Improve-it = Ocean Yachts 37 Bill Fish

Ocean Yachts improves its 37 Bill Fish after two years since its introduction. Much appreciated since introduced in 2007 for its classic looks representing sportfish boats of days gone by, this smart sportfish cruiser entry level of the Ocean Yachts range gets added with a new Volvo IPS propulsion engine option. Following recent trends, the much acclaimed 37 Bill Fish now is available with twin Volvo IPS600 435hp each engines. This option replace the shafts, rudders and propeller pockets of the original version with Volvo's forward looking IPS pod drives, and with this adds the easy to use joystick too. Easy to say that the 37 Bill Fish looks classic outside but is all modern schematics inside, from the finishing touches of the cabin, engines, and to the control stations of both helms.

Propulsion: Volvo Penta OceanX

Volvo Penta introduces OceanX, a new sterndrive with revolutionary new coating and sensor technology that greatly improves the corrosion resistance of the aluminum drives. This exciting new drive offers technological innovations for increased performance, environmental care, safety and easy maintenance. OceanX is designed for select Volvo Penta gasoline and diesel engines. The OceanX uses state-of-the art electro-deposit to apply a titanium-ceramic coating that greatly improves the corrosion resistance of the aluminum castings making it perfect for the salt water environment. This highly durable and flexible coating covers the entire drive for maximum protection. It is chromate free and environmentally friendly. This new process allows Volvo Penta to continue to its commitment of care for the environment. The OceanX drive also includes two new features never before incorporated on a sterndrive package. A new sterndrive oil sensor warns the boater when drive oil is low or contaminated with water and another sensor mounts in the universal joint bellows between the OceanX drive and the boat transom. This sensor sounds a warning if water has entered that critical area and may lead to failure. Engines for the new OceanX drive are 5.0 GXi, 5.7 Gi-300, 5.7 Gxi, 8.1 GI, 8.1 GXi for Petrol Gasoline, and D3-130, D3-160, and D3-190 for the diesels.

New Model: Riviera 3600 Sport Yacht Series II

PowerYacht Blog brings another exclusive preview bringing the first 3600 Sport Yacht Series II in Europe and in the Mediterranean. As shown in Project a few months back, Riviera presented important updates to its 3600 Sport Yacht in a new Series II version. Project: Rodman 50 Muse

Rodman continue to expand the high profiled Muse range with the project rendering for a 50 model set to be launched in Cannes. The 50 Muse will sit between the small 44 latest model of the range, and the 54 which was the first. As all Muse models the 50 is designed by World famous Italian architect Fulvio De Simoni who created a nice looking modern motor yacht. De Simoni and Rodman present a project with a well sized flybridge and main deck saloon with galley up solution. Down below the offer is for a three cabin layout with two heads, of which one en suite for the owner, and a guest shower head. The large hull side windows will suggest to the many a full beam owners cabin, but so far the plans show a traditional fore owners cabin, a VIP cabin to port, and a twin guest cabin to starboard. A crew cabin with head is located aft. Performance to the new hull design is an estimated 32 knots max, and a cruising speed of 26 knots at 70% power with twin Volvo 670hp.

James 'Jim' C. Sculley 1941 - 2009

Jim Sculley, founder of Sculley Boatbuilders, passed away unexpectedly on June 1, 2009. His presence will be keenly missed within the sportfishing community. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Ingrid Sculley, son, James G. Sculley, daughter, Ingrid Diane Sculley, and grandson, James Crespo. Born in Newport Beach, California on May 30, 1941, he was residing in Ft. Myers, Florida but with lasting ties to Virginia Beach and Wanchese on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Native to southern California, he grew up fishing alongside his father on their commercial boat. It was there he had his first encounters with the new sportfish boats and as a kid he dreamed that someday, maybe he can have one of those. After much success in the restaurant business, he was in Hilton Head, SC he befriended and fished with Virginia Beach native Captain Earl Richardson. It was this friendship that brought Jim to Virginia Beach to purchase Fisherman’s Wharf Marina and the Riverhouse Restaurant on Rudee Inlet in 1990. Jim quickly became a fixture in the local offshore fishing community and quietly made a deep and lasting impression on many. During his years at the marina, he owned and operated a variety of sportfish, garnering a broad knowledge and experience of the best and the worst the industry had to offer. Taking that a few steps further, he started Sculley Boatbuilders in 1999, integrating his years of offshore experience with a vision of the best attributes of production and custom builds combined. Thanks to his vision, ten years later Sculley Boatbuilders continues to produce one of the finest sportfishing yachts on the water. Jim’s passion was tournament fishing, and he was at the helm whether it was a low-key home tournament or the ESPN2 Xtreme Release Billfishing Series. In addition to top honors in the 2004 Xtreme Release Series, Team Sculley won and placed in several other East Coast tournaments over the years. But a day offshore, fishing with Sculley was a treat regardless, and always memorable. He will be remembered for it all and missed deeply.

The ninth edition of the Azimut-Benetti Yachtmaster, the event which every year gathers the Benetti fleet captains and the captains of the Azimut yachts above 85', brought a wave of excitement and freshness bringing together all the members in the charming setting of Marrakech in Marocco. The event, held in Marrakech from March the 2nd to the 6th 2009, has been possible also thanks to the warming support of a significant number of partner companies which have sponsored this 9th edition with enthusiasm. Goes to them our greatest gratitude. The main topic of this 9th edition has been the State of the art technology consistent with some new products developed by the shipyard in collaboration with partner companies and with the request of the captains elaborated in a customer satisfaction questionnaire after the past edition. The workshops, developed during the morning, have been dynamic and interactive and saw the captains discuss topic of great interest. CRN Presents Conceirgerie Monaco

It looks after and pays attention to the leitmotif of the service offered by the company of Ancona: the clients are "cuddled" with unique 24 hour services and a reserved area on the internet with constant updates regarding the progress of their own megayacht "CRN Conciergerie Monaco" is an exclusive service that CRN offers to its current and past clients. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, this "club" is strictly reserved to ship owners and their families, who can benefit from the dedicated services: including hotel and restaurant reservations and events; ranging from theatre tickets to a boat parking space; from private planes to helicopters. Based within the strategic setting of Munich, where last year CRN opened its agency, CONCIERGERIE MONACO derives from a fundamental principle on which the entire CRN is based: placing the client at the centre, offering the best, with care and dedication, which is also applied to shipbuilding.A Conciergerie Card gives clients access to the services being offered, presently active all over the Italian peninsula and Cote D’Azur and soon available in the best places of the Mediterranean. Moreover, to ensure closeness to its ship owners, CRN has also set up a reserved area on its website, www.crn-yacht.com, giving access to a "virtual window" on the shipyard such that one may obtain the latest updates regarding one's own craft: through a virtual meeting room ship owners can be constantly updated on the work progress of their ships being built, making it possible to enjoy the step by step "birth of their megayacht". CRN has devised an extraordinary service to be side by side its ship owners: complete assistance is provided, taking care of the least details with a single objective, that of providing an unrepeatable experience in maximum tranquillity both on board and on land. Therefore, CRN goes beyond its core business and offers its clients a real "Personal Assistant", that is, the CRN Conciergierie Monaco service.

Mochi New Advertising Campaign

Since the beginning culture feeds on the past in order to build a different and possibly better future. Mochi Craft agrees completely with this philosophy and becomes holder of "A new sea culture", the new pay-off that goes together with the red Dolphin symbol of the shipyard. Future and innovation, by the way, are always inspired by imagination, dreams and by the aim to look forward and farer. This visionary attitude moves Mochi Craft and pushed architects and designers to conceive unique and unmistakable yachts. Two hearts of Mochi Craft - Dolphin line which invented the Lobster Boat "Italian Style" and Long Range 23 the revolutionary first motor-yacht over 20 metres able to cruise in "Zero Emission Mode" - are in the spotlight of the new advertising campaign which will be planned on the main nautical and lifestyle magazines. The communication agency INADV conceived new advertisements that fully reflect the shipyard character in two campaigns: the campaign "Islands" created for Dolphin line embodies this concept through unreal islands that represent the most beautiful cities in the world, far and unreachable for everyone but not for Mochi. Headline "We Create Words that others can't even imagine" strengthen what in shown in the visual part. Mochi Craft is a visionary and strongly innovative brand, talented to make what is inconceivable for other shipyards. The second campaign "Drop-curtain" realized for the last model of the fleet Long Range 23 reflects the aim of the brand through the overcoming of the horizon line that the owner pulls up like a sort of curtain: limits are moved because going where everyone can go is not enough for the person who sails in this revolutionary motor-yacht. The sub head, "The ambition to look forward. The ability to get there" appears in both campaigns and underlines that Mochi Craft is reaching these target thanks to his visionary and dreamy attitude but also thanks to absolute quality and cutting hedge technology that represent the yard's DNA.

Mochi Gets Another Award

During the eagerly awaited Internautica 2009 boat show in Portorose, Slovenia Mochi Craft Long Range 23 was awarded as "BOAT of INTERNAUTICA 2009" in the category "Motor Yachts and Boats" and at the same time obtained the prestigious honour of "Yacht of the Year" assigned by the leading magazine Val Nautika.

Project: Diano 30

The largest boat ever from historical Riva Trigoso, Genoa builders Diano a company part of InRizzardi Group, is a 30 meter motor yacht, hardwood built on an individualized basis as in this builders tradition. An epitome of Italian style, Diano Crowbridge’s sober and elegant design is made contemporary in the straight lines that create a tension of slender surfaces and the wide, soft curves that give dynamism and a sense of continuity to this boat. Diano 30 meter Crowbridge is hardwood and mahogany marine plywood hull to superstructure. Interiors feature details of a striking refinement. Paint conceals Diano’s woodwork totally, yet it is thanks to the nobility of this material, to the sobriety of lines and simplified forms that this boat stands apart from the hyper sophistication of most fiberglass yachts. Diano Crowbridge has five staterooms, including one central full beam master stateroom. Twin guest staterooms are forward with aligned beds. Additional twin guest staterooms have beds arranged to form an angular scheme. Each room has private facilities, air conditioning, telephone and HiFi systems, LCD television. Twin crew quarters are aft and have air conditioning, television and stereo systems and separate facilities. Interior fittings are cherry wood with blue leather upholstery. Deckheads finishes are precious fabrics and white lacquered woods. The spacious galley is fitted with an African black marble top and white teak slat flooring. Bathroom vanity tops are statuary marble. The opening aft hatch and accommodation ladder on the starboard side are also distinctive features of Diano 30 metre Crowbridge. Naval carpentry is an excellence in naval construction because wood boat construction processes are very complex to achieve quality standards as per applicable legislation. Wood yachts are amongst the most prized ever. Their fascination lies in a particular way to navigate that bears in itself the evolution of technology and the entire history of navigation. Based on a study of Diano’s brand DNA, Crowbridge’s design has been developed in a symbiosis of the Genoa builders and designers from Proship, La Spezia. The objective was to conjugate client expectations and functionality and usability of this construction.
