Fratelli Aprea New Web Site

Fratelli Aprea presents its new website. Fratelli Aprea was founded in 1890 by master ship wright Cataldo, in the gulf of Sorrento.  Fratelli Aprea focus for a century has been that of building custom to order and repairing wooden traditional Gozzo small and medium size fishing boats.  An important turn around for Fratelli Aprea comes during World War II, when Franco Aprea decides to put used Jeep gasoline engines in a Gozzo, following the commissioning of boats by the US Army for a special mission. Fratelli Aprea enters fiberglass boat production in the nineties, with a key difference to the competition who build similar boats for using a semi-planning hull with a deep V-section forward, rather then a planning shape.  Today Frattelli Aprea offers eleven models of the Sorrento line which start from the pure gozzo looking 7,80 Tradizionale / Open and go up to the Sorrento 50 Cabinato.  In 2023 Fratelli Aprea also debuted its new Brunello Acampora designed Lancia centre console with traditional line series, which debuted with the 52 model, and is planned to feature four other models from ten to 22 meters in size.  Fratelli Aprea new web site is available in Italian and English language and takes you around with the following buttons; Home, Company, Gozzo Sorrentino, Design, Models, Charter, Service, Usato, and Contacts. Fratelli Aprea is also on social media with a button at the right bottom of the page taking you to its Facebook, and Instagram pages.

New Model: Lancia Aprea 52

Lancia Aprea a new line of Fratelli Aprea debuts its first 52 model, a beautiful traditional yacht inspired to the past with centre console features which bring it to the present and take the Sorrento builder into future.  A project of Brunello Acampora, who took care of both design and naval architecture, the Lancia 52 received the compliments in each boat show, from its debut at Cannes Yachting Festival, to Genoa and Monaco yacht show that it was one, if not the most beautiful boat in these shows.  The Lancia Aprea 52 is also a versatile yacht, offered in four lower deck layouts; six berths in three cabins and two heads with no lower saloon/ galley, two cabins two heads with L-shaped dinette in between the cabins, two cabin with three berths midships cabin plus saloon and galley, and forward U-shaped saloon and two twin berths cabins at midships.  The Aprea Lancia 52 is also offered in three distinctive engine propulsion choices with Man 800hp with line shafts, Volvo 600hp IPS pods drives, and quadruple Mercury 600hp outboards for fifty knots performance.  Lancia Aprea 52 hull one featured a three cabins sleep only lower deck layout, and twin Man 800hp on shaft drives, with hull #two set to be a quadruple outboard version for the USA market set to launch in 2024.  Lancia Aprea is a new departure for the Aprea Brothers, which with this 52 celebrate the beginning of a new line which is planned to feature four other models which start from 32 and go up to 72 feet.  Next incoming is set to be the 62, which is then to be followed by the 42 model.

Project: Fratelli Aprea Lancia 52

Fratelli Aprea present the project for the Lancia 52, a walk around Gozzo inspired yacht of sixteen meters in length, with design coming from Brunello Acampora's Victory design. The Lancia 52 follows what other traditional gozzo builders have pioneered in recent years, most notably Apreamare and Mimi, for a walk around centre console traditional yacht suited for day cruisers with bow to stern exterior spaces.  Brunello Acampora design was a pioneer in this style when he designed the 11m Gozzo for Apreamare in 2017, although the next versions of the models by Marco Casali proved more a point where the design should go. Previous to this model Fratelli Aprea was the most traditional of the production gozzo builders, with current builds of seven to fifteen meters having an abundant flair which can compete with that of Eastern Carolina sportfish custom builders.  From the renderings visible so far the flair on the Lancia 52 seems less dramatic.  The Lancia Aprea 52 will feature three propulsion choices from traditional line shafts, Volvo IPS pod drives, and quadruple Mercury 600hp outboards with this last option showing the Italian Sorrento builder also looking at the expansive North American market.

Cataldo Aprea 1949 - 2021

On Friday January 15, Cataldo Aprea of the boat builder Fratelli Aprea from Sorrento left for the better World.  Aged 71 years, Cataldo Aprea was a family born shipwright and is another of the nautical industry pillars to succumb to the Covid-19 virus.  The news of Cataldo's death was announced on the Fratelli Aprea Facebook page on Friday January 15 at 1200 hours.  Cataldo was the elder brother of six Aprea's; Giovanni, Gaetano, Antonio, Anna, and Lucia, representing the fourth generation of a boat building family which was founded in 1890.  Cataldo managed and run the Fratelli Aprea shipyard from Sorrento with his brothers which builds traditional Sorrento Gozzo from seven to fifteen meters in size.
