New Model: Viking 44 Open

Viking shows the upcoming 44 Open an important new model in its range of entry level sportfisher cruisers which goes from the recently launched 37 Billfish to the successful 42 series presented in 2010. It is not as yet understood if the 44 series will replace the 42 in the Viking line up.  Technically speaking the 44 and 42 can live together, as they have an important difference of propulsion and engines.  A complete new product the Viking 44 Open offers an accommodation layout of two double cabins; forward owners cabin, double french berth to port side in a midships cabin, all this split in between by the living area offering an L-shaped dinette, and a C-shaped galley to starboard.  Outside Viking continues its trademark sportfish design for a free aft cockpit with an aft looking mezzanine settee, three steps up take you into a living cockpit deck offering an L-shaped dinette to starboard, wet bar to port side, and central helm joined by two companion way seats at both sides. The new Viking 44 Open is powered by twin Man 800hp engines giving top speeds up to 37 knots.

Project: Heron 56

Heron is a new brand located in Rome, Fiumicino and present its first model the 56 to a design by Massimo Picco.  An important project the Heron 56 puts a lot of effort in hull design with standard engines of twin Volvo 435hp and IPS pod drives estimating a top speed of 32 knots.  As is usual with the Italian Rome builders, the Heron 56 follows some traditional elements; see flush deck with other modern touches as the t-hard top.  The lower deck of the Heron 56 will be fully dedicated to three double cabins, with each cabin served with its own private head.  A crew cabin with head is located to starboard.  Living and galley are located on the main deck in an area covered by the hard top.  The first hull of the Heron 56 has launched in August 2017 so at this stage we are waiting for the pictures of the first unit, of what looks a very promising model.

New Model: Apreamare 11m Gozzo

In a publicity stint which started in June and lasted over two months the Gozzo from Apreamare has finally arrived.  This new eleven meter model, and soon to become range is designed by Brunello Acampora of Victory Design and inspired by company boss Cataldo Aprea.  This is a very interesting product and once again we see a geniality from Cataldo Aprea challenge his Neopolitan routes and bring another different stint to the traditional Italian Gozzo fishing boat.  The twist here, makes the Gozzo range a very stylish day or weekend cruiser.  A few surprises come into this new eleven meter Gozzo with the most notable that it is powered by stern drives; standard single or optional twin units what is a first for Apreamare.  The accommodation layout of the 11m Gozzo is really spot on.  The main deck offers a central settee with a C-shaped dinette looking forward, and a bench looking aft which converts to large double sun-pad, at midships is a central helm station, to port side is relaxing lounge settee, while astern of the helm is another settee.  If desired this area will also be offered with a modern designed T-top which thanks to extendable bimini and forward and aft removable poles, can cover the whole deck from fore to aft  Below the 11m Gozzo offers a galley, shower head, double berth forward cabin, and double midships located berth.  The accommodation is enough for long weekend trips, but the small fuel tank of 450 liters leaves a bit to be desired if you choose the twin engines installation.  Compliments again go to Apreamare for breaking monotony, it is not the first time this Neapolitan builder does this, so chapeau.

New Model: Pershing 9X

Pershing continues the X and presents the second chapter of the series the 9X.  This new generation X is a maxi super sport yacht coupe with aggressive lines and lavish comfort. The new 9X has a broad use of carbon as the main construction material, along with fiberglass and epoxy resin. Based on the hull of the 92, the 9X continues Fulvio de Simoni vision for the brand as started with the 70 model in the fall of 2014, and followed with 5X in 2016. The result is a powerful yacht in the sea, rich in fittings and equipped with numerous technological innovations that offer a unique navigation experience and ease of maneuver, even in confined waters, unthinkable on a yacht of 28 meters in length and with surface drives. The prestigious ten-year collaboration with Poltrona Frau also gave birth to a magnificent design: an extremely sporty dashboard, a stylistic and technical masterpiece.  The Pershing is offered in two lower deck layout choices for four or three double cabins.  In the optional three cabin layout one of the twin berth cabins is replaced by a dinette, with the head of this fourth cabin becoming a walk-in wardrobe for the VIP suite forward.  A nice feature in the 9X is the day-head in the stairway which leads from the main deck to the cabins.  Galley and crew cabins are located at midships in between the engine room and owners midships stateroom.  Power for the 9X comes from twin MTU 2638hp with top speeds up to 42 knots.  The 9X is proving a commercial success for Pershing with the fourth hull receiving order in the first days of the Cannes boat show.

Uniesse New Web Site

Italian builder Uniesse updates its website to a new platform, which coincides with a new US ownership for the brand. Founded in 1990 by the Scaburri brothers Giuseppe and Danilo in Bergamo, they started by building first the Fly line, and later on in 1996 it presented the Open range with the 48 model, this last proving a succesful decision over the years.  Come the start of the new millennium Uniesse ventures into more Italian European looks, with the presentation of the 72 MY in the year 2000, which is followed by a 55 MY and a 54 Sport in a couple of years enlarging the modern looking family.  All Uniesse models have been designed by Fred Hudson who gave a superior hull shape and a unique combination of sportfish looks and an Italian cruise touch to the lines and interior of the first generation models. In July 2017 Uniesse was purchased by SMB Investor David Schwedel and Rafael Barca, this last has been with the company since 1994 introducing the brand in the USA and representing it since then. Uniesse offers fifteen models in four different lines: Motor Yacht, Exuma, HT, and Sport.  The line currently starts with the 49 Exuma and goes up to the 115 Motor Yacht.  Of the fifteen models most are in project stages with expected updates to previous successful models of the range, and others which are completely new. New Model: Sanlorenzo SX88

The new Sanlorezo SX88 has been one of the most awaited projects for the year 2017.  The wait was due for many factors, important was the promotion Sanlorenzo created for the SX88, but another reason which got many people excited was seeing something completely new and out of the box design for the famous yet usually conservative Ligurian yacht and super yacht builder.  Truth be told, that since Massimo Perotti took over in 2005 we have seen Sanlorenzo go into other different segments see SD and Exp line, but this new SX88 is surely something very new even in respect to the other lines.  For the SX88 Sanlorenzo entrusted the help of many known designers; Officina Italiana exterior, Lou Codega for hull shape, and interiors by Piero Lissoni.  The SX88 will feature a helm only on the flybridge deck, and there is a choice for four or five guest cabins layout, with an owners stateroom located to midships or on the main deck option. Three different deck layouts are available from Sanlorenzo without moving any structure areas of the super yacht.  The helm station on the flybridge can be fully window closed and air-conditioned.  The stern area is a lowered spacious open space and can be used for tender stowage or a free beach area.  Power for the Sanlorenzo SX88 is from Volvo 800hp engines with IPS pod drives propulsion, this being another first for the Italian boat builder.  Commercial success has gone beyond expectations with the Sanlorenzo SX88 selling nine units before its official boat show debut in Cannes a week ago.

Project: Azimut 55 Flybridge

You can never stop developing and looking forward, and that is what Azimut and Righini have been doing in over two decades of working together. When you speak of the Azimut 55 produced from 2001 till 2009 you are speaking about the best selling flybridge motor yacht ever build which sold in around the five hundred unit mark.  The interior of the 55 launched in Genoa boat show year 2000 was a revolution for the segment which inspired the new age of flybridge motor yachts.  Now Azimut after a decade returns the 55 name into its flybridge range with this looking forward sixteen meter project set to launch in mid 2018.  Stefano Righini, and Achille Salvagni are the designers of this Azimut 55 Flybridge, exterior and interior respectively.  For this project Azimut made the most for a near to five meter beam.  The interior will feature three double cabins with two heads, and crew cabin berth aft. The living is located on the main deck, and for a first time we are seeing Azimut with an astern galley layout, joined by a patio door which fully opens and disappears, creating a single connection with the aft cockpit deck.  For this new Azimut 55 Flybridge, Righini has integrated design cues from the S range, see bow, and an important detail to note is that he is not overdoing it with hull side windows going for a more traditional pattern of serving owners and VIP cabin forward.  The Azimut 55 Flybridge will be powered by twin 800hp engines and will weight 29 tons full loaded, don't know if this is a typo but that is four tons more to the new 60.  Speed estimates are a max of 31 knots.

New Model: Fairline 63 Targa GTO

Fairline's renaissance is fully under way and the British boat builder kept its important promise of unveiling the new 63 Targa GTO in the fall of 2017.  A race against the clock for hull one to launch only two weeks before the important Cannes show.  It is high momentum for the British boat builder which follows the launch of the 53 Squadron in January, and also the full start of the Alberto Mancini era.  The 63 Targa GTO is from top to bottom the first Fairline fully designed by Mancini, with two project models already following, showing a positive outlook to the Italian designer work. Customers should also rejoice at the customisation the 63 Targa GTO brings; five different options for the lower deck, same number for the main deck, and two cockpit aft deck choices.  Something seen in the 53 series, but its good to see Fairline persevering in this direction.  Basically unheard solutions in these dimensions by the large European builders, of which Fairline was an important member not so long ago.  Considering the customisation on offer for the new models; 63 Targa and the 53 series of Targa and Squadron I am not sure if Fairline wants to be part of that club.  Which is not a bad thing when thinking that when you build this way speculation building is out of the window and production times are slowed by not a small margin when it comes to the fitting of the yachts.  That means Fairline is building each boat for customers and the way they intend to use it, which if you are a buyer is good news for you.
