Azimut Benetti Group at Cannes 2011

Premier debut of 4 extraordinary new offerings at the Cannes Festival, among them two flagships, Azimut Grande and Atlantis. 20 boats on the water and the debut of the Yachtique Concierge Club, a 5- star service reserved exclusively for Group customers.  The Success of Azimut Grande and Benetti: megayacht sector spurs Group growth and garners international awards. Azimut-Benetti Group arrives at the first official event of the new boating year with 4 important new offerings, each one representing a specific market segment: the Azimut 40, Azimut 45, Atlantis 58, and the Azimut Grande 120SL.  The four boats are the crown jewels of the large fleet on display at the Cannes International Boat & Yacht Show, with Azimut-Benetti combined exhibiting 20 different models. Expectations are high for the two flagships with Azimut Grande 120SL by far the largest boat built by Azimut to date and the Atlantis 58, while staying true to its sporty and punchy image, displaying a one of a kind versatility. The Azimut Grande 120SL is the first megayacht in the Azimut Grande series to be really Sport Luxury, truly capable of uniting sportiness with elegance and comfort: the result is clear. The continuity between the inside and outside generates uniquely luminous and refined spaces enjoying the yacht and the sea without limits also thanks to the power of the water jets which can deliver cruising speeds of between 36 and 40 knots. As the Atlantis 58, the sporty and care for ergonomics typical of the brand have in this new model their highest exaltation, making it the top of its class for dynamism and versatility. About performance, Atlantis 58 differs from competitors by being able to reach 38 knots and keep the sea very well, thanks to its new hull design. A pioneer through the changes that have radically transformed the international boating market scene in just a few years: today, the Azimut-Benetti group has a hand in everything, taking a leadership role in all the most promising markets in the industry. On this front, it is important to emphasize how quickly the Group has been able to redefine the scope of its business activities, and in turn, how this has altered the source of the Group’s sales. In pole position today is Brazil, followed by the United States (where the company continues to be the top importer), with the two countries accounting for over 50% total sales. The Group records also a continuous growth in the Middle and Far East markets, with a special focus on China. The strong focus on internationalisation has generated extremely gratifying results for all Group brands. This has been reflected in the increase in sales of Azimut Yachts in the United States, numerous international awards - including being ranked first place in China by the magazine, China Boating - as well as the firsts related to the brand’s green approach, investing significant resources to adopting technological and construction solutions aimed at reducing environmental impact. The revamping of the Atlantis series has been happily proceeding over the course of the year with 2 new models, the 58 and the 38; the latter is headed for a preview at the Genoa Boat Show.  Particularly noteworthy are Benetti’s excellent accomplishments, delivering 14 yachts (10 Class and 4 Custom) over the course of the year and receiving orders for over 17 new boats. These numbers are the real proof of the boatyard’s manufacturing and organisational capacity, the high quality of Benetti offerings, and how successful it has been in completely revamping the series. In this regard, attention should be also drawn to the launch of the new series of custom yachts, the FB 800, a 50 metre fibreglass boat with aluminium superstructure. It represents an innovative combination that unites maximum design flexibility and space customisation with the substantial advantage of keeping the total weight below 500 tons. Further indications of the excitement circulating around the brand can also be found in the recent opening of a service in the United States. This has been launched to better track the post sales phase in the North American market which is in recovery in terms of the mega yacht sector. In addition, a direct sales and service office is opening in Hong Kong to be work with the Asian markets which have also been very receptive to mega yacht sector. Regarding the development of new models, it should be noted that once again the Group has met its objective to continually renew itself; because of this, it is ready for the autumn season with over 9 new boats. There are also new offerings in terms of service. The Group is working through Yachtique, a dedicated division that has chosen the Cannes Festival to present the world premier of the Yachtique Concierge Club. Unique in the boating world, the Club is exclusively reserved for Azimut-Benetti boat owners who can take advantage of the 5-star service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The service ranges from booking reservations for restaurants, cars, and private chefs, to up to the minute weather forecasts worldwide. It also takes care of buying and delivering groceries as well as offering a wide range of significant discounts related to fuel, boating services such as winter storage, motor inspections, and supplying a tender. Azimut-Benetti is the leading and most prestigious builder of mega yachts in the world. The Group, which includes the prestigious brands Azimut Yachts, Azimut Grande, Benetti and Atlantis, each addressing a distinct segment of the boating market, and Yachtique, the division exclusively dedicated to boat owner services, also headed by Fraser Yachts. The Group operates in 68 countries around the world through a sales network of 138 offices.

Azimut Magellano Route to Success

The most eagerly anticipated gala dinner of the year - an event that ushers in the season’s most important new offerings - was held Saturday, 10 September, against the backdrop of beautiful Cannes: the awards ceremony for the 2011 World Yacht Trophies. The ceremony was organised by the publishing group LuxMediaGroup and presided over by a prestigious panel of experts, which over the summer examined the major new offerings for the season just now underway. At the ceremony, Magellano 50 by Azimut was crowned the winner of the "Best Innovative Design" category confirming that the direction taken by Azimut Yachts shipyards is indeed the right one. The specialist jury acknowledged the innovative capacity of Magellano 50, as well as its impressive technological content designed to serve the owner efficiently while safeguarding the environment. One of its main additional features is the new Easy Hybrid system, created by the Azimut-Benetti R&D department, which makes it possible to sail at speeds of up to 8 knots in complete silence using electric engines, switching to traditional propulsion methods with the greatest of ease. The exclusive "Dual Mode" hull, a new semi displacement design, makes switching from displacement systems to planing systems extremely easy, thus guaranteeing excellent stability and navigational comfort in addition to high hull reactivity and efficiency under all operating conditions. With Magellano 50, Azimut Yachts is offering not only a new model but also a new yachting dimension, once again asserting its great capacity for innovation as well as the design and manufacturing expertise which has placed the company at the forefront of the nautical industry throughout the world.

Back Cove Chooses Yanmar

The powerful new Yanmar 8LV series diesel continues to gain favor with boatbuilders. Adding to its long history of offering Yanmar power, Back Cove Yachts has now chosen the Yanmar 8LV-370 as an option on its popular Back Cove 30. The 8LV is supplied by Yanmar distributor Mack Boring and Parts Company of Union, New Jersey. Available in 320 hp and 370 hp models, the 8LV series has a dry weight of 992 lbs., hundreds of pounds lighter than comparable engines. Without sacrificing Yanmar's excellent diesel fuel economy and durability, high-end performance is similar to a V-8 gas engine. The 8LV series is also EPA Tier 3 compliant. Optimum acceleration is achieved by Yanmar's twin turbochargers and common rail fuel injection. Power ranges from 550 rpm at idle to 3,800 rpm at top speed. A choice of drive systems includes the KMH50 series down-angle or V-drive, new ZT370 dual propeller sterndrive or ZF series 2800 pod drive. It can also be equipped with ZF gears. The 8LV is the first engine to utilize Yanmar's own CAN-bus vessel control system (VCS) to simplify all controls, full-color digital displays with NMEA2000 or J1939 gauge output, cabling and wiring. Back Cove builds yachts reminiscent of Maine's classic Down East fishing boats. Rather than chugging between lobster pots, the resin infused vee-hulls and Yanmar propulsion allow the stylish boat to jump on plane easily or quietly cruise at a leisurely pace. The elegant yachts are built for comfort, with wide side decks and oversized hand rails, ample seating and a full galley. They're constructed by Maine's finest boatbuilders in a modern 240,000 sq. ft. facility

Ferretti Group Inaugurates Nautical Year at 34th Cannes Show

The Ferretti Group, a world leader in the design, construction and sale of motoryachts, encompassing a unique portfolio of some of the most exclusive and prestigious brands in the nautical world, inaugurates the new 2011-2012 nautical year in Cannes, at the 34th Festival International De La Plaisance. With an impressive fleet of 29 yachts on display, 10 models are noted as world previews, including: the Ferretti 720, Pershing 108, Pershing 74, Itama 45, Riva 75 Venere Super, Rivarama Super, Riva Iseo, Ferretti Custom Line 124, Ferretti Custom Line 100, Navetta 33 Crescendo by Ferretti Custom Line and My Navetta 43 “Lady Trudy” by CRN. As usual, the traditional Ferretti Group Meeting was the occasion for the Group’s Chairman and Founder, Norberto Ferretti, and for the Chief Executive Officer, Giancarlo Galeone for drafting the first preliminary results of the 2010-2011 nautical year. This nautical year has been characterized by a further expansion at an international level and by the launch of innovative models, confirming the great ability of the Ferretti Group to interpret the trends of the nautical market as well as the needs of its customers. With an increasing demand for Made in Italy luxury products, the company is constantly improving its standards of exceptionality, quality and performance, despite the challenging moment at the macroeconomic level. The preliminary results of the nautical year ended on August, 31st, 2011 show a Value of Production of about 521 million euro, withan increase of +12% compared to approximately 465 million euro on August 31st, 2010. The Order Portfolio as of August, 31st 2011 is approximately 401 million euro, with a increase of +55% compared to 257 million euro as of August, 31st 2010, with a volume of new orders of about 552 million euro, an increase of +27% compared to about 434 million euro of the 2009-2010 nautical year. During the 2010-2011 nautical year the Ferretti Group has confirmed its strong commitment to international expansion, through a strategy focused towards the local development and marketing growth in areas with strong present and future development opportunities. In April 2010, the Group signed an agreement with its historic dealer and centre for production, sales, and after-sale service of all the yachts of the brands of the Group for the Brazilian market, Ferretti Group Brasil. The new production plant in the Sao Paolo area was officially inaugurated in June 2011. With this same perspective, in July 2011, the company signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with Shandong Heavy Industry Group (“SHIG”) – a Chinese holding, controlling leading companies in the sector of engines, generators and propulsion systems for the creation of a joint venture with the aim of developing an industrial partnership for the design, production and sale of motor yachts for the market of Greater China (China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao) and other emerging markets . This initiative, which focuses on the development of new brands and models – not in competition with the present models of the Ferretti Group’s current portfolio- has the purpose of exploiting synergies starting with the respective technological and industrial skills, and will not determine impacts on the current production set up of the Group, traditionally based in Italy. Moreover, SHIG will evaluate the possibility to make a cash investment into the Group, for the acquisition of a minority shareholding.  As for North America, an area considered as strongly strategic by the Group, the distribution network has been strengthened further with new sales centres established in the North East USA, in Greenwich, CT, Newport, RI and Sag Harbor, NY as well as supporting Allied Marine in maintaining its successful brokerage activities. In the next few months, this process will expand to Michigan and California. The Group will take part in the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, displaying a preview for the continent, the new Custom Line 100, the yacht which has recently been sold to an American customer as well as other new debut models for the US market including the Ferretti 720 and Riva 86 Domino. As for market segments, during the 2010-2011 nautical year, Ferretti Group, which ranked first in the 2011 Global Order Book, the most thorough and accurate analysis of the global nautical industry, issued every year by authoritative international nautical magazine ‘Showboats International’, focused on medium and large yachts and on continuous product and process innovation, constantly launching new models and looking for technological solutions to be ahead of market trends. Continuing on its strategy of constant product innovation, which envisages the launch of 42 new models between 2011 and the end of 2013. At the Festival de la Plaisance in Cannes the 200th hull of Aquariva, the elegant 33 foot vessel descending from the legendary Aquarama, will be on display. Representing the revival of the historic brand Riva after it has been acquired by the Group in 2000, Aquariva is a timeless icon of elegance and style. The Ferretti Group is on a continuous quest for technological solutions in an effort to be ahead of market trends. This search led the Group to further develop the hybrid propulsion system "Zero Emission Mode”, which has been succesfully applied to the new Riva Iseo. The hybrid propulsion and Zero Emissions by means of the ‘Hybrid Propulsion ZEM’ version is particularly suitable for lakes or other areas where cruising is forbidden. This hybrid propulsion system is the result of the R&D activity of AYT (Advanced Yacht Technology), the research and design centre of the Group. This technology was first applied on the Mochi Craft Long Range 23 and was noted as the most advanced “green” yacht at the world level, awarded by the Union Internationale Motonautique. Once again proving to be the most advanced technology in this field, the Group is coping with every day more demanding owners, who are particularly interested in investing in yachts that guarantee the reduction of consumption, emissions, and noise

Ranger Tugs displayed all of their 2012 models, had live music, a barbeque, cocktail party and enough raffles and door prizes that almost everyone left with a prize. With each Ranger Tug model displayed, ranging in size from 21 to 29 feet, the rendezvous offered attendees not only an opportunity to compare the different models, but also an opportunity to participate in various social and educational events. She shared that over 60 items were collected for auction such as West Marine binoculars and three gift certificates for a two-night stay at the Roche Harbor marina.

Riva Custom Shade by Opacmare

After it has successfully provided sunshade for the lucky owners of earlier Riva designs, such as, not least amongst others, Riva Rivale, Turin based Opac has delivered a new concept for latest Riva Iseo, launched Sarnico, Bergamo, just days ago. Based on the consulting of specialists at AYT’s Mechanical Propulsion Platform, a research and engineering division of Gruppo Ferretti, OPAC has taken on the complex challenge of a new Riva runabout. Major criticalities on a 27 feet design were minimized spaces to recess a fully automated soft top also based on the same mechanism as of sophisticated convertible cars. Opac’s retractable hood folds back into space created aft of the boat’s rear sofa, and remains concealed behind automatically activated ad hoc hatches. Leveraging on an experience of more than ten years in the automotive industry, and in collaboration with their client, OPAC has worked on convertible soft top option volumes to determine storage space between cockpit sofa and engine room to recess the mechanism, in a minimized design to host engines and cylinders, enabling the automation of both the soft top structure and the doors which, closed on the recess, conceal the system when not in use. Hatch seals are silicon insulated to ensure a totally watertight environment, as originally designed. This insulation resists speed of over 40 knots. Special care has been taken for practicality and safety. When in use, Opac hood’s rear window and forward segments are easy to open to ensure a quick way out, in the case of an emergency. The system also facilitates the mobility of passengers and their disembarkation when the boat is docked laterally or stern to. Opac’s hood front opening makes it easier to maneuver the craft to dock, at the same time that it consents passengers to remain standing during navigation for better visibility and airing. Passengers on the rear seat are afforded adequate visibility through transparent side windows. Parallel to this system, Opac has designed a bimini top to afford passengers to remain standing, albeit protected from the sun. Both designs are perfectly interchangeable and may be replaced at any time (pre/post sale) at your closest Opac or Riva technical assistance services.

Riva Reaches the 200 Mark

Aquariva the historical Riva model has reached the momentous target of 200 units - success lasting over a decade . Aquariva, the historical Riva 33 footer developed in the year 2000 by the designers at Officina Italiana Design, the exclusive designer of all the yachts in the Riva range, AYT – Advanced Yacht Technology – Ferretti Group’s naval research and design centre, and the team of architects and designers of Centro Stile Ferrettigroup, reached the prestigious goal of 200 units, a success that testifies the great value of Riva yachts. Designed as the heir of the legendary Aquarama, Aquariva has become a symbol of elegance and timeless style and is now one of the most famous, best loved yachts in the world. From her predecessor, she has inherited the success which continues nonstop, season after season. Over the past eleven years, Aquariva has established herself as an out and out classic of the nautical world, going far beyond fleeting fashion and becoming, thanks to the perfection of her details, a model adored by the international jet-set. The soft, elegant lines of her 33 feet carry the flavour of tradition, and the valuable woods used for the deck - mahogany inlaid in maple - are beautifully processed. The exclusive leather finishes of the elegant dashboard and helm enhance the pleasure of cruising, offering both excitement and unparalleled comfort.  Over the years, Aquariva has become one of the most evocative images of Italian style, a first class symbol of craftsmanship and exclusive quality, but also of the Dolce Vita and all- Italian glamour. These are the reasons why Gucci approached the nautical world, and particularly Riva. On occasion of the 90th anniversary of the fashion house, in fact, Frida Giannini, Creative Director at Gucci, and Officina Italiana Design created a personalized model of Aquariva, the Aquariva Gucci. The project is a perfect balance between past and modernity and reflects the long tradition of design excellence and craftsmanship the two brands share. Last year, Aquariva entered the art world, too, with the reinterpretation of well-known Australian designer Marc Newson, who, in association with Officina Italiana Design, developed Aquariva by Marc Newson, launched as a limited edition of just 22 units and sold throughout the world by the Gagosian Gallery in New York. The Aquariva was the very first project produced after the shipyard was purchased by the Ferretti Group, and has celebrated the achievement of two important targets in just eleven years. In 2006, on occasion of the production of the 100th yacht, a limited edition called Aquariva Cento was created, just ten units, all of which were sold before they even entered production. Moreover, hull no. 100 was auctioned during a charity auction in London in favour of the Prince’s Trust, the charitable association founded by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales to help disadvantaged young people in the United Kingdom. Aquariva 200 will be on display at 51st Genoa International Boat Show, from the 1st to the 9th October 2011.

New Model: Sealine SC42

Thanks to one of the friends at the YBW forum we can show you Sealine much anticipated SC42, presented for the first time at the Southampton 2011 boat show.  This new Sealine SC42 sport cruiser shares hull with the much talked about F42 flybridge model launched a year at the same show.  But apart the hull, this model features a different upper structure which offers a clever design of the aft cockpit deck, one of its most innovative areas, and also a diverse but still very spacious cabin lower plan.  The distinct feature of the main deck is surely its wide body usage of the stern, which makes the aft part feel like that to a big walk around boat.  This area features two L-shaped settees, plus another L-shaped lounger to port side forward.  Helm station is located to starboard side. Another distinct feature is a very extended hard top which brings a lot of thinking in my opinion to the British user, or that of more Northern hemisphere climates.  Below is for a two cabins layout, master stateroom to fore with private en-suite head and separate shower room, three berth guest cabin aft with en-suite shower head, C-shaped settee, and galley.  The SC42 also features the option for an extended up and down moving bathing platform which increases length by over one meter.  Power is from twin Volvo 330 or optional 370hp with stern drive or IPS pods propulsion.
Technical Data:
LOA - 14.00 m (45.9ft) with extended bathing platform
LOA - 12.80 m standard not extended bathing platform

Improve-it = Fairline 65 Squadron

Fairline presented a new cabin layout option for the award-winning 65 Squadron motor yacht at the PSP Southampton Boat Show 2011. The existing 65 Squadron with three cabins plus crew will now be available in an optional four cabin layout with aft crew cabin, giving the choice of accommodation for up to eight guests  plus two crew members.  The latest cabin layout arrangement enables customers to select a fourth cabin, located port side and featuring opening portholes, full-length bunk berths complete with bedding and a hanging wardrobe. Alternatively, in its three-cabin layout arrangement, the space is fitted out as a day head and utility room. In the master stateroom, the double bed has been newly positioned fore/aft, further maximising the available space. New panoramic hull windows allow light to fill the lower accommodation living areas. Light-filled accommodation has become a hallmark of the range and, in line with the latest Fairline models, the optional aft crew cabin features full transom glazing.  An exceptional feeling of spaciousness continues to be provided by the single-level saloon, galley and dinette arrangement, providing sophisticated living areas to relax and entertain. The large cockpit area on this latest model will now include a fixed-height table as standard.  The Fairline 65 Squadron was launched in 2009 and has received much media praise and accolade, including a 'Motor Boat of the Year' Award 2010 in the Flybridges over 55ft category, as judged by a panel of boat testers from UK marine titles Motor Boats Monthly and Motor Boat and Yachting.

Project: Grand Banks 76 Aleutian RP

Grand Banks presents the project of its new flagship the 76 Aleutian RP.  This new model increases Grand Banks size by four feet and is set to be the largest and most luxurious yacht in the company's growing lineup. The 76RP features a proven Tom Fexas hull design and timeless exterior styling shared by other yachts in the raised-pilothouse contemporary looking Aleutian Series. But this newest model also introduces a brand new interior design that is more contemporary and European in flavor than any of its predecessors.  The graceful flow and simple, clean proportions of this design is well matched to the understated nautical style that has defined the Aleutian Series. It extends throughout a new interior layout that includes four generous staterooms and a much larger salon made possible by the longer, expansive deck house of the 76RP.  For exploration, entertainment and enjoyment, the new 76 Aleutian RP is a compelling new choice in many respects. The large flybridge, generous foredeck, and spacious aft deck and dining area all serve to expand envelope for outdoor living. Notably, the vessel's range lets owners stretch their voyage to 1000 nm, or they can speed to the next port at over 30 knots with the largest of the engine options which start from twin 836hp up to 1723 by Cat or MTU.

New Model: Maritimo A53 Aegean Flybridge

Maritimo presents the new A53 Aegean Flybridge, a replacement to the A50.  The new Maritimo A53 will feature an enclosed bridge as standard, which with the helm station up top, leaves more room to move on the main deck.  Big view windows and an astern galley characterize this model, which uses the same hull as the new C53 Sports Cabriolet.  Down below the A53 Aegean Flybridge sleeps from five to six in a three cabins layout.  Two shower heads serve the guests with the owners room located to port side midships.  Another unique or hard to find feature for a flybridge yacht is the tender garage located to aft, with a space for rib of up to 3.2 meters in size.  Power is from twin Volvo 670hp which give a comfortable cruise speed of 25 knots.

Project: Atlantis 38

Atlantis continues its We are Open direction, with the presentation of the 38 project.  This model is set to be presented in a week's time in Genoa and follows the design direction as started by NeoDesign from designers Salvetti and Biaggi in September 2010 with the 48, followed with the 44 a month later, and continued with the just presented in Cannes new flagship 58.  The 38 is set to replace both the 35 Plus, and 40 models.  As is with the new Atlantis since 2007, the 38 also follows a very open pattern of the main deck, set for those clients who like to live the sea mostly in an airy fresh environment.  So while the 38 features a hard top, which makes easier use in Winter weather, the main deck is all about being open, free, and usable as much possible.  The layout here offers a C-shaped settee, chaise lounge pad to port side, with helm and wet bar to starboard.  Down below we have a two cabins layout, an L-shaped saloon which can convert to an extra twin berth, galley, and head with a door separate shower stall.  Impressive is the layout of the guest cabin located to midships which offers a very spacious double berth, and a nice relaxing sofa opposite.  Power is from twin Volvo stern drive with standard being 260hp or optional 300.

Project: Raffaelli 55 Storm IPS

Italian builder Raffaelli who just received new investment presents its latest challenge and new direction to the market with a project for a 55 Storm IPS.  This model is a fully enclosed sport yacht, sun roof hard top and aft patio door, and as the title says is to be powered by the Volvo forward looking dual propeller pods.  The design is trusted to Italian naval architect and designer Milavonovic, who presents lines which pay homage to this builder forty years plus story in boat building.  So far Raffaelli has not advised if the 55 Storm is to replace the 2003 presented 57 Kubang.  As the enclosed configuration usually shows, the 55 Storm offers a living on the main deck, with intelligent modern solutions making part of the concept as astern galley by the patio door which also serves the aft cockpit, and a wet bar to port side.  A C-shaped dinette is to be found to fore of the interior saloon to port side, with a very forward located helm station to starboard.  Down below we have an area dedicated only to the cabins, here offering three spacious rooms, with each having its own en-suite bathroom.  The layout while making the best of IPS pods, impresses not only for having a cabin with no bunks but also for the space dedicated in each room, and for the spacious owners stateroom located to midships.  Standard power for the 55 Storm IPS is from twin Volvo 435hp with the builder promising a top speed of 31 knots at a full load of 18 tons.

New Model: Cruisers 41 Cantius

After launching the anticipated 48 Cantius at the end of 2010, US builder Cruisers a year later presents its  talked about but never shown smaller 41 Cantius.  If this is anything to show, I think we will soon be seeing a family of Cantius enclosed hard top sport cruisers and yachts from the US builder.  The 41 Cantius is well laid out sport cruiser with good looking lines, which can be used all year round thanks to a fully enclosed main deck living area, with hard top, and aft patio door.  Interesting characteristics are the settee in the aft deck, and the stools which can be positioned on the aft bathing platform which thanks to the design of the stern becomes a relaxing bar area.  Inside on the main deck is space for a saloon with C-shaped settee, a wet bar with entertainment cabinets opposite, and helm station.  Below are two cabins with an owners room to fore, aft cabin with two single beds and en-suite shower head, very large bathroom to port side, and a galley.  Power is from 330 up to 370hp in diesel format, which should give top speeds of about 32 knots.
Technical Data:
LOA - 13.0 m (42.8ft)
Beam - 4.00 m
Draft - 1.01 m
Displacement - 10886 kg
Fuel Capacity - 1135 l
Water Capacity - 284 l
Accommodation - 4 + 2 berths
Engines - 2 x Volvo 550g 400hp gas petrol, D6 330hp, D6 370hp
Propulsion - Volvo DP dual propeller stern drive, IPS forward looking dual prop pods

Project: Koot 54

Koot Yachts from Tunisia presents its first model the 54, which was officially presented at the recent Cannes Boat Show 2011. Loft on the Sea is the design philosophy that inspired the yard to create this 16 metres open characterized by wide open spaces outside and inside, providing a continuous contact with the sea.  The Koot 54 is built in Tunisia by a working team headed by Italian architect Francesco Maria Giulini. The exterior design is by Koot Design Team, with interiors designed by the architect Giulini and the hull designed by renowned naval architect Sergio Cutolo. Over sixteen meters long this is a sport yacht that offers unique seamlessly environments: no internal cabins but one large lounge area directly connected to the cockpit, creating a unique space between the interior of the boat, outdoor areas and the sea. Large spaces also characterize the outdoor area: the stern is completely open to the sea and only three steps separate the cockpit from the spacious bathing platform as well as an area at the bow completely covered with teak becomes a very large and comfortable sundeck .  The Koot 54 has a planning hull with V-variable angle and is fitted with two MAN R6 800hp diesel engines which deliver a max of 36 knots and a cruise of 32.

Improve-it = Hunt 52 Express

Hunt 52 Express Cruiser hull number 6, arrived to be the first IPS propulsion with Joystick Control. Not only does her performance exceed all expectation in ride, speed and fuel efficiency, but the layout is just perfect for those families who frequently cruise as two persons, yet occasionally might need to accommodate more couples or children and friends.  That is because the Hunt 52 Express with Volvo forward looking dual propellers pods drives can easily be designed with a three staterooms layout. The spacious salon can be arranged as a living room suite with two barrel chairs, settee and convertible dinette table.  The performance numbers are impressive and the IPS version also features smaller fuel capacity of 2270 liters, that is 290 liters less to the standard Cats 710hp shaft engined model, and 570 liters minus of the Cats 1001hp choice.  Yet with this less capacity it still delivers a range of 300 nautical miles at cruise speed.  Same as the Cats 710hp yet with less fuel. Top speed with the 690hp IPS900 is a 30 knots max, and a 25 of cruise.

Project: Casa 38

After always going bigger size in recent years family run builder Casa presents the project for a 38 entry level model.  As the above rendering shows this new model is a fully open style sport cruiser and does not go for a hard top as the bigger Casa model's.  Coming from Rome this is no surprise where fully open boats even without radar arch are always very much appreciated in these dimensions, but also in bigger sizes.  The Casa in fact goes in direct competition with builders like Tornado, Marine Yachting, and Italcraft Sarima all coming from the where abouts of the Italian capital city, and all actualy having a fame of being sea worthy craft. Interesting for me are also the exterior hull lines of the Casa project which reminds me a bit of the nineties produced Italcraft F38.  The Casa 38 looks sleek but this on plan sets also to be a very comfortable sport cruiser.  The cockpit offers an aft sun pad layout with a C-shaped settee, helm station, and wet bar cabinet behind it.  Inside is a two cabin plan, L-shaped settee, galley, and two heads.  One of these being en-suite for the owners room located to fore.  Power is from twin Volvo 330hp stern drives which should give a top speed of 40 knots.
