New Model: Sacs 15 Strider

Sacs presents the new 15 Strider, evolution of a series that includes seven models from 8 to 15 meters, which have the same design, but different length and roominess. This new model is a gain a project of designer and long time Sacs collaborator Christian Grande and sits at the top of the range or Rib Cruisers and Yachts. Despite the walk around deck, the 15 Strider features a nice cabin with maximum height reaching two meters in the galley and in the shower head. A king size berth is located forward, while to aft there is a twin berth. The size of the cockpit is very large making use of nearly all the lenght and beam minus the inflatable exterior; there are sofas, easy chairs and kitchenette. Even at the bow, there is a living with two settees which offers the possibility of sunbathing. The whole deck can be protected by awnings easilty. At the stern, an electic system allows preparing the parasol without any effort, while at the bow, the bimini can be mounted using lightweight carbon supports to slip into their seats. The aft sun pad and the bathing platform are enormous and their sizes define the daily vocation of the 15 Strider. A center console with a very light T-top, realized as the entire construction with the resin vacuum infusion technology, protects the helm, along with a wide windshield. The center console is also server by four pilot seats whichare enveloped and well padded. Project: Azimut 43 Magellano HT

It is a growing trend to offer versions of the same model, which cater for different owners uses and  tastes.  Azimut always in high alert to client trends does actually this with the project of the 43 Magellano HT for Hard Top, to be presented a month later to the full flybridge version at the Genoa boat show.  This new 43 Magellano follows all the style of the flybridge sister designed by Cor D. Rover and having Bill Dixon much celebrated semi displacement dual mode hull.  A three cabins lower deck with owners cabin to fore, and a living on the main deck with astern galley are the characteristics of this entry level of the Magellano range.  Power is from twin Cummins 305 or 355hp which should give a max speed of 22 knots.

Propulsion: Reintjes Fortjes 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000

Reintjes from Germany has come with a new innovative pod drive drive system suitable for yachts from fifteen up to 36 meters in length. The Fortjes drive system consists of an upper reversing gearbox, a foundation plate and a non steerable pod with two counter-rotating propellers. Ideal flow conditions are achieved by means of an asymmetrical shaft. This effect is enhanced even further by two counter-rotating propellers. This not only results in considerably reduced cavitation but also in an almost irrational flow at the rudder blade, which makes the drives far more efficient and wear-resistant than other system types. The fixed-pod design, as opposed to steerable pods, has a positive effect on the sailing stability. In practice, this becomes obvious instantaneously. Also in challenging power ranges, the yacht can be safely handled and precisely manoeuvred, which makes the boating experience even more enjoyable and increases the comfort. With its extremely compact design Fortjes not only contributes to a considerable weight reduction, but also saves a lot of space: a drive system with a 5000 series, as compared to a conventional fixed-propeller drive with a propulsive power of 2600hp, needs two meters less installation space and provides the designer with additional room for individual configurations. The Reintjes Fortjes system also offers advantages to shipyards: All components can quickly and easily be integrated into the ship’s hull within just four hours.  Here the specially developed installation system plays a crucial role. It takes up the gearbox in the engine room and, below the waterline, forms the basis for mounting the pod. After the foundation plate has been built into the hull, the gearbox and the pod can be connected with each other. The installation costs of this drive train are considerably lower. An important note is that the Fortjes drive system has been designed for use in different hull forms and is compatible with all customary engines.  Yachts with a Fortjes drive can be traditionally steered using a steering gear and engine control or, optionally and very elegantly, via a joystick. All steering and control functions, including those for bow thrusters and stern thrusters, can be integrated in one control system.  The German Reintjes Fortjes is available so far in five versions; 1000 up to 670hp, 2000 up to 938hp, 3000 up to 1200hp, 4000 up to 2000hp, and 5000 up to 2600hp.  There is also at works the smi custom 6000 unit which can be available for larger horsepower engine.

Project: Galeon 445 HTS

Since the third generation has started for Galeon, the Polish boat builder has raised the bar impressively especially for the exterior looks of its models at unheard pace.  The new 445 HTS project which again comes from the hands and brains of long collaboration British designer Tony Castro further enhances the Galeon style.  A sport cruiser with a length of over thirteen meters the new 445 project joins the family of this series from Galeon featuring the very well received 325 and 385 models.  With this new model Galeon aims to consolidate more its market into open sport cruisers.  Option is a word in the Galeon DNA, and the 445 will bring loads of them; from a big sun lounger with big tender garage under neath to this being half the size and giving more space to the settee in the cockpit.  There will also be choice for an up and down bathing platform, if you want may be to carry more then one tender.  Another choice will also be drop down windows in the main deck which close two-thirds of the main deck. Interior skylight and big windows will be a dominant feature, with a plan offering three double cabins served by two heads, saloon, and a galley.  Power will be stern drive or pod drive propulsion choices with engines starting at 400 up to 558hp.

Project: Rivera 50 Enclosed Flybridge

Riviera has just officially released details for an upcoming new 50 Enclosed Flybridge. This stunning new model is currently under construction and will make her world debut in 2013.  The new 50 Enclosed Flybridge is expected to prove equally enticing as her big sister, the 53 Enclosed Flybridge. Powered by new generation fuel efficient twin Cummins with Zeus pod drives, or alternatively twin Volvo IPS with 700hp engines.  Riviera’s new 50 Enclosed Flybridge is expected to top 32 knots, cruising between 25 and 28 knots and delivering a range of 400 nautical miles. Created in-house on Unigraphics 3D software, by Riviera’s team of designers and engineers, the focus is for absolute maximisation of design and space. The design team have retained the knwon for Riviera look while introducing some exciting new design aspects such as double side transom doors which allow better access from both the port and starboard sides, mezzanine seating with integrated table, enhanced cockpit storage with a self-draining moulded lazarette bin that has been integrated into the cockpit floor, tender storage on the boarding platform, increased side deck access, a large aft C-shaped lounge that runs the width of the flybridge, flexible accommodation plan, full head room in the two aft cabins, attractive enhancements to the exterior profile lines balancing the flybridge and saloon window, and huge hull windows with opening port holes on both sides giving the two aft cabins an abundance of natural light and fresh air. An additional 1.7 metres more of overall living space between the bow and stern has been made available through the incorporation of pod drives as compared to a similar sized shaft-driven boat. The new 50 Enclosed Flybridge features three luxuriously appointed staterooms and two bathrooms.  A washer and dryer are concealed behind varnished cabinetry in the companionway. In a first for Riviera, there is the option to have the master stateroom forward or nidships on the port side. The saloon offers a huge U-shaped modern galley with polished Corian solid surface benchtops, European appliances and accoutrement's and ‘timber’ Amtico flooring. Forward of the galley is a U-Shaped dinette to port and plush L-shaped lounge to starboard with several ottomans allowing for extra seating around the dinette or can be pushed up against the settee to create a large chaise. An internal staircase adjacent to the galley leads up to the impressive flybridge which features a helm station forward on the port side with an adjacent L-shaped lounge allowing guests to easily converse with the skipper. A wet bar is located behind the helm chairs and aft in the flybridge is an enormous C-Shaped lounge that runs full beam of the flybridge, making it a great conversation and entertaining space not only when the boat is underway but also at anchor.  The new 50 Enclosed Flybridge will make her world release in 2013 and Riviera has already taken orders off the plan for this new vessel.

Project: Carver 34 Fly

A very interesting flybridge motor cruiser project, this is in short the new Carver 34 Fly, set to be unveiled by the end of this year.  Having a length over all of just under eleven meters this project from Carver seems to offer incredible spaces, and is also well though out for cruising.  Good fuel capacity just short of one thousand liters, and nice living area with galley up features are definitely things to like.  Two twin cabins; owners to fore and guest to starboard, and a separate spacious shower head to port are located below deck.  The 34 also offers a well though out flybridge, which is also quite spacious with a helm to starboard, C-shaped dinette to port, and sun pad to aft.  There is also choice for what regards a lower helm or not, and convertible C-shaped saloon for two extra berths.  Carver has so far not communicated much about engines and propulsion so for this we have to wait till launch.

New Model: Dalla Pieta DP70 Fly

Finally this new Dalla Pieta DP70 Fly have seen the water.  I can actually testify as this new Dalla Pieta model, also flagship of its flybridge motor yacht line visited Malta in the first part of the season. This new Dalla Pieta 70 Fly follows the conceptual elements of this Venice builder who always presented very easy to the eye call them harmonic looking cruisers and yachts with a big emphasis on sea keeping, full hand building, semi custom choice, and good performance.  When I saw the Dalla Pieta 70 Fly I was definitely impressed by its slimmer hull, showing the usual Dalla Pieta attention to performance and good sea keeping.  We can also see in the specifications the construction element where the Dalla Pieta actually weighs just short of forty tons unloaded.  This is what most known names and production yachts of this size usually weight loaded with fuel.  Four or three cabins lower deck layout are offered for the 70 Fly with the fourth cabin being a bunk, and the master room at full beam midships.  Two crew cabins served by a shower head are available for the crew to aft.  Power is twin MAN 1550hp which will give a 35 knots top speed.
