Sea Ray Sport Cruiser Ends Aground in St. Andrews Jetties

A ten meter Sea Ray sport cruisers collided and ended aground on the Shell island side of St. Andrews Jetty, to the South of Panama City on the night of Thursday 28th March.  According to unconfirmed reports the Sea Ray lost power on her way out, and ended aground on the jetty, piercing the hull and partially sinking.  Two boat salvage attempts for the Sea Ray sport cruiser were made by SeaTow the following day and Sunday, with pumps emptying water and a tow with no success.  Ultimately and unfortunately the Sea Ray sport cruiser was still in the spot one week after the accident and then ended sank and wrecked.
The Sea Ray in this grounding is a 350 Sundancer as produced from 2010 to 12. Available with both stern drive or V-drive line shaft engines, the 350 Sundancer was a good seller in a difficult economy.  An evolution of the 330 Sundancer which launched in 2008 and recognizable by the different port holes, the 350 evolved again in 2012 into the 355, with a new stern design and larger hull glazing serving the lower cabin deck.

Two People Saved from Boat Fire in Portsmouth Harbor

Two people where rescued after an eleven meter traditional cruiser burst into flames near Portsmouth Harbor on 15:22 hours of Sunday nineteen June 2022.   Gosport Lifeboat arrived six minutes later on the scene finding the two crew with life jacket's on, standing on the boats edge.  After rescuing the crew, the lifeboat towed the boat, with the duty fire tug SD Independent also arriving on the scene, with the boat sinking before arriving to its planned destination of shallow water.  Following the sinking a clean up to retrieve about 1800 liters of fuel and debris from the boat was started.
The boat in this fire is an Aquastar Oceanranger 38 Aft Cabin.  The Aquastar Oceanranger 38 Aft Cabin was introduced in 1984, following customers requests for more accommodation to the 38 Aft Cockpit which debuted in 1978, the model subsequently evolved into the Ocean Star 118 in 1995, with a soft super structure re-design but all similar elements.

Princess Yacht Ends Aground in Elmwood Australia

A fifteen meter Princess sport yacht with one person onboard ended aground near Beach road, Elmwood, Victoria, Australia on the morning of Tuesday second April.  It is not understood if the person ended aground for an error of navigation or to save the yacht because she was taking on water.  Australia's Channel 7 broke the news saying the person onboard secured the yacht before parting ways.  Unconfirmed news said the Princess yacht was removed from the area after three days.  The Princess yacht in this sinking was reported sold just about a month ago.
The Princess yacht in this grounding is a V50 as designed by Bernard Olesinski and produced from 1998 to 2005.  The Princess V50 was presented as a filling model between the V40 and V55, and was replaced by the V48 in 2006.

Maritimo Yacht Sinks in Baja Mexico

 
A sixteen meter Maritimo yacht titled m/y Sea Horse ended aground and partially sank in Baja, Mexico on the tenth April.  The video of the yacht aground and partly sank was shown on the YouTube channel Cruising Mexico with Jimni, the day after the accident was reported on happening, who showed both outside and inside of Sea Horse.  The yacht had its stern fully destroyed with the collision to the rocks, and was stripped of anything of value.  A hundred meters away to the yacht grounded on a beach was also the yacht's tender, which was also stripped of everything of value.  The causes of the sinking of this Maritimo yacht are not reported.
The Maritimo in this grounding is a M54 Flybridge Motor Yacht model, which debuted in 2016 and was produced till 21.  Featuring a signature down under enclosed bridge design the Maritimo M54 offers a three double cabins, and is powered by twin Volvo 725hp up to 900hp engines with line shaft propulsion.  The M54 was introduced as a replacement to the M53 and was replaced by the M55 which launched in 2021.

Sunseeker Yacht on Fire in New River Fort Lauderdale

A nineteen meter Sunseeker sport yacht went on fire while berthed near the Alluvion Building, New River, Fort Lauderdale on the afternoon of Saturday sixth April. It is not reported if the yacht was attended at the time of the fire, with the fire looking as starting in the cabin area of the main deck.  A video on Instagram by the Lifestyle Miami page showed three fire fighters fighting the fire in the cockpit, while newsroom WPLG also showed a video with the Fire Fighters and a TowboatUS boat arriving at the scene and starting to fighting the fire.
The Sunseeker yacht in this fire is a Predator 62 model as produced from 2005 to 2008. Designed by Don Shead the Predator 62 was a good success for Sunseeker, also for its spaces inside including a spacious full beam owners stateroom.  The Predator 62 came out as replacement to the larger but less spacious inside Predator 68 and was replaced by Predator 64 in 2009.

Super Yacht Fire Extinguished in Fort Lauderdale

A 28 meter classic super yacht titled m/y Estrella under Jersey registry had an onboard fire while berthed behind a home in Marathon Lane, Riverland, Fort Lauderdale, Florida on the morning of Wednesday third April.  Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue where quick to arrive to the scene, and control the blaze.  No one was onboard the yacht when the fire started, with this reported to starting from the main deck.  The causes of the fire are under investigation, with the yacht reported unplugged from it's shore supply when the blaze started, although Estrella does feature a self sufficient Lithium powered solar panel electrical system. 
M/Y Estrella the yacht in this fire is a 95 foot Broward build in alumimium 1988, to an exterior design and naval architecture by its builder, and interior by Dee Robinson.  Estrella is currently listed for sale with Luke Brown Yachts.

Classic Yacht Collides Into Punta Gorda Bridge Florida

A classic sixteen meter Hatteras motor yacht titled Game anchor drifted and collided into the US41 bridge, in Punta Gorda, Florida on the morning of Wednesday third April.  Charlotte County Sheriff Office reported that the yacht was unattended during the collision, with Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission and Florida Highway Patrol being on the scene monitoring the situation.  Strong winds up to fifty knots with its anchorage drifting are the reason the yacht collided into the bridge.  Although unattended during the collision, this classic yacht is reported to be a liveaboard for one person.
The classic Hatteras in this bridge collision is a first generation 53 Motor Yacht as produced from 1969 to 77.  Designed by Jack Hargrave the 53 Motor Yacht was Hatteras flagship at launch, and one of its longest produced models, and including the second version which arrived in 1978 sold over 350 hulls in a nineteen years production up to 1988.

Pershing Yacht on Fire in Dubai

A 26 meter Pershing super sport yacht titled m/y Spirit of Zen went ablaze when moored in her berth at Dubai Marina, Dubai on 11:12 of the morning of second April.  Fire fighters from Dubai Harbor Station responded first to the fire five minutes later, and where then followed by Dubai Civil Defense, with the fire extinguished at 12:28.  No one was injured in the fire, although it is not reported if the yacht was attended at the time of the blaze.  The yacht was badly damaged and listed on its port side, and then sank after the fire was extinguished.  The cause of the fire is now under investigation by the relevant agency.
M/y Spirit of Zen is a 2002 Pershing 88 as designed by Fulvio de Simoni.  Launched to high acclaim in 1999 as the new Pershing flagship, the 88 was considered the yacht of that year, nick named the silver bullet for its color scheme and sporty looks.  Produced till 2004 in seventeen units, the 88 was replaced by the Pershing 90 in 2005.

Azimut Super Yacht Crashes Into Haulover Bridge Safety Barriers

A 32 meter Azimut super yacht titled m/y Double Trouble collided into the bull nose safety barriers of Haulover's Inlet Bridge in Miami, Florida, on the morning of thirtieth March.  The event was filmed by Marco from Philly with Wavy Boats YouTube channel sharing the event first, with Boat Mania Hub and Haulover Inlet Boats giving a different perspective drone filming of the collision the following day.  The yacht did a big noise as it collided with the safety barriers, which caused a damage of six gapping holes damage of about ten centimeters squared, and probably some glass damage in it's midships port side.  The yacht moved away from the collision on its own power.  On Facebook Wavy Boats said that the yacht tried to make a half circle turn to allow incoming traffic to pass, while on YouTube the story is that the Azimut yacht noticed that it could not pass from under the bridge because of high tide.  
M/y Double Trouble is an Azimut Grande 32M as designed by Stefano Righini for exterior with interiors by Achille Salvagni and naval architecture by Ausonio, and produced onwards from 2018.  Designed by Stefano Righini the Grande 32M came out as a replacement to the Grande 30M, and has far sold in 26 units.

Princess Yacht Burns and Sinks in Nelson Bay

A twenty meter Princess motor yacht burned and then sank in Port Stephens Marina, Nelson Bay, New South Wales Australia on 21:30 hours of Monday 25 March.  A dozen fire fighters rushed to the scene, with the yacht later listing to its starboard side and then sinking, with no injuries to any persons happening as the yacht was unattended at the time of the fire.  As the fire was controlled a pollution protection boon was placed around the yacht.  No further damages to other boats and yachts was made, with the fire reported to have started in the engine room.  An investigation is under way to see how the fire started, with a clean and lift up operation being organized.  
The yacht in this fire is a Princess 20M as produced from 1996 to 2002 to a Bernard Olesinski design.  A replacement to the 66, the Princess 20M was replaced by the second generation 65 which came out in the fall of 1998, although the Plymouth boat builder did keep the two yachts in production together for a few years.

Sportfish Express Goes Down After Fire in Clear Lake

A ten meter express sportfish with three persons onboard sank after it developed a small fire in Clear Lake, Kemah, Texas, on the morning of Sunday 24th March.  The three boaters where assisted and taken to safety by League City Police Department, with the Police also putting the fire off.  Unfortunately after this the boat started taking on water, probably from a gap in the exhaust outlet and sank.  According to unconfirmed reports the boat went ablaze after the engine ran dry, setting its exhaust on fire, with this ultimately leading to it's sinking.  TowboatU.S Clear Lake is working on a salvage of the express sportfish cruiser.
The sportfish express in this sinking is a Luhrs 32 Open model as produced from 1994 to 2008, renamed as the 320 onwards from 2000.  The 32 Open shared hull with the 32 Convertible  produced from 1988 to 99, and was replaced by the 30 Open in 2004.  Luhrs was founded in 1949, becoming a successful name in medium size sportfish cruisers, with the company going bankrupt in 2012.  Since then a reborn has been promised, which so far has not materialized.

Marina Fire at Pra, Genoa Burns Nine Boats

A fire in Pra, to the West side of Genoa, Italy just after 03:00 hours on the morning of Tuesday nineteen March burned and destroyed nine boats and damaged a further four of seven to eleven meters in size.  Guardia Costiera and Vigili del Fuoco responded to the fire with one person also being assisted by the 118 emergency medical team, being stuck on one of the boats in the raging fire, and reported as escaping with minor injuries.  Nine boats sank in this fire, while a remaining four are still floating, with the marina pontoon also receiving damage.  The Genoa Port Master advised the boat owners and marina owner to recover the boats and salvage the area, with a pollution boon being placed and cleaning operations starting on the early hours of the morning.  At this stage it is not understood how and where the fire started.
Most of the boats in this fire seems to be small runabout outboard powered center consoles of about seven meters in length, although in one of the photos there is a sport cruiser of about nine meters in length, looking to be a Bayliner 320/335 SB as produced from 2008 to 12.
Pra is located on the further West side of Genoa's large harbor which spans seven and a half nautical miles and ends to the East, at the Marina Fiera di Genova, where the World famous Genova Boat Show is held every fall since 1962.   There is 25 pontoons in Pra, with eight small boat yards, mostly serving small to medium sized boats from five to about fifteen meters.

Super Sport Yacht Ends Aground in Port Ginesta Spain

A 24 meter super sport yacht tiled m/y Scandal with two crew onboard ended aground by the entrance of Molin Lars Marina in Port Ginesta, to the South of Barcelona, Spain on Sunday tenth March.  After the yacht ran aground the crew where airlifted to safety by a helicopter.  The yacht ended aground during maneuvering procedure while exiting after entering the marina because of strong winds and high seas, with an undisclosed testimony also stating that a bad trajectory also led to the yacht ending aground.  The yacht was reported leaking diesel fuel after the grounding, meaning it breached its hull and fuel tank, with a fuel protection boom not being possible to deploy because of the rough sea conditions.
M/y Scandal is a Tecnomar Velvet 83 as designed by Luca Dini and produced from 2005 to 06 in two units.  The Velvet 83 replaced the Velvet 24 model which debuted in 2001.  Velvet was Tecnomar fully enclosed hard-top sport yacht series from twenty up to 36 meters, produced from 1998 to 2011.

37 meter Super Yacht Burns Down in Abacos

A 37 meter super yacht titled m/y Chanson had a fire while berthed at Bakers Bay Marina in the Abacos on the evening of eight March.  Unfortunately a voluntary fire fighter named Steve Jenkins who had grievous injuries when falling from the truck during this yacht fire, and was air-lifted to Nassau for treatment did not make it and later lost his life.  No other injuries are reported to crew, and other personnel, although it is not known if there was anyone onboard at the time of the fire.  The yacht's tender a center console of about forty foot was also lost and destroyed in the fire.  After the fire got extinguished the 37 meter super yacht partly sank, heavily listing to its port side and its stern fully submersed in the water.  Unconfirmed news are reporting the fire started from a Lithium Ion battery from one of the water toys.  So far there is little information about this fire, with the news broken first on social media and then on the Yachtforums website. 
M/y Chanson is a Delta Marine 124 from 1998, powered by twin Detroit engines for speeds up to seventeen knots, with accommodation for eight guests in four suites, and six crew in three cabins.  Produced from 1997 to 2003 in six units the Delta Marine 124  came out as an evolution of the 122 model which was launched some months earlier in 1997 and delivered in two units. Chanson was last sold in 2017, when it had an asking price of 4,500,000 US$.

23 Meter Motor Yacht Goes Ablaze Off Virginia Beach

A 23 meter motor yacht titled m/y Savage with three persons onboard went ablaze while cruising just over two nautical miles off Cape Henry, Virginia Beach, southeastern Virginia on the early 03:30 hours of Friday eight March.  The crew called a Mayday and after putting the safety jackets jumped in the water, and were ten minutes later saved by a pilot boat.  After this Virginia Beach Fire Department with assistance by the area coast guard towed and fire fought the yacht to Fort Story, where the yacht was still smoking when it arrived in the early hours of the morning.  The cause of the fire are not reported.
At this time we cannot figure and have no information on the build and make of m/y Savage, what appears to be a cockpit motor yacht from around the eighties.

Classic Motor Yacht Sinks in Ostia Italy

A twenty meter motor yacht with one person onboard sank just about one nautical mile in front of the Plinius Beach Club on the Duillio water front, in Ostia the beach city of Rome Italy, on the morning of seventh March.  The motor yacht with its 65 year old captain had just left the Tiber river direction fifty nautical miles South to San Felice Circeo, when just at the start of its trip it started to take in water from a hull breach, reportedly into its engine room.  The captain called for help and was assisted, saved and taken to shore by CP381 of the Guardia Costiera of Rome, with the yacht later sinking in nine meters of water.  No pollution occurred from the sinking, with a salvage of the yacht being organized.
The motor yacht in this sinking is a Sanlorenzo 20 as produced from 1984 to 87.  Wooden build and designed by Della Rolle the Sanlorenzo 20 came out as a replacement to the 19 model and was replaced with the fiberglass build 70 in 1989.

Viking Sportfish Yacht Ends Aground in Jupiter Inlet

A nineteen meter Viking sportfish yacht titled m/y Big Blue ended aground on a shoal on Jupiter Inlet, Florida on the morning of Wednesday fifth March.  TowboatU.S. assisted the Viking sportfish out of the shoal and then towed her to a nearby marina.   A video of the assistance and towing was posted on the Jupiter Inlet Boats YouTube Channel.  According to some local this shoal has only recently formed, and when this happens these are usually marked, but unfortunately for the Viking yacht not this time.
M/y Big Blue is a Viking 64 Convertible from 2006.  The Viking 64 was offered in three or four double cabins layout and powered by twin 1800 or 2000hp for speeds up to the high thirties.  Produced from 2006 to 10 the 64 Convertible came out as replacement to the 65, and was replaced by the 66 Convertible, with a second generation 64 Convertible coming out in 2021.

Wicked Tuna Captain Dies in Boating Accident

Captain Charlie Griffin of the Wicked Tuna TV series fame died during a delivery of a ten meter sportfish boat titled J&E's Goodrun, which went missing on the evening of Sunday third March.  Another 35 year old person who was crew onboard is also missing, while Griff's dog was also found dead.  The Express Sportfish departed Virginia Beach direction to Pirate's Cove Marina in Manteo for repairs.  At 23:35 hours the Coast Guard received the call for two missing boaters, with the boat found two nautical miles South of Oregon Inlet on the morning of March fourth, beached and with it's tower detached and lying in-front of the boat.  The causes of the accident are not reported, with the sea being moderate rough with up to two meter wave height, and winds blowing Force Four Beaufort on that Sunday.  The missing 35 year old Chad Dunn was not found, after the Coast Guard dropped out its search operation after 41 hours, and four hundred miles of area investigated.
Charlie Griffin appeared from Season Two to Five of Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks, becoming a fan favorite as he captained the Reels of Fortune, and winning Season Four of the famous TV show.
J&E's Goodrun the sportfish express in this accident is a Scopinich 35 Express, from 2000.  Build of fiberglass the Scopinich 35 Express is designed by Joe Scopinich, debuting in 1997 it offers accommodation for two, and powered by twin 355hp Cat engines reaches top speeds of 35 knots.  Still produced today the 35 Express is Scopinich only made model with Paul Scopinich debuting in 1983 as a fighting chair producer and then as custom boat accessory manufacturer, what is still his main business today.

Three Yachts One Boat Destroyed by Fire in San Felice Circeo

Three yachts; two motor yachts of twenty and nineteen meters, a sport yacht of 23 meters, and a classic sport cruiser of seven meters burned down in San Felice Circeo, to the North of Latina, Italy, with the fire starting at about 20:00 hours of Saturday tenth February.  The fire started on the twenty meter flybridge yacht, which then jumped to the yacht of nineteen meters to its starboard side.  After this and with the wind blowing at over twenty knots from the West the first burning yacht freed itself and ended on the Eastern breakwater berths, taking its fire to a 23 meter sport yacht, and a classic sport cruiser of seven meters in length.  Vigili dell'Fuoco fire fighters, Guardia Costiera, and Carabinieri rushed to the scene, with the fire being controlled at 22:30 hours, and the securing cleaning up of the area taking up till the morning of Sunday eleventh February.  The causes of the fire are under investigation, with the report saying that it could be a short circuit or an ignited one. 
The yachts and boats in this fire are a Posillipo Technema 65 as produced from 2002 to 12 the yacht which started the fire.  The second is a Cantieri Liguri Ghibli 19, the second yacht which started burning located to starboard of the first yacht.  The third yacht is a Arno Leopard 23 Sport as produced from 1997 to 2003.  While the small sport cruiser boat is a wooden build Italcraft Sarima 7 m as produced from 1965 to 77 in 256 units.

Fire Destroys Four Yachts in Antalya Yacht Yard

A big fire which started just after 1900 hours of Saturday tenth February in the Antalya free zone has burned down two yachts, and destroyed two other currently under construction.  Antalya fire fighting squads responded to the fire with fifteen vehicles, with cooling efforts still ongoing up till 21:00 local time.  The fire started in-front of U4 Marine and Interiors, which according to Google-Maps would mean that this is the Gree-Naval Yachts and or the Naval Yachts to it's right.  No one was injured in the fire, with a thirty meter super yacht which was stored in the shed during the fire reported a total loss.
As of this time we have no information what the yachts involved in this fire are, including the two under-construction which burned down.  If someone has any information what the yachts are feel free to get in touch with PowerYacht.
