New Model: Back Cove 372

After selling over two hundred units in an eleven year production, Back Cove decided that it was time to update the 37 model with some important changes, enters the new 372 launched in 2021.  These changes are mostly technical, with little to make of the two models outside.  Still since designation was change I would have made something differentiating the two models, like offering new windows in order to distinct the 372 from the previous 37.  The changes made are an update to the electrical system, window liner, new opening for the side windows, reconfigured shower-head, and helm station redesign.  The Back Cove 372 now also comes standard powered with Cummins 600hp and or Volvo with the same output.  Hull one of the Back Cove 372 was powered by Volvo 600hp and reached top speeds of thirty knots.

Project: Back Cove 372

Introducing the updated Back Cove 372.  The Back Cove 37 was launched in 2009 and has enjoyed an eleven-plus-year uninterrupted run resulting in more than two hundred hulls. When the production moulds for the Back Cove 37 finally gave out in 2020 due to boatbuilding wear-and-tear, the design team seized the opportunity to re-examine the 37 with over a decade of owner feedback and recent design advancements in mind. The result was a boat full of fresh details that earned its own designation, enter the newly redesigned Back Cove 372.  The Back Cove 372 is full of fresh details that are tailored to today’s cruising and boating lifestyles, yet it retains the classic character and heart of a proven winner. The highlights include: a more efficient 24V DC electrical system with less copper weight, resulting in both a lighter boat and increased run time on the bow and optional stern thrusters.  Cummins 600hp diesel engine as standard and a Volvo an option. This adjustment is the direct result of owner preference, with more than 95% of Back Cove 37 owners opting for a larger-than-standard engine since 2009.  Black windshield liner and an upholstered helm pod reduce dangerous and distracting glare at the helm. Further updates to the helm pod include new materials for better durability and stain resistance, increased space for navigation electronics.  Fixed-glazed pilothouse windows replace difficult-to-operate sliding windows, offer enhanced sightlines, and are complemented by a center-opening windshield with opening appliances for smoother operation.  A new aft-facing cockpit seat to starboard, complete with a folding armrest and drink holder, paired with a new salon door to port with a bi-fold window to starboard (above the aft-facing seat). A reconfigured head with expanded medicine cabinet, sizeable over-sink mirror, and redesigned shower stall.

Improve-it = Back Cove 37

The Back Cove design team is excited to announce several interior design updates to the 37 model. These design changes involve all interior and also a technical upgrade.  Master stateroom features new storage lockers on shelf, port and starboard with USB charging port on the forward end of the lockers, starboard cabinet with interior storage drawers, and a mattress upgrade to a density foam with perforated top foam layer for better ventilation. Guest Stateroom replaces hanging locker with side table, same surface as head and galley while the charging station has moved to above the side table. The head has a larger sink with two overhead dimmer lights and a second towel bar. The galley has the microwave moved to counter-top level for easier access, with the silverware drawer moved to the top drawer. Other changes are also a water-exhaust separator added to the generator to reduce water discharge noise, this previously being an option.

Back Cove has become synonymous in building traditional cruisers for the affordable and easily maintained conscious yachtsmen. Practical elegance speaks to the simplicity and serviceability of Back Cove's systems and to the gracious lines of the down east cruisers.  The Back Cove 32 is the latest model to be launched in a range that spans more than seven hundred hulls in fourteen years. New to the Back Cove range for 2017. the 32 is an amalgam of design ideas coming from discussions with current and potential owners, about the ways in which they use their boats.  The Back Cove 32 offers the same concepts that have built the success of the range. Extraordinary fuel efficiency from her single diesel engine, straight forward systems and rugged traditional good looks.  While her on-deck spaces are perfect for entertaining family and friends, her cozy and luxurious interior with the island double berth forward perfectly suiting the needs of a cruising couple. New Model: Back Cove 41

It's been something of a surprise when the 41 was announced considering that a criteria for all of Back Cove line of Traditional down East inspired cruisers is for a single engine installation. As it stands hull one was launched in early 2014 just in time for the Miami boat show. The 41 is a spacious cruiser with a two double cabins twin head lower deck, and a main deck which serves as both living and entertainment areas joined together. Galley is to port side, with a C-shaped double duty dinette settee opposite. To fore starboard is the helm station, which also features a side door giving direct access to the side deck. New Model: Back Cove 37 Downeast

Back Cove launches its new Downeast, a renewed 37 featuring a larger longer cockpit and a redesigned interior.  The Downeast is in fact a longer boat, boasting an overall length of four feet more to the standard 37 Back Cove.  It is for a short time being also the Back Cove flagship, that is till the Rockland builder launches its new upcoming 41.  This extended length of the Back Cove Downeast extends exterior deck space to aft.   Still while the length has been extended the 37 Downeast features a more day boat approach inside, with a single master cabin below, shower head, and galley inside.  Add to this the open cockpit deck, and with the 37 Downeast Backcove brings a lot of the real classic lobster in this traditional cruiser but with the thinking going for a luxury cruising boat for two persons.

Project: Back Cove 41

I never expected Back Cove to present a new flagship mostly because of its single engine ideals, but considering all why should not they do it.  The 37 has been a success, and now the Rockland builder goes on to show a new 41 feet flagship. On the layout arrangement plans the Back Cove 41 offers a fully enclosed main deck with an aft cockpit having two L-shaped settees.  Inside is a C-shaped dinette, with opposite galley and L-shape settee which will work well as a passenger lounge during trips or quiet area for reading at anchor.  Below is a two cabins twin heads arrangement with the owners suite to fore.  As with all the smaller Back Cove the 41 pays tribute to the down East designs with its single engine power, a predominant feature of most lobster boats from the past.  The 41 is to be powered by a Cummins 600hp engine with line shaft propulsion.

New Model: Back Cove 34

With the 34 Back Cove builds on upgrading the 33 model.  The new Back Cove 34 sits in the middle of its three model line up of traditional looking down East cruisers which from 30 to 37 feet.  Needless to say the hull lines are the same but Back Cove sought to improve in important areas as the cabin now having an island double berth in replacement to the convertible Vee shaped saloon, and new extended aft deck.  With the 34 Back Cove stays as all its past and current models to a single engine with a Cummins 480hp unit and shaft line propulsion.  Although I always think that with this they are loosing market share, but for hull design this makes a better sense.

Project: Back Cove 34

Back Cove present the project of the 34, which should launch by this Summer.  The Back Cove 34 is an update to the 33 model, with the major changes happening inside in the cabin.  Here in fact the new 34 will have a full double berth versus the Vee as found on the 33.  Other changes are also to be found outside with a redesign of the aft cockpit settee, which now becomes of L-shape versus the previous straight version.  The Back Cove 34 continues single engine power and should offer as the 33 the same wide variety of producers; Volvo, Yanmar, and Cummins with six total choices which start at 380 up 480hp.

New Model: Back Cove 30

Back Cove launched the awaited 30 at the start of this season, what is a replacement for the 2003 launched 29. With this new model Back Cove continues a traditional cruiser style representing the Down East lobster boat associated with Maine's proud boat building heritage. The Back Cove 30 is another example of everything that makes the Down East lobster boat a work of art with details as the traditional spoon bow and her gently slopped transom. Below the surface the new Back Cove 30 is modern and contemporary, continuing what we are used to see from this USA builder. A resin infused, with sixteen degrees dead rise Vee hull with prop recess and standard trim tabs offers a quiet and comfortable ride. With her standard 315hp Yanmar diesel the 40 cruises at 20 knots and top out at 25, and with optional higher horsepower, she will cruise at 25 knots. Around the docks, you will appreciate the maneuverability provided by her standard bow thruster and if circumstances require it an optional stern thruster is also available. Her deck hardware is as rugged as the coastline she calls home.

Project: Back Cove 30

Announced in the company blog, Back Cove is set to replace its 29 with the above 30 project. The 29 started the company and propelled it to a success of delivering over four hundred plus of boats in five years time. The 30 will replace the first Back Cove as of coming late Spring of next year. Unlike the 29 the new 30 will be offered standard with hard top, Yanmar 315hp engines, molded-in cockpit seating and a transom door. The interior seating, and head unit take a lot from its predecessor, with the exception in the improved galley storage and the manner in which the salon transforms into a berth. Here Back Cove used a concept to use the berth cushions which lay along the hull side, which can be deployed athwart ships to create a cozy environment in which to relax below decks. In the main deck inside the saloon Back Cove also raised the seating so that everyone has the same view as the helmsman while underway. The interior accommodation plan is presented with an L-shaped saloon settee to starboard of the main deck, with a settee opposite, single helm chair to starboard, and a double passenger seat to port. Down three steps take you below with a shower head to port, opposite galley, and vee shaped saloon to fore which transforms to a double berth. The cockpit follows the concept of the new Back Coves with molded-in seating and the easy access through the transom door.

New Model: Back Cove 37

A waited presentation from Back Cove this US Maine builder, presenting with the new 37 its biggest build so far. As all the small Back Cove the new 37 continues the single engine concept for top economy and low maintenance, which have built the popularity of this brand. Other news for Back Cove coinciding with the launch of its new bigger boat is the building method in infusion molding technique. The accommodation offers a lower deck, forward we have the master stateroom with an island berth, to starboard aft of the master is a full guest cabin with double berth, and opposite to port is a head unit with separate stall shower. Between the lower and salon sole levels, there is the mid-galley filled with natural light from the above windows, and fully equipped with a two drawer refrigerator, a freezer, microwave and deep stainless steel sink. In the main deck salon you have the helm station to starboard equipped with twin Stidd seats for him and the crew, aft of the helm seat an L-shaped settee, and to port a shorter settee. Large windows provide ample light and air while overhead a large sliding pilot hatch allows air to flow through this space. Another nice bonus is the cockpit saloon connectivity, with large swing doors completely opening up the salon to the cockpit. Power for new Back Cove 37 will come from single Cummins of 480hp up to 600hp, with a Yanmar 530hp choice also available. The big Cummins gives speeds of 27 knots max and about 24 knots cruising.

Project: Back Cove 37

Back Cove Yachts has grown significantly since the first 29 was launched in 2003, and delivering 300 craft after this in a 6 year period. The market has accepted Back Cove traditional looking cruisers, with overwhelming enthusiasism and the question asked to the US builder what size will be the next model, following the overwhelming success of the 33. Naval architecture logic says that planing, single engine boats that like to go more than 20 knots, are limited in LOA to about 11 metres due to weight and drag factors, so Back Cove's design team has envisioned the 37, which will be its current largest offer at 37 feet. Her interior will feature two private cabins and a shared head with stall shower. She will have a mid-level galley and a fully enclosed sedan style helm deck. Her exterior offers the same hallmarks that other Back Cove models provide. Safe and wide side decks, great deck hardware a very crew-friendly foredeck and a large cockpit with plenty of seating. Standard power is a 480 HP Cummins QSB diesel engine and she'll have gen set and air conditioning supplied as standard. At the helm, two Stidd seats offer comfortable perches for helmsperson and crew.
