New Model: Cranchi E 52 F Evoluzione

The new Evoluzione is the next evolutionary step, as the Italian name says in Cranchi's near to one century and a half long standing story.  Born as the 50 Fly project in the fall of 2015, the Cranchi E 52 F Evoluzione is mirror to the S we presented a few weeks ago in PowerYachtBlog with the important difference being the flybridge up top.  Access to the fly is from a staircase to starboard on the aft deck, and this features the standard today layout of a C-shaped dinette, two forward facing settee, and a wet-bar. Carlo Riva 1922 - 2017

The Riva shipyards, the Ferretti Group and the entire world of yachting are grieving over the loss of an unrivaled creator of boats, a master of style and elegance. An extraordinary man who turned his family name into a legend and a brand into a synonym of yachting itself.  Farewell Mr. Riva, and enjoy the sea in your last voyage towards the horizon. The world of yachting throughout the world bids an emotional farewell to Mr. Carlo Riva, who passed away today in his home town of Sarnico at the age of 95.  Just four letters epitomize the history, the legend, the technology and the appeal of Italian made yachts. The history of a family and of an extraordinary man, the legend of a whole era that saw the launching of Italian design onto the world stage, from the days of “La Dolce Vita” through to the present day.  An ongoing technological evolution which has always been the hallmark of the boats crafted in the Riva boatyards: from the timeless charm of traditional wood to state-of-the-art fiberglass and steel. Masterpieces conceived, designed, built and inspired by the genius and style of a unique man who has become a legend.

Project: Sessa 64 Explorer

Sessa present the project for a new Explorer 64, to a design by Davide Cipriani of Centrostiledesign.  At the root of this concept entirely conceived and designed by Davide Cipriani's team is a new way of experience the sea, by seizing all of its beauty at any moment of the day. The design of the roomy and spacious interiors goes in this direction. The main deck of the 64 Explorer is reserved for a large salon, galley and helm station, while the lower deck is the sleeping accommodation area, with a double full beam owners stateroom with private access, and a guests and VIP suites both with their own bathrooms.  These areas bask in natural light coming from the outside through large continuous windows on the hull and the side glass wall of the main salon that exploits the concept of “through house” to establish a continuous relationship between interiors and exterior scenarios. In the same way the goal of the definitely high level furnishings project is to recreate the comfort and intimacy of a home, in addition to giving the owner the possibility to personalize his living space. Comfort and a welcoming atmosphere are the guidelines for the exteriors project as well. The 80 sq.m terrace and two decks are dedicated to guests and are ideal for relaxing at any time.  The Explorer 64 project combines the beauty of a larger yacht with functionality by adopting innovative ergonomic solutions such as the design of the bow.  Straight lines contrast with a soft and capacious aft, the result of scrupulous calculations made during the design step. What emerges is a yacht able to part the waves and disperse their energy, in this way ensuring safe, comfortable and low-cost navigation in any condition, even with a moderate sea. Its large tanks of 4500 liters and spacious material storage area also give the yacht a range of over 3000 miles.  The partnership between Centrostiledesign and Sessa carries on after the prior project of the Fly 21 Gullwing presented in the fall of 2016.

Outer Reef New Web Site

Outer Reef Yachts updates its virtual web showroom to a new version. Outer Reef was started unknowingly in 1996 by current Chief Executive Officer and President Jeff Druek, a previous luxury home builder who did a couple of deals selling speculative build yachts decided to build a sixty foot long range motor yacht for himself.  As it happens this first Outer Reef   Completely hand built and finished in Taiwan with a design and US building standards, Outer Reef Motor and Super Yachts are built to CE A category, and have semi displacement hull shapes. Most sought from Outer Reef yachts is the speed which gives a long range at a slow ten knots cruise, but also top speeds in the twenty knots region to return quickly in harbor when the weather does not look good. A much appreciated feature in all Outer Reef yachts is the semi customization which goes from the finishing to the planning of the inside meeting up with the owners wishes. Outer Reef has seen growth in recent years, helped by rise in fuel prices and an increase in semi displacement hulled yachts interests, with buyers looking more to engines with less power, and more convenient to run boats. Currently Outer Reef offers twenty models from 58 to 115 feet, divided in two ranges; Classic and Trident series. The entry level model is the 580 Motor Yacht, while the flagship is the 115 Explorer. Project: Baltic 112MY

In an exciting long-term business expansion initiative to build fully-custom motor yachts, Baltic Yachts is reacting to client demand for high quality, lightweight yachts to fill a gap in the market up to sixty meters.  Baltic Yachts is steeped in sailing yacht construction and engineering experience using advanced composites. The values found at the company’s reputation for innovation and top quality in sailing yachts will transfer seamlessly to the new motor yacht range.  Everything from precisely engineered advanced composite construction to the latest techniques in anti-vibration, sound deadening and propulsion systems will be used to build lighter, more efficient motor yachts. Baltic new motor yacht division will run on a fully custom basis open to all naval architects, designers and stylists.  Baltic has received a lot of positive reaction to a restored 25m timber build Alalunga motor yacht Sunny Day, re-launched from Baltic Yachts last year after a major refit. Her reincarnation has been a great success and prompted considerable client interest. She is currently cruising in the Caribbean and will re-locate to the Mediterranean later this year.  Baltic Yachts will also show the opportunity to showcase its motor yacht building capability with the launch of MY78, Bill and Me, this summer.  One of the first projects of this new plan is the above rendered Baltic 112MY designed by Designed Unlimited.  The British design firm is working on two other projects one of which is of eighty feet.

Project: Belize 66 Sedan

Belize has just announced the latest in its line of classically-styled motor yachts, with a project for a new 66 model designed by Stephen Ford.  The new 66 builds on the heritage, first unveiled in 2011, of a luxury traditional inspired yacht that evokes the styles of a bygone era of yachting, of gleaming hand-crafted interiors and, most importantly, of individuality.  The original Belize 54 quickly attracted owners who, after many years of boating, knew exactly what they wanted and had found a marque and a team who could help them create their ultimate yacht.  Today, 25 Belize 54 are cruising international waters, from the coral reefs of Queensland to the Great Lakes and New England regions of the United States where style and tradition are part of the yachting bloodline. Owners are supported by the professional Riviera worldwide dealership and services network.  Now the Belize marque has taken the concept of a semi-custom yacht to a new level with the 66, that delivers a new sense of space, comfort and luxury and offers an unmatched level of customization and bespoke elements.  The 66 is available in Sedan or Daybridge models, with three or four cabins with a large aft utility room or optional crew quarters.  The 66 Sedan rendered above is the hard top more coupe style variant with the living all concentrated on the main deck.   Power is delivered by Volvo with IPS pod propulsion.  Three hulls have been sold, with the first being a 66 Sedan for a US client, which has started construction and has a mid 2018 delivery schedule.

blogger - Ten Years of PowerYacht

Ten years have gone since PowerYachtBlog was started, and much have changed since.  If I had to use a couple of words describing the last ten years, I would say it was a roller coaster ride. The yachting industry has grown from a timid niche industry to something more big and industrialized in the first years of the new millennium, meaning it became more relative to outside forces.
When I launched the blog in 2007 yachting was going into its most growing period ever.  It was an enthusiastic and competitive industry only looking forward.  Then came the recession in the fall of 2008.  It got stale at first but in less a year period things where not looking so bad.  But it was a false hope as by 2011 the recession really hit Europe with full stride and it took three to four years to start the recovery.
Looking forward media has also changed, when PowerYacht started product blogs where the thing of the internet.  Today Bloging is facing increased competition from video i.e. Vloging.  The interest of PowerYacht to jump on Vloging is existent since a few years but the cost for doing it with an acceptable quality are another matter.
Happy tenth birthday PowerYacht and big thanks to the two million of viewers who have supported since launch.
