Project: Chris-Craft 36 Corsair

Chris Craft revise what it is at the moment there largest model the 36 Corsair, although a bigger 45 feet flagship was announced a few years back by the known long standing US boat builder.  The new 36 Corsair will be offered in two versions; the Open Edition as pictured above, and European Edition.  These versions are different for the layout of the aft deck, the Open offering two L-shaped settees with central entrance patio door, and the European a walk over sunpad.  The Open being obviously the most practical and the European more sexy. But the European version does also feature a C-shaped settee front of the sunpad, to make lounging easy.  Inside the 36 Corsair will also offer some layout choice plans in the four berth area, and in the V-shaped convertible dinette also offered in a fixed double berth replacement option.  A second separate good spaced twin berth cabin is located to midships.  The 36 Corsair also features a spacious shower head located to starboard opposite the galley. Engines have not yet been announced for the new 36 Corsair but expect these to be similar as the previous version, and I hope they do feature more diesel engine options instead of the only twin Volvo D6 choice.

Project: Ranger Tugs R-31

Fluid Motion the designers and builders of the popular line of Ranger Tugs introduce the newest project model in the fleet, the new R-31. The builders at Ranger Tugs also equipped the foredeck with seating and a table that can be raised or lowered depending on whether the boat is under way or at anchor or dock for entertaining. In addition to the extra seating now available on the flybridge and foredeck the 31 allows for a larger cockpit area with wraparound seating and extra seating that folds out of the gunwale. When not entertaining, seats are folded leaving the cockpit unencumbered. The interior layout of the R-31 features two staterooms; one large island berth forward with en suite head and a midships berth and day head. Those who are familiar with Ranger Tugs models will recognize the galley layout and lower helm station that maximize interior space. A starboard side door provides easy access from the lower helm to the side decks so crew can get to the bow for line handling.  Like all Ranger Tugs, the new R31 comes essentially turnkey with standard features and equipment intended to make her owner's experience hassle-free and allow for ease of handling and comfort under way. Standard equipment includes bow and stern thrusters, an optional aft steering station and a Volvo 300hp engine that achieves a 16 knot cruise speed.

Project: Bavaria 39 Sport HT

Bavaria celebrates a world premiere with the 39 Sport HT at the 2012 Dusseldorf International Boat Show.  An evolution of the current 38, the new 39 Sport HT strikes for its redesigned, cockpit, different stern, and new hull side windows serving the cabins and lounging area below.  The cockpit features now more egonomic sport pilot seat and additional storage space. Large hull windows and a new stern construction also afford the 39 Sport HT a more dynamic appearance on water. In addition, an optional exclusive hull colour scheme and sporty design stripes are also available upon request. In the cockpit, folding bench seats provide extra additional storage. Below deck, high quality furnishings, equipment and veneers demonstrate the 39's exclusive design in the saloon, galley, and two double cabins. This is the Bavaria shipyard’s first ever yacht to be available with a full teak finish from bow to stern. The spacious salon is furnished in fine carpet. The standard version also comes with a full lighting package for the perfect ambiance both above and below deck and a high-quality Fusion sound system with performance speaker settings.  Power is a choice of four diesel engines from 260 to 370hp from Volvo, and a Mercruiser gas 320hp petrol choice.  Propulsion is stern drive with efficient dual props set up.

New Model: Sanlorenzo SL94

A new Sanlorenzo is always headline news for the motor yacht enthusiasts, and while the company has been going into more modern looks, the classic unmistakable lines of this Italian builder remain.  The SL94 is a totally new model which for Sanlorenzo fills the gap between the long produced and much appreciated 88, and the last year presented 104.  The SL94 is designed by long standing Sanlorenzo designer Paszkowski who presents a two deck and half super yacht. The half deck being the raised pilot house.  Down below is four double cabins in traditional layout, meaning owners room to midships, VIP to fore and two double guest cabins in between.  Although as any Sanlorenzo do accept the layout to be custom not only in fittings but also in format.  This is the most standard accepted format by the usual buyer.  Crew space is located to fore with two cabins sleeping four on bunks.  Here Sanlorenzo keeps its name of having small cabin space for size, that is of 28 meters.  Power is from two units from standard Cats 1896hp, and optional MTU 2184hp units.  Top speeds are 27 knots with the standard Cats, and 29 with the optional MTU.

New Model: Innovazioni Progetti 40 Mira SC

Located in the North Adriatic sea Innovazioni Progetti has made the last year one of an update to its range, presenting various new models in all the sizes it offers from 34 to 72 feet.  The 40 Mira SC just as the bigger 44, is the reinterpretation of the 40 Mira produced since 2000 and having a good success in its ten years production run.  Inhouse designer Michele Carnvale with the new 40 Mira SC evolves it into a hard top sport cruiser but revised hull lines for those familiar with the old model can be noticed.  These now looking more aggressive and modern. The 40 Mira SC as the old 40 continues the heritage for a comfortable sport cruiser, with a hard to find three double cabins layout below which is not easy to find in this size.  Still with this layout Innovazioni Progetti take nothing from the comfort in the saloon and galley located in between the owners room to fore, and the two guest cabins to midships.  The cockpit and aft deck are also completely new as is the stern layout now more in line with the times.  But Innovazioni Progetti where among the first to feature flash deck in there boats of various sizes, and this pays more today when this seems to be becoming more of a demand today.  Power is from twin Volvo 330 or optional 370hp with economic to run stern drives propulsion.

Project: Octagon i54 PC

Octagon is a German shipyard which just appeared in the scene with a modern looking power catamaran project, the i54PC.  This Octagon catamaran combines design and functionality in a special way: with the shipyard and designers setting themselves apart for months with the project before starting the construction.  May be this is shown for the more futuristic lines, and design of the i54 PC. The salon, with its circular seating arrangement and the functional galley configure the main deck while below we have space for four cabins with separate shower heads.  Seems amazing for sixteen meter even for a catamaran.  Octagon say other versions are available for the layout, with larger owner's cabin choices dedicating a full hull as well.  A highlight in the i54 PC is also the opening hardtop, this leaving the flybridge dry, even when the large roof is securely closed.  Standard engines will be twin 370hp suggesting a moderate medium speed under 20 knots.  Still no performance data as yet so this is just speculation from my part.

The 1350 Escape offers accommodation for six in three cabins plus two extra guests in the convertible saloon.  But alternative versions also exist with two or three bathrooms with shower.  Engine is a single unit power of economic running from 55 up to 110hp, but options also exist for fuel and water tank capacity.

New Model: Cranchi M40 ST

Cranchi showed good spirit in the fall of last year presenting four new models in all sizes aiming to upgrade its range to clients new demands.  The M40 ST has been one of the most awaited new models from Cranchi for its size, and comfort.  The M40 ST fills an important hole in Cranchi's sport cruiser range left empty since the demise of the 41 Mediterranee stopped in production in 2002.  The M40 ST impresses for its comfort which is also helped by an overall length which measures 44 feet.  But spaces in the M which stands in fact for Mediterranee and ST for Soft Top abound everywhere; outside and inside.  The interior is spacious in this size and style of sport cruiser offering sleeping for five in two cabins, with an owners room to fore plus two extra berths in the convertible C-shaped saloon.  Cranchi did not follow trends of offering a midships owner room but took the route to offer a three berth cabin here.  Below is also space for a spacious L-shaped galley, plus two heads one of which en-suite for the owner. Standard power is from twin Volvo 330hp with stern dual propeller propulsion which gives a 33 knots max speed.

In cooperation with Azure Naval Architects and Guido de Groot, Jongert developed the LE 500, a 50 meters long motor yacht with a gross tonnage of slightly less than 500 GT. The LE 500 is equipped with a hybrid diesel electric propulsion system using Lithium-ion batteries. If desired the yacht can be equipped with fully wheelchair accessibility and/or a lift. One of the many special facilities on board is the telescopic anchor system. This system allows the yacht to be moored quickly and easily in any place up to 15 meters depth. The first two yachts will be built as a special “limited edition”.  Construction is all in aluminium deck and super structure for the 500 LE what is a three decks super yacht.  Top speeds are up to 20 knots.

New Model: Back Cove 34

With the 34 Back Cove builds on upgrading the 33 model.  The new Back Cove 34 sits in the middle of its three model line up of traditional looking down East cruisers which from 30 to 37 feet.  Needless to say the hull lines are the same but Back Cove sought to improve in important areas as the cabin now having an island double berth in replacement to the convertible Vee shaped saloon, and new extended aft deck.  With the 34 Back Cove stays as all its past and current models to a single engine with a Cummins 480hp unit and shaft line propulsion.  Although I always think that with this they are loosing market share, but for hull design this makes a better sense.

Improve-it = Absolute 40 STY

It is in sticking to client demands that the market plays at the moment, and Absolute show this with the just launched 40 STY.  At the Genoa boat show Absolute presented a new alternative choice to the stern layout of the 40STY.  Now clients have the choice to equip it with an aft sunpad like the bigger Absolute 43 or 53 STY sisters, in replacement to the standard settee.  The sunpad also transforms to a settee in a matter of seconds, giving an owner the best of both Worlds.  I am sure this alternative option comes after the launch at Cannes of the 40 STY, which showed clients preferring the sunpad as the 43 STY, but still wanted a three feet smaller size sport cruiser.

In the sleeping quarters below decks is two double cabins and an independent shower head. Project: Broom 35 Coupe

It's always more difficult to categorize boats these days. as some cruiser the enclosed type as the above Broom 35 Coupe project offer the best of two Worlds.  That is sports looks, and a comfort which compares and competes well to that of a flybridge cruiser minus the second helm.  The Broom 35 Coupe see the forward thinking the reborn Broom has embraced in the last year, and should be a hard thinker for those wanting a full year comfortable sport cruiser. Choice is also part of the 35 Coupe with two layout options one with a two cabins plan, and a single owners suite version which makes a nice condo for a couple on the sea.  A very much I like in the layout is also the L-shaped aft galley solution found here by the patio door serving the aft deck. Power options are not yet announced but suspect Broom to go for its roots of shafts propulsion, and a single or twin choice which with the largest horsepower options giving max to the whereabouts of 30 knots.

New Model: Bertram 64

Bertram's new 64 replaces the since 2003 produced and fifty plus models delivered 630, replacement of the legend that was the Napier designed 60.  The 64 builds and improves the good qualities of the 630, but most of all it builds more on its sportfish battle wagon features thanks to huge input of Bertram president Alton Hendon.  Think of the aft deck now being the largest in this size being 194 squared feet in area, with plenty of storage for the angler being it hobby or competition.  Improved design features are a smoother shear line, with or without center line windows.  So far there is no mention of a lower helm choice, as Bertram's other recent new models as the 540, 511 and 800.  But an enclosed bridge version will be available later on, adding three tons to the weight.  Power is from three engines choices Cats or MTU starting at 1676 till 2001hp.  Cats 1925hp engines will give a fast 40 knots wide open throttle max.

blogger - Governments

It would have been nice to start 2012 in a more happy tone then this, but it seems to be the latest order in Europe.  Governments are going full on taxing one of the most employing industries today, that is the yachting sector.  The latest to attack its own home industry is the Italian government, who pulled into the Euro crisis, decided to introduce a boat stationing tax.  A return to the past of the old stationing tax the country had in the nineties but was only for Italian residents.  That means this one is worst because it also taxes the tourist, and the Italian.  Telling to the tourist yachtsman to avoid its coast.
Italy has the second boating industry World wide following the US, and first in the super yacht sector over 24 meters.  The Italian yachting industry gave much to the Italian government and in the period 2007 it gave over six billion Euros. In 2011 in full recession mode it will still give over three billion Euros to the Italian cash.  That is excluding the indirect income from tourism which boating and yachting bring in the harbours. The Italian boating companies of builders and suppliers employ today over 150,000 direct persons.
In Italy the yachtsman has already some other not ordinary bills; the country has in fact the most expensive marinas in the World, and keeping a medium size yacht about twelve meters is usually a double to most other neighboring countries.  Fuel cost in Italy is also among the most expensive in the globe, where a surcharge of ten to twenty per cent is usual found in most marinas to the standard road fee.  It's a pity considering that the peninsula country is eighty per cent surrounded by a coast line some of which being very admired in the World. Think of; Capri, Portofino, and the Eolian Island to name just a few places.
Some glimmer of light for the Italians and those like me who visit the coast is still left, with some Council Regions; Sardegna, Liguria, and Tuscany talking to the government and the negative affects the tax will bring to there coast line.  From here we hope for the better about this!  Boats in general bring growth in all the coast lines, and where a yacht marina is present the only incentive actually wanted is that to be left in its business to work.
