Project: Sunseeker 76 Yacht

Sunseeker present the project for a new 76 Yacht, a model which replaces the 75 and takes design cues from the successful 66 Manhattan as launched in early 2018.  The 76 Yacht seems to have been incredibly received by dealers and clients with eighteen units pre-sold on plan.  The 76 Yacht certainly hits the sweet spot in terms of size, space and a larger yacht feel whilst being extremely manageable for those looking to self-crew. Clever design maximizes social and entertaining spaces, whilst the innovative use of glass enhances natural light, making this a bright and airy boat in which to relax and unwind with family and friends.  The optional retractable glass skylight over the lower helm, creates an almost open boat feel to the helm and the adjacent companion seating area to port which is the ideal spot for guests to enjoy the view whilst underway. Natural light also flows into the main deck through extended window lines and unique full-height glazing on the port side.  The 76 Yacht exterior decks provide unprecedented levels of space and flexibility that can be can be adapted to suit any needs, whether relaxing, entertaining or both. Space is on the new 76 Yacht is about 25% more than the highly popular 75 predecessor it is going to replace. The cockpit for example can be adapted to provide additional lounge seating or a cocktail bar for afternoon drinks and the option of a ‘beach club’ complete with BBQ grill, fold-out seating and full height rain shower makes full use of the extensive bathing platform which is large enough to carry a four meter plus rib. The vast flybridge is another exceptional feature of the 76 Yacht, and the impressive layout can be further enhanced by the addition of an optional spa-tub and cocktail bar to further complement that larger yacht feel.  The light and space continues below deck, where there are four cabins and four bathrooms, including an impressive full beam master suite with ensuite and dressing area. The spacious crew cabin can accommodate up to three people in an open-plan layout or can be specified with an enclosed double berth cabin.  The Sunseeker 76 Yacht is powered by engines up to twin 1550hp engines, which should deliver a cruise of 25 knots and a range at this speed of about four hundred nautical miles.

Engine: Volvo D13 1000hp

Volvo Penta presents the new D13-1000 which sees the Swedish engine maker move into the 1000hp marine leisure engine market for the first time, and provides higher performance, greater durability and more comfort than ever before. The inboard engine and its equivalent from Volvo Penta’s Inboard Performance System (IPS) range, the D13-IPS1350 have been designed for the benefit of customers operating yachts of up to 120ft.  As a mark of its commitment to the marine leisure industry, Volvo Penta has carried out a major redesign of the 13-liter engine model and drive train in order to offer an outstanding new product. High-end yacht customers will be able to reap the benefits, as features such as new pistons, highly efficient injectors and improved cooling systems, combine to produce 11 per cent more power than on previous engines. The optimized power-to-weight ratio and excellent low-end torque of the D13-1000 provide incredible power on demand. With this new engine, Volvo Penta is giving premium boat owners the possibility to go further and faster than ever before.  Volvo Penta’s D13-IPS1350 is an integrated package that matches the new D13 engine with an upgraded IPS pod drive. It is named D13-IPS1350 as the 1000hp engine provides the equivalent power of a 1350hp engine when matched to the IPS drive. As a complete package, the new IPS has all the traditional benefits of the system in providing a seamless link from helm to propellers, with superior grip in the water. When compared to a traditional inboard shaft engine installation, Volvo Penta IPS provides a longer cruising range, higher top speed, reduced fuel consumption and emissions, reduced vibration, and lower onboard noise levels. The configuration also allows for more space on board.  Upgrades to the IPS pod drive have been made to match the new engine. The D13-IPS1350 package is available in twin, triple or quadruple installation; the latter of these provides power to the equivalent of 5400hp. Improved features on the new IPS drive can also be fitted on existing IPS units.  The D13-IPS1350 has been field tested in a 68ft yacht and its data compared to a 1360hp traditional inboard engine from a Volvo Penta competitor. Volvo Penta’s unit was lighter with better displacement, used 36 per cent less fuel, had faster acceleration and a higher top speed, and lower noise and vibration.

New Model: Heesen 50m YN 17850

Heesen is proud to announce that on 1 July 2017, the world’s first Fast Displacement motor yacht equipped with hybrid propulsion was delivered to her Owner in international waters.  Name M/Y Home and formerly Project Nova, YN 17850 is a fifty meter all aluminium super yacht below 500 GT with shallow draft and it underwent intensive sea trials in the North Sea for five days in calm sea conditions, with waves of up to 0.5m and light breeze.  The results are impressive: not only has YN 17850 easily exceeded her contractual maximum speed of 16 knots in the traditional diesel engine mode, but also expectations in her hybrid ‘silent cruising mode’. Thanks to two 127kW water-cooled DC electric shaft motors, she exceeded the predicted speed of 9 knots with noise and vibration levels well below the specification levels.  Heesen YN 17850 is not only ultra-quiet, but she is also extremely fuel efficient. At 12 knots, she has a fuel consumption of 98 liters per hour excluding generators and at ten knots in hybrid mode this further reduces to a staggering 45 liters per hour, which for a 50m yacht, displacing 295 tons and with a Gross Tonnage of 499, is an outstanding achievement. Heesen is renowned for its meticulous attention to weight reduction and YN 17850 is an effortless embodiment of this; being lighter than predicted, she is the perfect demonstration of Heesen’s signature capabilities.  Heesen 50m YN 17850 will debut at the Monaco Yacht Show at the end of September.

Project: Beneteau 35 Swift Trawler

Following the success of the Swift Trawler 34, which dominated the small explorer cruiser long cruise segment for eight years, Beneteau announces the project for its successor, the Swift Trawler 35 set to launch this Summer and presented officially in September at the Southampton boat show. The Swift Trawler 35 is stylish and modern with valuable new spaces indoors and gives an incredible feeling of safety on board.  Built on a semi-planing flared hull, developed with Beneteau and Italian designer Andreani, the Swift Trawler 35 has a Cummins 425 hp engine. The flybridge of the Swift Trawler 35 emphasizes the explorer cruisers harmonious profile yet marks her distinctive long cruise temperament. Broad walkways, lots of hand rails and high push pits exceeding regulation standards reveal the importance attached to safety on board. With regard to visibility, the Swift Trawler 35’s wheelhouse has a full around view and is bathed with natural light. For optimum comfort whatever the weather, the Swift Trawler 35 has opted for a modular exterior. Continuing to the far end of the starboard gangway, the awning closing off the cockpit unfolds quickly and easily from the flybridge structure. The exterior blind of the side door overlooking the gangway shuts off this space, providing privacy. The emphasis on protection is repeated on the flybridge with the semi-hard Bimini or soft top with built-in LEDs. The soft top’s stainless steel arch features the elegant Beneteau signature mark and can be used to support antennas and flags.  The Swift Trawler 35 is designed to offer more space on board, so the flybridge easily seats six people.  With an optional fridge, a driving station with repeated navigation instruments, a rotating driver’s seat and a double sun-lounger at the stern, this fully flush living area offers a comfortable experience on the roof of the boat.  The Swift Trawler 35’s interior is as elegant as it is practical, with matching teak and easy to maintain upholstery. The owner cabin is reached through a gullwing door making it easy to move around. The second twin cabin with bunk beds has a spacious and fully fitted shower room with independent shower. The sofa bed in the saloon provides an extra berth at night and it can be shut off from the wheelhouse by a curtain.

blogger - Summer of Events

Now in the peak of the Summer and the 2017 boating season, this year is showing that the major players of the industry are seeing positive results and finally are giving more to the customers, with interesting creative events as we have not seen in recent times.  This means that marketing departments budgets are increasing.
One of the most creative players in this regard seems to be Azimut who is organizing an interesting Mediterranean tour for the launch of its new S7 model.  We have to remember that in this regard the Azimut-Benetti Group never stopped doing its famous Yachting Gala event which has been ongoing non stop in the best and the not so good times since 2007.  Also to say is that this is not the first time Azimut does something similar, and the launch of the Magellano range with the 74 model had went into a tour in the fall of 2010 around the central West part of the Mediterranean sea.
Beneteau Group dealers have jumped on a total different strategy offering an interesting competitive priced internal charter program for its boat owners in France.  While Ferretti Group seems to encourage its dealers; with the American, Greek, and Slovenian dealership all active in organizing events in the most sought places of the area and region they represent.
Surprisingly the trio of British builders seem to be quiet in this regard with the exception of Fairline who did a rendezvous in late Spring which also coincided with the fiftieth birthday of the boat builder.

Horizon Group Thirtieth Anniversary

On a beautiful and sunny day in June, Horizon Group celebrated its 30th anniversary alongside one the company’s major milestones: the Horizon City Marina. Featuring four main entertaining areas – Horizon Plaza, Horizon Wonderland, the Yacht Experience, and the Waterfront Party – the festivities provided a little bit of everything from a food court, amusement rides, and games to a live concert to end the night. Over 3,300 guests, including employees, their families and friends, and business partners, attended this unforgettable event to celebrate Horizon’s 30 years of success.  The opening ceremony took place at the Horizon Plaza, where guests counted down to zero with Horizon Group CEO John Lu; when zero was reached, the yachts in the marina blew their horns into the southern Taiwan sky and officially opened the celebration. Guests were then guided by a famous aerobic trainer to undertake the group effort of forming the number 30, and the image was recorded and projected onto the main stage screen by a drone so everyone could see the fun.  Strolling to the Horizon Wonderland, guests were treated to an amusement park experience for all ages to enjoy! Thirteen attractions, such as a merry-go-round, kid robots, a surfing machine and more provided plenty of fun and laughter. Additionally, a specialized pool allowed parents and children to experience popular water sports such as kayaking and SUP.  At Horizon City Marina, employees’ families and friends were offered the experience of touring five luxury yachts – the RP110, FD85, E62, E56 and E56XO – and getting a feel for the yachting lifestyle. This was a special event for the family and friends of Horizon employees, as it gave them the chance to see first-hand the finished product that comes from all the hard work of their loved ones!  As evening approached, music flowed from the Waterfront Party, hinting at the excitement to come. The lights went out and the screen played Horizon’s 30th anniversary video, which documents the company’s journey and history over the past three decades. After thanking all the employees for their dedication, Horizon CEO John Lu, the chairman, James Cheng, and the managers raised their glasses and asked all the guests to share in a toast to the past, present and future for Horizon.  The evening swiftly moved into the highly anticipated concert events, where artists and bands, including the highly popular Taiwanese band Wu-Bai & China Blue, took turns rocking the night. Many guests enjoyed the music from on board a yacht, while others took to the grass to dance to their favorite songs. As the concert came to end, the crowd yelled “encore” and even the yachts joined in, blowing their horns to encourage a final tune.  An unforgettable time spent in the company and friends, family and coworkers, the Horizon 30th anniversary was a true expression of joy, pride and gratitude - not only for everything the company has accomplished together but also what we will continue achieve. Here’s to the next 30 years!

Princess Yachts Track Back to Profit

After a year marked by intense investment, and buoyed by full order books, Princess Yachts Limited today reports a marked turnaround from previous years. 2015 saw an operating loss (before exceptional costs) of £18.1m on turnover of £201.2m, and now in 2016 the loss has more than halved to £7.0m on turnover of £216.7m, indicating a strong positive turnaround.  Having endured a challenging trading environment – in common with other luxury yacht makers – Princess began 2016 by developing an aggressive business strategy and initiating restructuring of its operations at its facilities in Plymouth. These important steps have both delivered business efficiencies and safeguarded employment for more than 2,350 people.  In parallel, the launch of 4 new highly successful models has set the stage for a three-year £55m investment programme which will significantly broaden and strengthen the Princess model range. Following record sales at the Cannes, Düsseldorf and Ft. Lauderdale boat shows, orders across the range now exceed an extraordinary £0.5 billion at retail prices. The current year will see a new model launched, on average, every two months, taking Princess into new markets and opportunities.  2016 was the first full year at the helm for the company's Executive Chairman, Antony Sheriff. Previously CEO of McLaren Automotive, Mr Sheriff came to Princess with a strong track record in leading profitable businesses with best-in-class luxury products.  Antony Sheriff said: "We are encouraged to see a positive and rapid turnaround. Over the course of 2016 our order book has increased by over 60% from already strong levels, driven by a 25% increase in retail sales rate which has outstripped production. In 2017, these indicators have continued to improve, which is the clearest signal of the strength of our brand and the enthusiasm with which our customers have embraced our new yachts.  "Moving forward, with strong shareholder support, we are convinced that our ambitious strategy to aggressively invest in both our new products and our workforce at our historic Plymouth facilities, has already brought significant benefits to the business, with more to come as 2017 is shaping up to be a year that drives us to the next level."

Sea Ray Joins the NMMA Celebrating Outdoors

On Tuesday, July 18, Sea Ray participated in the Made in America Outdoor Recreation Media Event, joining the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke, Members of Congress and members of the Outdoor Recreation Industry Roundtable (ORIR) for a discussion of how public-private partnerships can improve visitor experiences on public lands and waters. NMMA President Thom Dammrich, an ORIR member, opened the meeting by introducing almost 30 opportunities for immediate private investment on public lands totaling more than $80 million, just the first wave of potentially thousands more opportunities that will emerge over the next few months if changes can be made to welcome more private investment to enhance recreational experiences on public lands. Sea Ray was one of only three marine manufacturers chosen to attend and have a boat on display. “We’re honored to have been invited to participate in this event,” said Scott Ward, president and general manager of Sea Ray Sport Yachts and Yachts. “As a leading manufacturer of American-made boats, Sea Ray is committed to championing our country’s natural resources and enabling boaters to enjoy them to the fullest. Together with our dedicated dealer network, our fellow manufacturers and organizations like the NMMA, we’re proud to champion boating as one of the best ways to get outdoors.”  The outdoor recreation industry generates $887 billion in direct spending and supports 7.6 million jobs across all 50 states. In recreational boating alone, there are an estimated 38,400 manufacturing jobs that drive 472,000 marine industry jobs. Recreational boating produces $36 billion in expenditures each year through an estimated 35,000 small businesses.  The meeting was followed by a showcase of American-made outdoor recreation equipment, held at Simón Bolivar Park across from the Department of Interior as part of “Made in America Week” in D.C. Local dealership Prince William Marine Sales, a Certified Brunswick Platinum Master Dealer and Top 100 Marine Industry Hall of Fame Dealer, provided a Sea Ray SPX 210 for the display. The sport boat, one of several models in the popular and accessible SPX series, was manufactured at Sea Ray’s Tellico Plant in Vonore, Tennessee.  “Outdoor recreation is a vital contributor to the economic well-being of America and the healthful well-being of everyone who lives and plays here,” said Brad Anderson, president and general manager of Sea Ray Sport Boats and Sport Cruisers. “Sea Ray is proud to produce boats, like the SPX 210, that empower enjoyment of the outdoors while creating jobs and opportunities for our community and our nation.”

Viking at Blue Marlin Grand Championship

It was a wild week in the Gulf. A fleet of 63 of sportfishing's top battlewagons headed out last Thursday from The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama, all with their eye on the prize. The Viking 68 Breathe Easy, last year's Gulf Coast Triple Crown Champion, finished in 2nd Place Overall, without weighing a billfish. Captain Patrick Ivie, owner Matt McDonald and the team scored four blue marlin releases, along with a 143.4-pound yellowfin tuna, to earn a six-figure check. Another previous Triple Crown Champion, Done Deal (left), finished second in releases with three blues to its credit, thanks to the performance of the Top Lady Angler, Katie Gonsoulin, daughter of owner Jon Gonsoulin. Captain Jason Buck runs this Viking 70. Quick Time (right), a Viking 70 run by Captain Shelby Johnson, was the 3rd Place Release Team. Jason Benton, owner of Don't Blink, a Viking 56 run by Captain Skip McAllister, was the top rod in the tuna division with a 173.6-pound yellow fin. Other boats earning tuna payouts include the Viking 70 Aldente, Viking 58 Rising Sons and Viking 76 Team Supreme.

Viking at Offshore Showdown

Hosted by South Jersey Tournaments and South Jersey Yacht Sales at the beautiful Canyon Club Resort, the inaugural Offshore Showdown was a roaring success despite Mother Nature being a bit temperamental. The teams fished two days and made great use of the pool party barbecue lay day. The Viking 61 Reelin Feelin held center stage under the big top at the awards dinner. The boat claimed Most Points Overall, 2nd Place White Marlin Points and 3rd Place Tuna Points. Reelin Feelin angler Mike Hudson took Most Points White Marlin while Sean Singley weighed in the heaviest tuna with a 63-pound fish.  Most Points Tuna and 3rd Place Overall Points went to the Viking 70 Krazy Salt's. Project: Horizon V67

Hull One of Horizon Yachts’ latest model, the new V67 motoryacht, will soon make its debut. Created in collaboration with world-renowned designer Jonathan Quinn Barnett, the Horizon V67 is the third model in the V series, which includes the V72 and V80 motor yachts.  The Horizon JQB team combined input from international yacht brokers and clients specifications to tailor the V67 to three specific objectives: safety, solid architecture, and customization to an owner’s lifestyle normally found with superyacht projects.  Immediately striking in appearance thanks to a plumb bow design and only the second Horizon model apart from the FD series to feature such, the V67 has been planned throughout with large open spaces, wide side decks and a voluminous interior that takes advantage of large windows in the main deck and cabins and a wide beam. Excellent visibility and sizable stainless steel handrails underscore the attention given to safety that is of particular importance to owner/operators. The adoption of the plumb bow was the critical element that formed the basis of the V67’s design, notes Christian Stimson of Stimson Yachts of New Zealand who is responsible for the hull design and naval architecture. The vertical bow allowed for a longer waterline, which in turn affords a generous beam and reduces drag at lower, displacement speeds. The larger hull beam not only makes for greater stability and increased interior spaces, but also allowed the team to increase headroom without affecting the yacht’s low profile.  This “solid architecture” is testament to what JQB calls “honesty in design,” meaning that there are no visual tricks employed to make the boat appear larger than it is. Instead, the V67 boasts copious large yacht features ingeniously fitted within a manageable owner/operator framework.  Unique to an entry-level motor yacht such as the V67 is the option for customization, and owners are given the choice of at least two major layout options for each deck. The V67 offers a three or four-cabin layout with a private and spacious master suite located midship with a walk-in closet and vanity. Optional quarters for crew are situated aft. JQB focused here on opening any narrow passages into foyers and making the stairs larger with less rise to optimize the flow throughout the vessel.  On the main deck, the design emphasizes unobstructed views to enhance the feeling of spaciousness with an open salon that flows into a large joined galley and country kitchen; the main deck can also be configured with a country kitchen or lower helm forward. The open flybridge, which is the standard configuration for this model, features a bar with dinette seating under the hard top while a spacious sunbathing and dining area is found further forward on the bow. The flybridge can be enclosed with a day-head added if desired, and removable seating with table and chairs can be added to the boat deck.  Advanced systems, safety in design, luxurious finishes and options for customization, qualities of a custom superyacht are the cornerstones of the V67 model. Ideal for first or second-time buyers, families and owner/operators, the V67 has a shallow draft less and offers extended cruising capabilities via twin Caterpillar 1136hp each. Hull One of the new V67, destined for U.S. inventory with Horizon Yacht USA, features the galley/country kitchen, three-stateroom, and open flybridge configuration suitable for the global market; she is expected to launch in February 2018.

Web: F&S Boatworks New Web Site

Delaware's custom Sportfish Yacht builder F&S Boatworks presents a new virtual Internet showroom. Jim Floyd founded F&S around the late eighties, building hull number one a 58 foot Sportfish Yacht which today is called Triple-Net. But the founding pillars of F&S Boatworks are earlier to this, when Jim entered the woodwork trade in his early twenties, and later on founded his own construction company practicing as master carpenter and cabinet maker. United with an outdoor passion, Jim hunts and fishes most of the East Coast on a 23 foot Seacraft, which leads him to Carolina in the late seventies where the first custom builders shops start refining and pioneering the works for cold molded construction. Studying these builders and experimenting with resins and hull shapes Jim launches his first boat, which was built in the unlikely location of Middletown chicken house. The first F&S featured what have become trademark touches of the models coming from Delaware; having Carolina lines with bow flair and shear line included, and a variable deadrise hull. F&S are built in cold molding glass fibre with resin over wood in jig method, and feature a unique variable deadrise, longitudinal stepped Vee hull. This gives benefits as stability at roll, track ability in following waters, and soft head sea entry. F&S has so far delivered 26 boats from 1988 till today, although there was a twelve year break period till the second built went in the water. The smallest of the constructions has been a 36 feet Express with outboards hull 21 delivered in 2012, and the largest is the 2012 delivered hull 21 at 75 feet. Today F&S is managed by Jim Floyd, wife Maria, children Tim and Christina all in the business, with Joe Bonvetti and a select group of craftsman building each Sportfish Yacht to owner specifications. Currently F&S has three constructions in progress one of which is a new flagship of 78 feet hull number 27. F&S new website takes you around with the following buttons: Home, About, Our Models, Video, Client Login, and Contact.  F&S is also on social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram with links on the bottom of the page.

An additional segregated stowage compartment is on the lower deck for extra refrigeration or wine storage, if necessary this area can be build to spec as a cabin with additional extra berths.  The guest area and lounge is finished in a rich natural wood veneer with parquet flooring. Furnishings expand on this theme. The same feeling of natural wood with furnishings in white laminate and wood trim provide a warm home away from home for her crew. Power for the Lynx YXT 20 is from twin Cummins 715hp Cummins diesels giving her a cruising speed of 14 knots and a range of 900 nautical miles.

Project: Estensi 380 America

Estensi present the project for a new 380 America model set to be World launched in the upcoming 2017 Cannes boat show.  The Estensi 380 America is based on the Mauro Zuccheri designed hull lines of the 360 Goldstar, with looks and upper structure inspired by East coast USA sport fisherman cruiser and designed by Marino Alfano.  Still to be fair to the genre, the Estensi is not a sport-fishing machine although the exterior looks are inspired to this, the features in the cockpit are not.  For example the cockpit deck of the 360 America will be a flat floor, with a bench settee to port side,  while to starboard we have a dinette with a mezzanine style settee looking aft. Interior wise the Estensi 380 America will be offered in two versions a more cabin layout with two cabins and one head ideal for a family cruise, and a more open layout set for short stays and or day trips.  The Estensi 380 America will be powered by standard twin Volvo 300hp and or optional 370hp.  An outboard version is also set to be available.

Web: Dellapasqua New Web Site

Dellapasqua presents its new World wide web virtual showroom.  Starting up in 1956 Giancarlo Dellapasqua gets an apprenticeship with Lugaresi Naval Shipyard in Rimini where in three years he gets the title and licence of master craftsman with the ability to build boats up to 150 tons. Feeling confident of his title in 1959 Dellapasqua founds his boat building premises first in Savignano on Rubicone, and later on in 1970 moving to the today establishment of Marina di Ravenna. The first year of the Dellapasqua DC brand is successful with the deliveries of seventeen boats. The first boats of DC are flat bottomed hulls, but hearing of the success of the deep Vee Hunt shape, Dellapasqua decides to renew his designs with the new trend, put some personal modifications and use it from there onward for all his boats. This intuition puts Dellapasqua competing in important races in Italy of the time so that his name gets more established, and with the help of this creates the first DC4 and DC5 models. Following the operation of new premises in 1971 Dellapasqua produces its first fiberglass boat with the DC6. With this comes the fiberglass laboratory in Punta Marina of 35.000 squared meters, and a personal office in Lavagna. In 1990 Giancarlo Dellapasqua buys the other half of brand rights from Carnevali for the DC brand, this now means a full family operation. Giancarlo son Mirco graduates in the Nautical Institute of Trieste becoming responsible for fiberglass, Patrizia takes care of administration, and younger Serenella who joined in 1991 is handed over the technical department. Another important figure in the yard is Stefano Salvadori husband to Marinella who responds to the suppliers for the building of the Dellapasqua boats. Today at close to sixty years in operation Dellapasqua has delivered over 1300 boats most of which to order with a great input from the owner. The current Dellapasqua line up features fifteen models and starts with the DC7 Elite, up to the DC18 SL flagship. The new Dellapasqua website is available in Italian and English language and takes you around with the following buttons: Boat Yard, Fleet, Used, Charter, Service, Concept Design, and Contacts.
