New Model: Freedom Boatworks 56 Sportfisherman

Freedom Boatworks has launched the much expected 56 Sportfisherman. This is Freedom second built following the launching of the 77 we presented here a few weeks back, which was completed earlier on this year. The 56 Sportfisherman is built as the 77 in cold molding technique with a male jig system. Power takes a bit innovation on the just launched 56 thanks to the use of triple Volvo IPS900 700hp engines. This set up gave a top speed of 42 knots in the first sea trials, with full equipment, twenty persons on board, and half fuel tanks. Economy cruise speed was 30 knots with consumption at only 190 litres per hours at this speed. Freedom declared that she was also a bit under propped so may be they accept something more of peak speeds. Thanks to the IPS engines the 56 Sportfisherman also manages the space of much bigger Sportfish Yachts with the lower deck offering four double cabins, and three heads. The owners cabin is also a much sought full beam mid ship cabin standing to the length of the yacht, which to my knowledge is a unique feat so far on a custom cold molded seventeen metre sportfish. As the 77 the 56 Sportfisherman was built by renowned builder Jim Polatty who with it completed his nineteenth construction. As the 77 design was done by Applied Concepts of Florida.

New Model: Freedom Boatworks 77

Freedom Boatworks 77 is the first model to come out of this new North Carolina shipyard founded in 2008. Designed by Applied Concepts, the 77 was supervised by Jim Polatty ex Sculley boat builder, and was built for Freedom Boatworks owner. Building a seventy seven feet as its first model, Freedom Boatworks compared to other custom sportfish builders who normally start building a fifteen metre yacht did start big. The 77 is powered with twin CAT C-32A 1825hp, cruising at 30 knots fully loaded with only 1950 rpm and burning 408 lph, and giving a max of 37. The interior accommodation layout has a total five cabins with a full-beam master, VIP with a walk around queen, and another guest cabin with twin lower bunks. Each cabin has a private en-suite head. There is also two cabins for the crew one for the captain with a queen berth, and a double bunk for the crew. The captain and crew share a head. The 77 also features a day head just inside the salon from the mezzanine. The much appreciated mezzanine has seating for six, with an expandable dining table. Underneath the mezzanine one finds a large freezer, refrigerated bait box, refrigerated drink box, large ice dump, and ample storage. There is also a large refrigerated kill box in the transom that can alternatively be used as a livewell. There are two additional in-deck refrigerated fish boxes. The flybridge has a center console with 3 helm seats and 2 jumpseats. Additionally, it has a u-shaped settee, and another bench seating for sixteen person. The flybridge is fully equipped with air conditioning, refrigerator, freezer, lots of storage and great visibility. The interior decor for the 77 was designed by Dawn Moffitt, a renowned name working mostly on megayachts. Finishes include cherry with custom eucalyptus, maple inlays, granite tops in the galley and salon, onyx tops in the heads and staterooms, onyx flooring in the guest heads, glass tile with abolone shell inlays for the master head floor. The galley features two subzero refrigerator drawers, 2 freezer drawers, Meile cooktop, oven, and dishwasher. It's dinette seats seven for dinner. A separate wetbar has ample liquor storage, icemaker, and 2 additional refrigerator drawers. What's unique for the Freedom Boatworks 77 which is built in the custom cold molding method will sure be her agility and fuel economy. This compares to running costs associated with a production sixty four footer, and handling associated to a much smaller boat thanks to the unique hull form and weight per strength the cold moulding building method gives. LOA - 23.4 m (77ft)
Beam - 6.70 m
Draft - 1.72 m
Displacement - 49.895 kg
Fuel Capacity - 10031 l

Accommodation - 10 berths in 5 stateroom, 4 heads + 1 day head

Project: Freedom Boatworks 56 Sportfisherman

For those who think US custom Sportfish builders innovation is just in the cold mold building method just make a rethink of this. In fact North Carolina's Freedom Boatworks presents this very interesting 56 Sportfisherman project set to launch the coming Summer and already in advanced building stages. The 56 Sportfisherman will in fact be the first Custom Sportfish Yacht with flybridge to be equipped with triple Volvo pods latest generation second series IPS900 700hp each. The other novelty for this Sportfish Yacht will be its spacious interior offering a four cabin three head layout, and in all this giving the owner a full beam mid ship cabin, and a fore VIP cabin for his special guests. This is a very interesting new build, and as Freedom Boatworks put it here we have a 56 foot Sportfish yacht which gives 20 metres in space, and the efficiency of a 45 footer. Performance estimates are an impressive 40 knots plus of top speed with cruising in the mid thirties.
