Projects: Menorquin E56 Hardtop, Menorquin E56 Flybridge

After presenting the project of Menorquin's E43 model, the Spanish island boat builder showcases the larger E56 project of its new enviromently friendly range which is set to launch next year 2012.  The Efficient Line from Menorquin is the answer to more green Eco boating, and if the E43 showed this, the E56 displays it even more with hybrid power also being one of the optional power choices.  Apart having new underwater shapes set to deliver better speeds with less power both the Efficient Line models will aim for superior RINA Green Star environment certification. As the E43, the E56 is available in Hardtop and Flybridge versions and is to be powered by pods.  But different to the smaller soon to launch E43 model is that it will use the aft looking dual propeller ZF instead of the Volvo IPS. Huge spaces are to be found in all areas of the E56 and the theme continues as shown outside of a modern classic style.  Impressive is the large aft deck with two settees to a two interior choice of three double cabins, and a crew. The major difference in the choice is that on the optional version the galley moves down, reserving the main saloon for lounging activities, and for this you loose a third guest head. The above picture version is the hardtop which offers more streamlined sport lines, but loosing the second helm and the additional space a fly deck gives.
The E56 Flybridge adds a fly deck second helm in replacement to the hardtop.  I suppose the E56 Flybridge will be more popular then the Hardtop model. Being very extended and add spacious, the flybridge deck presents an extra area of relaxation featuring a helm to port side, C-shape settee with table to starboard, and a wet bar behind this.  The flybridge of the E56 on these plans seems to be about double the size to that of the current in production largest Menorquin C180.  Menorquin has decided to leave the aft fly deck area free, which can be a space to fill with chaise loungers or where to put an extra tender or PWC.  Power for the Menorquin E56 Flybridge is for engines up to twin 480hp which should give a cruise speeds of up to 15 knots.

Web: Menorquin New Web Site

Famous traditional yacht and cruiser builder Menorquin presents its new virtual World wide web showroom.  Menorquin was founded in 1978 on the Spanish Balearic island of Menorca, a place where the company is at today still located.  Its first model launched at the same year was the Menorquin Llauts, which are based on traditional Spanish and Balearic island fishing boats lines, but with the comfort for leisure and that of a cruiser added within.  A line that of the Llauts the company still is inspired in all its models accept for the sport cruiser 100 GT Largo. Time passes by and in 1997 Menorquin takes a huge step forward by launching the first of the Yacht line model.  In 2000 sales increase require Menorquin to add space to its building facility adding 20,000 squared meters, totaling 30,000 square meters of working area.  Three years later Menorquin makes another important step towards quality, by obtaining the ISO9000:2001 certification by Lloyd's for all the models built.  2008 is an important year for Menorquin not only because the Menorcan boat builder doubles its presence on the international markets; but because the company increases two more range of models, the flagship Custom Yacht, and the Largo sport cruiser series.  A year later to this Menorquin also adds more to its brand apart building yachts; from Charter, Services, and a Brokerage department. In the same year 2009 Menorquin also presents its new Slow Yachting way program showing a promotion on the concept and how to use the cruisers and yachts. Projects: Menorquin MY E43 Flybridge, Menorquin MY E43 Hardtop

Menorquin presents its new Efficient Line, which will start with the project of the MY E43 Flybridge.  This new Menorquin line of projects will be added with a 56 feet model later on, and takes inspiration from other models of the Menorcan Spanish island builder but will feature a more modern exterior, and innovative concepts.  Main technical novelty for Menorquin Efficient 43 is the use of Volvo IPS forward looking pods. Other new concepts are dual cockpit access, larger aft deck, a bow living area with settee, larger to usual master cabin, sea view windows, more natural light interior thanks to larger glassed surfaces in the cabins, and higher to the usual fuel capacity for the E43 being of 1300 liters.  Accommodation is a three double cabin lower deck, with an optional choice of larger owners suite with office, or a no office smaller shower guest heads and a galley bellow.  The main deck offers a C-shaped settee, L-shaped galley and helm station.  The E43 Flybridge will offer a helm station and C-shaped settee.  Power choice will be twin Volvo engines of 330hp.
The Menorquin MY E43 Hardtop will differentiate from the flybridge version for loosing the second helm station and lounging area up top, and change with a more low profiled sporty line.  For the rest this second model of the Efficient line will offer the same characteristics two choices for the six berth three cabin lower deck, and pod drives with engines up to twin 330hp power.

The effort Menorquin has invested in the optimization of the manufacturing processes is what has enabled them to offer this opportunity to start enjoying Slow Yachting with the entry level of its Yachts range. This is a model which maintains the quality exclusive to the brand, which we see reflected both in the materials and the care taken in the handcrafted finishes. The MY 100 called as Basic version takes noting from the new 2011 edition which offers a redefined interior offering six berths with two of these being fixed and the other four convertible, and has a maximum capacity for up to ten people on board. Its length of over ten metres takes full advantage of to achieve extraordinary habitability for this size of traditional cruiser. To achieve this, the galley and the dinette have been transferred to the wheelhouse, to form a shared space. The doors which provide access to the cabin open out completely to give way to the cockpit and fully connect the two areas. The lower deck is accessed via convenient stairs which lead in to a spacious central area, around which have been located: a separate washroom preceded by a handy wardrobe; a sofa which is convertible to a double bed port side; and the master cabin in the bow with a double bed, wardrobes and reading lights. As stated the MY 100 2011 edition new model write up a few weeks back got also renovated in the exterior design, renovated in keeping with the trend Menorquin is following, which gives expression to a more stylized hardtop shape. The attractive new features of the MY 100 2011 Basic version together with the Menorquin values and its attractive price, make it a very good option for Slow Yachting enthusiasts.

Improve-it = Menorquin MY120

Menorquin presents an improved MY120 in a new 2011 version. Just as the recently improved MY160 presented in Cannes, Menorquin has made attractive renovations to the interior design, incorporating a new line of furnishings but maintaining the classic aesthetics which distinguishes the Menorcan Traditional Cruiser, emblem of the Slow Yachting philosophy. The exterior of the MY 120, 2011 edition, presents a new hardtop design too with very clean lines which provide a more stylized and harmonious overall shape. Another new feature is the single piece lateral windows with improved closing mechanisms which was presented first for the 2011 model year MY160 presented a couple weeks ago. SLOW YACHTING MOMENTS
With the aim of familiarizing people with the Slow Yachting philosophy the shipyard has produced a series of audiovisual accounts of the Club Menorquin sailor’s personal experiences, some of which can already be seen online. How do the Club Menorquin sailors feel when they are living out their passion for the sea on board their Menorquin vessels? This was the question that has fuelled the Menorquin team to develop this initiative, Slow Yachting Moments, with the purpose of familiarizing people with the sailing philosophy of these boats. Because who better than the sailors of the boats themselves to transmit through their own personal experiences what Slow Yachting is all about? The format consists of a recorded interview with the Club Menorquin yacht owner, characterized with image capsules depicting some of this sailor’s Slow Yachting Moments. “Arrival time”,“Siesta time” and “Walk time” are some of the titles which make up the different audiovisual pieces of the first Slow Yachting Moments. The videos are being made of Menorquin customers from various different countries where the shipyard has a presence.

SLOW YACHTING MOMENTS FROM LLEVANT D’ES GRAU
Llevant d’Es Grau is the name Ramón Galopa, a businessman from Barcelona and Club Menorquin sailor, chose for his Menorquin Yacht 100 Open, the same name as the village where he retires to enjoy his free time and sail whenever his agenda allows it. He is to be the first Slow Yachting Moments protagonist. Ramón Galopa has visited the coast of Menorca, whose beauty he praises highly, since he was fifteen. Since then he has maintained a strong link with this peaceful island which he now visits every month. This Club Menorquin sailor used to own a speed boat before acquiring his MY 100 Open and becoming a Menorquin sailor, over the years he decided to start enjoying the sea at his own pace in the Slow Yachting style. In his video, Galopa admits he is very confident in his boat because the Llevant d’Es Grau’s performance is secure and safe in any sea conditions. Sailing on board his Menorquin is precisely what breaks the pace of the whole week, or the pace of the whole year. These escapes are like a spa, they fill you with happiness comments Ramón Galopa. Slow Yachting Moments is also a Menorquin project with which the shipyard wishes to pay tribute to the loyalty of its customers, and transmit how much the company values the hard work and dedication invested in strengthening day by day the relationship with them.

PALMA BOAT SHOW
From the 24th of April until the 2nd of May all the professionals and amateurs visiting the Palma International Boat Show have an inevitable appointment with Menorquin’s boats. The shipyard’s team will be available to attend visitors during the whole week of the show, which has become one of the most important national Boat Shows. Because of its special link with the Balearic’s nautical culture, Menorquin are inspired by the emblematic Llaüts and the shipyard’s headquarters are located in Menorca, a full support to the Palma Boat Show is given. Menorquin has opted to transfer three models from its cruising yachts range to the Palma Show: the MY 145, MY 120, and MY 100 all true icons of the Slowyachting sailing philosophy. As well as exhibiting these three models, Menorquin will be providing information to those interested in other Yacht models, or details about boats from any of their other three product ranges: Lläuts, Custom Yachts and Largo. The shipyard’s complete range of services will also be on display at the Palma Boat Show: Menorquin Charter; Menorquin Brokerage; Menorquin Share; and Menorquin Services, which this year has broadened the range of services it provides. In addition to the reparation, restoration and maintenance services, it now also offers services for the installation of equipment, supply of spare parts and accessories, moorings, logistics, insurance, and administration.

NEXT DESTINATION CROATIA & MOSCOW
Menorquin commences April with an intense burst of activity in its Boat Show programme. In the International sphere and almost in parallel, the Spanish shipyard will be participating at the 12th Croatia Boat Show, which takes place from the 10th to the 18th of April; and at the 18th Moscow International Boat & Yacht Show, from the 15th to the 18th of the same month. Menorquin will be represented in Split, the Croatian city which hosts the first of these Boat Shows by its distributor for the Adriatic, Brik Nautika. Menorquin will exhibit one of its longest models from its cruising yachts range, Menorquin Yachts 160. An offshore traditional yacht with all the features of larger vessels which the Shipyard combines to perfection with its own particular classic style. Menorquin is conscious that the Croatia boat show has become an important platform for the recreational sailing business and a reference point for enthusiasts who sail mainly in the Adriatic Sea. The characteristics of this central European coastline bear a great resemblance to those of our Mediterranean coast, a factor which is in tune with the classic style of the Menorquin boats and a propensity for peaceful sailing which identify the Shipyard: sailing at your own pace, enjoying sea life to the full, or in one word Slowyachting. Menorquin will also participate at the Moscow International Boat & Yacht Show to attend customers from the Russian market and promote boats through its distributor for this area, Concept Marine. The nautical market in Russia has experienced spectacular growth in the last five years, the number of imported boats increased considerably in 2009 and the number of Russian luxury yacht buyers has also risen, according to the Boat Show’s organizing body. With these market figures Russia stands out amongst the emerging countries where the development of the recreational sailing industry presents magnificent prospects for the future. Therefore Menorquin has included this destination in its programme of International Boat Shows for this season.

Boat Review: Menorquin MY 145 Fly

Presentation
Launched in 2007 the Menorquin Yacht 145 continues up market thinking by the Spanish Menorca Island boat builder. This made the MY145 not only important for being a new model in its presentation at the Palma Show of Spring 2007, but more so because it introduced vacuum infusion in the building method, and the use of an outside designer with Tommaso Spadolini taking the job for the exterior looks. This last idea of out sourcing the design got so much praise in the MY145 that Menorquin have also used a separate independent designer for the newly planned 20 and 24 metres flagships, using the hands of other famous Italian architect Fulvio De Simoni for the upcoming Custom Yacht range. The MY145 is one of the recent additions to the Menorquin line, but the yard listening to customers demands put a new additional three cabins five berths version in early 2009. As many Menorquin's the MY145 is also offered in different versions for what regard the outside. A Fly as for the review here, or the standard Hardtop.
Accommodation
Interiors have always been the bread and butter of the Menorquin yachts, offering livable layouts with good spaces and classic wood filled finishes. But lets start with the outside of the MY145 welcoming you aft with an extended integrated bathing platform which comes out stylishly from the lower part of the traditional canoe stern. A small moulded door to starboard welcomes you to the aft deck. This space is available as both free or with an optional two person bench settee to port. On both sides and up one step you go to the integrated and safe side deck, which takes you to the bow, where you find a very nice forward looking four person bench sofa. From the aft main deck is the the ladder which takes you to the flybridge. The fly has a C-shaped settee to port, helm station to starboard, and optional hydraulic crane to aft which creates stowage space for a medium sized tender. The crane and extended bathing platform makes it possible to carry two tenders.
Back to aft and moving forward a three part patio door welcomes you inside the interior living deck. To port here is an L-shaped settee which can transform to a double berth, making total sleeping capacity plus two for a total six or seven berths. To starboard is a small furniture unit opposite the dinette, and the fully equipped internal helm station.
From the middle of the main deck and down four steps you reach the lower accommodation deck. This part of the MY145 is available in two layouts. The standard is a two cabin, two shower heads, C-shaped galley, and a small L-shaped settee. Optional is a three cabin version. This gives a single cabin in lieu of the small settee below and also takes part of the galley. Cabin planning is rather standard as a traditional cruiser should be. But that does not mean that is not comfortable. The owners suite is located to fore, double cabin midship port side with two single berths. and a guest shower head. The third cabin option gets its location to starboard side in front of the galley, and is a single berth.
Performance

Having a traditional fully keeled semi displacement hull, the Menorquin MY145 Fly gives a respectable medium speed cruise. The full keel pays a price in performance due to drag, but then it gives back in better direction control, which added with the full hull measuring only seventeen centimetres to the overall length gives also superior stability. These two factors, keel and full under the water hull give also minimum rolling with a natural progressive movement during cruise or anchor. The MY145 is offered with four engine choices starting with the standard twin Volvo D4 300hp, to the other optional choices from the D6 330hp, most high revving Yanmar 310hp, and the Cummins 330hp which revs the less. With twin Volvo D6 330hp the MY145 Fly reaches top speeds of 18 knots at the max 3500 rpm. Optimum cruising was at 2800 rpm with speeds of 14 knots, range of 245 nautical miles, and consumption of 5.2 litres per mile. If you want to enjoy more the trip you can also cruise at a slower 8 knots with the Volvo's 330hp only revving at 1600 rpm, giving a long range of eighty hours or 645 nautical miles.
Positive
Good economy speed
Full deck use
Accommodation
Negative
Low flybridge safety walls
Competition
Surprisingly the Menorquin MY145 Fly is the real wild card for staying closer to its roots. In fact the MY145 unlike other traditional looking boats stays true to its ancestors hull shape, and is unique for having medium range explorer qualities in its DNA. If you want a semi displacement hull the closer you can get is with a live aboard explorer like the Grand Banks 41 Heritage EU, or the Rhea 43. Competition criteria was for flybridge, thirteen to fourteen metres size, two or three cabins, twin engines, and 15 knots plus of speed.
Beneteau 42 Swift Trawler - explorer trawler, 2 cabins heads, 26 knots max
Grand Banks 41 Heritage EU - 2 cabins 1 head, explorer with classic trawler looks
Hinckley 44 Talaria FB - lobster design, available in single cabin lower salon
Mainship 45 Trawler - explorer two cabins, large main deck
Patrone 42 Convertible Flybridge - planning gozzo, three cabins, main deck galley
Rhea 43 - smallest, explorer trawler, two cabin heads
Sciallino 40 Fly - planning Ligurian gozzo, two or three cabin choice
WILD CARD: Portofino 47 Fly - three cabins, cross over modern traditional
Conclusion
Slow Yachting is the new Menorquin campaign presented in the fall of 2009 in November during the Barcelona Boat Show. This campaign gives reasons why one should choose a Menorquin boat. Most important are that of stable navigation, relax sailing, easy manoeuvrability, max safety, fuel economy, and enjoyment of the boat during cruise. Obviously the MY145 Fly has all these features and more, being one of its latest designs. Its lower deck for example is spacious and the three cabin plan gives also better flexibility for those who cruise as a large family. You also get an exterior and living main deck where safe enjoyment is a total experience, thanks to safe bulwarks, and the settee to fore. The Menorquin MY145 Fly should be a first look if you want a traditional looking cruiser echoing the past with a canoe style stern, good comfortable spaces, and slow to medium economical cruising speeds.

Project: Menorquin MCY 200 Custom Yacht

Traditional looks with great habitability, harmonious distribution of the interior space, outstanding comfort and versatility are all features which define the MCY 200, new project from Spanish yacht builder Menorquin. The MCY 200 Custom Yacht is developed in collaboration with the prestigious designer Fulvio de Simoni. A 21 metre traditional yacht from the new Menorquin Custom Yachts range. The other vessel in this range which is still in project stages is the Menorquin MCY 240 Custom Yacht. Now the Menorca boat builder further completes its range with the 200. Both the MCY 240 and the MCY 200 are manufactured to order only, this provides the customer the opportunity of participating in the configuration of the interior, choosing the materials and achieves a yacht which is in total harmony with their personal tastes. Very habitable in there dimensions the MCY 200 uses its 21 metres overall length to present a configuration which enhances its habitability. Furthermore the beam of over six metres is fully usable thanks to the semi displacement hull shape which is a characteristic of Menorquin vessels. A notable example are the lateral folding balconies which accentuate the spaciousness of the upper deck. This super yacht has three levels the main deck, the lower and the flybridge; within these it offers three distinct living areas; two on the main deck, which are saloon and cockpit living and a third on the flybridge. It is also possible to install side doors to the saloon and it offers the convenience of two pilot stations one inside and the other on the flybridge, and two solarium's located at the bow and on the flybridge. The interior of the MCY 200 is made to measure, the options for the interior layout are as exclusive as the individual tastes of each customer. For example in a model designed to have 3 cabins, these may all be located in the lower deck together with the galley, whilst in a version with 4 cabins the galley could be transferred to the main deck. Whatever the final layout of the interior there will always be outstanding comfort and a fantastic sense of space both in the master cabin and the VIP cabin, which are as wide as the boat’s beam. The guest cabins are also totally independent and equally comfortable with en suite washrooms. A further satisfying design detail is the crew cabin which in this yacht has been located aft in the lower deck, and accommodates two people in total independence with its there own washroom. In addition to all this attributes of a MCY 200 are those aspects which contribute to its magnificent performance; such as the advantage of a low fuel consumption whilst maintaining a cruising speed of between 15 and 17 knots. Designer Fulvio de Simoni who co-designed both the 200 and 240 models which stand at the top of Menorquin's range has ensured the unmistakable style of the vessels is maintained. He has found a way of combining to perfection the traditional character and elegance that define this company with the most innovative techniques that are applied during the manufacture of these recreational vessels.

Improve-it = Menorquin MY 180

Menorquin shipyard continues to expand, offering new products and services to meet market demands and also in designing strategies to provide solutions to different sectors of the business. It is along these lines and in direct response to the needs of this particular sector of the charter market that Menorquin is launching a new option for the MY 180. The charter version of the current flagship from Menorquin will be manufactured to order only and presents some very attractive innovations which will exceed all possible expectations of those looking for the latest in an 18 metre charter boat thanks to an unbeatable deck design, a tremendous feeling of space and superb comfort. The new version of the Menorquin Yacht 180 for charter has unbeatable living spaces which are in part due to the wheelhouse pilot station having been dispensed with. This means there is now a single central pilot station on the flybridge, which simultaneously provides additional space on the upper deck and may also be used for adding extra equipment. The wheelhouse has been equipped with a double sofa and dining table to seat up to 8 people and is ideal for entertaining on board. The cockpit provides exterior seating around a semicircular sofa and table, all designed and finished with elegant teak finishes. The generous sundeck can be reached along the spacious side decks and has an awning to provide protection from the sun. The lower deck of the new Menorquin MY 180 charter version houses four fabulous passenger cabins. These four cabins are supremely welcoming; all offering en suite head facilities. Two of the cabins offer single beds whilst the other two have doubles. There is also the independent crew cabin to fore towards the bow, with capacity for two people, a washroom and is accessed from the main deck. Another detail which has been incorporated in this new model is the addition of a compact living space with a table and chairs off the galley, located on the lower deck for the crew members, with the aim of making their work on board comfortable. Add to these innovations the most representative qualities of the Menorquin Yacht 180, such as the classic design fused with modern engineering and the economic to run semi displacement hull form a timeless, functional and stunning yacht.

Improve-it = Menorquin MY 145

Menorquin launches a new option for the interior layout of the MY 145; further expanding the shipyard’s entry into the 14 metre sector. An increased accommodation capacity by means of a third cabin, is the distinguishing feature of this variant of the Menorquin MY 145, which was first presented to the market in April 2007. This 14 metre family boat can now be chosen to accommodate one more person. To integrate the third cabin the Spanish builder made a redistribution of the interior space which emphasizes the MY 145’s vocation as a family cruiser, outstanding for its elegance and the endurance of its classic lines. The result is a spacious cruiser which is truly comfortable with the added bonus of a further cabin. To achieve this the dinette has been transferred to the upper deck, this allowing for a sleeping capacity of 7 people: 5 fixed berths and 2 convertible berths, whilst in the standard model the sleeping capacity is 6 people: 4 fixed and 2 convertible. Keeping the qualities Menorquin are renowned for, this new layout option for the MY 145 is also available to both the Hardtop and Flybridge versions. www.menorquin.com
