorporates Palm Beach’s unique hull design that results in less resistance to achieve plane while keeping the bow in the water. A hyper-focus on lightweight, strong construction helps to ensure the GT50’s efficiency. The hull is a fully infused vinylester cored e-glass construction that is complemented by a fully infused, 100% carbon fiber deck and superstructure. The deck and bulkheads are structurally bonded to the hull for increased strength and rigidity, forming a semi-monococque shell that produces a far stronger result. Palm Beach gave significant attention to the GT50’s outdoor spaces in order to comfortably accommodate large groups of guests while underway. Two L-shaped settees in the cockpit flank a transom door to the large teak swim platform. The helm deck is ideally suited for al-fresco dining or lounging while underway, with an L-shaped settee and a straight settee. The Palm Beach GT50 Express will feature a large opening sunroof and the customary side and aft opening windows provide an open-air atmosphere for an incredible on-the-water experience. An additional refrigerator and an ice-maker in the cockpit complement the full-service galley below. Twin helm seats serve the carbon fiber helm station, and the single-piece windscreen creates an unobstructed line of sight that is more like a high-performance car than a yacht. Side decks are designed to seamlessly join the cockpit to allow for easy access forward.  Below, the attention to detail continues with contemporary finishes blended into a timeless elegance. Timber options include wenge, teak or ash. Broad selections of designer double-stitched fabrics are wrapped around a spacious forward master stateroom, huge head with shower, large galley and a queen-sized berth aft. Engine access is below the cockpit.  After the Newport debut, the GT50 will attend the Norwalk, Annapolis and Fort. Lauderdale boat shows. The GT50 will not be a solo model but a full range for Palm Beach with the down under boat builder working on a GT60 with performance projections up to fifty knots and set to debut in September of 2019, and also a GT70.

New Model: Azimut S6

During Azimut most expected event of the year the Yachting Gala, which for 2018 was held in the suggestive location of Monopoli in the South Italy region of Puglia, the famous yacht builder presented its new latest model the S6.  The Azimut S6 is based on the 55S, see identical beam but a longer hull by seventy centimeters, which allows for bigger triple Volvo 550hp engines versus the 435hp units of the 55, and a more spacious aft deck.  The Azimut 55S introduced in 2012 was the fore bearer of the second generation S series and one of the best sellers of the Italian boat builder in the last five years, with an impressive demand also in brokerage.  The S6 is recognizable thanks to a different window design featuring latest elements as introduced by Stefano Righini and the Italian boat builder newer models.  So far complete specifications and layout are not to be found so we cannot say if there is more difference then the details mentioned.  At this stage it seems that the Azimut S6 and the 55S will co-exist, which is understandable considering the success the later has enjoyed.

New Model: Ferretti Custom Line 42 Navetta

The Ferretti Group and Custom Line Superyacht Yard in Ancona celebrates the launch of  the brand new 42 Navetta.  A super yacht just over 300 Gross Tonnage in size, the Ferretti Custom Line 42 Navetta is the result of a design process that has kept the Product Strategy Committee led by Piero Ferrari, the Group Engineering Department and Studio Zuccon International Project busy for more than two years.  The 42 Navetta projects a vision of the sea expressed by design in motion, sophisticated elegance and extraordinary performance.  Both the interiors and exteriors of the new Navetta 42 can be extensively customized, so that each owner can create their own dream boat. The layout optimizes the way the generous spaces are used, adopting an innovative and attentive approach to the organisation of the interiors and particularly the outdoor settings, which exploit the four decks to the full to offer the utmost privacy and comfort at sea. A huge suite on the main deck is reserved for the owner, while the layout on the lower deck features four VIP suites. The captain has a spacious living area forward on the upper deck, with a private cabin and direct access to the main helm station.  All the interiors of the first Navetta 42 unit have been customized according to both the owner’s desires and the perfectly tailor-made style embodied by Custom Line, which is expressed at its very highest bespoke level in the Navetta line.  Navetta 42 confirms once again that the launch of a Custom Line unit is a magical moment, one that in this particular case follows closely on the heels of the fifth Navetta 37 unit and the fourth Navetta 33. Three more Navetta 42 units are already under construction.  The backdrop for all these recent success stories is the Superyacht Yard in Ancona, the Ferretti Group shipyard that is now rightfully held up as a centre of European excellence.  Ferretti Customline 42 Navetta will be given its official debut in September at the Cannes Yachting Festival.

Project: Ocea Nemo 50 Ice

Conceived with discerning owners in mind, the Nemo 50 Ice super yacht is a new, ambitious project that the French Shipyard is developing in conjunction with its partners Aldo Manna, the head of the Ocea Mediterranean Office that it opened just a few months ago in Italy, and designer Fulvio de Simoni. As a matter of fact, the Nemo 50 ICE is intended for people who have a dream and are unwilling to compromise on what they want, as sailing around the North or South poles, with a 50 meter super yacht with a gross tonnage of 499 GT. The Nemo 50 Ice is to be built in compliance with the requirements of the Ice Class rules and will feature an extreme, technical design as designer Fulvio de Simoni wanted to emphasize the very DNA of the French brand. The concept, design and construction criteria of this vessel exquisitely mirror the spirit of the Ocea Shipyard, whose core business is the design and construction of military ships. The Ocea Nemo 50 Ice has been conceived to brave the seas at high altitudes while searching for unique landscapes or lifetime adventures. An ideal yacht to explore places of pure magic, such as the Drake Channel, or the Cuverville Island with its dark rocky mountains, or the astonishing Danco Island, just to name a few. Every detail has been carefully designed to ensure that guests will enjoy a comfortable stay for very long periods of time and to optimize navigation also under extreme conditions. By way of example, tenders, rigid-hulled inflatable boats or landing crafts can be launched and recovered by using dedicated handling equipment: as a matter of fact, the Nemo 50 Ice davits are exactly the same as those installed on the brand’s military ships to handle landing crafts in full safety.  This concept features an important design solution, a technical area located forward on the “raised deck”, also intended to accommodate the hiking equipment: the planking level in this area, which communicates directly with the main saloon, is less than one meter above waterline to ensure that guests can access the tenders quickly and safely. Also, a preferred open-air area for guests who can enjoy it while being sheltered from bad weather.  The engine room is a spacious, well ventilated area with every component, apparatus and equipment can be easily accessed for emergency repair by the technical staff. A six sq.mt fully-equipped workshop and a control room fitted with all the remote-control systems needed to operate the vessel’s key systems also in “manual mode”, are available. Both the workshop and the control room are directly connected to the crew accommodations through a central passageway in the lower deck, in order not only to maximize the crew’s efficiency and convenience but also to enhance the guests’ comfort and privacy.  The shafts of the Nemo 50 Ice are integrated into dedicated structural skegs, which will protect them, along with the propellers and the two rudders, should the hull hit an iceberg or partially submerged objects, this type of construction being a typical feature of all the yachts Ocea has built so far.  The guests’ accommodation area has been designed in order to maximize guests comfort during long stays on board: the owner’s apartment is a full-width design covering the fore portion of the main deck houses a private lounge which can be used either as a relaxation corner or as a study area, should one need working aboard. There is a sizable bathroom where even a large sauna can be incorporated, if needed.  The living spaces are also very spacious and thought to maximize comfort during long stays, as evidenced by the large open-space on main deck amidships.  When travelling to far-off or unexplored lands, the crew plays a crucial role. That’s why they have large, efficient and comfortable spaces. As any crew sailing across the oceans is made up of expert people highly qualified technical personnel or explorers, their accommodations need to be designed and arranged with their duties in mind.

New Model: Absolute 48 Navetta

During the 2018 dealer meeting Absolute unveiled the 48 Navetta, new entry level and fourth model to the modern explorer yacht range as visioned by the Italian boat builder which has brought so much success to the firm since introduced in 2014 with the 58.  The Absolute 48 Navetta for a modern explorer cruiser just under the fifteen meter mark offers interesting spaces both outside, see spacious flybridge, and inside.  The interior impresses a lot especially the three cabin guest area of the lower deck with the side looking double berth design of the forward stateroom impressing for its space, which really seems to give nothing less to that of a midships design.  This idea is not new, I remember Fairline and Uniesse using a similar concept in a slightly bigger boat, and I always do think that in between the thirteen and fifteen meter sizes this should be used a bit more instead of going for the simple eqauation of a high freeboard in order to fit a midships cabin.  But the Absolute 48 Navetta lower deck extra space does not stop and thanks to an important beam its port side midships located VIP cabin is also another spacious offer.  Completing the lower deck in the Absolute 48 Navetta is also an aft crew cabin.   The 48 Navetta main deck offers the embraced by Absolute aft galley design and an area which connects with the aft deck.  As all Absolute since quite a few years the 48 Navetta is IPS propulsion-ed and is powered by twin Volvo 435hp engines.  Worth to note is the important fuel tank capacity of 1800 liters which at optimum cruise should give an interesting range.
