Class 1 - 2010 Season Preview

For the first time in the sport’s history, a leg of Class-1 Powerboat Championship takes place at a southern hemisphere country. Rio de Janeiro hosts the Class-1 Brazil Grand Prix 2010 season-opener. The races are scheduled on 26-28 March at Marina da Glória and it happens to be the first of a ten year agreement. It heralds the start of a long-term agreement among International Offshore Team Association – IOTA, Aktuell Communication Office and Event Promoter, Eike Batista, President of EBX Group. The organization counts also on the mayor city support. Class-1 Powerboat Championship Grandprix Brazil stages the 2010 season opener and is the first great international Sport event to happen in Rio de Janeiro since 2016 Olympic Games announcement. Over a million people are expected to closely watch all Powerboat training and official race laps from Aterro do Flamengo. The Marina da Glória provides the public all needed structure. Vip area, shops, bars and restaurants and a disco club are part of a complex that joins sports and entertainment. This year first round will feature five teams with seven boats competing. Dubai's Victory Team winners of last year tragic ending season will again be a firm favorite for the race as well to the title taking. Another possible contender will be the Norwegian Welmax Team, European Champions in 2008. Welmax will have a two boat entry this year, with one of the boats featuring Marit Stromoy, the first woman in Class One. Worth of note is Guido Capellini, the F1 Powerboat legend returning for a second time on a Class One powerboat with no.8 Duemme Yacht Forest & Sguardi composite built Tencara catamaran.
